Outing lesbians?

This is my first book by Jamey Moody and it's the first in the Lovers Landing series. This was a quick and easy read. And by quick, I mean it was insta-love. It took only a one week for the MCs to progress from mutual apprehension to love and the angst level was almost non-existent.

Krista is a 50 year old lesbian Hollywood actress who runs a secret resort for sapphic couples, and I was skeptical about the premise at first because the other MC is a journalist known for outing lesbians. So I was prepared to either be indignant about it or convinced that this journalist is worthy of love.

When Brooke discovers the existence of this resort, Krista tries to win Brooke over by appealing to her human side and inviting her over as a guest to the resort. Turns out, Brooke wasn't difficult to like at all. Moody gave her a story to tell and layers to peel back. Krista was patient and empathetic and a nice person through and through.

Moody made it easy, too easy perhaps. It's a heartwarming read and it's not bad. But for a premise as interesting as this, I just wish the story had been meatier and the love wasn't so insta.

Normally I love Jameys books but I didn‘t like the two MC as a couple. Especially Brooke was not my favorite person.

I have loved all of Jamey’s books so far and this book is no exception. I liked the change of characters with celebrities and the secret factor. Krista knows what it’s like to be on the verge of being outed. She has created a safe place for others to relax and be themselves and hold hands. You can tell Brooke must have gone through something in her life to write the articles she does. Krista sees her differently and wants to be friends and hopefully convince her not to write about Lovers Landing. I like all the hand holding and kissing and of course all the rest. Another wonderful love story by Jamey.

Another Winner from Jamey Moody!

Successful actress Krista is finally out of the closet and with her best friend Julia, decides to buy a resort that meant a lot to them. They are using it as a safe place for closeted, powerful or well-known lesbians can go to relax with their partners without having to worry they will be found out. Brooke is a journalist who discovers Lover’s Landing’s existence and purpose. When she informs Krista that she is going to expose the vacation spot, Krista invites her to spend a week there. Krista and Julia hope that she will see the magic and the need for privacy Lover’s Landing provides. The only problem is that Krista finds herself becoming overly attached to the straight Brook…This can’t end well. Or can it?

I love how Ms Moody tells a story. There is always lots of emotion and drama. This tale is warm and heartfelt, beautiful and endearing. It’s well written, flows well and is mistake free as far as I can tell. It’s a story that will bring a smile to your face when you remember it long after you finish the book. Ms Moody is one of those authors who you can count on to make you feel content and happy and this book only cements my belief in her. I loved this drama and I’m pretty sure you will too!!

This was my first book byMoody and I am not convinced by it.

A story about outing lesbians and a secret sapphic getaway place? It sounded like it could be fun and low angst. Low angst it is, it’s low on most things actually. For me the writing doesn’t flow, it’s very stilted, too much use for the characters’ names. I don’t know now, I had a hard time getting into and enjoying the read. The romance that blossoms between Brooke and Krista is sweet, but the I love yous come way too fast. I am all for women having fun but somehow I have a hard time believing women their age act the way these characters do, it’s a bit juvenile, something you might do in your twenties. I don’t know. I don’t want to de ageist but it’s just all a bit hard to believe.

This is the first book in a series and I am curious about the continuation of this series, but not sure about the writing style and if it suits me.

Wow

At first it did make sense, then it didn't, and finally it did. The character development was outstanding. And their chemistry was also good. That slap scene was PERFECTION. And the way Krissy loved Brooke, beautiful.

Now, that excerpt from the next book, way to destroy the happy ending of the first book. So I dunno if I like it or not.
And also intrigue someone into reading the next book.

Every time I get to read a new book by Jamey Moody I get so excited and I’m just happy to dive in. I always know that Jamey will bring me lots of joy and my heart will be filled with lots of love.

This book is a bit different than her others. It starts with Krista and Brooke as enemies. Krista as the one that wants to keep the secrets at her resort and Brooke the journalist that seems to love outing famous gay people.

What I actually didn’t expect was the way how Krista wants to prevent Brooke from writing an article about her resort. Brooke actually doesn’t know what hit her when Krista applies her charm. Soon both realise what they always missed in their life or didn’t have for a long time. Someone that always has your back no matter what and that sees deep inside you. All the things others might not see, but your person will see. That’s exactly what happened here. Even if there are little bumps on their path they make it work. And that’s exactly one of the things I love so much about Jamey’s book. How her characters deal with conflicts.

There is one little thing I missed a bit in this book. I missed reading parts from Brookes point of view. While we always got this in Jamey‘s other books, this was missing here. It didn’t make me love the story any less. Jamey was able to describe Brooke in the most perfect way. I just think her perspective would have made me love her even more.

And well for me Jamey is definitely one of the best in writing cheesy romances. I hope she never stops filling my heart with her stories. I fell in love once more and I‘m secretly hoping Lauren gets her own story soon. I definitely developed a soft spot for her.

I received an advance reader copy from the author and voluntarily leaving a review.

This could also have been named "The Seduction of Brooke Bell". I think the storyline is an absolutly brilliant idea!

Apart from that the at least six main characters, Krista, Julia, Heidi and their dauhters and finally Brooke are well defined and lovable, but the others also are great, even down to Lauren and Tara. The final twist is as brilliant as the rest of the storyline as well as unexpected and a great happy ending.

Jamey Moody always delivers spectacular romances and Where Secrets Are Safe is her best one yet. A heartwarming story of love and hope that is so tender and made me so happy.

Moody has a knack for interesting and lovable characters. This cast of women is absolutely delightful. Krista is so sweet and compassionate and has so much love to give. She creates a safe space for other women like herself and then comes up with the most amazing and hopeful plan to save it when the safety she is trying to create is threatened. Brooke is such an fascinating character. She has so much more depth than she lets people see and I loved getting fall in love with her right along side Krista.

There are so many strong and often conflicting emotions throughout this book. Joy, freedom, heartbreak, loss, trauma, regret, love, and happiness, all bundled together. This book felt like a healing experience and left me with a profound feeling of happiness and satisfaction.

The romance is super sweet and also incredibly steamy. Krista and Brooke have fantastic chemistry. They were so adorable and cute. I loved when they both were able to just forget everything, let go, and just enjoy themselves and each other. So much swooning.

This is book one in Moody’s new Lovers Landing series and I am so excited for the future installments!

If you enjoy sweet celebrity romances, big emotions, great characters, and steaminess then this story is a must read. I loved reading Where Secrets Are Safe and you will too.

Where Secrets Are Safe by Jamey Moody is my first read from this author so I wasn't quite sure what this book would be like. The novel starts with an intriguing premise but ultimately falls short in execution. Krista, a 50-year-old Hollywood actress, runs a secret resort for queer women, and Brooke, a journalist notorious for outing lesbians, stumbles upon it. What could have been a story full of tension and emotional depth instead turns into a rushed romance with little payoff.

I felt like the romance between Krista and Brooke was overly simplistic, with the characters declaring their love within a week. I'm not the biggest fan of instalove and this unfortunately occurred. I felt like the premise could've offered an exploration of trust, betrayal and redemption, but instead these themes were barely there. Instead, there was predictable tropes, stilted dialogue and instalove. Also, for a book centred on characters in their 50s, the dialogue and behaviour often felt overly juvenile.

Unfortunately for me, this one didn’t live up to its potential and I'm not sure if I'll continue with the series.

I found this book from reading the Meet Cute book which is an anthology of excerpts from sapphic romances. This is a low angst, instant love romance. Krista is a successful 50 year old Hollywood actress. She along with her life long friend purchase a cabin lake resort. They worked there in their college days and now Krista wants it as a place that her sapphic friends, in or out of the closet, can come and relax in privacy. Brooke is a reporter who has heard of the resort and wants to write about it. Krista decides to invite hoping she can change her expose type mindset. There is only a week of time so everything is going to have to move quickly. Sweet, although not always realistic.

I received an ARC of this book from the author ... thank you Jamey.

As with all of this authors books, there are great characters, great storyline and it is also great to read books with older characters around my age group.

I would say this was another winner and already looking forward to the next book.

I got this as an ARC for an honest review.

Who doesn't dream of being able to go somewhere where you can just be yourself with your partner? Hold their hand without people giving you that look. Now imagine being in Hollywood where people are up in your business. Given the opportunity to got back and buy a summer lakeside resort, Krista decides to open a secret resort for lesbians with her friend, Julia. (They are in their fifties which I love. These women are set in their careers and lived life a bit.)

I imagine this resort as being an awesome summer camp for grownups, away from the hustle and bustle of regular life. Jamey Moody creates a place where you long to visit. Outdoor activities are part of daily life along with the beauty of nature. This entire secret lesbian resort can be destroyed with the simple posting of an article but outing journalist Brooke. Brooke is surprised when Krista invites her to be her private guest at the resort.

Where Secrets Are Safe is a perfect story for the summer vacation. I love the way the characters develop and discover bits of themselves along the way. I really hope this can be part of a series. I like how there are brief comments regarding other characters in previous stories. Jamey Moody is my go to for fantastic age gap romances! I'm ready to make reservations for Lovers Landing.

Where Secrets Are Safe is the first in the Lovers Landing series. Krista Kyle, a Hollywood celebrity, purchases the resort which has personal meaning for her and is solely aimed at the discreet lesbian market, where women can act as themselves without the prying eyes of onlookers.

Julia, Krista’s BFF manages the resort whilst her wife Heidi deals with any legal work.

Queue Brooke, a journalist renowned for outing lesbians. She has booked herself on one of the resort vacations. There is more to Brooke than meets the eye!

As the story develops, you find out more about the characters whom I found engaging. The setting sounds idyllic with glorious adventures on the lake. It’s good to see characters around the 50 years mark.

Jamey Moody blessed me to receive an ARC copy. Krista and Brooke are still on my heart. Krista was a closeted actress. Brooke wrote articles outing people. When Krista and her child hood BF Julia purchase a camp on the lake they grew up on with the twist of purpose. They will build a resort for women who want to keep their love for women a secret. They upgrade the camp and have lots of guests. Then the infamous Brook who writes tell all's wants spend time there. Krista and Brooke have a great connection and a romance starts to heat up. Get your copy of this delicious book at Amozon see a beautiful romance. There will be some ups and downs but a great romance. The connection is pure and so strong but their story is good. Go to Amazon get this it has a lot of great characters and one great group!! I loved it so much I got a copy for my collections. Enjoy a great summer read.

Kudos for a romance with mature women and the start to a new series from the author. I read slowly savoring the clever storyline with leads Krista and Brooke. A well paced, slow burn romance with trust and belief in change paramount in the plot I was easily immersed in the cast of characters. Some intrigue, a smattering of bedroom heat, an interesting twist and beautiful descriptions of the lake/cottage area made this an ultra pleasurable read. I easily pictured such a cozy retreat and the book cover was spot on.
Ms. Moody's books are firmly on my re-read shelf. I eagerly anticipate the next book in the series and highly recommend this one.

I rec'd an ARC from the author, however this review is unbiased and totally voluntary.

Jamey Moody knows how to make hearts swell and faces break out in smiles with her romances. This fun and charming book left me feeling so upbeat. Krista and Julia, best friends forever, embarked on creating a Texas lake hideaway where Hollywood lesbians could come for a week of relaxing time in privacy, away from the prying eyes of vicious journalists such as Brook Bell. A potential wrench is thrown into things when Brook wants to visit and write a piece on the new venture. However, Krista has plans to show Brooke such a good time and change her mind and rethink her typical, destructive ways. Sparks fly, steamy encounters, potential love flirting among the group. Do any of cupid’s arrows hit the right targets? The week was love, fun times and a happy memories.

Another lovely book from Ms Moody. This is a story of finding out who you are.
Krista is an out and proud lesbian, but she has been in the closet in the past and knows how that can affect a relationship. So she decides to set up a lakeside retreat for closeted lesbian couples.
Brooke, a journalist who has outed lesbians in the press is invited by Krista ti the retreat with interesting consequences.
This is well written, with a good easy to follow plot and no aghast. A really enjoyable read, would recommend.

I was provided with an ARC copy of this book, in return for providing an honest review.

From the beginning, this story incorporated Krista and Julia’s friendship from young adults into present day. It was seamlessly done and not a long drawn out process so you never felt bored, at a loss, or confused. I felt I was in complete understanding of the relationship of the two women both from the past into present time, where a new chapter of their life begins.

With that being said, the story line and the characters fit so well together. The story centered around a time in Hollywood that actresses, writers, directors, etc., would have lost their careers if they were to come out as gay. Krista came up with an idea, plans were developed and a place where these women could be themselves, out of the prying eyes of the public, was born.

The story was very well written and I especially enjoyed that there were no explicit sex scenes to get through. It was fun, relaxation and new beginnings.

Yes, I’m being vague because I don’t want to give any spoilers away.
You will immensely enjoy this story as you read how these women overcame the stigma and created a safe space for themselves where they didn’t have to hide their feelings and could be WLW without prying eyes and looking over their shoulder.

Kudos to Jamey Moody for the great job she did writing this book!

Very satisfying ending!

Krista is a Hollywood actress who was closeted most of her life, but after twenty years she's finally living her authentic self. Along with her best friend, Julia, she creates a lake resort where others can feel safe and live openly, if only for a short time. Brooke, on the other hand, is a sleazy journalist who has been reaping the benefits outing the elite of Hollywood. The story really begins when Krista invites Brooke to be her guest for a week.

What transpires is a beautiful journey for both of them with Julia always a support for Krista. No one ever knew the really fragile life Brooke led until she felt safe enough to open up to Krista which then opens up a whole new world possibilities.

Jamey is a wonderful writer whose characters are all very well developed, likeable and redeemable. The dialogue is terrific and I loved that this story was a mature look at women in their fifties. She also painted colorful pictures of the idyllic setting of the camp and surroundings. I could really picture myself there, getting lost in this book in such a comforting way. I highly recommend this and really look forward to the next book in the series!

So...this concept had potential. But I feel like it was sloppily done. It was predictable and messy (I wonder again if this one of those self-published, no-editor ones). The breaks in between scenes and chapters seemed kind of arbitrary, not like they led into the next part as they should. Krista annoyed me; she was presumptuous, especially when it came to Brooke and her past, and it was not only a lot to assume, but she was somehow spot on. Which really just reads like the author giving everything away. Also, a lot of POV confusion. The story seems to be told from Krista's POV, but then you have scenes like the cliff diving, where there is this five second clip from the two women watching from the boat. WTF?? Very confusing, and it wasn't just the once. I shouldn't be reading from Krista's view of the world, but getting thoughts and feelings of others that they didn't voice aloud. And if the author wants to include those, then they should be separated somehow, so I am not confused when from one line to the next, I'm getting thoughts from two different people.

Hate to say it, but DNF'd.

This was interesting, had a gripping premise of will the bad lady ruin everything or not - and i was turning pages to see where it was going for a while. So, I am writing this review after the second book and i may be impacting my feelings on this book. Both i would put under 4 stars but i have rounded up. I also had to question, is a place like this really necessary anymore? Plus living in Texas, i leave to find a resort - lol, why would someone build one here?

When Krista, an out Hollywood actress, and her best friend decide to buy the Texas lake resort where they worked as teens, they name it Lovers Landing and create a secret spot for Hollywood lesbian couples, many of whom are closeted. All is going well until they find out that Brooke, a journalist known for outing women, wants to come to the resort. Krista decides she will befriend Brooke to convince her not to write about Lovers Landing or out any of its guests. As their friendship grows, neither expects it to take a romantic turn.

My lower rating here is all about the writing. It felt flat, including much of the dialogue. It was also repetitive with the two MCs repeatedly saying the same things to one another. Conflicts and tensions were quickly resolved. It was hard to get too invested in this book.

Another great book by Jamey Moody. I would love to have a quite place like the one on this story to go to. They Characters in this book were all like able and made you wish you were hanging with them for a week at the lake. Not a lot of drama In this book either, which I really liked. One reason that I loved this book was because I grew up in Texas not far from a Lake Possum Kingdom. Was a great place to hang out with friends and had the cliffs at Hells Gate that they actually have diving competitions at now. Lots of deer also all over the place.
So I really enjoyed the story for itself, but as you can it took me down memory lane also.
Now going to be looking for a Lake House to rent around September when it cools off 😀

This was a very good story and demonstrated the way true love can truly bring healing and safety. As a stand-alone story it is really good, and left me feeling happy. And then, I began to read the little teaser for the second book in the series (always found at the very end of Kindle versions). Instantly, the joy and satisfaction from this book were washed away. I love this author, but am astonished that the heart of all the amazing challenges Krista and Brooke walked through would simply be erased at the start of Book 2--especially when the author ends Book 1 with 'they lived HEA". If you really want to savor the HEA, then skip the sequel ad.

My 5 stars is for Book 1, and if I could I would give a 1 to Book 2, but will not be reading it.

I dnfed at 72% but one star doesn't feel right for it.

Review breakdown:

Writing: I have a feeling my problem with the writing was more of a problem with the audiobook narrator. could use some editing and tightening up, though. pov was confusing at times.

Characters: eh. I wouldn't be in the friend group, and the LI has a very questionable backstory. difficult to root for them.

Plot: a hollywood star buys a lake resort to start a queer hideaway and invites a papz with a niche for outing people. let's be real, there's no plot in this. nothing happens. no drama. no tension. no confusion. not even miscommunication.

What would make this an extra star read for me: I couldn't get behind the explanation of the papz behavior.

Vibes: boring

This is a story about Krista and her new lesbian secret lake resort.
Where everyone can live their holiday without others prosecuting them.
Krista hasn’t found her love of her life, she wants to give the opportunity to others to love their holiday.

Brooke is a journalist whom outs lesbians in her stories. Because of this she has a bad reputation.
Brooke wants to visit Krista’s holiday resort, she’s allowed to visit as Krista’s guest.
This story has made me cry, Jamey touched my heart with this one.
It has so many colorful characters, I hope that Jamey will make this in a new series.

Please read the book, Y’ll gonna need a box full of Kleenex!

possible paradise?

There are so many reasons I loved this book! Is love at first sight a real thing???? Everyone know the joke about lesbians & U-Hauls…
I definitely believe in love at first sight. I met my wife online. We met, in person, on our first date and it never ended. Our conversations leading up to our first date were incredible and once we met in person, the sparks were real. You know when you know. I especially love the idea of this place ‘where secrets are safe’. We don’t have a lot of money but I’d do anything to whisk my beautiful bride off to a place just like Lovers Landing. Well done! Definitely recommend!!!
