Description
When he was young, Xiao Yu’an wore a white shirt and rescued a child from a tree.
The child’s hands were sticky with sugar water from the melted peppermint popsicle he’d been eating, and he left a five-fingered imprint on the front of Xiao Yu’an’s shirt.
“This is a stamp,” the child declared. “It means you’re my gege now.”
When he was young, Ming Shu had to climb up and up and up in a tall tree in order to see the gege in the neighbors’ yard.
He wanted to quickly grow big and tall, so he wouldn’t need to climb any more trees. So he would be able to turn around, at any time, and see the gege from the Xiao family.
“You don’t need to wait for me,” he said. “Let me chase you. Let me make you my guiding light.”

Recommended 10/10 to anyone who is looking for a good slice of life!
Imagine your own family never loves you, sees you as a “failed proof of marriage” but then you make a gege one fateful day, his family takes you in as their own child.
Reads boring? It isn’t boring at all.
As all this starts happening, Ming Shu is just a 5 yo kid and we understand the child’s psychology, his perception of people, the accumulated anger and lashing out, the result of a bad parenting. It isn’t even parenting if the parents aren’t there lol. We understand his need for love and want to be spoiled as soon as he tastes what it’s like to be adored by a family.
I suck at reviews but just read it. Time is so prevalent in this story. You witness a 5yo kid grow up right in front of your eyes. As time changes, it surely does bring change in everything : the surrounding you grew up, change in refrigerator, a shop you went to everyday when you were kid is now replaced by some modern store and the loss of people. It’s just so beautiful to read everything that happens in the novel, especially when Ming Shu gets a family.

Esta es mi primera reseña en Goodreads, si vez algún error gramatical, perdóname por eso.
Quise hacerlo en NU, pero mejor acá.
Bueno, con esta novela, solo quise leer más de 竹马竹马 (childhood friends), aunque primero leí Madness of the Heart (心狂) que es la novela policíaca que Chuhe escribió antes de BHCY, mas que nada porque las lectoras querían ver a Ming Shu y Xiao Yu'an, y su historia de como se conocieron hasta ser pareja.
Ya conociendo a la pareja por XK, me encariñé al instante con Ming Shu, literalmente es como ver otro lado de Ming Shu, su lado más humano, su niñez...eso es lo lees en BHCY. Creo que esa novela es más como una historia de crecimiento que de romance. Tenemos a MC (Ming Shu), quien es un niño solitario con el anhelo de ser amado, pueden creer que casi todos los días me ponía a llorar por Ming Shu.
Era solo un niño que anhelaba el amor de sus padres, como cualquier niño, envidiaba mucho a la familia Xiao, pues es una familia amorosa y divertido, todo lo que Ming Shu quería en su vida. Siempre solía observar a los niños jugar ahí, el también quería jugar con ellos, se sentía tan solo y yo solo quería llorar.
Un día, Ming Shu se subió al árbol para observar a los primos jugar, pero no había nadie, hasta que aparece un niño mayor que él, era Xiao Yu'an. Fue tan tierno esa escena, además un cliché de caerse del árbol y el otro debe atraparlo. Ahí comienza su amistad, como también crianza, si, crianza, porque Xiao Yu'an seria como un padre y madre que Ming Shu nunca tuvo.
Fue muy gratificante leer esa novela cuando el tl estaba en emisión, por lo que era una experiencia nueva. Es una novela tan soft, sotf, soft, pero también tiene sus momentos angst, y mas que nada es que podemos ver un poco de abuso infantil (Yo odio tanto a Wen Yue y Ming Haofeng, nunca me caerán bien).
Siento que aquí Chuhe, nos recalco la realidad de los padres que culpan a sus hijos de arruinar sus éxitos, pero que culpa tuvo Ming Shu, si tienes que enojarte, no es con un niño, si no que ustedes arreglen sus mierdas, sus problemas, que se hayan casado por acuerdo de ambas familias y no fueran felices, todo eso, no tiene la culpa, Ming Shu. Por lo que no tienen derecho de ser llamado "Mamá" o "Papá", perdiste este derecho desde el día en que trataron con frialdad y dejarlo en la casa del abuelo. No importa que tanto juguetes le dean, o la mejor educación, jamás podrán a ese niño que estuvo solo, desde el día en que nació.
Aunque en Madness podemos a un Ming Shu adulto perdonándolos por su ineptitud, todo es gracias a Xiao Yu'an, y ahí es donde quiero recalcar lo importante que es Xiao Yu'an en la vida de Ming Shu.
Xiao Yu'an es el pilar fundamental en la vida de Ming Shu, como su gege, fue un niño muy inteligente y popular. Su vida parece alumbrar en todo momento, y a pesar de que es hijo de una familia adinerada, no es un personaje que le gustar pisotear a los demás. El gege debió ser el sol más brillante en la oscuridad. Ming Shu siempre solía perseguirlo y copiar su personalidad y todo.
Hay una frase en Madness donde Yu'an le dice "No eres una copia de mi, eres mi amante"
Ming Shu paso de ser un niño miserable a ser el didi de Yu'an, fue muy feliz a su lado, junto a la familia Xiao. Ming Shu, un pequeño niño tirano pero muy mimado y lo es incluso en Madness.
Didi es un niño feliz mientras crece, y sigue los pasos de su Gege, a pesar de la diferencia de seis años, quiere alcanzarlo, por lo que podemos ver a lo largo de la novela, ver a Ming Shu persiguiéndolo, solo para estar a su lado, y ahí es donde comienza a tener sentimientos románticos hacia su gege.
Como Xiao Yu'an viene de una familia que eran militares, sigue ese mismo camino, por lo que podemos ver la separación. Muy triste, que va, toda la novela es tan triste, al menos para mi, pero mejor es leerlo y me comprenderás. Ming Shu sigue el mismo camino que su gege, y se convierte en policía. Ahí me doy cuenta en lo mucho que mi bebé creció, y de verdad me siento tan nostálgica, como una madre que ve crecer a su hijo.
Mi bebé tuvo el mejor desarrollo, de ser el niño tímido a ser el capitán de División de Delitos Graves. Creo que la presencia de Yu'an es muy importante, porque llego hasta ahí solo para perseguir a su gege.
No diría que es una dependencia, si no mas que nada es como un modelo a seguir, es tan natural...Chuhe pudo retratar todo eso de una manera tan hermosa y realista. Es mi favorita, es mi favorita y lo amo mucho.
El romance comienza cuando ya son adultos, al inicio solo era complacer a Ming Shu, Xiao Yu'an no puede ver al niño que tanto crio verlo de una manera romántica, pero pasan muchas cosas y se da cuenta de sus sentimientos. Es muy bonito, pero creo que el autor no sabe escribir romance o cree que no era necesario dar detalles. Pero ellos se aman, a pesar de que llevan mas tiempo separados que juntos. El final te da la razón por la cual Xiao Yu'an es el jefe de Ming Shu. Bonito detalle y pensar que Madness es lo primero que salió en Changpei.
Es perfecto, lo amo tanto. Pero como lector que leyó Madness y Mint, de verdad me sentía muy nostálgica. Pero no hay un orden, puedes leer Madness o Mint, cualquiera.

THIS NOVEL MADE ME FEEL A LOT OF UNFAMILIAR FEELINGS. MINT WOULD NEVER BE THE SAME TO ME ANYMORE AFTER READING THIS NOVEL🤧 I AM ESPECIALLY ATTACHED TO MING SHU THAT'S WHY I TEAR UP A LOT WHEN I WITNESS HIM GROWING UP FROM LIL SPROUT ACTUALLY TO BECOME A GREAT MAN. TO XIAO YU'AN WHO MADE THE BIGGEST CONTRIBUTION TO WHY OUR LIL SHU MANAGED TO BECOME A GREAT MAN, THANK YOU MING SHU'S GEGE FOR YOUR CONSTANT LOVE AND CARE FOR LIL SHU. I FEEL EMOTIONAL WHILE I AM WRITING THIS REVIEW BECAUSE THIS NOVEL IS NOW VERY SPECIAL TO ME. SO IF YOU WANT TO READ A GOOD SLICE OF A NOVEL WITH A REALISTIC PLOT, MINT STAINED SHIRT IS SUITABLE FOR YOU!!!

I would've liked this a lot more if it wasn't chronological, or if the author used timeskips more liberally. At 64%, Ming Shu (MC) was still in middle school and Xiao Yu'an (ML) was only in college. I was not a fan of the pacing at all. I don't mind the age gap of 6 years but while reading, I often found myself thinking the story would be better if it hadn't started with MS being only a five-year-old kid. Like I do like the childhood friends to lovers trope but there was just too much on the childhood part in this novel. If only the childhood part was told in flashbacks or something, that would've been more enjoyable for me.
It has a good storyline with some nuanced characters, especially earlier in the novel with MS's absent parents and his pitiful childhood. And a few of the side characters and their interactions were fun and full of humour too, especially those that involved Xiao Jincheng.
But ultimately, I didn't care enough about MS and XYA and their relationship. In fact, although I felt bad for MS and his neglectful childhood, I also thought he was not quite likable as a character. I think this is mostly attributed to the fact that he's still very much a kid and in general, I don't like reading stories through the POV of a younger person. I couldn't get used to it and his dynamics with XYA also annoyed me because he was so clingy and spoiled, and I got turned off from wanting to continue reading about their future relationship.

If someone asked me to describe this book it would be "bittersweet", it's relly a nice slice of life. I think on of the most likeable parts is to "accompany" the characters through their childhood, adolescence, youth and furthermore.
It was quite realistic, and the relationship between the main characters was always nice. I love how the author really knows the characters to be able to perfectly develop them from childhood to adulthood without them losing their esence, they are always themselves.
The plot is mainly them growing, facing life, family problems, in MC's case, school and typical teenagers' issues. It's really nice.
I think it's really worth reading!

Tui sẽ rất thích bộ này nếu như khoảng thời gian bot nhận ra mình thích top không phải là lúc em ấy ở độ 10 tuổi 🥲 ok đồng ý là chuyện gia đình không đẹp sẽ dẫn đến tâm sinh lý lớn hơn tuổi đúng đi thì cái việc nhận ra mình thích “ anh “ mình vẫn là quá sớm, thêm việc tính cách của bot cũng thuộc dạng trẻ trâu, đeo bám ỷ lại vào bạn top. Tưởng là đến đoạn kết em bot sẽ trưởng thành hơn 1 tí nhưng không, vẫn với cái tính cách trẻ con vl. Điểm sáng của bộ này chắc là 2 anh em họ của top dễ thương zl, char build của bạn top cũng ok nma truyện ở góc nhìn của bot nên tui thấy ko đc ấn tượng lắm. Cố dữ lắm mới đọc tiếp cho hết á đáng ra drop từ đoạn giữa ròi 🙏

Ini adalah novel yang luar biasa. Ditulis dengan sangat baik dan karakter-karakternya terasa nyata seperti halnya pertumbuhan mereka. Akhirnya kita memiliki novel di mana anak-anak benar-benar berperilaku seperti anak-anak dan bukan orang dewasa mini.
Hatiku terus menerus hancur untuk Ming Shu, dan aku benar-benar meneteskan air mata saat membaca ini.
Saya pasti merekomendasikan ini, ini adalah kisah yang indah dan realistis yang akan menarik semua hati sanubari Anda.
Penerjemahnya juga telah melakukan pekerjaan yang luar biasa dalam menerjemahkan!

Just a didi and a gege falling in love ❤️.
My heart hurt for the love that Ming Shu sought after, for the realism of these two boys who grew up with one another and the struggles against this step-brother trope which often get brushed off.
Xiao Yu'an would appear in the dictionary under stoic gong, reluctant yet unable to deny his beloved di anything.
It's not really a 4 star but 3 is too harsh given I devoured it in a day. My utter utter joy when realising this was a prequel and I have an entire novel worth of their relationship to now savour.

เรื่องนี้เห็นดาวใน Novel Update เยอะมากๆ เลยลองอ่านดู
ขอบอกว่า...ถ้าใครต้องการความฟิน คุณจะไม่ได้จากเรื่องนี้
จนเกือบจบเล่มนั่นแหละ 🤣🤣
เรื่องจะดำเนินไปแบบช้าๆ เริ่มตั้งแต่ตัวเอกของเรื่องคือ Ming Shu อายุ 5 ขวบ
กับ Xiao Yu'an อายุ 11 ได้เจอกันครั้งแรก มันเหมือนการเปรียบเทียบ
ชีวิตของเด็กจากครอบครัว 2 ครอบครัว ซึ่งพื้นฐานน่าจะใกล้เคียงกัน
คือเป็นครอบครัวที่ปู่เป็นทหารทั้งคู่ แต่เติบโตมาแตกต่างกันฟ้ากับดิน
Ming Shu ถูกพ่อแม่ส่งมาให้ปู่ย่าเลี้ยงตั้งแต่เด็กมากๆ และแทบไม่เคยได้รับความสนใจ
จากพ่อแม่เลย ส่วนปู่ดูแล สัมผัสได้ถึงความเป็นห่วง แต่อยู่ในโหมดโหด
เหมือนฝึกทหาร Ming Shu เลยเป็นเด็กที่ขาดความรักความอบอุ่นมากๆ
หลายเรื่องจะน่าสงสารมากๆ ยิ่งถ้าคิดว่าเค้าเป็นเด็กอายุแค่นี้ แต่ต้องมาเจอ
สถานการณ์แบบนี้ น้ำตาจะไหล T0T ถ้าไม่ได้เจอพระเอกที่เป็นห่วงเค้า
และรับเค้าเข้ามาเป็นคนนึงในครอบครัว Ming Shu ไม่น่าจะรอดจากการ
เป็นคนมีอาการทางจิตอ่ะค่ะ (พ่อแม่ Ming Shu นี่สุดยอด รับไม่ด้ายยยย)

แต่โตมาแบบอบอุ่น มีพี่สาว และลูกพี่ลูกน้องโตมาด้วยกัน ได้เล่นด้วยกัน และมีเป้าหมายชัดเจน
มาตั้งแต่เด็กว่าโตไปอยากทำงานอะไร เรียกว่าพ่อแม่ไม่ต้องห่วงลูกคนนี้เลย
พอ Ming Shu เจอ Xiao Yu'an และอีกฝ่ายแสดงความห่วงใย
เค้าก็ยึดคนนี้เป็นพี่ชาย เป็นที่หนึ่งในชีวิต ครอบครัวของพระเอกก็รักและเอ็นดู
Ming Shu ชีวิตหลังจากนั้นเลยก็เลยแทบจะย้ายมาอยู่กับครอบครัวพระเอก
แต่น่าเสียดายที่สองคนนี้อายุห่างกันเกินไป เลยไม่มีช่วงที่ได้เรียนอยู่โรงเรียนเดียวกัน
คลาดกันตลอด เพราะฉะนั้นบทประเภทที่พระเอกจะมาคอยดูแลใกล้ชิด Ming Shu
จะไม่ค่อยมี แต่ดีที่มี Xiao Jin Cheng พี่ชายอีกคนที่ตอนเด็กๆ ดูเป็นตัวแสบมาก
คอยดูแล Ming Shu ในโรงเรียนแทน Xiao Yu'an
พูดถึง Xiao Jin Cheng นิดนึง คาแร็คเตอร์นี้พลิกความคาดหมายมาก
มีสองสามตอนที่อ่านแล้วซึ้งเลย คือดูเค้าเป็นคนชอบแกล้ง ไม่เอาถ่าน
พอเปรียบกับพี่ชายสองคน แต่กับ Ming Shu นี่เค้ามองว่าเป็นน้องชาย
ถ้าใครมารังแกนี่ Xiao Jin Cheng พุ่งเข้าใส่เลย ทั้งๆ ที่ไม่ใช่พี่น้องกันจริงๆ น่ารักมากๆ
เรื่องนี้เป็นนิยายแบบ slow burn คือ slow มากๆ เลยนะคะ 555
กว่าจะรู้สึกตัวกันว่าคิดกับอีกฝ่ายยังไงก็เกือบจบเรื่องแล้ว
Ming Shu รู้ตัวก่อนและรุกก่อน แต่ Xiao Yu'an นี่ดูไม่ออกเลย
รอจนเวลาผ่านไป ผ่านไป และผ่านไป (เหนื่อยเลย อิอิ)
อาจจะเป็นเพราะนักเขียนเค้าวางแผนจะเขียนเรื่องต่อจากนี้ที่มีคู่นี้เป็นตัวเอก
อยู่แล้วก็ได้ เค้าก็เลยเขียนมาออกแนวไม่รีบร้อน ^^" แต่คนอ่านนี่แบบ... 😅
สรุปแล้วให้สี่ดาว หักหนึ่งดาวที่ดำเนินเรื่องช้าไปหน่อย และเพราะความห่างของอายุ
ที่ทำให้การแสดงความผูกพันของตัวเอกสองคนมันแสดงออกได้น้อยไปหน่อย
เพราะมันต้องผ่านอุปสรรคทั้งเรื่องเวลาและระยะทางอ่ะค่ะ
ขอบอกว่า...ถ้าใครต้องการความฟิน คุณจะไม่ได้จากเรื่องนี้
จนเกือบจบเล่มนั่นแหละ 🤣🤣
เรื่องจะดำเนินไปแบบช้าๆ เริ่มตั้งแต่ตัวเอกของเรื่องคือ Ming Shu อายุ 5 ขวบ
กับ Xiao Yu'an อายุ 11 ได้เจอกันครั้งแรก มันเหมือนการเปรียบเทียบ
ชีวิตของเด็กจากครอบครัว 2 ครอบครัว ซึ่งพื้นฐานน่าจะใกล้เคียงกัน
คือเป็นครอบครัวที่ปู่เป็นทหารทั้งคู่ แต่เติบโตมาแตกต่างกันฟ้ากับดิน
Ming Shu ถูกพ่อแม่ส่งมาให้ปู่ย่าเลี้ยงตั้งแต่เด็กมากๆ และแทบไม่เคยได้รับความสนใจ
จากพ่อแม่เลย ส่วนปู่ดูแล สัมผัสได้ถึงความเป็นห่วง แต่อยู่ในโหมดโหด
เหมือนฝึกทหาร Ming Shu เลยเป็นเด็กที่ขาดความรักความอบอุ่นมากๆ
หลายเรื่องจะน่าสงสารมากๆ ยิ่งถ้าคิดว่าเค้าเป็นเด็กอายุแค่นี้ แต่ต้องมาเจอ
สถานการณ์แบบนี้ น้ำตาจะไหล T0T ถ้าไม่ได้เจอพระเอกที่เป็นห่วงเค้า
และรับเค้าเข้ามาเป็นคนนึงในครอบครัว Ming Shu ไม่น่าจะรอดจากการ
เป็นคนมีอาการทางจิตอ่ะค่ะ (พ่อแม่ Ming Shu นี่สุดยอด รับไม่ด้ายยยย)

I usually am not a fan of realistic romance, but I really loved this one! It was a very engaging but also relaxing reading. I think it was more about character development than romance haha
