James Rearden knew what he was: a career officer dedicated to advancing in the Royal Australian Navy to the ranks of Command. He has already enjoyed his time in charge of a patrol ship, and believes himself well situated to take his place among the captains of the country's larger warships. But a political foe changes his destiny and diverts him to a duty for which he is ill-suited, hoping he will fail.
James isn't one to accept failure. And as it turns out, the new assignment is both intellectually challenging and with an unexpectedly pleasant feature of working with people he admires in many ways. While his career might be stalled, at least he might make a difference helping a scientist to achieve her dream.
On the eve of her success, a religious zealot disrupts the process and threatens to destroy them all. What followed... no one could have expected. Forced into a journey that James would never have expected to find outside a work of Science Fiction, him and the small group of survivors will need to use every tool and technique at their disposal to stay alive... and hopefully, find their way home.
* * * * * * * This full-length novel contains science fiction and military style action, adventure, science and violence. There are also explicit scenes of descriptive sex, which includes harem elements and all sorts of naughtiness.
An interesting concept behind this difficult to grasp plot. A true test of leadership and strength of beliefs. Great character development. Recommend this book to sci-fi fans of an appropriate age. Not for children.
The story is well written but us is forever slow once part the I igual action in the first few chapters . from then on they dead Ships dead crew members and a dead world and once the ship was jumped the second time its another dead wor!d with a promise of another secret agent who wi!l.kill more crew members and book 2 is not ready for consumption . it is a technical with close and dagger with not much action . I have to give up for something a bit more I interesting. I would add this this book has much more dialog than actual excitement . they are lost in another realm but one is no more exciting than the other and I don't trust book 2 to be much different
Very different world view. A United Nations Naval fleet trying a new power source. Terrible consequences occur killing most of the fleet leaving only a few survivors. Of course Keys has the hero surviving with 9 female officers and scientist among a few others. Strange new worlds and horrors await. Well done storylines with some interesting twists.
The storytelling is very compelling while also interweaving deep knowledge of navy systems and international cultures. Glad I read it even though I’ll stop on this book.
My only complaint is the last chapter that released the floodgates on a harem all at once. It seems forced and a departure from how this story was told. Too many characters changing too rapidly off camera.
I have to say I really enjoyed this one. Read some of the reviews and even the slightly negative ones were not enough to put me off. I'm glad that I did read it. Lots of action and interesting story line. There were points where I was hoping it would hurry along to the main antagonist popping back up, but that is what made this so good. Lots of issues for the crew to survive and that doesn't include the villain. I can't wait for book 2
I frequently read LitRPG but took a break with this book. I really enjoyed it, it seems like the author really knows or researched the Navy environment and the interesting naval facts and figures make this really nice to read and ending. As far as harem or unconventional relationship, there was not really anything going on in this first book of a series. The story is going e and makes me want to see for this journey takes this group, so I do hope for more books to follow.
Mr. Keys has taken us on a memorable ride with the start of this epic tale. Bringing the science to the harem fiction is done brilliantly, ant all the characters leap off the pages. I honestly thins might be my new favorite series.... Slice of life sci-fi harem goodness!!!!
A twist on the displaced put of time idea. There is quite a bit going on. But very good plot, well developed characters, action and adventure. The sex, is within the bounds of the story not contrived or shoe horned in. Overall a great book I'm looking forward to Book 2!
The MC is extremely realistic in character, and is mannerisms and actions. Some of the science is overdone, I'm a Physics guy and I am found it overly convoluted - it could have been simplified. A couple of plot holes, but but overall very nicely crafted story. Look forward to Volume Two.
The storyline was great! The main character was well developed. We only got to know just a few of the others very well, but I am sure we will get to know them in the course of the series. I didnt see any grammatical errors. I am looking forward to the next installment!
The world building and the storyline are first rate. This story stands by itself as the beginning of an epic tale that is engrossing the erotic addition of the characters relationships gives it more substance.
Not sure what this was supposed to be. The whole book should have been put into 8 chapters at most. There was no reason for 33% of the book to be backstory. Then the rest was just slow paced garbage.
4.5. A better-than average effort from the author, IMO. It takes a while, but you know it's going to be a harem-ish thing so no surprises when it finally happens. Good potential for a sequel, so we'll see what follows.
What an amazingly different sci-fi fantasy story!!! Great characters, great science fiction and simmering adult fantasy action!!! I for one ant wait to see how this series develops!!!
This story held me from the very first chapter. The concept of inter dimensional travel is very intriguing. To add that to the company of a number of beautiful women, highly intelligent, and qualified women adds the cherry on top. Look forward to book 2 .
The writing is okay. The plot is not bad. The characters make cardboard look exciting. The interactions read like what one would expect from a poorly written police report.
I enjoyed this book and I think it has potential to be a good series. I like that the mc is no over the top and I like how the relationships are developing. I enjoy the possibility of dimensional world's.
This was a good read with a very slow build up. The world building was okay. I enjoyed the struggles the MC and crew experienced and look forward to the next book.
Realistic setting with realistic characters being human.Adult reading without getting tediously pornagraphic. Can't wait to see where this crew of lost souls lands next!
Excellent book, loved it. The harem aspect somewhat unusual, since it develops far more slowly than usually; however, characterization is very good in my opinion. Just one drawback: I feel having major world countries sending female-only representatives is hard to believe... Eagerly waiting for book 2. + general comment: Shawn Keys is very good (loved xmas, halloween ... short/medium stories)
