It’s early summer in Weatherford, Texas, and retired teacher/amateur sleuth Phyllis Newsom and fellow retiree Carolyn Wilbarger are taking British cooking classes at the local senior center in this suspenseful Fresh-Baked mystery.
In the latest from Livia J. Washburn, the nationally bestselling author of the Fresh Baked Mystery Series, Phyllis Newsom learns to make a trifle that’s to die for…
While Sam Fletcher is playing dominoes with the guys, Eve Turner is busy flirting with the English chef since she has a fascination for English accents and handsome men who can cook. This puts her in competition with a couple of other ladies from the senior center, who also have their caps set for Chef Alfred Dorrington.
The third and final class features desserts, and more than the stove heats up when the trifle is poisoned! Once again Phyllis finds herself involved in a murder case filled with hidden motives and colorful characters.

Wow, I loved this book so much. Phyllis and Sam are such a great couple, and there knack for solving crimes is amazing. I was right about the suspect in the murder investigation, and the ending was absolutely perfect. I can't wait for the next book!
I was so excited to see there was a new book in this series, so of course I bought a copy, and I am so glad I did. I love Phyllis and Sam. This story was very well written, and I had to keep reading it until the end. The twists and turns were amazing, and there were so many aspects that I never saw coming. Livia J. Washburn is a wonderful author. I highly recommend this book and this series, and I hope there hope there are more books to come!
This was a fun read to the evolving story of Phyllis and Sam and the house she shares with two other retired teachers and Sam's granddaughter. I suspect the author is trying to end the storyline, but I hope I am wrong. These books are breezy, enjoyable reads for me when I am taking a break at work or before bed.
I adored this latest installment involving a group of retired teachers who live together. The characters, even the newer ones who were introduced a few books ago, feel like family. The mystery is always engaging and has a satisfying end.
I have read all the books in this series now and this book wrapped it up nicely. I was a fun time spending it with Phyllis, Sam. Carolyn, and Eve. I will never forget them. I really enjoyed reading one of these books and knowing that there were more to follow.
Phyllis and Sam were quite the detectives. They solved the murder and found the murderer and saved Alfred from going to prison. That is a very busy senior community center.
This is another series I've liked since the very first book, and I've enjoyed visiting with the MCs with each book. They have good relationships with one another, and their strengths and weaknesses work well together.
The murder victim in this book was someone not from the town where the books are set, so the pool of potential suspects was limited. I had my suspicions about one character in particular, and I was right, but I would never have guessed the motive.
If this series continues, I will read more, but events in the story wrapped up rather nicely, and it appears that the series has ended.
