When Detective Kate Rosetti is startled awake in the middle of the night by a phone call from her mother, she knows it’s not good news. It turns out Kate’s father, the notorious Angelo Rosetti, is missing. There are no witnesses and no leads, and with only a week to go before Christmas, Kate hopes to find her father before the New Year.
As Kate begins the hunt for Angelo Rosetti, she gets another case added to her plate at the precinct. A local man is gunned down in front of the neighborhood co-op. The fact that he was shot five times points to a story darker than that of a happily married suburban husband.
Kate dives headfirst into both cases, determined to wrap them up before the Christmas holiday. However, when too many coincidences began to reveal themselves, Kate’s worried the story is more twisted than she could ever imagine.
Originally from St. Paul, Minnesota, Gina LaManna has also called Italy and Los Angeles home. After studying numbers and equations in college, she realized multiple choice tests were “just not for her” and began writing books instead. She loves cappuccino foam and whipped cream and would subsist solely on sprinkles if possible. She currently lives in St. Paul with her wonderful husband and family.
Rozetti’s father is missing, and her family is depending on her to find him. This case is personal, and provides an extra incentive for paying attention to the investigation. I got a bit tired of Kate’s refusal to commit herself to people who love her, but it’s her personality and it’s been very consistent so I just have to keep my irritation in check.
6 books in and I feel so disappointed and deprecated that storyline. I was really looking forward to this story and while there was a happy ending for some the main character got robbed and abandoned again and it felt all kinds of wrong and cliche. Normally I love everything Gina LaManna writes but this story left me feeling horrible and like I’d wasted my time reading it and a book should t leave you feeling that way. I get it can turn around i future books but still the whole premise of the series being about Kate Rosetti feels false and like it’s been done before over and over it was nothing new just the same crap. I really don’t like writing negative reviews but this story just made me feel so bad.
This story is incredibly slow moving. Kate's trying to solve a driveby shooting and suddenly her dad is missing. The story gets bogged down with Kate's thought and suspicions about her dad. She thinks he's possibly involved in something unsavory despite her other family members, friends and fellow cops insisting he's a changed man since prison. After the stage is set the story meanders along as Kate ponders everyone's opinions on her dad. I was bored.
Kate's long distance relationship with Jack, or lack thereof this time, has him busy with his own FBI cases. Disappointing. And then there's the author's continued efforts to cast doubt on Gem/Mindy's relationship and upcoming nuptials. With everyone and their dog telling Kate that Gem wants her. Blah.
The action finally picks up near the end with some excitement as cases are solved and a few relationships sadly flounder and fall apart. Drat.
I missed book #5 somehow so I was a bit lost on a few details that referred to events in the previous book but it didn't deter my enjoyment of this one.
There was a lot going on in the story. I think it was a way for the writer to have her characters deal w/some of their outstanding personal issues such as romances & Kate's unresolved feelings about her father.
Gem & Mindy's wedding is upcoming. Kate's father is missing. Kate's new case is the murder of a mystery man. Is it all connected? The mystery was a good puzzle. It kept me on my toes. The action picks up about 1/3 of the way and it becomes page turning w/suspense. Some humor. The ending had a small cliffhanger and was bittersweet. I eagerly look forward to book #7 to see what happens next.
FYI: this is a series that should be read in order.
Thank you to the writer for a preview copy of the ARC in exchange of an honest review.
I love, love Kate. And Jack and Gem. But man was my mind blown, at the very last moment. So good I read when I was supposed to be working. OOPS. I cannot wait to see what happens next.
Emotions galore! Happy tears, sad tears, laugh out load, cry a bit more, hysterical laughter, and then a little bit of wonder of what is going to happen next! Kate Rosetti has a lot to deal with during the holiday season...murder, missing person, and engagements...so suspenseful as to how she is going to handle it all. Great series and this book is wonderful! So many ups and downs! I voluntarily received and read an ARC for an honest review.
Okay , I'm confused here about the change in relationships again! Kate how Russo over Gem then he gets engaged to another women, even though we all knew he was in love with Kate. Russo was a great man for Kate because they had hated interest and helped each other out. So what change could of cause this development since the last book. I always assumed Russo would transfer to Kate's State since he is always running to her when he feels she's I trouble. When is the next book due to come out because I need the silver now!
Christmas is coming. So is Gem's wedding. Jack Russo will be there soon much to Kate's delight. Chloe is going to DC to be with her FBI agent. Romance is in the air.
All thoughts of romance are shattered when Kate's mom calls her in the middle of the night telling her that Kate's father is missing. With only a week before Christmas, Kate promises her mom that she will find him and he WILL be home for Christmas. Of course she had no way of knowing less than twelve hours later a man would be gunned down by a spray of bullets in front of a nearby grocery store. Now she has two cases, one official and one personal.
Detective Kate Rosetti is intense, dedicated to her job, loyal to her family, and puts herself last. All this makes her a cop with the highest morals and highest success rate at work. She is an interesting main character that sometimes seems abrasive, but always one you want on your side. Many of her usual sidekick friends are barely mentioned in this book, however other connections are deepened as other characters have more intense rolls. As always the blend of work/family/friends changes throughout the book. Perhaps that is one reason this is such a likeable series. The author has created a believable world-not a fairytale of perfection. In any case, the series and especially this book, is terrific and riddled with surprises. As always, I found it nearly impossible to put this book down once it was started. I loved it Gina!
Another incredible book in the Kate Rosetti series that will blow you away! Kate has two cases to solve at the same time only one of them really hits close to home! When her mother calls late at night and tells Kate her father is missing, with lots of doubts in her mind, she promises her mother she will find her father before Christmas. But Christmas is around the corner and thinking that maybe her father is missing because of his nefarious previous life. Did he backslide or was he really kidnapped? And when she heads back into the precinct, she is handed a murder case, a seeming assassination she forges ahead on both. Could they even be related? Add to all this, and she is counseling her friend Gem before he marries all the while Gem still has a thing for her. Her long distance boyfriend FBI agent Jack Russo wants Kate to commit and move a step forward, and she is getting along well with the new officer in the precinct. Where will all this go? With all the emotions wrapped up in this book including a bit of humor, we are taken to a dynamite, surprise ending. I highly recommend this series and this book is amazing, having it all. I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Oh boy. There’s a wedding in only a few days - Christmas wedding - between Detective Kate Rosetti’s friend, Gem and fiancé Mindy. Mindy does not like Kate, but for some reason Kate finds herself in two separate heart-to-heart conversations with Mindy. One talk is something Kate tells Mindy before she has even told her best friends.
There’s also a possible kidnapping of Kate’s father, although she isn’t convinced that he didn’t just take off and go back to his “old ways” of crime; however, Kate’s mom and sister aren’t convinced. They both believe something bad has happened to him. Kate just can’t seem to let go and stop looking back at her father’s decades old mistake and when there’s a murder of one of Kate’s dad’s crime friends, she is nearly convinced her dad is somehow involved. It really is time for her to move forward with her dad and their future rather than always punishing him for his past.
I’m happy to say that this book and the relationships within are headed in a good direction even though there was more than a little bit of heartache included. I’m happy and hope one relationship in particular grows and love becomes involved. So I’ll end this review with a, “YAAASSS!!! FINALLY!”
Each book in this series just gets better... though I will say that this one is my favorite more due to the romantic aspect verses the mystery (though that is good as well.) There's a little more angst in this book because it involves Kate's father. All the regular characters make their appearances, some more than others. This case just may be the case that pushes Kate the most and also has more emotion involved and pulls at your heart strings a little. The writing is on par with big name thrillers, but has a cozy feel. It's easy to read, and well plotted. Great character development. Written from Kate's POV exclusively. It can be read as a stand alone, though you'll have a better sense of the personal backstories if you read them in order, as the characters relationships change throughout. The story takes place near the holidays, but this isn't really a holiday read, per se. This is a safe read for teens and up, though the initial crime/murder (while not played on the pages) is a little more... mob-like. Overall, a good entertaining read.
Detective Kate Rosetti gets a phone call from her mom in the middle of the night letting her know that her dad never came home. As Kate starts looking into her dad's last known whereabouts. she gets pulled onto another case - a man was gunned down in front of the neighborhood co-op. As she begins to investigate that, she realizes the two things are linked. Now she just needs to wrap up the case and find her dad and bring him home before Christmas. This was another fun book in the Detective Kate Rosetti Mystery Series. I have to say it was a little bittersweet, with the romance between Kate and Russo, and there wasn't as much romance in this book as the others. This one was non-stop action with a nice dose of Christmas spirit to top it off. If you are a fan of cozy mysteries, then you need to check out this series.
Couple of issues: 1) I don't think any humans have ever spoken to each other the way these characters speak to each other. 2) That's. Not. How. Police. Work. Happens. 3) This was in a group of books classified as "Holiday Mysteries." That plus the, you know, title and cover and whatnot really sets an expectation. But that is NOT met. This isn't a holiday book. You could completely cut all the Christmas references and lose nothing. It's even less of a Christmas book than Mean Girls is a Christmas movie. It's occasionally mentioned but it's not really part of the story. You could replace "Christmas" with "Memorial Day" and it would work just as well.
This is yet another fabulous instalment in the wonder Detective Rosetti series, with even more intrigue and angst than ever! With disappearances/kidnapping, shooting and bombings there is never a dull moment, and that is before you get stuck into all the relationship drama; trying to find forgiveness for her dad, time for her relationship with Russo and the added challenges of her friendship with Gem, it is just non stop!
A great read and I cannot wait for the next book. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
So, I picked this book because I love Gina LaManna. And after reading it, I love Gina LaManna. So, in this adventure, Kate’s case gets personal and close to home. She has a deadline to solve it otherwise she’s going to have to face her momma. So. The relationships. Wowzer… Russo is a hotty and a lot like Kate, but I’m not going to lie. I think I’ve been a closet Team Gem for awhile now, and I think it’s time to shout it from the rooftops. So, that ending…I’m ready for the next book please!
Kate Rosetti, Jack Russo, and Alastair Gem - a Love triangle that cannot be surpassed. Very similar to Stephanie Plum, Joe Morelli, and Ranger. However the tone of the books is different. While Stephanie is a little bit ditzy, Kate is all business. Not that there aren't lighter moments in the Kate Rosetti series, but they are much fewer and not laugh-out-loud funny. A good read.
While there’s plenty of action and mystery in this book, it seems that the characters have turned a bit more philosophical. And that’s not a bad thing because everything seems to get turned upside down. Kate’s dad is missing and she has a murder to solve. Could the two events be connected? And then there’s the ever present question of Kate’s love life. I know who I’m rooting for! This is another great read from Gina LaManna!
I was pretty sad that the relationship with Russo didn't work out but Mindy and Alister didn't get married. Maybe Alister will get his girl after all.
I mean they both love each other so why can't they work it out? Scarpetta and Benton did and they both have challenging work loads, one a FBI profiler and the other the Medical Examiner that was in high demand.
Now, I am looking for the next issue of Kate Rosetti.

Almost Christmas and Gem's wedding day is approaching. Kate looks forward to spending time with Jack, but when her mother calls her to report her father missing, Kate is on the job.
Another interesting story, but there is a sad turn of events near the end. I had wished for more romance for Kate, but I know I must wait for the next book!
One of the better books in the series for the by the book Detective Kate Rosetti. She searches for her missing father first as a favor to her Mom and then as a real case with a tentative connection to another one she is investigating.
The drama between the men in her life (Russo & Gem) continues and is a lot like Evanovich's Morelli and Ranger.
Wow! Another “couldn’t put it down” book! What a great series! I love everything about it: the Rosetti family and friends, the mysteries, the fast-paced stories and, especially, the main character of Kate! This book had lots of ups and downs. It was exciting, warm, happy, sad and “take me away” good. Can’t wait for the next one.
What can I say, another great addition to this series. This time things are more personal as Kate's father disappeared.
This series is a bit above the typical cozy mystery as the main character is more realistic being a copy. Definitely a great series to look into if you haven't already. Best to read the books in order so the back stories make sense.
Every year, I have to read at least one Christmasy book. This was one that I at least didn't regret spending the time finishing. Fluff fiction is fun at the right time. Also, I have to say that I appreciate how women are represented as real people and not 2 dimensional love interests or "best friends."
Another great Rosetti book that you can't put down!
Angelo Rosetti goes missing, Gem is getting married and Rosetti and Jack are at a crossroads, at Christmas...what more could could be crammed into one book? It holds your interest from beginning to end, and then some. Who stays together for Christmas? Can her dad be found? Love, love these book..
Merry Christmas meets the mob?! What a wild ride this story was, which ebbed and flowed. We have Detective Rosetti on the case to find her missing father and a killer before Christmas Day but what happened to him led us on a wild chase. I thought that Rosetti was a strong female law enforcement character amidst some really tough guy characters.
Wow talk about taking the wildest type of roller coaster ride in this story. A murder, kidnapping, engagement ups and downs, unexpected friendships, relationship troubles, wild bachelorette party and devastating break-ups. Non-stop action to a completely unexpected ending - a wild ride indeed and well worth taking, you just can't miss reading this book!
Enjoyed. Liked the bachelor party. Kate only sees in right and wrong. She has so many issues because her dad made a mistake and went to jail. She was 5, she had a decent childhood, and shouldn't be so damaged. Happy Mindy realized, Gem wasn't the one. Glad Russo split, Kate needs to mature and seek counseling.

Ahh. I enjoy the humor in this series. It reminds me a bit of the evanovich plum series. This particular book was tough for me. The love triangle/ quadrangle…the super damaged and flawed female lead…would love a book series with a not so wrecked lead and fewer romantic disasters. I’m powering on to the next book but this one was extra sad and messy imo.

Kate is woken in the night by a call from her mother. Her father hasn’t returned home. She’s worried something has happened to him. Kate is a detective and even though she is estranged with her father she can’t help but get involved and try to find him, for her mother’s sake. Her investigation seems to be connecting to another case involving a man in witness protection and the mafia.

I absolutely love this series and the characters! This new installment does not disappoint. The only bad thing is waiting on the next installment and wondering what happens next!
