Alice Thorpe. Hunter. Stellacote is Alice’s city and she will do anything to keep it safe. When she herself is attacked she’s furious to learn that her attacker has already harmed innocent people. The vampire who attacked her is not only dangerous but it is making many others in the city, especially those closest to her, fearful of their own shadows. Alice will find this vampire and bring him down. She’ll take whatever help she can take but the Alpha doesn’t seem to want her to go after it.
Ryan Lune. Alpha. Detective for Stellacote’s police force and keeping the Supernatural quiet is a difficult job. It’s made even more difficult when a vampire shows up and starts attacking innocent humans. He could have kept the Hunter out of this. That is until she was attacked. He knows she’ll do anything to protect the city but he can’t bring himself to allow her to waltz right into the danger.
I don't think book is bad - but it is just missing some key factors for me.
The story is in dual POV first person between Alice and Ryan. Alice is a Hunter which is supposed to hunt supernaturals (werewolves and vampires), and Ryan is a detective, along with being the alpha werewolf in his area. In this new world, Hunters and supernaturals work together, and when murders start popping up, Ryan and Alice team together to figure out what is happening.
I liked the premise, and thought it had potential. I am not going to be harsh on the world building, because it is a short book, I do not expect much. There was plenty of world building enough to get the grasp.
The romance is implied but there is really no chemistry. The characters kiss, and that is the extent. I wish more was built up between them, but it just felt superficial.
*spoiler ahead*
Was the book entertaining? Sure. Is it worth recommending? I would skip this one.
