9/30/24 I loved how utterly amazing FL was - a true actual badass. So skilled! So stalwart! She really endured a lot more than so many others could - not just FLs but men - and MLs too.
Was a smidgen frustrated by how long it took her to get together with ML, though I get with the super awkward relationship it wouldn't and couldn't be easy. [And then they were kinda together unofficially though not acknowledged or even realized by her... and then they finally WERE together, but only secretly...] and wow did I ... like I don't even want to say "I hated ML's mom" cuz she doesn't even deserve my hate. But I do scorn her. DEEPLY.
Was glad to see the TAE actually did basically redeem himself.
Interesting ending - felt it kinda petered a bit ... though it was nice to see mostly people who deserved punishments got them. [Still think it was WTF for ML to be beaten so badly at the end and then just glossed over like bloop he's okay now!]
Just... :\ I dunno - I get the ending, but didn't love it.

This has all the tropes I like but it's a bit too draggy. The pairing is the female lead Chu Yu, with a heroic and strong personality, and the male lead Wei Yun, a black bellied introverted and devoted character. Chu Yu starts the story being reborn and marries into the Wei family to the eldest Wei son, older brother of Wei Yun. Tragedy strikes and all the Wei men except for Wei Yun die, even Chu Yu's husband.
The first half revolves around wars and politicking as Chu Yu and Wei Yun grow to mutually depend on and support each other as they struggle through this difficult time and try to figure out the cruel strategist behind the tragedy. They're both very young, around 14-15. Chu Yu mainly sees Wei Yun as a younger brother, while Wei Yun's feelings gradually morph into romance and yearning. The two then separated for 4 years as Wei Yun was sent to fight an enemy state. He also needed to mature and be more independent of Chu Yu.
The second half revolves around the two building a relationship as adults and equals. The two reunite after 4 years and Wei Yun is now certain in his romantic feelings and wants to pursue Chu Yu, but she is too afraid of being hurt to love. The author's excellent skill at capturing emotions and psyches comes in here as the two characters emotional progression and changes are very consistent with their personalities and histories, and all their actions make sense. She touches on the difference between dependency and trust, familial love and romantic love, love and lust. These are all the feelings and ideas our two leads learn to distinguish as they mature emotionally to understand their true feelings towards each other.
But the pace of the novel is really slow. The romance is slow as a glacier and some scenes and side plots could have seriously been cut without affecting the story. I also felt that the author wrote herself into a corner with Chu Yu's absolute refusal to face her true feelings for Wei Yue, so much so that the author had to write a 'lust drug' plot point to force Chu Yu to be with Wei Yun (or at least that's how I interpret it).
In her other book, 长风渡, most of the couples exemplified the theme of 'finding happiness and true love in marriage' (even if some of them died). In this novel, almost every couple exemplified 求之不得/seeking and yearning but unable to find happiness. (I LOVE the Grand Princess in this one. Her storyline with Zhao Yue is just so tragic 😭 happy AU please...)
Anyway, this novel is quite 狗血/melodramatic but not the type of melodrama I usually like... sadly.

感情部分不错，权谋部分也还可以，就是铺垫有点多，最后却达不到效果。男女主火花四溅，真的很香的cp，剧情稍微有点慢，有的地方连着看也会觉得无聊，总体来讲还是不错滴。

文笔流畅，读得蛮舒服，故事节奏也顶好。只不过故事开端的家国情怀（前几章写的是真的好，情感非常到位）没有延续到后半段，导致后面的权谋情节带入感不强。群像也不到位，就是一群好看的男性角色围着心仪的女角色转。总的来说是可以看，但会更推荐墨书白的另一部小说《长风渡》—— 故事情节有些相似但主角的成长经历写得更到位。

1. Nhân thiết tốt
Nhân thiết được viết rất tốt, cực kỳ tốt: lớp lang, chu đáo, có trước có sau.
Đọc đến đoạn Văn Cố võ Vệ của Mặc Thư Bạch, tim mình run lên vì hào hứng. Là một người học viết, mình liền so sánh với một thiết lập tương tự ở một tác phẩm trước đây mình đọc: Gian thần chi muội.
Tuy GTCM mình hay đọc lại để giải trí “ăn liền” cũng nhiều, nhưng rõ ràng GTCM không sâu sắc bằng SHC.
Lý Duy Nguyên và Thuần Vu Kỳ (nam chính và thứ của GTCM) cũng được mô tả là Hữu và Tả tướng ngang tài ngang sức của triều đình. Nhưng dường như chỉ nói xuông, chỉ trên bề mặt.
Còn Mặc Thư Bạch làm cách nào không rõ, nhưng đặc điểm, phẩm chất trực tiếp, và ngay cả những thứ vô hình như xu hướng hành động, cái “vibe” của từng nhân vật được đắp nặn rõ ràng trong tiềm thức của người đọc.
2. story engine siêu mạnh
Đối với mình, story engine, 1 là tò mò, từ lúc đọc văn án, không biết sau này mối tình chị dâu em chồng sẽ được tháo gỡ như thế nào trong bối cảnh đạo đức của xã hội thời bấy giờ.
Sau này khi đọc được vài chương rồi, động cơ thứ 2 của mình là mong chờ khúc gặp lại của Cố Sở Sinh và Sở Du.
Truyện được viết theo góc nhìn của Sở Du, nên đôi khi mình cảm thấy sự việc vẫn chủ quan và cảm tính mơ hồ lắm. Ví dụ, đối với Sở Cẩm và CSS là hai người lầm lỗi với nàng đời trước, nhiều lúc SD dùng những tính từ tiêu cực như “tâm cơ” hay “hung ác”… nhưng cho mình cảm giác mơ hồ. Mình không có đủ chứng cứ để kết luận, “ác” đến mức nào, “tồi” đến mức nào. Tuy truyện có kể về các việc làm “không đúng” của CSS và Sở Cẩm, nhưng mình luôn cảm thấy không toàn vẹn, không khách quan.
Vì vậy mình luôn mong chờ pov của CSS, ngoài việc xem CSS bị “ngược” ntn thì mình cũng quan tâm đến lý giải tâm lý của nhân vật.

1. thích nhân vật Cố Sở Sinh vô cùng.
Từ các chương ba mươi mấy là đã cảm giác thích nhân vật của CSS còn hơn là nhân vật của Vệ Uẩn, mà đến chương này là được confirmed, được xác định rõ ràng hơn trong mình. Bởi vì nhân vật này có nội tâm, diễn biến và động cơ tâm lý phức tạp, đa chiều. Bởi vì đen không thuần đen, trắng không thuần trắng. Bởi vì Mặc Thư Bạch làm người đọc đúng là phải thừa nhận tài cán của người này, tuy có thể đối với nhân vật trung tâm, là một người không tốt.
Đọc truyện lần đầu hứng thú với một thằng ex tồi hơn là nam chính.
2. Miêu tả tâm lý của hai bên, của cả nữ chính Sở Du và Cố SS siêu tốt, siêu hợp lý
