The author has got so tied up with the domestic drama part of the story that very little else seems to be happening. It definitely felt like he was just filling in time, there were even more lost saucer recoveries. You could take big chunks of dialogue from previous books and just drop it into this one and not notice the difference.

It’s not until well into the second half of the book that the actual story begins, but this was a bit weird. The idea of returning to Earth to recruit more crew, seemed reasonable, though the idea to light up the sky to promote a YouTube video of Topper’s band was quite bizarre. Then there was the Noonan & Earhart incident, which was beyond bizarre, but at least I felt something was happening and as a result found the story more interesting. If possible I would have given 2.5 stars.

This is a hard review to write...

For starters, I love where the storyline appears to be heading. I hate the addition of more names. Having opening pages with lists of who they are and their nationality might help you but it only bogs the storyline down. You meet new people fine but there is no reason for most of them to remain in the story. Ships have command and support staff but the bulk of the support staff goes without names. Think Star Trek or Star Wars there are boat loads of extras, we don't need to know all their names. If you need them, give them a spokesperson! It is hard enough reading a book with only one chapter help your readers by whittling do the named characters. In spite of the irritations, I am looking forward to the next book. I just realized, I wrote this review as if the author will read it but he'll probably only count it as part of the 100!

the saga of Bob and Nikki continues in its well-established way. There is plenty of the type of dialogue the series has become known for, more good old boy wisdom, with more robot, alien, and human hi-jinks along the way as well.

Some plotlines are sown up, other new ones emerge with another variation on the lost flier theme the most intriguing. The second half of the book deals with bob and company hopefully coming to an agreement of sorts with the US government and being allowed back home to Missouri. Whether this is the actual case and how the rest of the world reacts we have yet to see.

Now into its 17th volume, the series remains pretty much as it has been from the start, amiable, humorous storytelling. If you like this style it's the series strong point, if you're getting tired of it it's the series weakness. I can understand both perspectives. At the moment my love of the characters and style, plus developing plot points are enough for me to give it good reviews and carry on enjoying it.

He's getting better!

Jerry writes fantastic stories but truly awful dialogue. This book is a definite improvement in that area however! While there are still problems- some of it reads like single digit IQ redneck- things are improving.
One of the remaining problems occurs when people are teasing each other- which happens a lot. Weak humor followed by "He sure got you, didn't he?" "Yeah, he did!"
"But isn't it fun to wind him up?"

The above is repeated almost verbatim at least a dozen times in this book alone. The "joke" or "gotcha" that started the above dialogue was so weak it was hard to detect.

Still some work to do, but definite improvements. I just wish (and this is purely personal) he hadn't chosen "Boss" as his protagonists title. Sounds like a 1930's political novel.
Or perhaps the Dukes of Hazzatd.

Another joyous read

I wish the author could write these Bob's Saucer Repair stories faster, as they are a real joy. I'm hopeful there will be a lot more to come, and there are certainly plenty of potential threads to follow. If you haven't started at the beginning of the series, you have a real treat awaiting you if you do. They are such a pleasure to me that I've started paying for each story rather than read free with Amazon Prime. I'm happy to be old enough to catch nearly all of his jokes and references. What a creative mind!

This is the 17th of the series and truthfully, I enjoy reading them because they are like visiting an old friend that tells stories. His grammar may not be right and some of his paragraphs never ending, but the stories are pleasant. There are good basic values being taught, which is why I read them to my kids. The story line is not hard to follow and there are rarely surprises.

These are plain good family books and I cheer Mr. Boyd's work. I certainly will continue to add to the collection because We've just got to find out about the ___________ and ___________, etc.

Excellent Series!!

Bob Saucer Repair s is a great series of books with great dialogue and excellent characters. Bob has come a long way since he found Nikki trying to fix her broken ship in his garage. Their latest adventure takes them back to earth to recruit more folks from nursing homes, dealing with idiot politicians and black Operations. These are fun books and you will keep turning the pages late into the night!

Loved it!!!

This book felt like a bit of a wrap up for the Bob & Nikki series, and if it is, it’s a dang (as Bob would say) good one!

I’ve loved reading these stories, so thank you, Jerry Boyd, for the wonderful hours of wholesome entertainment!

If the series continues on, hurrah! I’ll keep reading, but if Mr. Boyd is done with it, hopefully he’ll come out with something new that’s equally fun to follow!

Another good recommendation

I don't write a lot of these, just punch the stars, but this series was just what I needed. Lots of serious stuff going on and this was all about the fun. I tried the first on the recommendation of Nathan Lowell and as usual found a jewel. Folks, if you have authors that you like, check out their blogs for what they are reading, and discover your own jems. Well played Mr. Boyd, thank you for the escape.

Laughed out loud!

I am an incurable reader of science fiction. I picked up book one of this series because it sounded different. I have never had as much fun reading as I have enjoyed in these books. Jerry Boyd has a style that tickles my funny side and I never get tired of his stories. My only problem with him is that he doesn't write fast enough! Having to wait for the next episode is worse than waiting to see what the Lone Ranger will do next as a kid.

Another Good Story In The Series

It is still a pain to have to flip back to the front when characters appear I don't instantly remember. Things would read something better if Mr. Boyd could remind us who these characters are without interrupting the flow of the narrative. And he needs to learn what A Noun Of Address is. I suggest he read the little book Eats Shoots And Leaves.

Big developments for BSR

The books in this series have unusual formatting, in that there are no chapter breaks, but there are delineations between scenes so it's easily readable and not just a wall of text. I do, however, recommended readers begin with book one and read them in sequence.

There are big developments in the plot in this one and it's nice to see things continue to progress.

Absolutely stellar adventurous story

To begin with, I have the whole series that Mr. Boyd published before he passed. Rest in peace, sir, you’ve created a wonderful universe. Robots nuclear weapons and United States and other government oh dear. If you know anything about the series, know that the boss is firmly in control. This thing is a hilarious read with engaging moments. Reminds me of stuff I read in the 60s by HiLine as them off. Well worth reading, well worth buying.

Finally - Back to Home

While this return home is taking longer than I expected, it has, at least started. Good storyline with some appreciated reactions to overbearing locals. The cast of characters provided at the beginning of each installment is greatly appreciated as each new character is added. This installment ends on a positive note and promises more yet to come!

Fantastic as always

Plenty of action and intrigue, plenty of romance and mystery. This is the 17th book of the series, and it hasn't gotten boring or old hat yet. Still plenty of laughs, and TV program references. Plenty of aliens who aren't so alien we can't get along: eventually.😂😂 Can't get the next book out quick enough for me. Love them.

Can't believe it's 17.

Well some of the books were a bit mangled. And some weren't sure where they were going, but still managed to get somewhere, but I'm waiting to see what comes next.

The author has written Bob into an untenable position on earth with a spaceside mystery box. I wonder what's behind the curtain or door 3.

Seventeen good books

All 17 books in this series are good. Easy to read, move right along, and not repetive. I hope there are more to come. I wonder if any underlying message will be noted by anyone who could benefit from it, and could wish that the author knows something we don't.

Fun in space

I was excited to read this latest book in the series. I have read them all and can say they are humorous and refreshing. I recommend starting with book 1 and read them in order. I read an average of 20 books per month and have always waited anxiously for the next one. I hope the Bob & Nikki stories continue, I haven't been disappointed and feel you won't be either.

Bob and Nikki - Rocking our World

With a little help from Topper of course. I’ve read the entire series to date and thoroughly have enjoyed them all - but this one gets five stars from me as it has been the best by far. Thanks for a fun read, good story telling, and a lot of wonderful insight on life.

And it continues

I highly recommend this series. Sometimes it's a challenge to remember all the characters and some of the things that have happened but it's worth the time. The 4 stars is only because of the story gets a little slow sometimes. Keep up the great stories Mr. Boyd. Thanks for the adventures.

Home sweet home

Home is where your heart is. Why in our dire times we have some people in our government, and seems big companies that they think their way is better. Most of us want to be free, have our homes, families and our God. To take our freedom away is not good. Where's our BSR.

If you can binge read this series I envy you!

Jerry has done a fantastic job of developing this series. The foreshadowing is nice because it means that there will be another book. It is an amazingly interesting and funny story. Jerry blends in a little silliness with some seriousness.
The whole point is good, clean, entertainment.

You have to love Bob and Nikki and friends

I will say it flat out I love Jerry Boyd, his writing, Witt and style in Bob and Nikki series is a sweet break from formal style sci first hum drum. Boyd yet again writes with heart and reality, with a lot of hoots and hazard, and giggling and snickers on the readers part...start and book one and read them all...

Optimistic

A good story with a upbeat ending with lots of opportunities for more sequels! I can't say it's any less realistic than other men in black style stories, but it felt a titch, Pollyannaishe for me. Still the subject matter the joking , & the interplay was clearly on point for me.

It's about time... big plot advancement.

If you read from the start, this installment pays off an a couple big plot threads and adds some new threads to the tapestry. Be sure you're building on the full series when you start #17 or you'll get lost very fast. It reads easily and leaves a warm and satisfying feeling when you hit the end. Onward to #18.

There's not much I can give you here without giving spoilers, but suffice it to say, this is one of the best books in the series so far, and Bob and Nikki make a lot of progress toward their goals. I really enjoy these books, they are sci-fi but full of fun and humor. Start with Bob's Saucer Repair and come along on the journey.

Yet another wonderful read!

This one is very exciting and dramatic. Like all the previous books in this series, it does end on a positive note, on the other hand, it is fiction, and you will understand that comment when you read it. YES, it IS a very exciting book, and I DO encourage you to read it because I really enjoyed reading it!
