This story would be way better if the author has dropped Fritz's side of the story all together and just focused on Leo and his family because it's not until we get to Leo when he's older that you get all the Gothic elements one would expect.

Also, there's a murder is this story and the motive for the murder is never explained or found out. The first 20 pages of this story wants to be one thing and the rest changes entirely.

Completely abandons its own framing device at lightning speed in relation to its length. Spotted with antisemitism, and generally uninspired.

3.5 stars! Although it wasn't as good as the other books in the collection, I feel like I still enjoyed it. The contents were a bit predictable though.

Really enjoyed this short novel, theres a story change in the Middle, but I feel like that you'll still understand the story. Didnt see the endning coming. Worth a read.

An enjoyable, short read. Nice and grim, so decent enough to include in a gothic collection. I will admit that the two halves of the story are sort of dissonant, there were several different things trying to be done at once, but there were plenty parts I liked! Well written anyway, and it certainly did not bore me, I really liked the energy around the climax.
