Three Hearts Collection #3

The Cautious Omega

Rate this book
Scott Lawson, recently discharged from the military, wants nothing more than to get to know his eleven year old son, Matty. Something he’s never really had a chance to do. But to do that, he needs a job, a house—a life. Something else he’s never really had a chance at.

He absolutely does not need another fling that lands him in more trouble. Not that Matty was trouble… but his papa certainly had been before he’d left the picture.

And yet… he’s undeniably drawn toward not one, but two men.

He can’t deny that his British landlord, Julian Banks, is the kind of alpha he’d love to dominate in bed. And Julian’s strange hippy friend Kai, with his uninhibited invitations and kisses makes everything seem so… easy. Though Scott does occasionally wonder if that’s because Kai might be sneaking something extra into his “special” brownies.

A no-strings attached agreement between the three seems ideal since none of them have any interest in settling down into a traditional alpha/omega relationship. Kai’s only commitment is to absolute freedom, Scott’s focus is on Matty, and Julian’s always put the idea of settling down into the far-off future.

But… what if the answer to all their desires isn’t one man… but two? What if their union is exactly what they need to heal their souls and build a family together… not just for them, but Matty, too?

This is the third book in the Three Hearts trilogy. Get ready for a quirky British mum, sweet, fluffy love between three guys who don’t know what they’re doing, and enough naughty, knotty heat to steam your kindle.

I'm a total fan of M/PREG Paranormal Romances, first and foremost as a reader. I'm excited to share my own omegaverse(s) with you. What's not to love about adorable Omegas and the Alpha men who love them? If I'm not writing about men sporting baby bumps, I'm definitely reading about them!

I'm a native of Las Vegas, NV, so I'm pre-wired to love everything weird ~ although I don't find any kind of love to be weird. I'm a cis woman who's been happily married to the same lovable lug for 18 years. We have a 16yr old son, well, at least I think we do? Either that, or we have a ghost that eats all our food and uses up all wifi playing xbox while screaming into a headset.

As a new author, it's been amazing to find the amount of support that I've been given from readers and my fellow authors. Feel free to message me, I love to chat with fellow readers. Am I a reader? Heck yeah! In fact, I'm never certain that I can completely trust an author who isn't a fellow bibliophile.

I will try to update here when I'm doing promotional parties & chats. I usually do those on Facebook. If you haven't already signed up for my newsletter, you should totally do it! I only send out NL's to announce new releases or important announcements. I also like to note in my NL what I'm currently reading along with a cover shot and the link for anyone who is interested.

I look forward to interacting with everyone here!

2.5 ⭐️’ѕ : ᑕᑌTᗴ ՏTOᖇY ᗷᑌT TOO ᗰᗩᑎY ᗴᖇᖇOᖇՏ

I’ve eagerly awaited this book for a few years now and the story was as sweet as expected. However … I was very disappointed with the consistency and grammatical errors; there were just 𝘚𝘖 𝘔𝘈𝘕𝘠 of them!!

I really enjoyed how Kai’s character and lifestyle were represented so thoroughly. Absolutely perfect. Scott and Julian however, seemed to be underdeveloped side characters for Kai.

Not for the first time in an S. Hawke novel, I almost completely 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 the children {especially Matty, the son}. I have 7 siblings, grew up close with literally dozens of cousins, and have over a dozen niblings. I have NEVER {on such a regular “this is completely normal” basis} encountered children with attitudes like these!!

Terrific mmm triad story

I really enjoyed this book. Writing a book where there are three people in a relationship must take as much adjustment and compromise as being IN a relationship with three people. These two authors have done a great job with the juggling of things that this book entailed. Especially since the characters are so very different from each other. I particularly enjoyed the way the Omega character Kai was written as his hippie type could easily have become a farce but instead was just a beautiful soul. I also like that there are so many side characters that are written with just as much care as the main characters. This adds up to very realistic seeming world building and a lovely read. Great book.

Kai has been a delight from the first book. Yeah, he's a little out there. OK, a lot out there, but he's sweet, loving, and free. He has such a great viewpoint on life. I think that he's perfect for Scott and Julian, who both need a hefty dose of Kai and his joy.

Could've been better

I didn't like the Kai character. He was all about being open and going with the flow except when it came to his relationship with his men. He met Jillian mom but never thought to explain his hang-ups about relationships. After that argument who goes and has set like that? Yeah no one. I would've been livid. After that I couldn't keep my reading. I skimmed though the rest so I had an ending but that just put me off. He was so closed off from the relationship and never explained anything about why he was feeling that way to the other men. That's not ok. I did like Kai in the other books

Okay…now for the ditzy doula’s story we’ve all been waiting for.

Kai is the crazy hippy doula that assisted with both Josiah and Ethan’s births. He and Julian (Ryan’s British soccer mate/best friend/business partner) have developed a friend’s with benefits thing since meeting each other. That friendship is about to grow when Scott (Ethan’s best friend Lady Di’s brother) enters the picture when he exits the service to take custody of his 10 year-old son Matty from his grandparents. Although that does go a smoothly as planned and Kai, along with Julian, help him try to pick up the pieces of his life so he can finally get his son. But can Kai finally let down his guard and let these two adoring alpha’s into his life?

Who wouldn’t fall for Scott? All he is trying to do is be the father to Matty he needs to be. It wasn’t the simple or easy choice to leave the military life he had chosen but it was the right choice if he wasn’t to be in his son’s life. And I get where Harold and Maude were coming from. Their son Al, Matty’s birth dad, wasn’t a gleaming example of parenthood. Heck, Scott didn’t even know about his son until he was two years old and Al died of a drug overdose. So them being cautious and protective of their only grandchild that they raised was understandable. But Scott is a good and honorable man. He just needs to prove it to Matty’s grandparents by showing that he is what he says he is.

Julian had seemed in the previous book to be a bit of a playboy so I was surprised by his desire and willingness to move forward into an established throuple/triad. But he proved my earlier suspicions wrong and I couldn’t have been more delighted. And let’s face it…his mom Winnie, along with her friendship with Kai (who would have ever guessed that friendship???), was the icing on the cake for this book. Their tea party was freaking hilarious!

And Kai! I will admit that I had a bit of trepidation moving on to this book. Let’s face it…I’m probably as reluctant as Richard when it came to Kai. I mean he seemed pretty out there and batshit crazy with all his new age beliefs, mambo jumbo and actions. But deep down I found that he was just truly damaged and scared boy fearful of commitment and relationships. And understandably so, with his parents many, many failed examples. But, with Scott and Julian’s constant love and support, he learned he could let loose of his tight reins on his heart a little. And Matty helped a lot with this transition also. He was as much a special part of each of his “uncle’s” hearts as he was in his dad’s.

From what I have seen this might be the last book in a trilogy. I will say I’m still a bit sad and disappointed we never got closure on whether Larry’s friend Daniel and Ethan’s ex’s young omega Devon got their HEA. I would highly recommend that you read all three books and in the proper order. They help set you up for the next book and many of the character’s have several cameo appearances in the books.

Independent reviewer for Gay Romance Reviews, I was gifted my copy of this book.

This is book 3 in the Three Hearts Collection, and while not strictly necessary, I personally think you should read book one, The Surrogate Omega, and book two, The Divorced Omega before this one. You will get the full force of Kai that way!

Kai is an omega, who works as a doula. He is at one with nature and all that entails. He is free with his love and his body. His current source of enjoyment is Julian, an alpha. When Julian lets an apartment to Scott, also an alpha, Kai is immediately smitten, and is immediately taken with the THREE of them. It takes a little time to get Scott up to speed, but Julian is all in. A no strings (or labels) agreement ensues, but very quickly all three men realise that might not always be the case. Kai just has to get over his commitment phobia; Scott has his son to get to know and Julian thought he would never settle down.

I read all three of these books back to back (and bad me! I didn't write reviews for the other two!) but I thoroughly enjoyed them all!

Kai is a unique character, and I thought him a bit flighty in the other books, but here? I loved him here, and yes, he is a bit too much at times, but he is a deep soul, an old soul and he wants everyone to be happy, almost to the point of him not being.

Scott has left the military to raise his son. Matty is 11, and hasn't had much to do with Scott since he has been away. After a rocky start, things improve no end.

Julian has the apartment complex and thats about it. He does, by all accounts from previous books, hop from bed to bed. Having Kai in his bed, and JUST Kai, for an extended period was something that evolved. Adding Scott to that bed? Icing on the cake.

What I especially loved about this book was the lack of angst. Kai is hesitant to label what they have, but he doesn't let it bother him. Julian is so laid back about pretty much everything and Scott really only has Matty to cause him stress. All three men just go with the flow, and it's great reading, watching their relationship develop slowly, but naturally, you know?

Steamy? Oh yeah but triads (their term, the guys choose it!) tend to be. Given as we have 2 alphas here, as well, makes for lots of knotty fun!

That is was KAI that said those three little words first was a surprise!

A thoroughly enjoyable, low angst, but lots of fun, read.

4 solid stars.

Pas ma came.!

I am pretty picky about the ABO books I read. Usually the Omega is written like a helpless housewife from 1920, but Kai was definitely not helpless, and I loved that Julien and Scott were open to being with each other as well. There wasn’t any “Alphas can’t be together” prejudice.

I absolutely adored Kai and his open approach to life. He struck me as a hippie from the 1960s in the best possible way. His long monologues about random life events and whatever happen to be on his mind were hysterical. He was definitely a strong and well developed character.

Scott was a great balance for Julien and Kai, but I felt like he was a little bit under developed. He was a retired soldier but there wasn’t much mention of anything that may have happened during his time in the military. I’m not saying every soldier comes back with PTSD but it just seemed like his history was glossed over a little bit. I liked seeing him reconnect with his son and the way that that was written added just enough conflict to move the story along but wasn’t over the top.

Scott was a proper Brit, although he disliked tea which was a funny little piece of information. It was great to see his relationship with his mother and the expectation she had for him. I’m not sure the reasons why Kai and Scott weren’t a couple already were completely flushed out, but Kai being A free spirit and Scott not wanting to be tied down were true to their character arc. Seemed like they needed Scott to complete them.

Overall it was a great book and I would recommend it for sure.

MC development: 8/10 (well developed and left me wanting more)
Heat: 7/10 (just right, well balanced to add to the story and relationship without being smut)
Humor: 6/10 (I was definitely chuckling at Kai’s monologues and Julian and Scott’s reaction to them)
Length: 10/10 (just right, hit all the important points nothing left hanging)
Standalone: 8/10 (I think the story would be “more” enjoyable if you had read the first two books. But I have not read them and the story made sense and I didn’t feel like I was missing too much)
Meet cute: 9/10 (Scott’s meeting Kai and Julien the night he returns from deployment and is looking for a house is great )
Overall: 8/10 (would recommend)

This book was so sweet. I don't usually read mmm (this series is one of the few exceptions... I will read pretty much anything this author writes) but Kai caught my eye in previous books and I wanted to see how his story went. I was not disappointed. This is book three but each one can be read as a standalone. Kai, Julian, and Scott were off the charts hot together!! And adding Scott's son Matty into the equation added the drama and cuteness that this story needed. I also liked that Kai was independent and although he was an omega he didn't necessarily need an alpha to survive. Kai is a doula who we saw in the previous books helping with the last two omegas books. He is independent but he started a “relationship” with Julian when he first met more friends with benefits. When they meet Scott they start a sexual relationship with him. And so the triad is created. Scott and Julian although they are alphas but not traditional alphas they enjoy each other which is not usual with alphas I liked that. The support that they show Kai is great. Matty just brings it all together. I definitely recommend this book.

I really enjoyed this book. This is the first book I read from this series but I am a big fan of Susi Hawke so it was well worth it to check out. This book had the feels and heart I look for in a romance. Plenty of steam and so many happy moments. There was angst and challenge but not too much. The laughs in the book made it that much better. I smiled and laughed so much. This book is so worth the time to read. I loved the journey, Scott finding a way with his son made me so happy. I also loved Kai's hippie style. He honestly brought so much joy. Even when people didn't understand him and his being in on a whole other plane he was a delight. I really loved this book and it makes you so happy. Perfectly balanced and another must read. After starting at book 3 which works it can be a stand alone, I do look forward to going back and checking out the other two of this series. I received an arc in exchange for my honest review.

A Hippie, a soldier, and an proper Brit...a fated triad?

What was the cosmos thinking! These three men are So destined to be together. Scott, an Alpha ex- soldier trying to reconnect with his 10 year old son; Julian, Alpha "football" playing teacher; & Kai, a groovy, free, if cautious Omega, who won't be labeled. Oh yeah, the cosmos is shouting , aligning their spirits. I was swept up in their lives. The attention to detail made the story so real. And the three- way sexy times are off the charts hot. Ooh, ooh, and some very special tea, and a British Mum that's not so proper after all! This is a joyous, sweet, no angst, romp. I didn't want the story to end. There is redemption, forgiveness, trust, dancing, and love. Everything happens as the universe intends. Don't forget beading and braiding. You are gonna love this book!
This book contains adult themes and language, mmm sex and is intended for mature readers only.

What a great read!

I was looking forward to this book, but with a bit of trepidation. Kai has been the character that was easy to like but I couldn’t really understand him. I’m really glad I didn’t let that sway me from reading this because he has become one of my favorite characters. I should have known better than to question Hawke and Crown!!

Kai, Scott and Julian have to really work hard to get their HEA and, honestly, they deserve every good thing they can grab. I really enjoyed watching all of them work together to help Scott learn to be a real Dad to Matty, and to become a family. With three very different personalities coming together, the fun abounds as well as the snark but the love is what matters most.

This was a great read and a wonderful addition to the series! I love seeing well written MMM and even more in an omegaverse. Definitely worth a read!

As a lover of all romance - I love the world that Susi Hawke and Crista Crown create in their Three Hearts series. Scott, Kai, and Julian’s story is refreshing, and full of unique twists. With a focus on Scott, who is a single alpha father trying to do his best for his son, and thought the story shows a touching development between the two. Julian who is the British alpha landlord for Scott, and Kai who is an omega doula and a free spirit who already has a thing with Julian just adds to the craziness that Scott doesn’t expect. With all three of these men catching feelings for each other, this new relationship with them changes a lot of their plans, but they work to fight for their relationship and build a family together.

Scott is so steadfast and loyal yet surprisingly open to new experiences.
Julian is easy going and fun loving yet surprisingly ready to devote everything to these 2 men.
Kai I couldn’t begin to describe him if I tried but as much as I didn’t expect to like him because I didn’t think I could relate to him the complexity that is Kai makes him so much easier to connect with!
I really didn’t expect to love this book as much as I did the others in this series. To be honest Kai drove me nuts in the first 2 books. After reading this fantastic installment I am heading back for a re-read with a new perspective on Kai! Once again Susi Hawke and Crista Crown take 3 characters that don’t seem to make sense together and create a perfect combination.

Just like every other Susi Hawke book, this one is special too. I have never really been around someone who was so in tune with themselves, their surroundings and life in general, such as Kai. How different he was in the beginning and I wasn't sure if I could imagine someone really being like that. But Susi Hawke made him come alive and I fell in love with him. Julian and Scott are such wonderful alphas and I loved Matty too. This story flowed so nicely. I really enjoyed it! I don't often read stories more than once, but I can see myself reading this one again and again. I could feel the good vibes all throughout the story. Enjoy!

Kai is definitely a free spirit and a very interesting character. Some might think him flighty but I think part of it is all for show because people expect it of him because of his “hippy ways.” Scott is trying to be a dad when he hasn’t been allowed to be so far in his son’s life. Julian is just trying to figure out what he wants without being tied down. These three need each other to balance themselves out to be complete. This is a good book and the characters are colorful. Scott has a great support system from Julian and Kai and their friends as well as his sister. It was a bit of a crazy ride watching these guys form their unique family but those families are always the best!

I love MMM stories, particularly where each of the MCs has a definite and unique story. To be satisfactory, it must be a true threesome where each member is vital for the other two to feel complete, rather than a couple plus an add-on. The three MCs here each had a strong personality and story that really drew me in. I loved the colorful and carefree Kai (in fact, it was his image on the cover that drew me to this book.) I loved the way the relationships between the three developed and how they 'completed' each other. I have not read the first two books, but I feel this one is completely satisfactory as a stand-alone.

Sacred Triad

I so love the triads in this series. If I had to pick one favorite character, I'd pick Kai. I am also into crystals, but not as deep into the new-age lifestyle as him. But he comes alive as a precious and wise soul. I could easily see falling in love with him. Julian is full of cheek and a horndog, but also responsible and romantic. I could see myself fancying him. And Scott: the big, strong warrior with such sweetness and heart, he's the mind of guy I've always fantasized being with.
This is a beautiful story. What else could one expect from Susi and Crista?

Truly enjoyed!

I truly enjoyed Kai as a central character with his beliefs in auras, crystal, chakras and communing with nature. Kai remains true to himself and his beliefs in the previous books as well as this one. I love that he found life partners in Julian and Scott who respected him and his beliefs. Despite Kai’s modern hippie ways it is acknowledged that he is a good doula and a kind human being! I also love that they actively build a family along with Scott’s son Matty and the yet to be born Sparkles! Together they bond and forge a future build on love and happiness! This was an awesome read and I’m truly sorry this trilogy came to an end! It was truly enjoyed!

For so, SO long, I've been awaiting Kai's time to shine & he didn't let me down - thank you authors. So worth the wait! I must say, this is exactly how I pictured Kai in my head from book one. I think my fav part about this triad's story is how steady & supportive - trying not to give spoilers, but quiet support & strength is sexy - basically I liked how the authors let the relationship/s develop organically. The humor & "out-there"ness and love & swoony moments, steam, all there. Julian & his mum are a hoot. This is so enjoyable, fun, entertaining, take your pick, just read it.

This was my introduction to this series, I adored Kai, I fully understood his hesitance in joining a commited relationship when his own parents hopped in and out of them repeatedly. Yet they thought he was flighty and unable to be a parent.
We didnt get as much about Scotts parents other than they passed, but his sister was a character on her own.
Julian was interesting with the odd english phrase thrown in now and again, his mother seemed almost a more developed character for me.

Definately need the other books in the series

Kai is the ultimate love child straight out of the 1960s. He is sweet, giving and free with his love. I liked him immensely. Julian is so nurturing. He wants to take care of everyone's needs, offering help and support. Scott is the protector with so much love to give if he'd only be given a chance. He desperately wants to reclaim his role as a dad to his son Matty. The three of them together have to overcome their own ideas of what love should look like in order to find the HEA. There are plenty of laughs and heartwarming moments to make me smile.

At first I was worried that Kai was going to get annoying with his "new age" ideals. However, I found that he was the most amazing "lynch pin" for the relationship that is building between he and Scott and Julian. Bringing Scott's young son into the mix is a wonderful addition, where Scott needs the conduit Kai becomes. There is a scene with Julian's mother that is so hilarious, I loved it!!! This story is so much more than I expected it to be and I highly recommend it! “I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.”

There have been a string of great m/m/m stories lately and this is one of the best. I loved free spirited Kai from the instant he appeared on the page, as a doula no less, and so wanted him to find someone who would love him without wanted to change him of curb that free spirit. Who would have thought ex-military Scott and Julian would be the pair to do that. The love these three have for each other shines through and the family they build with each other and Matty will have you smiling from ear to ear. A super feel good read.

Sweet and filled with love

This last book in the Three hearts series is delightful to read. Two alphas and an Omega who fit together like pieces of a puzzle in this very sweet easy to read book. I liked how though all their personalities are so different they complement each other, showing how with open hearts, minds and good communication that even the most cautious of them could find what they needed. A lovely no angst read, well worth it.

I have been anxiously awaiting this final book in the Three Hearts Collection and it was absolutely worth the wait. From the previous books we had an idea of who Kia is, but there is so much more than the flaky doula everyone sees. Kia, Julian and Scott are so well suited for each other and bring something to the table that the others are missing. It was a beautiful journey for them and I so enjoyed reading their story.

Loved

Oh my goodness....i loved this book. I feel like I've been waiting ages. And it did not disappoint. Scott, Julian and Kai were perfect for each other and i loved how both alphas took the time to understand and effort that went into getting to know and accepting him for him. I loved that Kai always seemed to have a beautiful venir if the world and and even more beautiful bond with little Matty. Truly "The Cautious Omega" was a beautiful read.
I highly recommend it :).

What a great read! Kai is such a character. He and Julian are best friends with benefits. His free spirit makes him seem flaky, but he nothing if not sweet and kind hearted. Scott comes to town bearing his own set of problems, fighting custody for his 10 yr old kid. When they all converge is fun ride but also a bit emotional and groovy lol They form a strong relationship while healing, and with the company of friends and quirky family.

Each man brings exactly what's needed to the family. Kai, Scott and Julian each bring a solid pilar to the triad. It was nice reading that Kai is a lot more than he seems. His background provides a lot of answers. Each man had some hand held baggage to work through and they made a good effort to be true. Scott's effort toward Matty is laudable. Family and friends are great and totally funny. Good story, enjoyable! Well done. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

A unique person still deserves love

This is an omegaverse romance with non-shifter mpreg; it is the third in a series that should be read in order. In the first two books, everyone treated Kai like he was an odd-duck, not in a mean way per se but I think it’s beautiful that in this omegaverse, each triad finds their HEA with people that really match their souls, respectful to who they are as a person! What a great story!
