***Note: This edition is a re-release with additional content.***

“Give it to me harder.” “Ohhhhh, yes, Baby!” “I’m about to come…”

No, these aren’t the lines from a porno script. These are the loud moans that are currently coming through my neighbor’s wall. (I’ve even heard her say “Oh Daddyyyy!” a time or two, but no judgement.)

Since moving to New York and taking a job at a new firm, I haven’t had a good night’s sleep thanks to my neighbor’s “sexcapades.”

What the hell is she doing over there?

If that wasn’t bad enough, the woman I’ve always wanted in college also works at this firm, but she makes my days difficult since she still considers me to be an “enemy” and refuses to talk to me.

It’s not until I confront my neighbor about her moans that I realize that they’re the same person.

And she’s been keeping a dirty, audiobook narrator secret…

My Enemy Next Door is a super fun, contemporary novella about two former college “enemies.”

It is best read and experienced over a cup of coffee.

This was a cute read and I enjoyed it, but I felt kind of detached from the characters and the story, honestly. Something was missing, but I can’t really put my finger on what. It just felt rushed and incomplete somehow.

Still...even though it didn’t blow me away, a decent enough second chance romance in general. Just not my favorite from this author.

*****THREE STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

MY ENEMY NEXT DOOR is a ”second chance/enemies-to-lovers romance. Jace Kennedy and Courtney Ryan were once high school sweethearts whose romance began when they were both sentenced to detention. Due to unknown circumstances, the two broke up soon after Jace went off to college but ten years later they wind up working for one of New York’s most prestigious law firms.

Their reunion is not a joyous one. It appears that both Jace and Courtney have different views of what went down between them years ago and neither has been able to move on from the hurt. While Jace is overtly flirtatious with Courtney, she is not having any of it. Court proceeds to play one dirty trick after another on Jace which only riles him up and spurs him on to one-up her with the mean practical jokes.

Interspersed throughout the story are chapters that take us back to the past. We witness how the two meet, become friends, and inevitably fall in love. Then we learn how it all fell apart. I normally love everything that Whitney G writes but this one fell short for me. It was an “ok” read but was missing the WOW factor that I have come to expect from this author and this is perfectly fine because I understand that it’s impossible for an author to deliver a five star read every time.

Here are my overall ratings on the book:

Heroes: 3
Heroine: 3
Plot: 3
Angst: 2
Steam: 4
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 3

2.5 Stars.

This story had so much potential. The characters are cute. The dialogue was pretty good. The plot was interesting. However, even with all that, it was too short. It needed more detail, and the ending was abrupt. I get wanting to put out a fast hitting, sexy read. I love those kinds of books. And I know that Whitney G. can write those reads with depth, this just didn’t have it. That said, it’s cute. It’s fine for an afternoon read. But it could have been great if it just had MORE to it.

Well, I surely had a surprise when Whitney announced a new book coming so soon. And now I see she has decided to enter the world of collabs, I could not be more excited about it! I have to confess I haven’t read anything by Nicole London but I really enjoyed my introduction to her. What better way than with a sexy enemies-to-lovers short story featuring lawyers as main characters? Heck yeah, you know how much I love Whitney’s lawyers (one in particular named Andrew..) and now I have another one to love!

So, My Enemy Next Door is a novella written by Whitney G. and Nicole London and it is a second chance enemies-to-lovers narrative. What do I mean by that? Well, the couple in this book had a past together, an adorable and loving past together. But it did not end well. Of course, now, years later, they reunite, they are forced to work together, and they supposedly hate each other because of what happened when they last saw each other. But memories and high chemistry are in the way and what happens next can’t be stopped. Sparks start flying all over the place!

“Do you prefer to get reacquainted on my desk or yours?”

I enjoy a good novella, I always do, and Whitney (and Nicole!) seems to be perfecting the art of writing them. My Enemy Next Door is quite a good example of that. Even though it’s not my favorite one, I enjoyed reading it. Jace Kennedy and Courtney Ryan have a pretty great story to tell and they definitely do not lack of chemistry! These two were high school sweethearts and those glimpses to their past together are absolutely adorable! I loved reading how they fell in love and I hated it when we see that a misunderstanding makes them go in separate ways. But when they find themselves together again, that chemistry (and their feelings) are still there and it’s impossible for them not to act on it.

“He was my first love,” I said, my voice cracking. “My first real friend, my first real everything.”

As I said, the chemistry between Jace and Courtney is visible from the start and it is obvious that when they finally stop fighting what they feel, their relationship will be explosive. And it is! Still, there always is that black cloud of the past between them and it’s difficult for both to revisit those moments. It’s great when they do because they are able to see what really happened and start their relationship all over again. And with this comes my only complaint: the ending. The ending of My Enemy Next Door is extremely rushed. It’s like they talk about the problem, they resolve it and then the story ends. We don’t know what happens next and how Jace and Courtney’s relationship continues. I wanted more. In my opinion, this story needs a longer ending or even an epilogue to make it complete. Besides that, as I said, the story was a good read for me.

All or nothing, and I’m not going to accept nothing...

Therefore, I am rating My Enemy Next Door with 4 STARS because it was an entertaining and sexy read that was great to read between other longer books. I always enjoy a good novella with characters that deserve a second chance at being together. As I said, besides the sudden ending, I really enjoyed the building of the story and the chemistry between the couple. Let’s see if we have more surprises coming from this duo of authors (I hope so!).

It's cute, and this would be a nice quick read if you're looking for a second chance romance, but it was too short for it to become more. As always, the writing is engaging, but there wasn't enough time to give depth to the conflict and the Jace and Courtney's relationship. There wasn't enough time to become fully invested in the couple. There was so much potential though. I have to say that with what I saw, Jace and Courtney seemed to have an adorable relationship in the past.

I might write a full review soon for this, but this pretty much sums my feelings for the book.

I love a good enemies to lovers story and this was a great one!

Jace and Courtney were once prisoners of after school detention during Jace’s senior year. Through sheer charm and determination he breaks through Courtney’s walls and they become best friends, and then more than friends. Now ten years later, they are reunited in their workplace. What follows was some of the cutest revenge pranks I’ve read in a long while. Making things even more interesting they are neighbors and they both set about outdoing the other in the “getting even” stakes.

I loved both of these characters. Courtney had a bit of innocence and sweetness about her despite her animosity toward the hero. Jace was actually very open about what he wanted and let her know about it every chance he had. I loved that the whole time they were fighting he was gobbling up all that was Courtney, even if she was pissed.

This is a fast read that has several flashbacks but they were well highlighted and I was never lost. I enjoyed every one of them. The fact that they were so young at the time of their break up helped to ease over my uneasiness regarding the reason they separated. It really is a cute and adorable story with some steam thrown in and plenty of humor.

"I'm Jace Kennedy."
"Do you know the rules of personal space, Jace Kennedy?"

Well, this story is definitely cute and undoubtedly sweet.

-It is a second chance romance, because both of the main characters still after almost 10 years have feelings for each other and when they meet again their fire still burns.

-It a kind (not a very strong) enemies to lovers romance. Courtney tries to hate Jace and organizes pranks to get rid of him, but she normally fails because
1. Jace fights back with his own pranks
2. Courtney does not really hate Jace and her practical jokes are doomed to fail.

-It is story full of mistakes and misunderstandings between Courtney and Jace. So if you prefer clear things from the beginning, you may be dissatisfied. For example, I did not like the explanations in the end for the reasons Courtney and Jace broke up while they were in love. If they were such good friends when they were younger, they had to communicate more.

-This is a typical Whitney G romance in the sense that Jace is mostly a jerk and full of himself. BUT at the time he is such a sweet guy truly in love with his girl for years and years. No matter what, he treats her right and with respect. How can you not love this guy?

-The story has a HFN feeling rather than a HEA feeling like most of Whitney's books, but it will make you feel good and smile.

-Two points of view (Courtney and Jace), two time periods (nowadays and during high school).

I was smiling the whole time that I was reading the book. I hope that you will enjoy it, too.

You're still my only love and first heartbreak.

*drops everything*

ENEMY (noun):
A guy who pretends to be your friend during his senior year of high school after you’ve both been unfairly sentenced to semester-long detention. This guy may also be so goddamn charming and sexy that you end up slowly falling for him, but not before he rips your heart in two and makes you regret ever trusting him. [Please see the definitions of “Asshole” or “Jace Kennedy” for further clarification.]

So, when the heroine of this story presents her 'feelings' towards the hero in question, with this explanation, then the first thing that comes to your mind is: "oh shit, boy, did he fuck up or what?"

Then you wonder what happened? What did he do to evoke such animosity from our heroine?

*sigh* you just sigh when you reach the end and realize that all this hateful crap was based on a pure case of misunderstanding and stubborness and miscommunication

And then, you want to slap the shit out of them both cause well, they both fuckin wasted 10 years of their lives hanging on unresolved grudge and hurt for fuckin nothing...*sigh*

But thank fuck, it's a standard Whitney G, so I m holding on to the fantastically hilarious dialogues, snarky banter fuelex by funny pranks and almost childish outbursts of pent up angst until they realize that the love they had still exists inspite the 10 year gap of never resolved issues over practically nothing but a mere misunderstanding.

Thank fuck this is just a book...lol, imagine the pointless wasted time on being stubborn, while the minutes are fleeting and slipping away that you cant get back...and all this time you ve been passing on smth truly great and worth fighting and living for.

Puppy love to enemies to lovers!

Pretty good. Second chance romance and enemies to lovers. It’s an enjoyable and well written read. I loved their back story it was sweet. The end isn’t awe inspiring, but the authors wrap it up easily and quickly. All in all a great read if you’re looking for a second chance romance with a bit of sweet first love in the past and sexual tension in the present!

Jace Kennedy & Courtney Ryan first met in detention at Blue Harbor High School. They were best friends, & each other’s first love. A misunderstanding leaves them both with a broken heart, and blaming the other for the end of their relationship. They both go on to become attorneys graduating from Harvard & Yale at the top of their classes. Jace ends up in Seattle & Courtney in New York.

Jace is ready for a change & a fresh start. He takes a job at the #1 law firm in New York, Walton and Associates. He’s stunned when he crosses paths with the one woman he’s never been able to get over. He hasn’t seen Courtney in ten years, but she’s just as beautiful as he remembers.

Courtney can’t believe she’s going to have to work with Jace. She still hated him after all these years, & regrets ever trusting him. He’s just as sexy & cocky as he was in high school, and no man has ever made her feel the way Jace did.

-“He was my first love.”

-“My first real friend, my first real everything.”

-He kisses me in a way I’ve never been kissed before.

Jace & Courtney soon learn not only will they be working in the same office, but they are also new neighbors. They clash and the sexual tension overflows into passion. Will they admit they still care for each other or let pride get in the way?

This was a cute friends to enemies to lovers romance. Jace is super sexy & I really enjoyed this one.

Until this week I had been in a reading slump since LAST year. It started at the end of December, right around my holiday break. I must have DNFed 15 books during that time. It was a NIGHTMARE!!!! But it finally stopped this week.

So, I can say with 100% conviction that this book was a great read.

I was more than pleased with this book. When I found out that Whitney G would be writing a book with Nicole London (whom I have never even heard of - shame on me) I wasn't sure what to think. Not all collaborations work. And loving Whitney G's writing - I didn't think she needed a collaboration.

But boy was I wrong!!!!

I still think Whitney G. doesn't need to collaborate because her books are fantastic as they are, but this book was a HIT. My Enemy Next Door was witty, sassy, fast paced, captivating, and sweet. Pretty much exactly how I like my books.

The flashbacks (which I'm not usually a fan of) were adorable ♡. The enemies to lovers trope something I'm always looking forward to. The dialogues were witty, smart, and primed with sexual tension. The couples little war was entertaining and never crossed over to obnoxious or petty.

Ding, ding, ding - a WINNER!

Courtney and Jase were a wonderful couple. They met in detention during their high school junior and senior year and from there one they were inseparable. A beautiful story of becoming friends, and then lovers. That alone would have made a beautiful YA novel. I devoured those scenes/chapters and wished as always that the book would have been longer.

Because, as usual, I didn't know that My Enemy Next Door was a novella. And as usual, the end came WAY TO SOON!!!!!! Listen Whitney, you can't do that!!! I'm sitting there in my happy bubble, reading your fantastic book, and then you just stop the book - GRRRR!!!

Back to the book, life usually sucks, but this time it's a case of unfortunate misunderstandings.

I really enjoyed Courtney and Jace together. Jace was very open about his desire for Courtney, even after everything that happened, including their long status as enemies. I love that in a guy, when he doesn't shy away from speaking out about his desires and dreams. Courtney on the other hand needed a little more prodding, but when they finally managed to overcome their misunderstandings, she was all in.

So, another WINNER for me, a kick in the butt for my reading slump, and a confirmation that Whitney G is my kind of author. I'm officially a life long devotee of all things WHITNEY G.!!!!

I liked this book a lot. The dialogues were delightful and the plot had some nice twists. I liked the humor, which gave me plenty of chuckles, and the lighthearted tone of the book. Whenever Courtney and Jace were together I basically had heart palpitations, it was so romantic! The banter between them had me on the floor laughing. I fell in love with Jace, he was just misunderstood and Courtney had the wrong idea all along.
I would have liked some more closure, though. I felt the conclusion was not solid enough. It was so rushed.
Courtney and Jace had good chemistry, bickering, fights, and all that jazz. I do recommend this book!

MY ENEMY NEXT DOOR contained some of my favourite things in one: office setting, hate-love and second chance romance. It was a lot to pull off in a novella length book. This was an okay read for me, with bits I enjoyed and other elements that didn't float my boat.

I kind of liked both Jace and Courtney as individuals, but I struggled with them together. Their hate-love for some reason, didn't grab me and at times annoyed me a little. I did like the mostly present and sometimes past narrative. I really liked the sweet early times in school.

Some of the circumstances were over-convenient and I couldn't predict what the past issue was that led to their disconnect; in the end, that part felt a bit lacking. There was definite teen drama lama and occasional twenties drama too. It wrapped up pretty quick in the end and without the heat I expected. So all in all, it was a bit of a different experience and I don't know if that is because it was written as a duo or because it just didn't float my boat this time. I'll give this duo another go in the future. Whitney G alone usually works for me.

It's no secret, I love Whitney G. books and this one is no different. I immensely enjoyed this fun little second chance romance. It hit all my hotspots. It's sexy, funny, a tad angsty, and has two fantastic main characters who know what they want and where they're headed in life. Another amazing release!

Where this book (and most of her books) excels is in the character interactions. There's never a dull moment with these two. From the pranks and games they play on each other initial, to the witty and sexy banter that's trademark, Whitney G., to the telling flashbacks that show us the true story behind where their initial romance hit the skids, I was all in and completley engrossed in this amazing story!

I only had one minor issue with the book. The ending felt really abrupt to me. I wanted to know so much more about the characters and where they'd go from there. Other than that minor concern, this is an amazing read and I highly recommend to all!

*sighs* I had SO much hope for this book...but it was just another rushed book by this author. This second chance romance was cute and had SO much potential but I felt so disconnected for some reason...I didn’t feel anything between these characters and just wanted more. I don’t like when the reason characters are separated is miscommunication and could have been solved by talking and that happens in this book. Often times, to me, it feels forced and unnatural...I wish this aspect had more depth to it. The love was there but again it could have been so much more.
I love whitney as an author but I don’t want to lose faith yet...this book ends at 82%...I just want a full complete well written novel that I know whitney is capable of..I’m hoping we get that soon :(

What?? No! I need one more chapter!
However, it was a nice short read. I liked that the chapters about the past were written separately.
I don't have to many things to say. This is awkward (it doesn't happen so often).
I feel like the cover wasn't a good fit. I pictured Jace a little bit different. That's it.

A sexy and delectably fun read. I always find myself in a great mood whenever a Whitney Gracia Williams book graces my eReader and this collaboration with Nicole London is no different. I smiled, laughed and fanned myself with the characters’ antics.

In My Enemy Next Door, Courtney Ryan and Jace Kennedy, two ambitious and successful lawyers meet again after a decade when a misunderstanding broke them apart. And now, they’re not just working across the hall from one another, they’re also neighbors! They met in detention and became best friends, then fell in love while still in high school until Jace had to move away for college. He says it’s her fault they ended. She says he’s the one who broke her heart.

Without much choice but to work together, they start a battle of troublemaking pranks to one-up each other. From using up all the hot water to hiding suits, these two are in it to win. But the deep feelings they had for each other surface amidst the mischief as well as the truth behind their past heartbreak.

I loved this fast paced story, it was funny and witty, engaging and sweet. It starts with present day Jace and Courtney unexpectedly meeting and almost immediately declaring war on each other and has alternating flashbacks chapters narrating how they met, became friends and fell in love. Both the current and younger versions of them were wonderful together, and even though I loved the sexually charged animosity between them, I was rooting for them from start to finish and would have loved to get more.

My Enemy Next Door by Whitney Gracia Williams is a standalone contemporary romance. It’s a sweet, sexy and swoony story that had me hooked and smiling widely from start to finish.

"You are a cocky, arrogant asshole and I sincerely wish you misery for the rest of your life...PS--You weren't *that* damn sexy... "

Those were the last lines I wrote in Jace Kennedy's yearbook before graduating high school.

Enemies from the moment we met, we went out of our way to avoid each other whenever we could. And in the moments that we couldn't? Our heated arguments were strong enough to light the world on fire.

He was an all-star prick. Plain and simple.

I was a "band geek with fugly-ass braces." (Not true at all.)

Needless to say, I couldn't wait to leave him and our small hometown of Blue Harbor behind.

Now that it's ten years later, I've graduated from Harvard Law at the top of my class, and I'm working at the firm of my dreams. I'm happier than I've ever been, surrounded by new loyal friends, and ready to compete for the lead lawyer position.

Until I find out that Jace Kennedy graduated from law school, too.

Until I realize that he'll be working at the same exact firm, in the office right across from me.

And if that isn't unfortunate enough, he's far sexier and way more arrogant than I originally remembered. (Oh, and last night he moved in next door...)

summary:
when i was thinking about what to write, you know what i was thinking? why didn't i dnf this?
she hated him for reasons so stupid, and she's an audiobook narrator, he listens to her narrating, she gets embarrassed and don't got back to her apartment for days, because she doesn't want to face him! that was so childish for me, and when they finally talk, they don't talk they have sex.
don't get me wrong, i like the sex scenes, but i LOVE the romance, i didn't felt a connection between them, just sexual tension.

Why do I love romance stories based on lawyers so much?? I don't know what it is, but I lap them up and this was no exception.

A second chance romance between two high school lovers who reconnect years later, both as lawyers in NYC. Also, it was a love/hate relationship due to their breakup and you know how much I love those, they always have the best chemistry.

My only negative, and the reason I didn't give this a higher rating, is the fact that it all seemed so rushed. It was like the authors had an outline, and just filled in the gaps. There wasn't enough meaningful filler, I needed more words in order for me to really feel like this was a full-length novel. I really felt disappointed, because this was a really good story.

Anyhow, if you are familiar with either or both of the authors I'd highly recommend giving it a go. And if you aren't, then I still recommend, but with the warning that it is a quick read that doesn't get into too much depth.

A sexy and delectably fun read. I always find myself in a great mood whenever a Whitney Gracia Williams book graces my eReader and this collaboration with Nicole London is no different. I smiled, laughed and fanned myself with the characters’ antics.

Hudson’s neighbor is quite vocal during…ahem, “fun times” and that’s all he here’s. When he decides to confront her imagine his shock that his loud neighbor, Chassie Heritage is also working at the law firm he helping out. Oh, she is also a blast from his past “enemy” from school. What are the odds! This is a fun a quick enemies to lovers novella that I really enjoyed. Told in dual POV
