Vino & Veritas #16

Unforgettable

Rate this book
One night with Reeve Hale wasn’t enough. I knew it when I kissed him, I knew it when I slept with him, and I was certain of it when I walked out of his motel room the very next day.

So when the shy, gorgeous man is introduced as our newest employee at Vino and Veritas, I can’t help but conjure up all the ridiculous ways to convince him to repeat that unforgettable night. Like asking him to be my fake boyfriend at my sister’s upcoming wedding.

Only, I didn’t expect him to say yes.

Playing pretend shouldn’t feel this real. Especially when Reeve is planning on leaving Vermont after the summer.

We agreed to one night. We negotiated a fake relationship. But I’m the one who broke our terms. I wasn’t supposed to fall in love and he was never supposed to be so unforgettable.

4.5 Addicted to Him ⭐

Marley Valentine is a beautiful storyteller. Honestly you're missing out if you haven't read anything by her. Unforgettable would be the perfect start. A romantic, steamy and heartwarming love affair between two men in no position for a relationship.

He looks like a mix of strength and submission, and fuck if that isn’t my kryptonite.

Set in the Vino and Veritas universe, Reeve is on a temporary hiatus in Vermont. Wanting to experience everything during his short stay, he agrees to a hook-up through a dating app. And he hits the jackpot with Oz.

Oz is trying to find his path. According to his parents he's just cruising through life by 'playing' barman. Yet they don't understand that all he ever wanted was to be happy. This is somehow becoming more possible after the hottest night of his life with Reeve.

If smitten was a smile, it would be the one he was wearing right now. Like he said, this is dangerous, but it also feels inevitable.

Two gorgeous men completely besotted with one another. Except one can't stay and the other's not looking for commitment. However when Reeve agrees to help Oz by posing as his fake boyfriend, staying away from each other isn't an option. In fact, it's impossible.

Both men were adorable, hot and just lovable. Unforgettable had amazing ambience, and I enjoyed every sexy moment of it.💙

Unforgettable is book sixteen in the Vino and Veritas. This is my first book in the V&V series, and now I need to binge-read the whole series. No worries, this book is standalone.

Reeve is shy, and moves to Vermont for the summer to get away from expectations that are expected of him and to live outside his usual. He Meets Oz for a one-night stand from an app, and they have an unforgettable night. Several weeks later, Reeve gets a job at V & V, unknown to him that Oz works there. So imagine their surprise when they see each other.

The plans I have for you include slow, delicious torture,” he informs me. “I want to wring orgasm after orgasm out of you.”

Oz and Reeve decide to be friends. However, Oz needs a fake boyfriend for his family, and Reeve agrees. These two can't keep their hands off each other, and it's so moving. My heart melted for these two.

I fell into the wonderful world of Oz, and I didn't want to leave. I couldn't get enough of these two. Unforgettable started with a bang, and I was afraid that point on the book would fizzle. I should have known better with Marley Valentine; she has such a beautiful way with words. Unforgettable is a steamy, intense book. It's about expectations, the pressure of family, and Happiness.

This might be an unnecessary harsh review in hindsight but seriously, I can't believe I even finished it. I was hoping it would pick up and I would end up at least loving the ending... guess what? I shouldn't have. Sorry in advance.

The first word coming to mind after reading this is uninspired. The second boring. The third is a sentence and it is: could've been fixed with a little rewriting and editing.

Rant alert!!
I'm usually a big fan of the fake dating trope, but there's a slippery road not making one of your characters a martyr and I knew, right from the start that Reeve would be a martyr. And not just any kind of martyr. A class A kind of martyr. Like google martyr and you'll see a picture of Reeve. He was a martyr throughout the whole book. The whole book. I probably could've warmed up to him at the end if he hadn't had the 80% freakout and running away. He had though. And it happened more around 85% in the book and that just didn't leave the reader enough time to have him and Oz being happy. The ending was pretty much I forgive you and done. I cannot stand that. I need more time in the happy. I really, really do.
Nothing really happened. Oz and Reeve meet, they hook up and suddenly they are working together. And act as each other's boyfriend for a wedding, they catch feelings and Reeve runs. And then comes back. The end. Not even an epilogue letting us see them happy in the future. Nothing.

Ok, I'm calmer now what that out of my system. And once again, sorry for my harsh ranting. I've really enjoyed quite a few of the books in this series and some of them haven't worked for me it at all, but no other book in this series have made me mad. Except this. This is by far my least favorite book in the series.

Aaaaaand another one bites the dust…

I’m actually the biggest fan of the hookup-with-a-stranger trope so this book looked somewhat promising. But why, I mean WHY, do authors have to make this boring after the hookup? This was like a plot I feel I’ve read way too often. They have phenomenal sex as strangers, then meet again and discover that for some dumb reason or another they can’t do it again, like here, they suddenly work together at V and V. ”But let’s be friends.” is then the death sentence for my excitement and cause for a hard eye roll.

No idea if there is anything interesting happening later (fake boyfriends for a wedding is also not really my jam) but probably not by the looks of it. *yawn

*** I received an eArc from Heart Eyes Press in exchange for an honest review.***

This was another winning entry in the Vino & Veritas series. Unforgettable focuses on two likable characters, Oz and Reeve, who initially meet for a one-night stand, where they have undeniable chemistry that quickly builds from there once they are forced to work together, which is a surprise for both characters.

Unforgettable includes a fake dating trope that quickly disappears as both Oz and Reeve's feelings for one another, which were present from their first introduction quickly grows as they develop an earnest friendship.

I enjoyed how this story tackled self-esteem, past relationship trauma, and overcoming intimacy-related fears. Both Oz and Reeve were perfect for one another and I enjoyed reading their light and heartfelt romance that earns their HEA.

This was another great entry in the V&V series and I cannot wait for the next one.

Reeve’s never had a one night stand and Oz certainly gives him a memorable one. For me too because these guys are pretty damn combustible.

Our boys think that night is it until they realize that Reeve’s new job is Oz’s old one. Then Oz falls down a rabbit hole with his family in which he needs Reeve to be his fake boyfriend between now and his sister’s wedding in 7 weeks.

Yeah, they’re the worst fake boyfriends ever, barely any time passed before they were breaking that no touching rule. Plus don’t even get me started when their hearts got involved.

The biggest takeaway from this is love of family and they both had good ones in totally different ways. Reeve had his sister and niece and Oz had an entire brood. But that lovely brood welcomed Reeve with open arms and I just loved the hell out of that. They were all so stinking cute!

The angst was at the end and kinda felt unnecessary to the plot but I understand the need for some kind of turmoil. We can’t have our cake and eat it too, not even in fiction.

Another super lovely edition to the Vinos and Veritas series.

Marley Valentine knows how to stir the heart strings and she does a brilliant job with this entry in the excellent Vino & Veritas series.

From the off, it's clear there is more than just a hook-up when the two meet. They're early 20s, Reeve is 23, Oz two years older, and they're both struggling with parental pressures, albeit in totally different ways.

For me, it just fell short of a 5* review because of one issue - Reeve's determination to not be the guy he was with his old boyfriend - which wasn't ever actually expanded on.

The narrative concentrates more on his absolute determination to go back home and work for his parents in spite of knowing he will hate it, but it keeps pushing this secondary thread too which doesn't get any more details given to it.

It's a minor point, and wasn't one which derailed the book at all, I really loved both the characters and their journey into realising that the other was someone special that they should keep hold of.

But Oz was very definitely my favourite of the two guys. He was the one who fell, and fell hard, in spite of his previous life as a one-night stand only kinda guy.

Oz's family are also awesome, even as his parents push him to be the best he can, although within the parameters they feel he should be fitting into.

It's not because they don't love him though, they absolutely do, and this contrast between how Oz's family are, and Reeve's parents' absolute disinterest in either of their children, is brilliantly done.

It's seriously steamy too, as they explore the physical attraction between them and get themselves embroiled in a fake boyfriend plot which is well constructed and starts to have complications almost straight away.

Neither of them can stay away from the other but it's not just sexual, they connect on a friendship level too. Reeve encourages Oz to pursue his plans for an Instagram business, Oz tries to get Reeve to see he should be living his life for himself.

The usual V&V crew are around, but not as heavily involved in this one, with the exception of Murphy, who is Reeve's flatmate. His book is rounding out the series and I absolutely cannot wait to read my ARC of Undone

Oz + Reeve.

Oz is 25 years old and a bartender at Vino & Veritas. Of his four siblings he's a bit of the loser of the family. At least that's what he thinks his parents think of him..
Reeve is the new guy at V&V.
And also the guy Oz had an amazing hook-up-app-night with recently.
Reeve is only in Vermont for a few months until he has to start working for the family company in Boston.

Adorable!
I loved this story.
Two young guys who haven't yet found their place in life.
And their love life is not looking too good either, because Reeve is leaving soon.
This was so sad and heartbreaking but also so funny and sweet and sexy and .. just adorable. I loved those two guys and the siblings and one set of parents.

And as I mentioned in every one of my World of True North reviews - I could read these kinds of books every day for the rest of eternity!

I also wouldn't mind seeing this whole world on Netflix one day!

Can't wait to get more Vermont soon!

UNFORGETTALE was such an adorable + sexy + sweet + fun M/M love story! I loved reading it! Run to your nearest amazon for your own Oz + Reeve - they'll be sold out in no time!

Reeve was a pod person

Writing this review as I read the book….

Both Reeve and Oz have problematic relationships with their parents. This bonds them. Oz’s parents are very passive aggressive. It is painful. Reeve’s parents are passive yet controlling. Why he would sacrifice his happiness at 23 years old is beyond comprehension.

I’m 54% in and it’s weird how deep the author went on character development with Oz but is only surface with Reeve at this point. He’s kind of a pod person 😬

I’m further along and I still feel this way. It’s weird on a dual POV to feel like you really don’t know another MC.

Ok I totally HATE Reeve! He breaks Oz’s heart in the most brutal way. I know there will be an HEA but honestly Oz can do better.

At 100% and still think Oz can do better. The book sort of just ends. We never find out more about Reeve the most unlikeable MC I’ve read in awhile. Like I wanted a toaster to be thrown into his bath water kind of unlikeable. Never found out what happened to his relationship with Micah that got him to move away from Seattle. Very skimpy on details for Reeve. Therefore, I never warmed to him. I’m going to read Murph’s book next and HOPE the bad taste goes away. I’m ugh right now AND😣😣bitterly disappointed 😔

This book had one of my favorite characters I've read this year.. OZ!

It's not a surprise that I am #MarleyManiac. She write pretty pretty words and stories that tug on the heartstrings. This is admittedly her least angsty book and I LOVED it.

What I Loved;

1. The Characters:
Oz: He was just one of the most beautiful characters I've read. So genuine, sweet, strong and hopeful. He loves life, is carefree and is determined to live his best one no matter what. #LiveLoveLife

Reeve: He is a character that will definitely make you a bit sad. He is being made to live a life he doesn't want. He's a soft soul who has been burned both by his past boyfriend and parents. He is also a dotting uncle and is so cute with his niece! #SweetSoul

2. The Plot:
This is a one-night stand, friends to lovers trope that should have been temporary but was anything but. These men enjoyed each other's company and became confidants as well. There is also a fake-relationship trope that starts to get complicated from the very beginning... no surprise there. #NoStringsYeahRight

3. The Romance:
Even with their ONS, these men had a palpable connection from the very beginning. Their friendship was natural and sweet, but there was always an undercurrent of lust and attraction that the men try to ignore. Needless to say... they fail miserably. what was supposed to be a fake relationship turns into a real one, with the men both supporting each other in their dreams. #AlwaysByYourSide

4. Steam-o-meter: This is definitely Marley's steamiest book to date. these men's sex scenes and the UST when they were trying to be "just friends" was just delicious! #PantiesWentPoof

5. Angst-o-meter: Low angst. This is also Marley's least angsty book... there is a bit of sad part towards the end that I thought was crucial for the characters. #FeelGoodBook

6. The HEA: Adorable and heartwarming and so cute! #FromNowUntilForever

Marley Valentine completely stole my heart with this beautiful MM romance! Her MM romance stories are a treat. I just love her writing. Every time I pick up one of her books, I just get completely lost in it. When I heard that she was writing one set in the World of True North, I was thrilled! UNFORGETTABLE is a completely engaging story featuring two compelling characters. Oz and Reeve have stolen my heart and I don't want it back. These two will tug at your heartstrings with their vulnerability. But then they'll have you swooning and laughing, and sighing in pure delight. I couldn’t get enough of their heartfelt love story with its humour, heat, sweetness, and raw emotion. Enticing from the very beginning, they simmered, sizzled, and burnt up the pages whilst simultaneously breaking and capturing my heart.

I loved Oz and Reeve’s story so much. I loved how their story unfolded, and the way they not only fell in love, but also how they found themselves and their path to happiness. They both gave me so many emotions and they both had such a vulnerability that made my heart hurt for them both. But it also gave them a lot to work through which made their relationship all the better. They were such a perfect match, and Marley Valentine could not have written them any better. I loved how both of them learned to go after what they wanted, how they learned from past mistakes and grew with their experiences.

UNFORGETTABLE is a delightful and heart-warming story that made me smile from start to end. I am so obsessed and sprung on Oz and Reeve. I was so caught up in their romance and the feels of their story. They captivated me and gave me all the sexy, swoony and emotional moments I have come to expect from this author.

[3.4~3.5] anyone who knows me knows that the fake relationship trope is MY JAM so of course i ate this up like a five-course meal 🤤

the way these two are so genuinely invested in each other’s dreams and happiness, how they can’t keep their hands off each other (hands off rules notwithstanding), how they communicate honestly via Never Have I Ever, how they share everyday yet equally momentous moments as simple as the bike scene 🥺🥺 if the whole story had just been a collection of these chest-clutching & awwww-inducing episodes, five stars for sure. in other words, there’s no denying their chemistry together!! …..when a certain someone’s not caught up in his head, that is.

which leads me to what brought my rating down. time to pull out my niggle list as per usual 🥸

⚠️ spoilers littered throughout so turn back now if that bothers you!! ⚠️

- no to the no, we got a romance reader’s worst nightmare: the (in this case, unofficial but also technically official ‘cause they ain’t fooling no one lol) breakup scene 🥲

- Reeve is so intent on making their relationship not work for numerous reasons (relationships are too much for him emotionally having only recently come out of one, has a self-imposed obligation to fulfill his parents, etc.). he mentions the ex thing more than a few times and it’s obviously left behind several still-healing wounds on his heart, yet we never get the juicy deets so i found it hard to sympathize with his deep-seated fear and constant pulling away from Oz (Reeve simultaneously acknowledges that Oz’s frustration and anger with him are completely understandable while continuing to do exactly what causes those feelings anyway. why does everyone love hurting the people they care about the most…..😔). anyway, i saw that period of separation (4 weeks tho, really??) charging at me from a mile away 😤

- was it just me or did it feel like variations of *dramatic gaze toward the horizon* but this won’t last 😩 were included in practically every chapter, be it in the middle, at the very end, or both? wears a girl down with the constant reminders as frequent and intrusive as spam mail 😂

- pesky sex getting in the way of important talks to be had tsk tsk. they know perfectly well they need to have a conversation but they keep pushing the inevitable as far as possible before circumstances force the convo on them and by then it’s a bit too late….

⚠️ end of spoilers!!! ⚠️

i was pleasantly surprised to find that i didn’t really mind Oz’s family and the sisters on both sides. the mcs’ family problems are very much centered around parental expectations and the like, so word of warning if that’s not your cup of tea.

in summary, i love the mcs when they’re spending time with each other without a care in the world, but the contrived conflict and communication mishaps meant to drive a wedge between them, not so much. any other week and i’d say 3.3* but rounding up as this book helped me relax at the end of a hellish work week 😆

shoutout to Murph aka Reeve’s voice of reason (although his words of warning were often left unheeded lol). off to read his story next!

It was a pleasure to read Unforgettable.
I've enjoyed the fake relationship storyline and the steamy physical attraction.

It starts as a one night stand between Oz and Reeve but they end to work close to each other. They look nothing alike but they share the same uncertainty about the future and the pressure of their parents' expectations.

Oz is the perfect man, he has a big heart and he always put others' happiness before his, I was sad for him because he couldn't see his real worth. Reeve is a nice man who never knew what real love is, I was so happy for him when he finds out how it feels to be part of a real family when he was with Oz's family.
I cheered and supported these characters and I wanted to see them reaching their HEA.

I recommend it for those who like insta-chemistry and insta-feels.

The long, hot night of sex was unforgettable !
Our men had the hook-up, but later meet again and begin to become friends with benefits. We feel the joy between these two, it's palpable, while they enjoy each other's company. Their stories run parallel, and we see what that means to them.
Oz, 25, is 6"4', big muscles, blue eyes,

and short to the scalp with scruff. He's working at Vino, not much on relationships, his family is close knit, but do not understand him.
Reeve is new to town, fresh from a breakup,

with chestnut hair, close sided with long tousled on top, brown eyes, clean shaven, tall and lean. His new job is at Vino and Veritas in the bookstore, and is distancing himself from family.

Their feelings slowly come into the picture, and they are fighting it. Reeve has been long set to work with his family finance business, and doesn't see a way out of it.

This story is all about the "feels" we get from the men.

Each fills a deep seeded need. How will they ever work it out?

Their sexy times are fabulous, scorching hot, and we see lots of it. Intense emotions, passion, and the "L" word, too.

I liked this story so much, because the characters are special and caring, and it's heartwarming, too.

The sadness at the thought of Reeve going home is overpowering, and he screws up. We watch them suffer, struggle, and we feel their pain. Reeve has to muscle-up.

Terrific !
ENJOY ! :)

Marley Valentine is one of my fav MM authors. From time to time I always gravitate back to my few fav authors, just because I know I won't be disappointed after finishing the book and when I need this feeling the most. They prevent me to go into reading slump.

This story was romantic and sweet with erotic scenes, both characters sweet and solid. I can't wait to read some other books by Marley.

It was just supposed to be one night.

Oz works the stock room at Vino and Veritas. He is big, gruff, confident, and considers himself more of a hook-up than a relationship guy.

Reeve connects with Oz on a hook-up app. He has just come out of a relationship, is new to the area, and is not used to hooking up. He is shy, anxious, smart, and funny. And Oz proves himself to be considerate and patient with him, while also having an amazing experience together.

But when they find themselves seeing each other and working in close proximity after their hot one-night stand, they try to head back to the friend zone. But then one needs a bit of a fake relationship, but that should still be safe as long as they have rules. But then real feels, real chemistry, and a set timeline make it more dangerous. It is back and forth with trying to set and then breaking boundaries. Resistance and denial are followed by a magnetic pull they cannot stop. But all along these two are connecting, understanding, and truly seeing the other's true selves while also finding out more about themselves. But time is ticking and fear and self-protection are harsh reminders of reality.

I loved these two together. In some ways, they are opposites, but in other ways have such a deep understanding. They are not afraid to be vulnerable and share their real hopes and dreams. They often bring out the best in each other, but sometimes the intensity also sends them into their own heads. Reeve has obligations and his life planned out, and Oz is still coasting and trying to figure his future out. And they both have some interesting family dynamics.

This is a hot, fun, emotional, and heartfelt story about finding love and inspiration when you least expect it. It is ultimately about two different men who need to be brave enough to make their own choices, stand up for themselves, and buck expectations if there is any chance of embracing life on their own terms and being happy.

I loved these guys and being back in the V & V world. I also adored Reeve's roommate Murph and I was excited he gets his own story, in Undone by Leslie McAdam.

Marley Valentine is just of those authors that can always hit me in the feels even when I don't think she means to.

Oz & Reeve's story was probably one of my favorites in the Vino & Veritas series. All the books in this series revolve around Vino & Veritas the wine bar and bookstore. Different couples' part of the LGBTQ+ community finding love on their own terms and in their own way.

Reeve was the boy who had his heartbroken and was just trying to escape from the real world for the summer before "real life" began. He wanted a one-night stand to help get over his ex and Oz was the perfect candidate because he wasn't looking for anything serious either. Then their one-night stand turned into working together and him being Oz's fake boyfriend and now all those pesky feelings are stronger than ever. He never wanted this, but now he wants Oz more than he has ever wanted anything.

Oz doesn't do relationships, but Oz had never met Reeve either. Their chemistry was off the charts, and he thought he would never see him again but seeing him at Vino & Veritas was almost like a second chance come to pass. Except, Reeve was only here for the summer and Oz was more than happy to be his fun time friend until the whole "fake boyfriend" fiasco. Now, all he wants is to be Reeve's real boyfriend.

Can these two sides of the same coin get their heads on straight long enough to realize that what they both need is one another.

Tim Paige is one of those narrators that snuck up on me. I've heard him for years now, but it wasn't until last year that I was like "Ohhhh I get it" and I do because he is phenomenal!! The emotions and feelings he put into his characters just do it for me. Cooper North was a new to me narrator and at times I was completely swoony for his narration and others I felt like he was completely detached.

This was my first Vino & Veritas novel in a while, and it made me realize how much I truly adored this series. I can't wait to dive back into another one soon but for now I have memories of Oz & Reeve to keep me company.

Oz and Reeve were so sweet together! Reeve is just so endearing, he stole my heart from the get-go. Oz is one of those characters who surprises you with how much depth they have- there's so much more to him than he lets people see. Except Reeve, he really opened up and let him in and I loved that.
These two were just so good for each other!

I love how this series has characters that cross over from book to book, but each book can definitely be read as a standalone. I've missed this series and can't wait to dive back in to more!

How can i explain the cuteness of this book??!
I fell really hard for Oz and Reeve😍
I loved their teasing each other , the effortless way they interact.....
They made me laugh, swoon, sweat and even cry a bit 🥺
I read it in one sitting because i just couldn't stop.
It’s one of those story that made me feel like i couldn't read fast enough, while at the same time dreading the end of it.
These are the feelings i have been missing lately, apart from few exceptions, and i couldn't be happier right now because those feelings are what makes reading so special.
So thanks Marley Valentine 💜

Read if you love MM romance, but this was boring to me. I still don't know why they took so long to be together

I received this ebook as an ARC from the publisher in return for an unbiased review.

I feel like I need to start out by saying that I have loved all the other work I’ve read by this author. And I was super thrilled to review this arc for her!

But, and this is a huge but. I did NOT like this book.
It took so much effort to get to 70% read and I STILL ended up DNF.

I honestly have no idea what the conflict of the plot was.
It felt to me like the two men couldn’t be together because… i don’t even know why. It was all very woe is me, I’m only here for the summer- la la la.
The only memorable bit about this book was the entire montage of reeve learning to ride a bike and failing spectacularly at it.

The main characters had such strong feelings after spending approximately two hours together (not including all the $eX they had when they first met) and it didn’t make any sense as to why. I felt like the connection was meant to be “insta love” but it wasn’t authentic- probably because, the only thing they had in common was that they felt smothered by their parents. That and that they just refused to be together for lord knows what reason.

Oz was basically all muscles and a big dick who felt misunderstood by his family.
While Reeve was as close to a manic pixie as he could get without actually being Zoe Deschanel.
I couldn’t connect to either character, or the plot.
I was basically just annoyed every-time I opened this book.

Marley Valentine can write one heck of a steamy scene, but aside from that there was very little about this novel I enjoyed and it really bums me out. Because like I said, I really have liked all the other novels that I’ve read of hers.
