I think this is a good start as a prequel to the new series. I guess I'm a little guarded because it is so hard for the post-apoc authors to be original. In this book, during a solar flare Air Force One crashes into downtown Denver. But Kyla Stone crashed a huge jet into downtown Chicago in an EMP back in 2019. So that's been done. Oh, Mike Krauss himself crashed Air Force One with the President on board in 2017/2019's "Surviving the Fall." So, that's been done. Don't even get me started on all the Government agents who are fighting and shooting their way toward post-apocalyptic survival in this genre. That's the plot of this book but has already been way overdone. But, I'm encouraged that Mr. Krauss has a knack for staying on the cutting edge of novel ways to destroy humanity. I was heartened by his fungal attack in the "Spore" series and now he and his co-author have destroyed the ozone layer leaving mankind to shrivel up like a couple of billion prunes from UV rays. Very encouraging. Just be careful dear authors, the title "Edge of" has been done before too.

What a good first book of this post-apocalyptic series. It had a little different take of "the end of the world". Looking forward to the next book in the series!
As the sun itself seems to be erupting, burning away the Earth's ozone layer protection, Air Force One, with President Harrison his Doctor and aides, plus Secret Service Agent Scott Baker and his team, are caught in its catastrophic after-effects, that have already affected every plane worldwide. Following their crash landing, the few survivors are horrified to find the solar event causes heat rays strong enough to rapidly burn people alive and that the cemetery-like remains of Denver, have been virtually razed to the ground. How does Scott get the necessary supplies? Who attacks him and what do they do next? What happens when Scott returns to the wreckage? Is this the end of Life on Earth?
Find out in Sun Burn, Justin Bell and Mike Kraus' excoriating prequel, to their survivalist-adventure, Edge of Ruin series, that will shock you to the core - and is guaranteed to thrill throughout!
Sun Burn Edge of Ruin #0.5 Sci-Fi Justin Bell & Mike Kraus ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book was a good introduction to the Edge of Ruin series.
The pacing was fast and I could feel the tension from the very first page.
I liked the action and the sense of desperation caused by the catastrophic event was strong.
Scott and Dr Prescott were my favourite characters. It was a shame when Dr Prescott died because I could tell she would've been an asset to the survivors.
I didn't see the twist coming so I was surprised when it happened. It was interesting to see Scott's reaction and what his next move would be.
I will be reading the next book and I look forward to finding out what happens next.
Mike Kraus and Justin Bell wove a situation possibility that could happen. The different reactions the characters are showing seemed possible. The varied reactions of the characters made me wonder about how people that I am close to might react if it happened. Lack of action today appears to bring consequences tomorrow and I am heeding the prepping advice now that has appeared in all the books that I have read.
Definitely an interesting choice of apocalyptic disaster. The catastrophe has described strange credibility a touch, but there are far more oddities in this universe than an outside coronal mass ejection. This is not a fun book, but it sure is a good read.
Another spectacular beginning to a new series. Full of action and suspense to keep you wondering what could possibly happen next. When the dark is safer or is it. The characters really bring the story to life.
Short but good prequel to what should be an action-packed series. The disaster and location are unique as compared to other post-apocalyptic stories I’ve read before. I’m looking forward to Book 1.
This is a really good short prequel story! Just enough to wet the whistle if you like! It left me intrigued & wanting to read more of this series! A good fun read!
