Mabel Bowen learned the hard way that it's better for her if she stays single.

No problem. As the most popular deejay in town, work keeps her busy.

But then she meets the all-business accountant overseeing the sale of her radio station, and the only thing she can think about are the Superman muscles hiding under his Clark Kent suit.

When a scorching night out obliterates all of Mabel's previously drawn lines, she has to decide if she's willing to risk her job—and her heart—on a man who may have a calculator for a brain.

Tempting Talk, an RWA© Golden Heart© award finalist, is a feisty, funny standalone rom-com about a woman of words and a man of numbers who fight falling in love the whole way.

In these Pandemictimes in Quarantinelandia, it has been really tough for me to read for pleasure. For the first month, I went from 3-5 books a week to nothing. I was able to get back in the readins headspace first through bonkers alien romances, then through historicals. Basically, anything that doesn't look like our world of about 6 months ago. Typically I read far more contemporary romance than any other subgenre, but I've had very little interest in them lately. So I wasn't sure how this book would go for me.

Well, I couldn't put it down. I was immediately drawn into the crackling electricity of Mabel and Jake's attraction. I loved them together and immediately felt invested in them as a couple as well as the other challenges they were up against. There was a jealousy thing that happened midway through that I didn't love, but that was a communication problem at heart and it's not as if I don't fail at communicating when I'm hurt. This story was real enough to be believable, but not real enough that it wasn't a much needed escape. It's also really damn funny, the dialogue is smart and snappy and it gets bonus points for effective use of consent and thoughtful feminism.

Whitney has become one of my favorite authors in a short amount of time. She delights with sassy characters that tickle the funny bone and melt your heart and makes a point while doing so. Tempting Talk flirts it's way past your defenses with laugh out loud dialogue, captivating characters and tempting storytelling. Jake and Mabel both have something to prove to themselves and the world around them, that may end up costing them more than they could possibly know. Tempting Talk will shake up your emotions in classic Sara Whitney fashion. With humor and heart.

Mae is a DJ, cohosting with her best friend Dave. Jake is an accountant who has no time outside of work. These two unlikely characters are drawn to each other
Through experience, Mae is determined not to get involved with anyone at work, that includes the hot accountant.

I loved the banter between Mae and Dave, I would listen to their radio station. Their light humour and friendly banter really made me laugh. I loved the chemistry between Jake and Mae, they worked well together and I loved their interactions.
That being said, as much as I enjoyed them, their lack of communication and their stop, start relationship nearly gave me whiplash. It didn't flow as much as I would have liked. I can understand both of their hesitation however it frustrated me. Maybe the author was going for that type of suspense in their relationship, yet in my opinion, this type of relationship didn't work for me. Which if I'm honest is a complete shame because I genuinely loved the characters.

This is a quick read with a dual POV. It was well written and the characters really stood out.
I am glad I read this book and I did enjoy it.

Mabel and Jake both have professional goals and are wary of relationships. So why then do they find themselves drawn to each other, and if pressed to make a choice - their professional lives, or love, which will they choose?

This is a fun, sweet and passionate romance. I loved these two, individually and together, especially Mabel - she's sassy and sweet and adorable. Although this is the first by this author that I have read, it most definitely will not be the last now.

Jake’s past has ensured that he remains focused on his career to ensure that he is able to look after his family and his personal life has become a very distant second. He finds himself facilitating the purchase of a radio station for the company he works for which brings Mabel into his life.

Mabel has decided to focus on her career as well as a relationship with a co-worker went sour and that is not a path she intends to go down again but there is something about Jake that draws her in.
It is only a matter of time before the chemistry between them ignites but when their professional goals put them at cross-purposes will love or their insecurities prevail?

Great chemistry, a little drama and whole lotta fun as Jake and Mabel realize what is truly important in life.

I enjoyed this book a lot. I love Jake and was actually pretty surprised by that. When I first "met" him in Tempting Taste he did not leave that much of an impression but Jake is an incredible man whose only goal is to make sure his family is taken care of even if he has to work himself to the bone to do it. That is until he helps his old college roommate with the finances at the new radio station he purchased. There he meets the enticing dj Mabel, who finally makes him see that his life is pretty lonely.

Mabel and Jake both have qualms about relationships and this book moves rather slowly with both Jake and Mabel pushing the relationship away. There are a lot of false starts here, so much so it definitely got exasperating. That being said, the chemistry between the two is great. The characters are fun, the writing is solid, and the story is interesting. It is a solid four and a half star book, but they won't let me rate it that way. In the end, Jake and Mabel figure it out and get the HEA.

Sarah Whitney, ‘Tempting Talk’.
Tempt Me series, book 3.

As a Hidden Gems ARC reader I received a free copy and promised an honest review. Here it is.

Rating: 4 stars (of 5).

In general: Sassy radio DJ finds love with ambitious accountant .

Main characters:
- Mabel (Mae) Brown.
DJ at a local radio station in Beaucoeur, Illinois. She’s content with her single status since - years ago - a bad break up with her former boyfriend, son of her boss, resulted in loosing her dream job at a great radio station in California.

- Jake Carey.
Since his youth he - successfully - worked very hard to lift his family out of poverty. No time for pleasure or dates.

- Dave Chilton.
For many years Mabel’s partner in their duo radio talk show. He was loyal to Mae when she was fired in California and followed her to Illinois. He’s happily married and he and his wife are Mabel’s best friends.

Mabel and Jake meet when the firm of Jake’s friend Brandon buys the Beaucoeur radio station. Jake’s accountancy is hired by Brandon to make the local, heretofore family owned radio station profitable. Brandon as the new owner will modernize the radio station and Jake will assist him with info of the financial aspects of the sale. A successful assignment will make him partner of his firm
Jake and Mabel are physically attracted from the first moment. But to start a permanent relationship will be problematic: Mabel had a bad experience in the past and Jake’s ambition to create a profitable radio station could conflict with wishes of the staff (and Mabel).
Then the author, Sara Whitney, creates an nice plot with wonderful characters, unexpected turns in the story and interesting information about a local radio station.
In my opinion it’s a good thing that Sara Whitney isn’t a copy writer for DJ talkshows: for me the jokes between Mae and Dave felt a bit forced and not really funny. But that was made up for by the rest of the book. A pleasure to read.

I loved Sara Whitney's "Tempting Talk," a sweet, witty, and engaging story featuring likeable, complex characters. The main characters of this story, Jake and Mabel, were very well matched, and it was truly a pleasure to see them find happiness with each other after they had both been burned so badly by romantic partners in the past.

I was intrigued by Jake, the male lead, when he was introduced earlier in this series. He seemed so polished and sophisticated, and I never suspected how sensitive he actually was beneath that cool, workaholic exterior. He threw himself into his work to compensate for feelings of loneliness and yearning for an emotional connection with a romantic partner. Mabel also buried herself in work, though her reasons for doing so were somewhat different from Jake's. However, they understood each other in a very unique way, and couldn't help being drawn together despite the obstacles standing in the way of a relationship.

In addition to the central romance between Jake and Mabel, I enjoyed the dynamic between Mabel and her best friend/co-host, Dave. They acted like brother and sister at times, which made for some very amusing interactions. Dave's wife Ana was pretty great too, and I loved the way she encouraged Mabel to step out of her comfort zone and pursue a relationship with Jake.

Overall, I highly recommend "Tempting Talk" and look forward to reading the next book in this series.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, but I also found it to be an exercise in frustration. Jake is a total sweetheart. It took me longer than I’d like to admit remembering who Jake was at first, but as we’d seen in the previous books, he will move heaven and earth to make sure that his mother and sister are taken care of. (Even if they don’t need that from him anymore.) Mabel was badly burned by a previous intraoffice relationship and that’s made her extremely reluctant to trust, on a personal level, any man she works with. Together, this pair was like oil and water: they were constantly separating from one another. And that’s where all my frustration came from. We spend a lot of time watching Jake and Mabel get almost together only for them to break apart again, and again, and again, and again. I love that we get them together in the end, but for all that drama and angst getting them there, it happens so fast. I blinked and I felt like I missed something important. I’m very curious about the set up of the next book, so I’m really looking forward to seeing what that story brings us.

Sara Whitney is a new to me author, and man was I was missing out on a lot since I came to the Tempt Me party late! It's the story of Mabel Bowen & Jake Carey, who never intended on being drawn to each other because of certain issues with each of their pasts. Jake is doing everything he can to take care of his family, leaving little time for finding his person, while Mabel definitely got burned when her last relationship went south which could have derailed her career, so her only focus is on that it never happens again. Despite all this, these two are completely drawn to each other, though they're doing everything they can to stop it, which makes a push & pull which hurts so good. The interactions are hilarious, while the sparks are flying everywhere, so I was all in cover to cover. Even the secondaries made the story better as they did their best to make sure these two saw past their own hangups to see the bigger picture. I LOVED this story, and will be reading past & future work from this talented author! Now, it's your turn to hit that one click button to experience it for yourselves! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

Entertaining but also frustrating. We first meet Jake in Tempting Taste but we didn’t learn much about him. In this book, the 3rd in the series, we find out Jake is an amazing man. His main goal is that of other’s to make sure his family is taken care of even if he has to work himself to the bone to do it. Mabel is an amazing DJ and when they meet, Jake soon realizes just how lonely his life is. Mabel and Jake both have pasts that have engineered them to be self sufficient. They both tend to push partners away. There are way too many times this couple ‘almost’ becomes a couple and that became frustrating and I wish the author hadn’t strung us along so many times. For me, it took away from the read. But, all in all, accept for that, it was a good read. exasperating. I voluntarily received an arc copy of this book by Hiddengems

I have really enjoyed each Sara Whitney book I've read so far and Tempting Talk is no exception.

It was fun to see Mabel's career as a deejay and her relationship with her co-host and friend Dave. She doesn't want to get involved with anyone from work, but then she meets Jake, an accountant helping with the sale of her station. They have a strong connection, but both are hesitant to start something.

The story really loved well with a great balance of romance, humor, drama, and a touch of angst. There is a bit of start and stop to Mabel and Jake's relationship, but it made sense with both of their concerns.

I once again found the book hard to put down and ended up reading way past my bedtime. This can be read as a standalone, but the whole series is great!

Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.

Really enjoyed this slowburn about Jake, Finn's workaholic CPA, responsible, older brother who we met in Tempting Heat, and Mabel, a deejay working at the station acquired by one of his clients. There's a conflict of interest, since he's privy to business decisions that affect her radio show, which, spoiler alert, does come between them, but they do eventually get over it. The very interesting thing about this particular book is we have another demisexual hero (first and last I've ever read was Zach, from Talia Hibbert's That Kind of Guy) and we see how Jake leaned into his workaholic tendencies to avoid having to explain why he wasn't interested in casual hookups that were available to him as a Clark Kent lookalike - it was a light touch on how toxic masculinity hurts men, too.

Mabel has sworn off work-romance relationships. Jake doesn't have time for a relationship with his goals to make partner. Their attraction can't be denied, but will they realize what is important before it is too late?

I absolutely loved watching these two finding and accepting love. I didn't blame Jake for being slow to change his path because it had been his only path for so long, but loved how when he made up his mind, he went full force. I didn't blame Mabel at all for being scared because once burned, twice shy, but loved seeing her let down her walls. Good read!

This is book number 3 in this series. Mabel and Jake story is entertaining, and the banter between these two is great. Promises, secrets, betrayal will have Mabel and Jake running from there past and there future. Flirty office lunches to one night out will blur the lines between what is professional and personal. Will a little miss understanding ruin everything for these two. Can Jake convince Mabel to turn up the volume on their future, or will she decide that the numbers don’t add up?

This is the story of Mabel Bowen, a gregarious early morning DJ, and Jake Carey, a workaholic accountant. They both have issues from their past that should keep them apart. But opposites attract, and no matter how hard they try to stay away from each other, they simply can't. Their interactions are hysterical, as they really are two entirely different personalities, and the secondary characters are hysterical as they try to convince these two that they shouldn't try so hard to stay apart.

I'm new to Sara Whitney's books, but now I'm going to have to go find her other books!

Sweet and sexy!
Heart beating, heart racing, heart breaking, & heart warming!
Mabell, co-host DJ on a morning radio show, is perky and sarcastic, witty and funny - and not in an annoying way. She and Dave are the perfect team.
In comes Jake, CPA to the big media company that's taking over the station. Automatic enemy? He is a super serious workaholic with no desire for a social life yet has a great personality- not a playboy and not a nerd, the perfect balance yet a little closed off.
Denying sparks and giving in to them are equally hard for both of them!
Great read!

This was an okay book, didn’t love it but didn’t hate it. My main complaints are that I did not feel a connection with either of the main characters and the conflict seemed childish. I don’t get what Mabel didn’t understand about confidentiality and that Jake was not legally able to tell her about the new changes coming to the radio station. And the fact that when she finally understood, she continued to stay away from Jake for no good reason made no sense. I also really wish the author did more with Jake being demisexual than simply mentioning it a couple times

As someone who was looking forward to Jakes story, this book was definitely disappointing.

I had a great time with Mabel the sexy coed DJ and Jack the hot accountant. Mabel is leery about getting involved with Jake due to a past humiliation. Jake was not looking for a relationship but after meeting Mabel he decided she is worth the time. The characters are well developed and engaging and the chemistry between them is undeniable. The flow of the storyline flowed smoothly.

Tempting Talk is a fun, sexy & entertaining story. Jake & Mabel meet when he's hired to run an audit on the radio station where she's a DJ. While there's an immediate spark they each have reason to avoid mixing business with pleasure. Jake has had one goal for his entire adult life. Mabel is content to stay in her comfort zone. As they start to become friends & grow closer, they both begin to realize that what you think you want doesn't always bring you the happiness.

It took me a little longer to get through this book than its predecessors. Maybe it was due to the Rona or the length (I think this is longer than Tempting Taste). Still, this one is a bit heavier than the past two because it's dealing with two people who are actively running away relationships due to baggage rather than the usual romantic "I wanna love but I'm stupid" leads.

Still, I loved the cast of characters and can't wait to see what Aiden's deal is in the next book.

Another Amazing Outing

Sara Whitney scores again in this instant attraction, reluctant, wounded hearts, fated mates romance. Filled with sparkling dialog, heart-wrenching near-misses, and believable characters throughout, I was hooked on page 1 and there was no respite until the end. Easily a stay-up-all-night read, so don't start unless you're well-rested or have the self-dicsipline of a SEAL on mission. Most highly recomended.

I really liked the start of this one, but there were some elements I didn't like as much in this book as in the first one. I think what bothered me was the whole "let's make X person jealous by using Y person" trope that was present for a chunk of the second half of the book. Otherwise, another sweeter (less drama) romance that I enjoyed, especially with all the nice side characters to help flesh out the world.

Definitely Works For Me

A great work place romance that avoids the annoying cliche of the characters being able to fix everything if they just talk to each other. They go through real problems that they really work through together. The pages flew by before I knew it. Definitely recommend!

I mean, this was fine. Really more like 2.5 ⭐️. The ending was strong but the rest of it…I dunno. There was so much back and forth with the relationship, like they kept ALMOST committing and then not and that was annoying. And I didn’t like the FMC very much. She really did not see anyone else but herself.

I’ll probably read the third book, but I’m in no rush.
