With evil rising, every secret can change the course of history.
The curse is broken. The Fae are free. And so is Gandrett—at least to walk away from the palace at Lei’Vreah, from the King of Fae who she supposedly is in love with, from the prince who almost died in her arms.
Her friends are out there, needing her help. Mckenzie who is struggling at the Phornian court, and Addie, for who any help might come too late. And her brother—

I can’t believe these books aren’t more popular then they are! I have devoured these books faster than any other books I’ve ever read! I absolutely love the writing and story line. I’m gonna be sad when I have to wait for book 6 in May cause I’m probably gonna quickly go through book 5 next.

I’ll try to go as spoiler free as possible. I went back to my review for Shadow Rule and was thrilled all of my theories were addressed. My only half-hearted complaint of the last book was that it wasn’t action packed but more character driven. That was not a problem at all with this book.

Gordan is such a strong addition to the narrative. His love and loyalty to Nehelon and later, Gandrett were unshakable and I just love him.

Thoughts as I went:
-You made me wait until Chapter 7 for some full on Fae male brooding but balanced it out with push-ups. I’ll allow it.
-Find you a partner who looks at you like Raynar looks at Addie after her, umm, makeover.
-Gordan should be getting hazard pay for all this wing-manning he’s doing for Nehelon.
-Mckenzie is on the longest first date ever.
-The angst between Nehelon and Gandrett. *chef’s kiss*

But really. The ending. I’ve never been so satisfied by drama and mad I don’t already have the next book in my hands.

I received an ARC of this book which does not affect my review. I am very grateful and eagerly waiting for the next book.

5 million ⭐️

When I say I couldn’t put this book down, I’m dead serious. I had to force myself to sleep and stuff but even when I was sleeping, I dreamt about this book.
This was perfection! The story is finally picking up. The story is a slow burn but finally, people know what they’re feeling. That’s enough for me now.
The ending killed me. It’s only 10 pm so I’m definitely starting the next book, I can’t wait. I really hope my sister will be able to read this one day. If the series keeps this up, it’s going to be one of my all time favorite fantasy books for sure.

After finishing the last book and being really excited for what was to come, I just felt… underwhelmed with this.

I normally finish books within 24hrs but found that I was able to put this book down quite easily, as there wasn’t a lot I was dying to find out about.

Some things did happen so this book wasn’t a complete bust, but I feel that there’s another twist that’s been coming for a couple of books now which I’m getting bored of the build-up without a reveal (which I don’t think we should be waiting until book 5 for).

As a recap of all the different storyline’s (without giving anything away): I’m still loving the McKenzie/Taghi plot and always found myself excited for those chapters; I’m a bit bored of Armand’s chapters now and almost got immediately bored when I realised a chapter was going to focus on him; the Addie plot got interesting but then just a bit bleh; I love Gordon but the banter could be improved; and Nehelon I’m getting a bit sick of because he’s been kept at such an arms distance with so much toing and froing that it’s hard to really bond with him.

I also feel that Gandrett’s supposed skills as Vala’s blade and warrior mindset have been getting worse as the series goes on with her company as a crutch which makes me less invested in her.

As I read this and realised that we were still going to be in for more books, I started comparing it to the experience of reading TOG. I literally could not put those books down and was reading into the early hours of the morning, always promising “just one more chapter” but then unable to step away because of the pace and interest that was built into every storyline (for me at least). I don’t feel the same connection to these characters, I skimmed a lot of paragraphs and I pushed through mostly just to get to the end of the book.

I don’t particularly like Nehelon as the love interest (personally I was team Armand) and really struggle to connect with him on that level so that could also have something to do with the disinterest that grew throughout this book.

I was bored by the end, found it a bit unbelievable and was hoping for something completely different with the cliffhanger (potentially some kind of reveal apart from crumbs alluding to things that have been alluded to since early on). I don’t know how many books are left but I don’t know if I have more than 1 more book in me, unless the next book actually manages to hold me throughout.

It is really fascinating that the writer has improved his writing style, story, character so much. I absolutely loved her work here, in this book.

So much has moved forward in this book. The prose and the plot flow smoothly in this installment to keep you turning the pages late into the night. The dragon King is back, Gandrette is on a mission, and the supporting characters/storylines are preparing for war.

I loved getting to know the character of Gordon better in this book. Definitely recommend!

◦ I've received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ◦

The book picks right where the last ones have ended. We’re being shown the struggled Armand is going through to contain the blue fire that has engulfed a part of his castle that even now cannot be contained no matter what decisions and ways he tries to find. And on top of that, his father is for sure not a reliable human being so he is all alone in this fight.

The magic system in the book I can’t compare with anything I’ve read so far since I’ve not read any of the popular books but for me the way that there is so much mystery involving Gandrett and how she, as a human got magical powers, is really interesting and captivating.

The character development has been amazing from the very first book. We see Gandrett growing up and becoming the powerful woman she was supposed to be. We have McKenzie who as spoiled as she showed up through the very first books she is now growing and becoming the lady to lead armies. Armand and Brax who had no care in the world before everything went to hell we see them now taking the lead and become the strong and powerful men they need to be – which is so amazing because both of them lived their lives without a care in the world and now they’re facing so many hardships.

As usual, Angelina has given us a roller coaster of emotions and made me go from anger to happiness to tears in a matter of minutes. The more pages I was reading, the more my emotions would go crazy and made me obsessed so much that at one point I legit dreamed what I was reading, that’s how obsessed sometimes I can get with a book. I really love good enemies to lovers and this book even from the beginning has delivered it. You do not get that full-blown romance in every single book, you get adventure, action, funny and light moments, and also heartbreaking moments that really make you feel your character's feelings. Besides the enemies to lovers trope, you also get the one bed and one room trope which slowly becomes my new favorite because I really love how most of the girls get all flustered but they’re also feeling so tempting to their partner.

However, this time the book has surprised me to the fullest. I’ve waited 4 books to finally get that closure between Gandrett and Nehelon and when that happened – angels were singing!! I loved their internal struggle and how everyone knew what they’re feeling but not them – that was very frustrating because it was so obvious minus for them.

The book doesn’t contain smutty or very detailed events, however, it does contain some triggers such as abuse, worshipers going on their killing spree, and the loss of a family member. Most of these scenes aren’t very detailed or very described but they’re enough to possibly trigger some people. For me what was a trigger was the encounter between Gandrett and the Meister, I don’t usually get very quick triggered but their encounter was horrible and it really made me feel uncomfortable and I really wanted to skip past that because I had a lot of negative thoughts toward the Meister and I hope he really has a horrible ending because he so deserves it.

Gordan has to be my new favorite character, his charisma is such a breath of fresh air in the book and it will make you giggle so many times. I loved the way she was disturbing Gandrett and Nehelon so many times and the way Nehelon reacted to such moments was really, really funny.

The book for me is a 5 star rating because I loved everything – minus the Meister but that’s not enough reason for me to take away from the stars. If you love good enemies to lovers, one room/bed trope, Fae’s, an amazing magical system that is still very mysterious to a lot of people, and a badass heroine with amazing character development then this one is for you.

Ugh, the FEELS!!!!! This series just keeps getting better and better. Lost Towers is the 4th installment in the Shattered Kingdom Series by Angelina Steffort. Steffort is one of my all-time favorite authors and she never fails to amaze me. Wow, this story is phenomenal. Gandrett and Nehelon... What can I say about these two? LOVE them!! These characters are some of my all-time favorite characters from Steffort. You literally can't help but be emotionally invested in these two. What a story. Definitely recommend this one!

OMG! I can't even with Angelina Steffort!

When Gandrett and Nehelon finally accept their lot in life BAM, the unthinkable happens!

I love these characters so much. Everything everyone goes through separately brings them closer.

Not one character is stagnant, each and every one goes through changes that allow the characters to grow. Not one character is annoying. You know the kind where you just want to skip their chapters. Nope. I just have to know what happens to them all!

I love the writing style, switching back and forth between the characters used to annoy me, but with this series it helps to see what they are experiencing at the same time. Ugh, I can't get enough of this series.

I highly recommend this book series to everyone! I can't believe it isn't a huge series (like Maas or Armintrout)! It totally deserves to be. The world building is fantastic, characters are intriguing, and the plot is fabulous.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ rating for me. I can't wait for book 5!

Thank you to the author for a free advanced copy for an honest review.

Frustrated. That’s how I feel at the completion of book four of this series. Steffort takes “slow burning romance “ and denial to a whole new, and irritating level. Four books in and very little has occurred between the two main characters: Nehelon and Gandrett. After four books they FINALLLY admit to loving each other. After four books of complete denial, brooding and romantic tension that’s so obvious it almost makes these two characters seem unintelligent; they finally admit to their love and then one is taken from the other. There’s not even a chapter where they get to be with each other and be in love. The denial is taken too far for too long and it becomes less exciting and more exasperating with each book. After four books they’ve barely touched other or kissed each other which is so disappointing. Steffort is a brilliant writer, the story is exciting and the descriptions and world building are excellent. But the pace of the romance is my biggest complaint. I don’t think she could recognize when to let things finally happen between them, and when she finally did she didn’t give the readers any satisfaction or even a moment to enjoy it before it all got torn apart. Extremely anti-climatic. Yes there is more adventure and yes they will probably end up together in the end, but there was too much restraint in this story. I’m not sure I want to finish the series at this point, if I’m going to be dragged along at a painfully slow pace, hoping for just a glimpse of N and G getting together. I really hope Steffort learns to give the readers a little more and pace things better in her other series?

Oh and I almost forgot! How idiotic was it for all three of them to waltz into Liris den with a message from Pete Nemey (whom Gandrett doesn’t trust at all,) and deliver it to the evil queen and then expect to walk out with no issues? That was so disappointing and it was a major flaw in the plot that they were so foolish. They didn’t ask for help from anyone- the Fae? No one? No back up plan and no back up whatsoever? These characters are trained warriors, who have proven to be very intelligent, so this was not believable. So disappointing.

Absolutely loved the book!!

I love the characters and how they have been developed. I love that we get a point of view from each character. It allows us to get a whole view of the book world. From the first book to this one the authors are very consistent in their beliefs and who they are.

ALSO THE ROMANCE!! I LOVE how the author plays it out. No spoilers but this was a GREAT series to get me out of my book slump.

This is the slow, filler book you expect somewhere in the middle of a series. It’s not that plenty of things don’t happen, it’s just that they’re not as intense and exciting as with previous books.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ are by far not enough, there are not enough ⭐ in the Milky Way to rate this series

"Lost Towers" is the fourth installment in the “Shattered Kingdom” epic high fantasy series by Angelina J. Steffort, an original tale that follows Gandrett Brayton (a former acolyte in the Order of Vala, attuned to deprivation and training from a very young age, to reach maturity as a fighting warrior. Gandrett’s first assignment came in the form of Nehelon, the chancellor of the house of Breheran, who secured Gandrett’s help into freeing Joshua Breheran, the heir to the House, from his kidnappers. That initial assignment evolved into a quest to fight the new awakened Dragon King. To be able to battle the Dragon King and put an end to his reign of horror once and forever, Gandrett & Nehelon will need allies. after their visit to Ulfray, the Fae realm, to break a centuries old curse, the quest now leads to the Lost Towers, and believe this is a trip you will never forget! Every step of the way is a neverending pool of awe, joy, entertainment, and wonder: yes, it makes you wonder, more than once, and feel with each and any character along the way. The story gives you everything you want and ever more than you would ever expect and lets you begging for more… because – and this is the only downside of this series – there is never enough 😉

All our favorite characters are back: Gandrett the most fabulous female hero, both strong and vulnerable, with a solid moral compass and a mind of her own; Nehelon the perfect counterpart for the quest, an old soul who has retained his own vulnerability, a Fae through and through, and yet the most human of them all, as much as he tries to hide it; Brax and McKenzie, fighting against this new awaken evil, regardless of the dire situation. Armand, trying to hold his ground and sanity against all odds. Joshua and Addie, united by dark fate and a destiny none of them wished or could ever imagine. In Steffort’s tale each and every character is multidimensional and have his role to play in the wide canopy of events. The so called ‘secondary characters’, such as Gorman, Taghi, Drew, even the Meister are as fully fleshed as our heroes, they are ‘real’ and relatable for good or bad (some of them an make your blood boil, just because that is exactly what they are supposed to do). It is in fact, the fine humour and perfect chemistry between the characters what really makes this series exceptional.

It goes without saying but I will nevertheless 😊: Angelina J. Steffort writing style is superb, fluid, enthralling and captivating, masterfully tying character development with action and rich descriptions of Neredyn into a captivating story, populated by original, multidimensional and fully fleshed-out characters, and weaving a luring plot that evolves nicely page by page, revealing unforeseen twists and ramifications, keeping the book always interesting and a real page-turner, and while the action maintains the reader on the edge of the seat until the very last page, and beyond.

Honestly this book series isn’t good anymore
The series started off really well in book 1. MC had ok perspectives and the book was written relatively well, got slightly addicted to how the books were going so far. There was good plot and the author seemed to know where she was going.
After books 2 & 3 there was a major decline. The book is extremely stretched out, the fact that this makes into such a big series is crazy. There’s way too much drama and POV switches just for every character to complain about what’s going on.
In book 4 I’m DNF because I just cannot stand it. Every character is complaining about how everything is going wrong, it’s kinda like a vent fest.
The pace of the series is just super slow, over time the writing has declined, I cannot understand the stupidity of some of the characters.
Not sure if this was in the last book or this book ( slow series had to take breaks in between books to find something better for a while), but Gandrett kisses Nehelon blah blah and all the fae wake up, Cool. But then she cannot figure out that he is the true king.

Why did Gordon (best character btw) have to point that out????

There’s just not enough to keep me interested.

This book…. Oh my gosh. I have no words. It completely destroyed me. Even though everyone isn’t in the same kingdom anymore, they are all dealing with so much. Gandrett… she is so amazingly strong. I admire her so much. Nehelon faces an internal struggle throughout this book, and I felt so bad for him. Mckenzie made some progress, and I think she’s on the path to acceptance. Life is bleak for Brax right now, but I’m really hoping life will get better for him soon. And I hope the same for Armand. As for Addie… I know I’ve said it already, but I have no words for Addie’s situation. I admire Steffort’s writing style so much because she has this ability to completely draw me in and make me forget that the “real world” exists. She is incredibly talented, and I highly recommend her as an author. This book is going to make you laugh, cry, scream… it is flipping fantastic. Go read this right now!!!!

This is absolutely a 5⭐️ series and you should read it.

That said, I’ll admit that this book wasn’t my favorite of the series, but I still really enjoyed it. I think some of that could be because it’s been awhile since I read the others so I had to mentally catch up. But also, it’s one of those in between books in a series. Where a lot happens but it’s sort of just filling in information.

I love Gordan, as I knew I would coming into this book. Two thumbs up to you sir.

Nehelon and Gandrett, always a fan. Although I hate when books end the way this one did—leaves you wanting more that’s for sure!

The Maroul remind me of like an evil version of the giant rats from the Princess Bride?

Addie!
Armand!
McKenzie!
Brax!
Josh? You still there?
Taghi!

Okay. Turns out now that I’m writing this, a lot happened in the book and it was pretty great. Although I’m still not clear on my rating? A gentle 4.

This story just gets better and better and this fourth book, well there’s so much going on as go from person to person as each journey continues. Gandrett has awakened and saved the fae but her adventure has only just begun as she is about to find out. Brax is more alone then ever and Mackenzie doesn’t see what is right in front of her and don’t get me started on poor poor Addie. The dragon king continues to maker her life hell and has transformed her and taken over one of the kingdoms. Gandrett and Gordon make fantastic travelling companions as they journey on to deliver a letter and Nehelon joins them which makes it very interesting indeed. It’s an exciting and captivating story that at times had me on the edge of my seat and other times shouting in disbelief and then I got to the end and well I simply must read the next book immediately I have to know what’s going to happen next.

Can this series get any more exciting??? What an incredible journey! I love how Angelina spins her tales, how she manages to build up the tension, how she manages to capture emotions in such a captivating way, that has one reeling! Poor Gandrett, every time she thinks she is over being manipulated, someone shatters that illusion. With the threat of the Dragon king, the race to form alliances to defeat him is on everyone's agenda but it seems each has his own agenda as well! I adore how the bond between Gandrett and Gordon progresses, love that, finally, Gandrett and Nehelon get to acknowledge what the truth is. As for Addie, oh my word! At the mercy of the Dragon king, her strength comes through, even though she's basically powerless, there's still lots of resistance. I can't wait to find out if she succeeds. And Mackenzie is an absolute delight,I know there's much more from her to come. In fact, all the characters are awesome! I'm beyond excited to read the next book!

So this is the fourth book in the Shattered Kingdom so I’m going to keep this spoiler free for the first three book in the series.

I really loved this book, I will say it feels more like a filler book but it’s still super enjoyable and pushed the plot even more.
I do think this is my least favourite in the series so far. Even in saying that this book is a 5 Star read because of everything I loved (which was so much of the book)

Everything I want to say is spoilers but there are a few things that shocked me and one theory that I had at the end of book three that came true (and Im super happy it came true) and caused a relationship that I was rooting for to spark a bit more than it was in books 1-3. The ending broke me. Im talking I read the entire last chapter while sobbing and am scared of how the next book will go.

I do wish a few of the side characters had a bit more page time but what we were given I absolutely loved.

The villain is getting bigger and badder and I’m so curious on how it will be defeated. Can it be November so I can read Secret Court lol.

You know when you're reading a multi-pov book and you have maybe one fav ship so only 1-2 fav pov's so after your favourite character chapter ends it's

and then you finish that chapter and then flip over again and it's

and then finally you think you've suffered enough and its the most annoying character's pov

Anyways Gandrett and Nehelon <3

I will be honest. Who cares about Armand and Addie? I didn’t. Oh she was a dragon, poor her. Also the „dragon maiden“ nickname was rubbing me the wrong way. The rest of the book, apart from their chapters, was very entertaining and that ending made me scream into the pillow.

The best book in the series so far and comparable to Sarah J. Maas with some unexpected twists. Just know that it ends with less conflicts resolved than it started with. I'm dying to read the next book!

YOU HAD TO DO THAT TO ME?!

I feel like I’ve been waiting ages for this book and then there was so much resolution in so many story lines that was seriously SO satisfying, but then it’s gotta punch my heart with that ending and cliffhanger?

Here are my thoughts:
1. Gordan is the ultimate best friend to both Gandrett and Nehelon. I love him. I need him to plz be happy.
2. The Meister needs a freaking punch to the face. If he doesn’t get shredded then his ending will be too kind
3. The Dragon King’s perversion and leering at Addie makes me hella uncomfortable. Also, if she doesn’t get the best, most happy, and wholesome character arc, I may have to write a thesis on how she was failed as a character. She’s been through straight HELL.
4. This series has been a *chef’s kiss* example of a slow-burn, angsty romance and I am HERE FOR IT.

Okay, gonna go cry about how sad I am it’s over and how sad I am I have to wait for the next book..

Lost Towers by Angelina J. Steffort is the fourth book in the amazing Shattered Kingdom series. If you've made it this far, you KNOW how amazing the author's writing is and how engaging her storylines are. This book is no different, and as readers, we get to see EVEN MORE character growth and development from the first 3 books! Seriously, I don't know how it's humanly possible to have more character growth, but Steffort managed that... The storyline is interesting and truly a page-turner. Personally, I would suggest buying all 4 currently published books, so you don't have to wait in between books to get to the next part!

I want to seriously thank the author for allowing me to be one of her ARC readers for an honest review. All of your books presented to me have been such a lovely journey and I honestly can't wait to read the next book! Thank you!

This series is just a beautiful breathtaking epic. While this book was a little slower paced to me than the rest of the series, it is a 5 star read.

I loved the relationship between Gordon and Gandrett and would like some more of their friendship. There's so much going on in these books but the points of view flow seemlessly from character to character each with a distinctive view point.

I very much look forward to more!!!

I received a copy of this book, all opinions and the decision to leave a review are my own.
