Elsie was an amazing woman. She was a computer genius and worked in tech support for North Star - not in the field. When she was asked to be a field operative and help someone in her hometown, she reminded her boss that she wasn't a field operative. But her boss said she was the best person they had for this mission. So, with reservations, she went.
When Nate was discharged from the Navy after trying to expose corruption in the military, he went back home to his brother's ranch. But someone wanted him dead! North Star sent Elsie in to keep him safe and determine who was after Nate. Even though Elsie didn't think she had the skills for this assignment, she was great at the job! I loved seeing her handle everything so well. Especially when she didn't think she could.
As it turned out, Elsie knew the man she went to help from when they went to school together. He couldn't believe this woman was the same girl he used to know. Nate was amazed by the North Star team. And was so glad that someone finally believed him after all these years!
If you like fast-paced romantic suspense with a HEA, you will love this book.

Mystery, suspense and a bit of romance
Elsie and Mate seem like an unlikely couple. They grew up in the same small town in Minnesota, but were from very different backgrounds. Her father abused his five daughters and Bates family helped whenever they could.
Now flash ahead many years and Nate is now in the crosshairs of North Star, the agency Elsie work's for as lead tech operative. She can return home working undercover, without raising a red flag.
Can she convince Nate that she's on his side when no-one has believed his military conspiracy theory since his dishonorable discharge from the Armed Forces? This is full of non-stop action and suspense: well worth the read!

Everyone knows if Nicole Helm puts out an Intrigue, I'm going to read it! It was no different for Cowboy in the Crosshairs, and while it wasn't my favorite book in the series, it was still well-written with all the signature twists and turns of a Nicole Helm Intrigue. If you're reading this series, you'll love to get to know Elsie better and find out why Nate isn't paranoid but in fact, carrying secrets that people don't want him to share. I can't wait to see how Nate and Elsie's relationship grows in the next book!

I LOVED THIS SO MUCH!!!! Oh poor Nate, struggling to believe in himself and his research despite having years of everyone thinking he's crazy only for Elsie to come along and believe in him. So much going on and normally I'd be all irritated with all the twists and turns of the story but every time Elsie or someone else uncovered new information, I literally gasped out loud.
Highly recommend! I love Nicole Helm as an author and this did not disappoint!

Great for intrigue with the romance subtle!
Loved that the intrigue was primary but then the loyalty of friends and family next with the romance subtle but building throughout.
