I really enjoyed this book because Alex explains the whys behind many familiar Christian beliefs and practices, such as why sin is serious and why God is Lord. Alex argues that in order to be truly devoted to God, we must see Him clearly and understand him rightly. Often we get caught up in trying to serve God and neglect our relationship with the Lord and time spent abiding in Him. Each chapter has valuable insights and important truths, often helpfully illustrated with personal anecdotes. One chapter that particularly stuck out to me was the one about how sin is not breaking an impersonal law, but the personal heart of God. This book is a pretty quick read, but a lot of time can and should be spent reflecting on each chapter. I plan to go back and read it again to really soak in the information Alex shares and challenges us with!

Excellent book! Alex writes as well as he preaches — and having all of his truisms recorded in one book! A very good, wisdom packed book. Easily a must read for anyone and everyone, as he words things effortlessly and memorably! Having heard him speak on several occasions, this book is well worth reading!

This book explains and expands upon familiar concepts in a very digestible way. The anecdotes as well as the use of verse help pull everything together in a meaningful way as well. It's a quick read but leaves space for lots of reflection and consideration.
