Sophie Racine is a highly trained assassin for the French Secret Service. She is on a mission in the Ukraine, to assassinate a Russian mole who betrayed not only France, but was also responsible for the deaths of some highly trained and important agents, however, that’s not all, this particular mission is also very personal to Racine herself, due to an event that left her traumatised, and nothing will prevent her from seeking out traitor, Sasha Vasilev, and being instrumental in the execution of this valuable Russian asset.

Meanwhile, on a separate mission in the Ukraine, ex SAS trooper and MI6 Officer Aidan Snow, is attempting to secure the freedom of an innocent British student Mohammed Iqbal, who has been kidnapped after being caught up in the conflict in rebel controlled Donetsk.

Time is running out for the pair of them though, as Russia is about to close the borders, essentially trapping Racine and Snow.

As Racine and Snow’s missions collide, it becomes like an action packed Hollywood movie, barely giving time to draw breath, as our kick ass protagonist Racine, and the highly competent Snow, take on the villains, in what is a terrific start to this new series.

Traitors is the first instalment in the Sophie Racine Assassin Thriller series, so good to start a series from the start !

A TRAITOR WHO CAN’T BE CAUGHT
French Intelligence officer Sophie Racine is tasked with travelling into the heart of a warzone in Ukraine. Her mission is to assassinate Sasha Vasilev, a Russian mole who took the French secret service apart piece by piece and gave their secrets to the Kremlin.

A PRISONER WHO CAN’T BE KILLED

A WAR THAT CAN’T BE WON
As Snow and Racine find themselves drawn deeper into the crisis, their missions collide with devastating consequences. Outgunned and outnumbered, their only hope is to fight their way through and out of Donetsk before Russia closes its new iron curtain.

Double agents, moles, sleepers and of course assassins and the return of Aidan Snow, lots of characters and the story really builds well when the two main characters Racine and Snow join together and we have added humour, action and pace in this good gripping spy/action story.

A hint of the Villanelle character(Killing Eve), but a serious version, a great new character to follow, great to have another female lead action star, alongside Rachel Hatch by LT Ryan/Brian Shea and Beatrix and Isabella Rose in Mark Dawsons books.

Traitors is the compulsive first instalment in the Sophie Racine Assassin Thriller series set in Ukraine and featuring ex-SAS officer Aidan Snow from Shaw’s canon. Sophie Racine is a highly-skilled assassin and hitwoman for hire who is employed by The General Directorate for External Security (DGSE), a blacks ops unit and part of the French Secret Service bureau of Foreign Intelligence. She is handed a dossier detailing the target she must trace, locate and kill - a former DGSE operative who was once a French asset but who has been revealed to have been a Russian mole and sleeper agent. And just like that, she is on her way to Ukraine to assassinate the person responsible for bringing death to many agents who were deemed irreplaceable. However, Racine is also seeking out personal vengeance and has a score to settle because Sasha Vasilev precipitated an incident that left her traumatised. If France wants carnage then they have certainly picked the right person for the job. She arrives in the disputed eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk, and although she is on her own, she has all of the assets that her agency can provide her with to make the job run a little smoother.

When she catches wind that innocent British medical student, Mohammed Iqbal, is currently being held captive by the Russians, the DGSE inform MI6 who send Aidan Snow to aid in his release and arrange his extrication. He had been abducted after being inadvertently caught up in the conflict between opposing forces in Donetsk People's Republic. As neither situation for Racine or Snow go exactly to plan they team up to complete their missions in the hope that a helping hand may go a long way. But the country's borders are about to be closed and by now enemies in high places know of Racine and Snow’s presence. Will they manage to avoid the checkpoints springing up all over the city, evade capture and make it home in one piece? This is a scintillating, enthralling and compulsively readable all-action spy thriller packed with lies, deceit, duplicity, danger, espionage antics and double-crossing. One of the best starts to a thriller series in a long time, the action and hand to hand combat sequences are perfectly choreographed and it takes place at full throttle with a badass assassin at its centre. A powerhouse of a thriller laden with explosive twists and pulse-pounding right from the start. Highly recommended.

A brand new thriller series featuring Sophie Racine, a fearless assassin with the inklings of a heart about her and the strength and determination to outwit and outplay anyone
Traitors is as it says, about traitors and Sophie’s, (with the help of Aiden Snow), race agains time to settle scores and free a hostage, played out in Russia, Ukraine and France it really had me hooked from the first page and kept me there throughout, I LOVE these kind of books but on occasion they can ‘tangent off’ and can be hard to follow but not so with this, it’s a high action tense thriller written for the reader and made so you feel involved and part of it
There are surprises throughout and I felt emotional when a character left the story such was my investment in them all
Needless to say this was a terrific read and really look forward to book 2

Everything you want in a spy thriller.

Double agents, moles, sleepers and of course as here in Alex Shaw latest book, traitors. Traitors carries on that fine tradition and maximises the shady work of spies. Perfect to capture our imaginations, as authors set up to write about secret agencies, off the record, covert operation, politically deniable and with agents often sacrificed.

Enter Sophie Racine, (great name) a French patriot who kills for country. There has been a development in recent espionage novels to have female assassins from Nikita to Villanelle. Racine is a worthy addition to that hall of fame.

Time given to fill in a little backstory without getting in the way of the action this book races out of the traps. The workings are familiar as the spy-craft is exercised with deadly effort and clinical expertise.

Loved the backdrop location that he book is mostly set in, giving the story a modern Cold War twist. I also thought the involvement of two operatives with competing interests and objectives also gave the narrative an additional dimension and constant interest. As with most efforts in hostile countries, the chances of a successful mission are hindered by more of them than you. However, there is also additional politics and objectives here so it becomes blurred in terms of who is the hunter and the hunted.

I found the whole plot fun and the outcome always unpredictable. The introduction of Aidan Snow is perfect to involve previous fans of this author’s work. MI6 dovetail well into the whole scenario, with their mission to free a British National a complication to Racine’s DGSE plans.

The book is so readable and despite the large body count always credible and reflective of conflict situations. There is no violence for shock or horror’s sake and the role of arbitrary observers on the ground shows how diplomacy often isn’t enough. So this is an action filled adventure with a range of characters and more than just a sense of good v evil. I liked the reflective passages and the humanity of many of the direct combatants. Racine is a young woman driven by revenge but we are asked if we can dwell in the past without loss to ourselves rather than to live for a better future.

That the novel goes beyond the actions of political departments whose role is sensitive, especially in a modern democracy - this is always an interesting aside. The author shows in the range and depth of this brilliant book that this genre has moved on, and when done well, is still a page turner and a runaway ride. From start to finish this is a book to enjoy and leave you wanting more.

A new series from a talented author. Previous books have featured Aidan Snow, ex SAS and now MI6 operative. He does feature in this book but as a slightly secondary character to Sophie Racine. Sophie is a great character, a French Intelligence agent and a pretty deadly one at that. She has a mission to kill an ex colleague who betrayed her and her service to the Russians.
Set mainly in the Ukraine this is a smart and action packed thriller. The author knows his stuff and that part of the world and that local knowledge just bleeds through in authenticity. Snow does play his part but this is about us being introduced and mesmerised by the new kid on the block.
Enjoyed this a great deal, hope we see more of them both.

I have always loved Alex Shaws work, but this is easily my favourite so far.

The metaphors and adjectives used in this are intellectually stimulating for the reader as well as hearing the descriptions of the scenes and action at large.

Slowly hearing Racine’s story be unraveled to us was beautifully written and I loved and relished in hearing it, I’m glad to have read a story where a female takes the lead, I think Alex got it just right by showing the threats and dangers a female spy can exclusively go through while also showing that a female can hold her own and do the job just as well - if not better - than any man. That was great to see !

I honestly hope there will be a second instalment to the series and must admit the last line especially was awesome to read. Racine is clearly an intelligent, badass character and I really don’t want her story to end yet !

Can confidently say this is a five out of five. If you love action story telling, definitely give Traitors a go. You won’t be disappointed!

Thanks to HQ and NetGalley, too
For my copy of this book.
This is my honest review,
I am sharing, please take a look.

If stories filled with action are your taste
Get this book, no time to waste.
Especially if you enjoy fast paced thrillers
With a female lead whose a skilled killer

This is an action driven read
One which maintains a rapid speed.
The events are described in detail
Bringing them to life - or death - without fail.

This involves a secret service and spies
But not the CIA or the FBI
This features the French DGSE
that’s a new one to me!

Sophie Racine is the main protagonist who
Is sent to the Ukraine with a killing to do
There she meets Aiden Snow from MI6
Who has his own mission but can the two will mix?

It keeps you guessing from beginning to end
Just who are the enemy and who is a friend?
There’s death, danger and peril throughout
A great start to a series of that there’s no doubt.

The first Sophie Racine Thriller. I haven’t read anything by this author before, action thrillers are not my go to genre, I chose this book out of curiosity after seeing the author in an interview.

There are several time frames, where we learn from Sophie’s past how she became an assassin.
Sophie is on a singlehanded vengeance mission against a Russian mole who gave the French secret service secrets to the Kremlin. Even her bosses don’t expect her to survive the mission.
Sophie becomes entwined with Aidan Snow a British MI6 officer who is tasked with releasing a student from war torn Ukraine.

I didn’t gel with the protagonist, or the action heavy storyline.
So overall it was an interesting excursion, but it’s not for me. This is down to my preference rather than shortcomings of the book.
For lovers of crime thrillers with a gutsy female protagonist I think that you would enjoy it.
Thanks to Netgalley for the arc

A new to me author but not for long. This was an ace read and it has a FEMALE lead who is personable, intelligent, has major skills, and has a ruthless streak hiding a soft core. She may not be the friendliest of folk but if you are part of her team, then she has your back.

I loved learning about Sophie's family history and what triggered her into becoming the human weapon that she is. The DGSE don't know how lucky they are to have her on their side! The action moves from France to Ukraine and this mission has a very personal edge for Sophie.

Along the way, she accumulates a ragtag bunch of allies, including MI^ officer Aiden Snow. He has his own mission, running parallel to Sophie's. Will they work together smoothly or will there be a crisis of priorities?

Racine is a kick-butt character. She could show Bond a thing or two. Really enjoyed the fact that there was no real romance introduced between Sophie and Aiden - this stayed a true thriller. Loving the secondary characters - even when some of them are a tad dubious. I'm sure that in further books far more traitors will be found. Great book!

This is a great opening novel in what hopefully will be a very long running series. We are introduced to Sophie Racine, a French special agent, specializing in assassinations and her direct supervisor, Jean Baptiste, along with their Deputy Director Maurice Jacobs. These characters have known each other for quite a few years and are very good at what they do. Racine is sent on a mission to kill a traitor in disputed Ukrainian territory, which dovetails with a British hostage recovery mission. The action is intense, and not for the particularly squeamish, Racine is very good at her job and does not hesitate to use her skills to eliminate any threats to her or her nation. We also meet Aiden Snow, a former teacher and soldier who now works for the British SIS and is tasked with the rescue of a British national who's a student studying medicine in this former Ukraine republic. These two spys team up to facilitate their respective missions and try to actually succeed and hopefully escape the war zone they find themselves in. Fascinating characters, heart stopping action and an intricate plot makes me wish that this is the first of many stories incorporating these characters, I look forward to seeing much more written about Ms. Racine and company.

Alex Shaw’s dangerous protagonist of his new series – Sophie Racine – is a treat to read and is just as badass as the male protagonists of his other series. His latest thriller – Traitors – is filled with high octane cinematic action sequences, espionage, many plot twists, and a good amount of heart. The usual amount of blood and gore is present, but I was surprised to find a likable female action hero written by a male author which wasn’t sexualized to any of the stereotypes.

Sophie, a French assassin for the DGSE, is a complex character that even the male reader base of the genre can empathize with and cheer for as the story develops in its non-linear narrative, but the action is extremely satisfying just like reading a thriller with any badass, crazy, and brilliantly relentless action hero. The DGSE and the French perspective of the protagonists are rare in the genre, but it’s handled well in a believable yet classical way, with more focus on old-school espionage tradecraft.

The plot of Traitors has many moving parts, involving Sophie going into war-torn Ukraine under the cover of a Russian journalist to kill a French traitor who had struck a large blow for the DGSE, an SIS Increment operator in Ukraine who’s rescuing a British citizen held captive by Sophie’s target, multiple personal vendettas that span years(even decades), scheming spymasters with scores to settle, and a fight against overwhelming odds with no backup or support. This is peppered with good doses of dark comedy, wildly fun action-packed escapades, a constant stream of tension and plot twists, realistically seeming tradecraft and action, and high use of non-linear narratives to unravel the numerous connected pieces of the story that give it a personal touch. Too many guns, bombs, grenades, armored vehicles, drones, and more spice up the propulsive narrative, and it felt like watching an awesome movie.

Aiden Snow, the protagonist of another series written by Alex Shaw, has a major role in this book as the British SIS operator sent to rescue the British Muslim student(with secret political connections) help captive by Sophie’s target. Though Snow’s a fun, dangerous, wacky, and smart character who vaguely forms a bond with Sophie as they work together in their connected objectives, he does and also does not steal the show as his major ‘subplot’ never connects to Sophie’s main plot and character arc. I liked that the two operators who meet accidentally in a tough fix are mature enough to avoid territorial/political/tactical disputes over their different countries/agencies/objectives and work together in their own way without hindering each other which is the opposite of what is normally done in such stories.

An interesting side character in the form of a British expat turned pro-Russia English language TV journalist(entertainer/puppet) was an annoying comedic relief at best and a nuisance at worst throughout the story who meets a fitting end in the multi-layered climax. This is a thriller with too many shadowy players involved and though the villain gets terminated, his twisted schemes lay active and give many major characters a tragic end which establishes an overarching story arc for many sequels to come in the series. Traitors can be read as a standalone, but I felt it ended in a very anticlimactic manner with multiple climaxes for the many plot threads that crash disastrously in a shockingly smart and unique narrative that will surprise both the cerebral spy thriller and the adventurous action thriller fanbases.

Alex Shaw’s Traitors is a fresh tale in the genre and is sure to shock and amaze hardcore action thriller and espionage fiction readers who are tired of formulaic and overdone stories. Plus, Ukraine, the main setting of this book, is vividly shown through Shaw’s writing, which has an on-the-ground level of expertise and lucid detail enough to make the location a character/subject of the book. I’m looking forward to the sequel whenever it releases as Sophie Racine is a major character to watch out for in this gritty genre.

A compulsive and page-turning beginning to the new Sophie Racine Assasin series by Alex Shaw and what more than to great start. The story furthermore brings in another ex SAS operative and now MI6 agent Aiden Snow in a parallel assignment that finally converges into an action-packed climax. Sophie Racine is a French Intelligence officer employed by DGSE and tasked with assassinating Sasha Vasilev, a Russian informant and mole within the DGSE that led to the death of several French Intelligence officers across Europe. With intel that Sasha is holed up in a disputed Ukrainian city of Donetsk, she begins her journey to uncover the perpetrator. Not only has she a daunting task to avenge the death of her comrades in the French Intelligence, but also a personal vendetta against Sasha that had childhood traumatized. Parallel, Aiden Snow also lands in Ukraine under the cover of a school teacher with an assignment to exfiltrate an innocent medical student and UK citizen, Mohammad Iqbal, who was caught up in the Russian-Ukraine conflict and apprehended for being a spy. When Sophie and Aiden unearth that Sasha Vasilev is holding Iqbal as a captive, their mission converges but has two different purposes. Sophie has to eliminate Sasha and Aiden has to rescue Iqbal. From here on, begins their chase to track down Sasha, amidst the hostile political situation in Donetsk and warring Russian, Ukrainian, and rebel forces of Donetsk's people's republic. It's a race against time as Sasha and his chaperones give a slip to Sophie and Aiden each time, they are within arm's length to nab him. There is plenty of action in the plot with gunfights, explosions, and hand combats that makes this book a riveting spy thriller to read. While Aiden Snow as a protagonist is subdued in this book, it would be interesting to see if the team of Sophie-Aiden would be retained in the forthcoming series or eventually pave way for Sophie Racine to dominate. Both creations of the author are a class by themselves with their strengths and it would be a terrific read for thriller fans either in solo assignments or as a duo.

I received an ARC through NetGalley's program.

As the 1st book in the series, it is a definite winner. I have read other books from this author and they all keep your interest. In this one, Racine, a member of DGSE has been tasked with the assassination of a traitor that became a spy for Russia. The story provides a glimpse of Racine's life growing up and how she was selected to join DGSE.

Her assignment required her to go to Ukraine to perform the deed. She was to be on her own once she entered the country. DGSE would provide her with the necessary materials that she would need. Unknown, but at the same time, a member of MI6, Aiden Snow, was instructed to free an English medical student who the Russians had captured. The location that he was going to was the same one that Racine was also going to. At this location, things did not go according tp plan. Racine wound up being captured, but was able to escape and met up with Aiden who discovered that the individual that he was there for had been moved.

Eventually Racine and Aiden were able to free the English student. They were all forced to evade the forces looking for them. Racine left the other two so that she could complete her mission. After completion, she then had to find a way out of the area. All of the roads had set up checkpoints, and Racine had to fight to get out.

To discover what happened after the mission was completed, whether Aiden made it out with the student, and why this assignment was personal for Racine, then you must read this story.

Rating: 2.1/5

The blurb describes this as being perfect for fans of "Killing Eve". Given that the central character, Sophie Racine, is a highly-trained, multilingual spy / assassin that comparison with Luke Jennings's "Codename Villanelle" (on which the tv series "Killing Eve" was based) is understandable. However, even though "Codename Villanelle" was not as good as the subsequent television adaptation, the central character of Villanelle still had stronger, more rounded appeal than Alex Shaw's creation, Racine, conveys in "Traitors".

This is the first book to feature Sophie Racine. However, the debut lead protagonist is joined by ex-SAS Trooper, Aidan Snow, who has been the central character in a number of stories by this writer already. "Traitors" is certainly a pacy read and there is no shortage of action throughout, but much of it is also formulaic and clichéd, with the descriptive writing being more sensationalist rather than sensational.

Even though there is a basic plot underpinning the narrative, the storyline is very much action and event-driven. It is difficult not to get the impression that the plot is merely a necessary means of allowing the author to link together a series of graphically described action sequences. Developments linking the scenes often seem a little tenuous and there are a number of very convenient happenings that allow the good guys to emerge from seemingly inextricable circumstances.

Characterisation throughout the novel is largely superficial. As you might expect, a bit more effort is put into establishing a backstory for the main protagonist - usually via the medium of flashbacks - but, for the most part, even the more fleshed-out characters are quite two-dimensional.

An okay way to pass the time without having to exercise the grey matter too much, but ultimately not particularly satisfying.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for supplying an ARC in return for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this ARC.

I’ve really enjoyed the Jack Tate books by Alex Shaw and was pleased to read his latest book featuring a new character Sophie Racine. Wow, this was a cracker of a read, one I thoroughly enjoyed and it definitely hit the mark with me. Racine is sent to Ukraine to assassinate a Russian operative who betrayed her country. She crosses paths with a MI6 officer who is on a different mission and they combine forces and work together. I thought this book was a thrilling read, it is very fast paced and full of great action scenes. It moves from past to present so easily, it is brilliantly written and grabbed my attention right away and continued to hold it right to the end. I loved the plot twists in the story and the last quarter of the book was full of them, most I did not expect and some which literally took my breath away and really wowed me. The book raced to a very satisfying conclusion with a hint of more to come and I would definitely read another book featuring Racine as the main character. She is a very likeable, believable and determined character who I couldn’t help but root for. I think this is a fab start to a new series and eagerly await the next book from this author.

Traitors by Alex Shaw is the first book in a new thriller series, featuring Sophie Racine a
French Intelligence officer who is tasked with travelling into the heart of a warzone in Ukraine. Her mission is to assassinate a Russian spy who took the French secret service apart piece by piece and gave their secrets to the Kremlin.
Ex-SAS trooper and MI6 Officer Aidan Snow is also in Ukraine. Sent by British Intelligence, he must extract an innocent citizen caught up in the conflict in rebel-controlled Donetsk.
When their missions collide, Snow and Racine find themselves outgunned and outnumbered. Even if they make it out of the warzone alive, danger won’t be far behind…
An action spy thriller that starts as it plans to go on. A high action and high speed thriller that has enough tension to keep you turning the pages. This book grabbed my attention as soon as I started it. A story that is packed with espionage, action, lies, danger. All revolving around an assassin that can give as good as they get. Everything about this book really had me thinking just one more page.
A brilliant beginning to a new series, and one I plan to keep up with.
Thanks to HQ for my copy of the book and place on the tour.

This is one of those Thrillers where your imagination helps to turn the running storyline and dialogue into a film in the mind. I found it exciting but not all the way through; rather like Life I suppose. The star of the book and the new series is Sophie Racine who works for the French secret service. Her counterpart from the UK is Aidan Shaw. Although both are autonomous, they are mutually helpful and clever in tight situations. The book should appeal to both male and female readers as it is a mix of gender and ability with quite a lot of physical violence. My personal taste is not for this sort of book, but I have no doubt that it will appeal to many others. Recommended.

Don't quite understand the high rating for this! Is it because the 'hero' is a woman? A woman assasin, no less? The book seemed to me to be the standard issue sort of thriller, well-researched in its details, yes, but still rather formulaic and with the usual twists at the end. For me, the heroine was a big disappointment, totally un-French and far too prone to making errors to ever survive in such a profession. Missed opportunity with the Aidan Snow link-up, too - zero chemistry in the pairing. All in all, good for a long flight perhaps, but not a particularly noteworthy or satisfying addition to this overpopulated genre.

Sophie Racine is introduced to us as a highly skilled assassin working on behalf of French Intelligence. In traitors, she is tasked to eliminate an unusual mole in that he was of Russian descent but living in France where he was recruited into French Intelligence. Racine also has a personal reason to seek retribution. During her assignment, she meets up with Aidan Snow who is in Ukraine on another assignment. The plot develops throughout the book and whilst there is closure at the end, there is enough left hanging to keep Sophie Racine occupied over a few more novels. This is my first foray into the world's of Alex Shaw and it won't be my last.

Alex Shaw has the rare talent of being able to combine the tropes of a Len Deighton-style story with the high-octane, fast-paced demands of a present day action thriller.
Sophie Racine is a great character, well developed through a series of flashbacks. She's an assassin but can still command one's empathy and respect.
Donetsk, the disputed territory in Ukraine, is a great backdrop for a spy thriller sitting as it does right next to the great Russian Bear.
This is a great start to a new series: intelligent, original and engaging.

What a fantastic read. I absolutely loved this book. Action packed spy thriller of the utmost top quality. A female James Bond only better.
Loved how Sophie, the main character, teamed up with our favorite spy, Aiden at one point and I’m not giving anything away with this quote.
Aiden says “ If I was James Bond I’d have brought a picnic and a bottle of champagne “
Seriously though, this is one of the best spy thrillers I have ever read. I am so looking forward to seeing more of the exploits of Sophie Racine.
This should be at the top of your reading list.

Thank you to HQ Stories at Harper Collins for the ARC of yet another great book by Alex Shaw.

I confess from the outset that I am already a massive fan, and this new story did not disappoint!

The two new central characters were beautifully woven, and I particularly loved the glamorous, ruthless agent with a heart in Sophie Racine.

The plot buzzes along at a high-octane pace, with all the usual twists and turns of an Alex Shaw novel. It also, like all great thrillers, leaves you wanting more as the book ends.

I am hooked, and I can't wait for the next instalment!

I'll admit, I'm not the usual suspect for a spy novel like this one. The plot was somehow too convoluted and too simple. There were too many names and too many places to remember. But the fast paced nature was fun and the action scenes had what they were supposed to. The issue is that the characters had like 0 depth and their backstories felt so so flat. Also the dialogue was sometimes so bad. One time, someone calls the main character fearless and she replies "I'm not fearless, I'm female." Huh?

I always find spy books fun and interesting. I found the female main character a bit much sometimes, but overall I liked her. I wish there were some chapters in the POV of Snow, and I hope he is in future books. I think the two went well together and made the story better.I liked the flashbacks to Racine’s childhood, they added to her character development and the story as a whole. The middle was a bit dragged out, but I really liked the ending. I would rate the middle 3.5 and the ending 4.25. The ending definitely made me want to read the next books and see where the story goes.

This is my first Alex Shaw book and I absolutely loved it. Looking forward to reading some of his series, particularly Aidan Snow. Fast-paced with a plausible (yet extraordinary), richly detailed plot. Great action sequences, that read easily and I loved the main character, Racine. Looking forward to reading more about her. Back story was woven cleverly throughout the story and it left me ready and wanting more - bring on the next in the series!

The writing is OK, and there's a lot of action throughout, which is great, except when the main character has to make stupid mistakes in order to bring it on. The ending is also a little strange, as I don't know if it's supposed to be a cliffhanger or not. Normally, I don't like jumping around in time, but as an introduction in a first in a series, this isn't too bad.

I was sceptical at first as there were a lot of unanswered questions and what I had viewed as mistakes but it was very clever how everything was connected. It has everything needed for an excellent spy novel. It has the drama, the sleeper agents and of course the moles. I look forward to seeing where Sophie Racine ends up next on her quest for revenge.

Curate’s Egg

Liked the characters snd the plot in general but the writing is clunky. Over-written background explanations, irregular jumps into the past that add little or nothing to the storyline. Also it stretches credulity that the intrepid French assassin and British MI6 agent should be so literally bulletproof!
