Forty-one, widowed, and an empty nester. That was Ally’s life before the accident.
In those brief moments on the other side she saw vast blue waters, endless coastline, and the familiar sound of her best friends laugh. Spurred on by these images, she contacts an estranged friend about her family home in Maine which needs to be sold.
Arriving on the island to find the house in much worse shape than she ever imagined, Ally becomes the talk of the village – and the object of a handsome local man’s affection.
Trying to juggle the house renovations, her old friend, and dating – it’s a whole new world.
Between impulsive romances, rekindled relationships and a family past she never knew about, Ally finds out that her life is only just beginning.
This kindle e-book novella is from my Kindle Unlimited account book 1 of 6
Ally is recovering from being hit by a car. Her and friend go to a Maine island and move into a grandmother home. They are working to repair it for sale maybe. Then they find photos and now are leaving for Italy. Continued in book two.
I am a fan of Sage Parker and would recommend the series and author to readers of relationships mystery novels. 2024
I wanted to like this book. I loved the setting (though it could've used some more description).
The story started off fantastic but it had no end. It kind of meandered off into a new story set in a new place with no resolution to the first story. We are left with an unresolved love triangle and no decision made by the heroine on the main issue in the book.
Also, there were some grammatical errors that pulled me out of the story (like changing tense mid sentence).
I was really hoping to love this book, and for the most part, I really started to get into it. Then it all kind of changed suddenly and fell apart. Ally has been a young widow for many years, and her daughter is pretty much grown and on her own. Ally inherits a large home on an island that belonged to her grandmother and decides she needs to check it out...maybe sell it. She contacts an old school girlfriend that she hasn't seen in 20 years with the intent to take her and let her sell that place. The story develops from there as they arrive in this small island town. Ally meets Michael, a rather rich fellow, who takes her out a couple of times but then falls off the face of the earth in the story! Jason is a jack of all trades that does repairs and really likes Ally. Just when you think they are going to become a couple, Ally explodes and suddenly she and her friend Wanda are off to explore another country. It really didn't seem developed enough, just in my opinion. There were so many areas that could have been developed into a really good story. I am guessing that the next book will be a follow up. I do not like books that leave you hanging with question marks in the air just so you have to buy the next book! This book needs a re-work to really make it enjoyable and believable.
I liked the story. The characters were well defined and the story line kept me reading. I did enjoy the chemistry between Ally and Jason from the beginning. Having a clean story was nice for a change. I'm not sure where the Christian aspect of the story came from as it's in a Christian category. I didn't like the sudden decisions to just up and go somewhere for an extended period of time. First of all, it takes passports. For someone who had never been out of the country, it seemed unrealistic to just go without planning. The time away was too far fetched. I understand she had a savings but taking on a renovation of a 'mansion' would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Maybe it's the writer in me that's being picky. Over all, I'd read more.

In the writing courses I've taken, a novel was always defined as a story having an opening situation, a cast of characters, a plot and a climax, which leads to the end of the story. This is too short to be a novel, so I'm calling it a novella, but even then it has no real plot and certainly no climax or ending. Not only does it lack those features, but the main character, who usually one wishes to like, is cranky and whiney. I couldn't figure out why the two main male characters took a shine to her rather than her friend.
The one redeeming feature is the setting. I thought it made a great place to set a novel but suddenly, with no real purpose, they are all taking off for Italy and that will be in another non novel.
I wish I could say I liked this. but I'm afraid I didn't.
What a wonderful start to a new series! I loved everything about this installment; the town, the characters and the emotions. I can't wait for the next part to be published.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It grabbed me from the beginning. The characters are interesting and relatable. Miss Parker shows how childhood friendships can be revived as adults. Lots of laughter.
I enjoyed this book. It's witty and entertaining. Two friends from childhood reunite and take a trip to check out property one of them inherited. Now onto book #2.
This is book one and I really like the characters. It's going to be interesting to see what relationships develop and the adventures the ladies discover as old friends. It sounds like they may have travel and romance in the future. Can't wait for the next book!
Ally and her high school friend go to her grandparents' house to fix it up and sell it. She is starting to find a home instead. While not exactly a cliffhanger, the ending doesn't resolve anything. This is Episode 1.
This book was well written and just plain fun to read. The storyline was great and the characters became real in a very short time. Definitely a good read!!
A coastline Retreat made me laugh and I enjoyed it. I can't wait to see what adventures Alley and Wanda go on next. Sage Parker wrote a cute little book.
A story of memories, reconnecting with life and good friends and restoring an old house that also can restore ones soul. Enjoyed the story and the characters.
