After a stint in anger management therapy, the last thing I need is a crazy hot guy abducting me off the street. Especially when he accuses me of plunging his homeland into a war with a dragon army.
Clearly, he needs professional help even worse than I do...
Only, everything he accuses me of sounds a lot like the angry doodles I've been drawing in my therapy sketchbook.
But if this isn’t just another stress-induced episode, does that mean I really am an Ink Mage? Could I really possess the power to change the world with a stroke of a pen?
And what’s the crazy hot guy going to say when he realizes I have no idea how to undo what I’ve done?
Ink Magic is a full-length sword & sorcery fantasy, and is the first book in the Pen & Sword series. It ends on a cliffhanger and is recommended for 18+ due to language, violence and sexual situations.
Other books in the series due out in 2021: Book 2 – Ink Queen. Book 3 – Ink Inferno.
Mygods, so much evilnesses by this evilauthor.... I would give this book and all her other books 8 stars out of 5 if I could ~ yeah, it's that good. I recommend that you are prepared for all the feels, have tissues ready and don't throw it out the window from the evil cliffhangers because they are there making you want more and more and more.... Soo good!!
(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I change my mind on a series, so want to change my scoring by more than 0.50 of a star. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)
3.75*
First time read the author's work?: Yes
Will you be reading more?: Yes
Would you recommend?: Yes
------------ How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author) 4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author). 3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series) or 3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)
All of the above scores means I would recommend them! - 2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.) 1* = Disliked
Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)
Our heroine has issues, some personal, some projected on others. Completely unwittingly, but as the truth becomes clear, she has to figure out how she is going to deal with the next found powers of hers.
This is book one of the series, so a good place to start.
This is an urban fantasy story of a unique nature. The story is well written and easy to read with a fascinating premise that is nicely developed into the plot. Both the setting and the characters are well developed as well, creating a literal tapestry upon which the story unfolds. I loved all the details that were put into the story and watching our heroine come to understand what was happening. What she was making happen. This is a very fun and engaging story and it definitely left me looking for the next book.
Highly recommended

What a great start to this series! This story line is thoroughly engrossing as we meet Kiera interacting with her doctor. (I kept wishing there were pictures of her drawings so that we could see them too.) Heading home, she is abducted and accused of putting his homeland in the middle of a war with a dragon army. At first, he sounds delirious. But then it starts to sound familiar, like the artwork she has been drawing in her therapy sketchbook, all those fantasy images that the doctor was admiring so much.
So does this mean she really is an Ink Mage who can change the world with a stroke of a pen? The problem is, she didn’t know she could do that – and she doesn’t know how to change it back! What does he expect her to do now?
More like 3.75 stars but I rounded up. Let's do the cons first because there aren't many. I kept putting this book down and starting others.....that's a star lost. There wasn't a big plot issue or weird writing that made me lose interest so I can't put my finger on why I took so long to get through this. Normally I like a slow burn but this was a snails pace. On to the pros....Kierra is in a mental institution, ex druggie bf that takes over her apartment, kidnapping and finding out that she has magic all in the first couple chapters! There's an entire world that she didn't know existed except in her dreams. I don't like writing spoilers but I will say there is action, magic, royalty and confusion.
I'm trying to think what to say. The book starts of with Kiera living in our world. Almost immediately, she's kidnapped and taken to a magical world. The book is 95% in Kiera's point of view so the reader is as confused as she is. And by the end of the book she's still confused.
The book is full of varied, conniving, characters. Lots of politics which we don't really understand at this point.
Kiera and Legion, the king's son, are at this point pawns. It will be intetesting to see how that changes. I would have liked to be a bit more in the know. I'm still a bit confused. It was interesting, though.
Kierra thought the mental institution was bad, nothing could have prepared her for this hell
When Kierra leaves the mental hospital she was just trying to get back home in time to save something of her stuff from her coked out ex. She never realized she'd be kidnapped, gagged, and literally taken to another world where her hot fantasy men in ber dream were real. Real, but hostile, as in hating her guts, and worse, they want her to do magic. Kierra better find a way to convince her head kidnapper she isn't who he thinks she is, or how to give him what he wants.
You know what its like when a blurb entices you enough that you want to read it but you just aren’t sure what is going to happen, is it going be as good as the blurb suggests? That’s how I felt going in.
This book was even better than the blurb suggested. The characters had so much depth and there is a real unique twist to the magic genre here.
The pacing is strong and fast but not rushed I really enjoyed this and cant wait for more.
I loved this story and am impatient to read the next in the series to see what happens. The story was wonderfully woven and did a great job illustrating the confusion the main character had at the evens that were occurring. I found that the work pulled me in and I found it hard to put down. I enjoyed this fantasy work and am looking forward to the sequel.

This book is absolutely brilliant and magical and mesmerizing.
I cannot praise this book highly enough. The notion of ink magic is fascinating and brilliant. The images of things unknown having power in another reality just grabbed me and wouldn't let me go. I definitely want to read much more of this story and soon.
4.5 stars It took a bit to get into this book because I'm not really a fan of medieval settings for books. Also, Kierra didn't act the way I expected for the situations she found herself in. But once I moved past that I loved the storyline. So unique.
Interesting to go from a stay in an anger management facility to a place where anger might just manage to keep our main character alive long enough to figure out what the hell she has fallen into--and if it was a hell of her own making or a place she just might be able to save--of her snark doesnt get her gutted first. Biggest issue was all the coouediting issue
Why must I deal with a cliff hanger. This is not what I wanted. But Ms Martin is making me have to search for stinking book 2. So frustrating why couldn’t you just put a happy ending in this book but no! Ugh
It’s not my usual read because of all the swearing but I couldn’t put it down once I started. The main character was unapologetically funny! She’s a contrast of soft- hearted heroine and tough warrior. Can’t wait for what she’s going to get into on the the next one!
interesting magic system, along with some truly wicked characters. Great fun and a blistering read. It does end on a cliffhanger, though, so be prepared to load up the next book in the series.
This is a great read for anyone who enjoys syfy and paranormal storylines. I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a great read. Strong characters and flow to the story. Will have you on the edge of your seat throughout the story
There was a super quick flip from enemies to lovers. It took me a while to get on board with their devotion to each other. Legion should have killed either his father or his cousin. I don't have much respect for him with the way things went down. He never really stood up for himself.
I really enjoyed Ink Magic and found the characters engaging, particularly Kiera. This was a great start to the series and I’m looking forward to the next two books.
I’ve also read Packless by the same author, which I loved, and Ink Magic is another fabulous strong remarkable leading woman novel. Looking forward to number two!
More like 4.5 stars. I loved this story and devoured it from end to end. The swearing was a bit much in places, but it suited keira's character. On to the next book.
