English title is Don’t Pick Up Boyfriends From the Trash Bin . Ever finish a novel and feel convinced you will never experience that feeling again? This is what DPUBFTB has done to me. This will be the novel that I compare all other world hopping/quick transmigration books to. This is not a short book at 270 chapters and over 1 million words (I’m not 100% sure of the accuracy of that 😬). I’ve become quite attached to the MC and ML and will miss them and their sweet interactions terribly.
*This book will be published by Hai Tang Books and the translations will be taken down per the publishers request when preorders for volume 1 end (no date yet). I’ve included at the end where/how to read (you will need to support the author and buy the raws from jjwxc).
MC Chi Xiaochi: smart, cunning, clever, touch/feelings averse due to life circumstances ML Lou Ying: considerate, gentle, patient, greenest of green flags
Short and inadequate synopsis The MC is forced to be part of a system where he transmigrates into different worlds as the abused shou to help them get revenge on the “scum gong” by accumulating regret points. Every arc is so unique and interesting and the wrap fits beautifully with the arcs and helps with continuity.
🗑️World hopping/quick transmigration with 10 arcs (and of course a main wrapper story) 🗑️Fascinating characters-you really care about each shou and their story 🗑️Arcs are all so different! Supernatural, ancient/cultivation, ABO, AI/new humans, mecha, apocalypse, unlimited flow, PUBG, etc 🗑️ Tough themes. All the shous have been abused in some way and died so…lots of TW. I’ll list at the end to avoid spoilers 🗑️ Slow burn The romance/relationship part of this book is just so special but do not expect any 🌶️ 🗑️CP has incredible chemistry- both are smart and complement each other so well.
What I loved about this novel: ❤️The way the ML adores the MC ❤️Multiple love stories within a love story with multiple happy endings but these HE are hard earned ❤️Really had no idea how it was going to come together until the last few chapters ❤️Power couple who work together ❤️Each arc had its own world, society, culture, etc- I was never bored except for one arc I felt dragged a tiny bit (arc 5 which was unlimited flow- similar to an escape room which is not my favorite) ❤️Perfect amount of humor amidst all the despair ❤️MC does not play “god”. He allows the host to have a role. And it’s to him, it’s not just about revenge, he also helps the host in other ways
I will be MTLing the 13 extras because I’m so excited to see them go back to visit the previous worlds and cannot wait years for Hai Tang to publish all 9 books
This novel definitely has some flaws 👹The MC might be a bit OP 👹 The main story needed a little bit more developing/world building 👹 Some arcs could be a little shorter
Hai Tang Books will be publishing the novel in English but the two FTs are still up until preorders go on sale (maybe end of July?). Per KK Translates, the publisher requested the extras not be translated but they will be included in their books so that will be something to look forward to 💜 Chrysanthemum Garden has chapters 1-188 and KK translates has 188-270 (password protected with proof of purchase).
Trigger warnings (the premise of this book is helping an abused shou get revenge so there are a lot!) 🏴Emotional abuse 🏴 Domestic violence 🏴 Child abuse/neglect 🏴 Sexual abuse (including minors-not descriptive but multiple mentions) 🏴 Suicide 🏴 Self harm 🏴 Racism 🏴 Torture

The only other unlimited flow/QT/world hopping books I’ve read are Global Examination, Mist, and Kaleidoscope of Death and I think this might end up being my favorite.
What a beautiful story of stories inside our main story. I loved the different arcs. Though, if I’m honest, one arc was my least favourite but that’s okay when you take into account the fact that the reader was following along our MC and ML for ten transmigrations (so they can’t be all equally exciting).
Some of my favourite arcs were:
- The ice skating one, because I loved who ended up with whom and how Chi Xiaochi managed to get revenge on the scum gong. - The SciFi ABO world. It was just too precious how the idiot Alpha (he was not that much of a scum gong tbh) learned to be better and more considerate of others. I also loved that the left behind MC played a further role in the plot. - The apocalypse setting. Idk about you, but Lou Ge becoming Boss Coal was the best thing ever. - The fictive historical setting (early Song Dynasty?) was fun because of both princes around our MC. - The Battle Royale setting. Yes, it was a rough one regarding gore and violence but I loved its message about discrimination. I also found it super interesting because of the split personality of its MC. - The perfect one. Hardest and at the same time easiest challenge was left for last.
How the story ended was also nearly perfect for me. The HEA was hard earned and of course our guys changed over time and I loved how one could see their personal progress but also how they stayed true to their core principles.
Let’s hope Hai Tang doesn’t mess up the official translation.
@Stacie Thanks a lot for the recommendation and your help while reading!
(I couldn't find the English translation for this sorry)
I knew that DPUBFTB was good, but I didn't expect it to be this good. I can't even begin to explain the roller-coaster-like emotions I had when I read this, it's one of those things which you have to experience yourself to truly understand. I feel like I've aged by decades due to following Chi Xiaochi and Lou Ying's journey. I'm so upset because I no longer follow them, but at the same time, I'm reassured by the fact that their journey together will still continue indefinitely, just in a place far from here.
“——He knew that there was someone waiting for him. And this knowledge let him know that he still had consciousness, know that he wasn’t just a pile of data, that he was once a person. ”
This was unlike any other QT I've read, whether it's the lifelike characters or masterful plot, there's just something about this novel that tugs at my heartstrings and keeps me at the edge of my seat. There wasn't a single arc I disliked, all the backstories were so well written I was genuinely shocked. I loved how the author delved into the world-setting of each arc and wrote about the original character's feelings in great detail, without dismissing them for being mere cannon fodder (also I loved that live stream extra that the author posted on weibo, it was so chaotic and fun with all the characters in the same house, mtling it was so worth it).
“This kind of love, this kind of longing, seemed to be seeping out of his bones, as if it was written into his programming, an unalterable string of code.
This string of code said, 061 was born to love Chi Xiaochi. ”
In addition, the way the main plot was seamlessly weaved into each of the sub-plots was just chefs kiss, I was rendered speechless by the flawless transitions (usually in the form of dialogue between Chi Xiaochi and a character, or an internal monologue). On that note, I'm equally awed by the sheer character of Chi Xiaochi. I can't even begin to imagine how painful those teenage years were for him, and how, despite his suffering, he could still maintain the kindness that he was taught (of course, not if others harmed him first) and grew up into such an inspiring and amazing person. Likewise, Lou Ying is not just some basic male lead, he is also a complex character with his own set of challenges and life-like emotions. Also, shout out to 089 (the best dad), 023 (the best mum) and 009 (the best foodie).
'The manager was curious, “July? Were you born in July?”
Chi Xiaochi tilted his head slightly and answered, “No, I died in July.” ' (I couldn't fit this anywhere so I'm shamelessly inserting it here because this quote almost made me cry so y'all can feel the pain too ಥ﹏ಥ)
⚠️ Next, I'm going to rate each arc individually and share some of my thoughts so spoilers below, you have been warned!!⚠️ . . . . . . . . .
Genius Cannonfodder's Counterattack Record - 8/10 This was a good start to the novel, Cheng Yuan's backstory actually made tear up a bit when I read the manhua a year or two ago (of course it stopped uploading soon after though :( )
Getting Rid of that Bigshot - 7/10 I did enjoy this one but it wasn't anything special, Help was adorable though and I can't believe Shen Changqing ended up with the lawyer haha
Love Song on Ice - 10/10 This was my favourite arc omg Dong Ge and He Changsheng are so cute and this actually got me into figure skating again (last time was Yuri on Ice 5 years back haha). I actually started watching some of the Olympic clips from a couple years ago and they're just so cool. I hope to aspire to be like them one day, passionately doing what I want and giving my all even if I don't succeed. Like Yuzuru Hanyu said: "Effort will lie but it will not be in vain". Unfortunately, I can't begin skating now due to certain circumstances and I just feel so ashamed because I could of done it earlier if I wasn't so cowardly, but it is something that I want to start in the future because I don't want to leave any regrets behind. Sorry, that was a bit of a tangent, but I just wanted to get it off my chest.
I Hear I'm a Battle God - 8/10 This was quite cool and definitely not your typical ABO. I'm quite glad that Ji Zuoshan remained single (sorry that's kinda cruel of me to say) because he genuinely doesn't need a significant other. He has friends and family and the stars in the sky, he won't ever be lonely.
The Cycle of Karma, What Goes Around Comes Around - 9/10 I am an avid fan of UF/IF so I unsurprising loved this arc. The Song Chunyang and Xi Lou CP is just so fragrant and sweet and the revenge was satisfying. I just wish it was longer.
Raising a Big Cat in the Apocalypse - 7/10 I'm not a fan of apocalypse type arcs in general and I don't like the ML in this one, however, Lou Ying as Boss Coal was just soooooo cute so I gave it an extra star
System vs System - 8/10 Okay, but Ye Jiming turned out to be the shou!? I was genuinely shocked because Duan Shujue was so innocent, but I guess it does make sense. This arc is were Lou Ying's identity was revealed so yayyyyyyyy insert celebration.jpg
The Domineering General and Charming Military Advisor - 7/10 There was a bit too much military strategy in this arc so I kinda just pretended to nod along as if my last two brain cells actually knew what was happening. The CP here was cute too.
Battle Royale: PUBG - 9/10 I looked at the title I thought that this a fluffy e-sports arc, oh how wrong I was. But it was surprisingly good, so whatever hehe. After reading Supernatural Movie Actor App I also realised that I totally dig it when people fall in love with their other personality so >///< *cough cough*
Perfect New World - 10/10 A fitting conclusion for a masterpiece. The ins and outs of Chi Xiaochi and Lou Ying's past almost killed me. The ending for that wicked pedo was deserved, justice will always prevail (probably not always but don't be pessimistic and let me have my moment). I don't want to part with Chi Xiaochi and Lou Ying so soon, they gave me a glimmer of hope in this dark world and left me with a gaping wound in my heart. I will definitely not forget about this journey I had with them any time soon.
I spent like 3 hours writing this shtty review so if you read this till the end then can I please (with a cherry on top) get a like? TwT ——————————————————————————— I love this so much, rtc
English title: don't pick up boyfriends from the trash bin
I can't wait for the official English translations to come. I'd been waiting to read the for a while now but didn't realize the main story is translated already.
This was indeed an amazing qt novel. The wrapper story was great and perfectly solved the mystery of the system and the mc/ml.
Each of the arcs are so unique. They might lean on the typical tropes - familiar and comforting - but then the author inserts some interesting twists that just hook the reader into the world. I felt all the characters were rich and well developed. I love how each arc's resolution is not a one-size-fits-all and the Mc seriously considers what would be the best outcome for the host.
More than that, there's so much that the Mc deals with, and it's very interesting to think about his world view. I don't always agree with his philosophy, but I have to admit they're logical and valid based on the situation.
I especially like the speculation on how people like to act as God when they know the storyline, not really considering how a real person would feel or act. I think this criticism even applies to people spectating on reality TV shows, or celebrity news, or other qt novels. That's part of the appeal of these qt novels - you know who is good, bad, and redeemable. You know who to root for and how the main characters should act. But in real life, it's all a muddle and people can only do the best they can with the limited information they have. They don't know whether their story will have a happy or bad ending and whether the people they trust will prove reliable or a disappointment. They also don't know how pivotal an otherwise ordinary action might prove to be.
I think the author proves this point well when the Mc has to navigate a world without the script. The caution and the second guessing in his actions were stifling and would ultimately result in a perpetually suspicious and unhappy life.
The caution the Mc takes when considering if he can accept the ml's love shows just how brave some of the original mc's in the arc's were. Ultimately, love is a high risk, high reward white elephant. Overthinking it can cause people to miss out, but underthinking it can also hurt.
I started off really enjoying this novel. The MC was amazing, the system was lovely and the plot was strong and kept me engaged… until I hit the 6th arc.
Then everything went to shit.
The story just starts to drag… the plot loses its captivating nuances and I started skimming. The slow romance goes beyond slow-burn. It’s excruciatingly non-existent even though we are already at the second last arc.
I honestly felt as if I’d been teased to the point of blue balls only to have my partner turn around and fall asleep. That imagery should indicate just how irritated I was.
I’m at the point now where I couldn’t care what happens to the leads. I wanted some romance at least by the 6th arc but yet I got nothing.
Overall it started off strong and really did give me hope that it would be a QT novel like QWFOD which I loved. This was just a let down as most QT novels are for me.
This novel is pretty long with only 10 arcs (an average number amongst QT genre) but each arc was explored pretty in-depth with excellent world building. We have the standard Apocalypse / Xuanxia arc but there also some pretty unique arcs. While some didn't have like a wholesome Happy Ending it was still pretty satisfactory considering the background and storyline.
Really loved MC and ML interactions and all the background and angst were woven in and explained so perfectly. I really liked alot of the characters written in!!! omggg!
Although it could also be the state of my mind when reading, I have to say that the TW for this is pretty.. intense(?). most of the storylines are quite depressing and would be pretty guaranteed to make readers feel so... angered (?). When reading, I was quite emotionally invested.
This QT novel is pretty unique actually and it's really written quite well.
What a ride. Chi Xiaochi is a witty and savvy protagonist, and his system 061 is a cutie pie. I was not really familiar with the quick transmigration genre before reading this novel, but it looks quite well executed here. I really enjoyed 7/10 arcs, and I can't even say the 3 I didn't vibe with were really that bad. This seems like a type o story that can go wrong very easily, but the author made it fresh and exciting with each new arc.
I would say that the main thing holding my rating back is the (lack of) world building and the abuse of deus ex machina plot devices. I know the story isn't that serious and most of the time I found it more amusing rather than irritating, but still... there was A LOT of that. Just know that if I took a tequila shot every time I thought "well, that's convenient" while reading this novel, I'd be in an alcoholic coma by the second arc.
This novel is a sweet darling of the danmei reading community, so I feel a little bad giving it a lower rating. I did enjoy it a lot and I do believe it's worth getting through all the 270+13 extra lengthy chapters. It may not check all the boxes of what I consider a god-tier novel to be, but it was a lot of fun.
4.5/5! Wow!!!! I enjoyed this quite a bit. I liked how the author decided to write a story subverting the typical scum gong-wife chasing genre. Not that I don’t enjoy some trash boyfriend stories now and then, but it was really refreshing to see the genre conventions deconstructed. The ice skating arc is probably my favorite. The concept of the original host actually still being inside their body while someone takes over their life is so fascinating!! All the arcs were pretty well thought out and quite a few of them made me cry if I’m being honest. At times it is very much a wish-fulfilling revenge power fantasy, but at its heart, Don’t Pick Up Boyfriends From the Trash Bin is actually about love and healing. That’s so cheesy to say, but the novel is actually so tender in its narrative of supporting these people to find a way for them to live, and the final arc is about resolving the big plot line, yes, but it’s also about healing childhood trauma… Lou Ying and Chi Xiaochi’s dynamic is also sweet and cute. I enjoyed them together and look forward to seeing their lives in the extras when the official english translation comes out :)
3.75⭐ Long but steady journey of badass protagonist conquering different worlds and environment and his trusty system pal accompanying him. It was a bit repetitive at times but the author did a great job of making each world unique and thinking up creative ways to defeat the scum-gongs.
English title - Don't pick up boyfriends from trashbin.
Read it in 2021 . There was an arc involving ghosts and spirits and I was so confused of what was going on and lost interest after several attempts to try to understand.
Each arc is long and can be a separate book by themselves ... I loved some of them but it became repetitive after . The romance is non existent but hey the plot makes up for it .
Also, it's one of my first few danmeis and I am still amazed at how the author wrote so many interesting arcs ... this and Heavens official blessings are the ones that have several subplots and they did a good job at that.
Mundo 1: The Genius Cannon Fodder's Counterattack. Mundo 2: Kill that Boss. Mundo 3: Love Song on Ice.

Chi Xiaochi dijo: "Antes he amado a alguien.
