Rate this book
'Scotty was a huge part of our journey coming together as a team' Gareth Southgate, England manager

In Never Give In , former Royal Marine Major Scotty Mills blends personal experiences from his remarkable life and career with inspirational advice and insights to provide his 12 Commando Rules for Life that could help anyone to do better and reach their targets.

A sudden downpour while Scotty Mills was walking down a street in South London sent him diving for cover into the nearest shop. It turned out to be a recruitment centre for the Royal Marines and, after a few minutes' conversation while waiting for the rain to stop, Scotty was hooked and signed up to join the elite force. It changed his life and set him on a new direction that would end up with him leading the Marines on operations around the world, becoming an Olympic flag bearer in 2012 and dining at Buckingham Palace with the Queen and the royal family.

Scotty shares his lessons of performance and resilience with the reader, inviting them into the secrets of elite culture . His compelling story is one that combines tragedy with remarkable insight about the power of human inspiration. Scotty has worked with many of our nation's top sports teams, helping them to achieve their goals, and in Never Give In he shares his methods with his readers to guide them to peak performance in all aspects of their life and career.

A motivational book. It's hardly the most poetic, very much written as he would talk, full of half-explored stories and succinct anecdotes from his life and others. Nevertheless, the core is hearty, and both wise and gritty. If you wanted a book espousing 12 rules for life, then this is the one I'd recommend.

I picked up this book in my local library and was immediately drawn in. I am approaching 50 and I have felt nervous about what this will mean for me. I loved the values shared in this book and the personal way they were shared. I was very suprised at the approach that was discussed in this book, as my assumption was all things military would be shouty and uncaring; the opposite here was true. The book broke a lot of my misconceptions. The bit that breaks it down for you into simple goals was really helpful. I feel like I've missed out in someways by not joining the Marines earlier in life! But happy to be considered an honourary one - 'Old Lady' Comando 😆

I did some time in the Royal Marine Reserves and have a natural bias towards the Marines. Unfortunately this book did not do it for me. It doesn't tell me much I don't know and the only interesting bits were tales of his time in the Marines. Scotty's endorsement of Gareth Southgates inpsirational leadership does not age well after the recent Euro's, and his perpetual failure.

What an inspiration. This book would be useful for anyone in need of some guidance or extra motivation. Anyone with an interest in sports would appreciate the way he has translated his military career into sports coaching. Some very interesting stories and anecdotes and an easy read despite some sadness and stories of combat. I really hope he will write an autobiography some day.

I only read every word of the first 2 chapters, then just the summaries of the others so a bit unfair of me to review it beyond saying everything I read makes sense.

Inspirational

An excellent book, very inspirational to young people and should be placed in school libraries for encouraging drive, pride and how to achieve future goals in life.

I admire the way Scott adapts the ethos and and approaches to all lifestyles and achievements in all walks of life.

A must read for young people to achieve lifetime goals.
