Vet Shop Boys #1

Got Me Hoping

Rate this book
It's just a one-night stand, they said. It'll be simple, no-strings fun, they said. They. Lied.

I'm done with love and being broken-hearted. The only dogs I want to deal with are the ones I treat in the veterinary clinic I work at.

But at thirty-four, having my first one-night stand can't hurt. Right? The rules are pretty simple.

1. Don't spend the night.
2. Don't see him again.
3. Don't share anything personal.
4. Don't fall in love with him.

But when Haze, the guy I spent a blazing hot night with and haven't been able to forget about, shows up as our new receptionist, the rules fly out the window.

There's no way one night could lead to anything more. So why has Haze got me hoping this might just last?

Got Me Hoping is book 1 in the Vet Shop Boys series and can be read as a stand-alone. Expect plenty of humor, found family, an adorable golden retriever, a foul-mouthed parrot, a whole new way of getting clean (as well as very, very dirty) and a heartwarming happily ever after!

[3.3] cute, low angst romance between a vet (with the cutest golden retriever doge *bark*) and his first one-night stand.

ngl i was iffy about Haze at the beginning because how many times can a man boast about his "spectacular cock" in two chapters before it gets old (let's be honest, those words should never be coming out of anyone's mouth, period LMAO), but turns out i had a lot more in common with the guy than i ever expected. i, too, am in my quarter life crisis of not knowing what i want to do with my life, with my hard-earned degree now collecting dust after moving across the globe immediately post-graduation because physically running away from problems is totally a thing 😉

ANYWHO I GET YOU HAZE!!! (although please stop giggling because i swear i counted at least 15 of them and i have the same visceral reaction to that word as some people do with "moist" 🤣)

the dialogue did at times feel stilted to me personally, but this was still an enjoyable read overall, and i'll probably be picking up the others in the future when i'm in the mood for another casual read.

now repeat after me: give Gus his HEA!!!

Noah never had a one-night-stand. When his buddies goad him about it and the opportunity arises he hooks up with Haze.

A one-night-stands that leads to more - I like this trope and I liked the characters.

At 40% in I would have given it a 4 star rating for sweet and cute and swoon worthy. And it should just have ended right there, tack a little epilogue on and go home-free with the rating.

But then. Then there is just artificial drama while being really boring. And after two thirds of the book I just can not take it anymore, sorry.

4.5 stars. First: this is a wonderfully written story with two kind, engaging and lovable characters, second: my heart did strange things watching them, third: I fell in love with this fun, emotional rollercoaster Read it!

Noah is thirty-four, for the last five years, he’s working for the veterinary clinic Vet Shop Boys.
He never had a one-night stand in his life, now he will have one for the very first time. His colleague slash friends gave him good advice:

“Don’t spend the night. Don’t see him again. Don’t share anything personal. Don’t fall in love with him. That’s it. Stick to these four rules, and you’re golden.”

Easy peasy.

Haze is twenty-nine and within a few days, he will head over to London for the next six months. After ‘accidentally’ colliding with Noah at a bar, he’s the lucky one who will go home with Noah for a one-night stand. They click wonderfully, emotionally and physically. They have a hot passionate night, one night to be exact. Now Haze is gone and Noah is left with the memories. So sad. They were more than hot together.

Imagine the surprise on Noah’s face when he meets the new receptionist, yes Haze!
What follows is a more than wonderful (re)connection, something beautiful is growing. The question is, will Haze stay or will he leave like Noah’s previous guys did?

With Noah excelling as a vet, Haze has an amazing specialty, gosh I loved it all so hard, I won’t spoil!
Both men have an impressive background story to tell, with some emotional highlights. There is no unnecessary drama, it feels all amazing naturally.
I loved it when both points of view are to enjoy. It’s a super romantic story. There’s a lot of fun, with cheeky comments, friendly, flirty, arousing and hot, and at times deeply serious! There are sweet animals, even sweeter friends, and the sweetest… nope, not gonna tell.
Noah and Haze’s personalities are beautifully layered and developed. From the first moment I met them, I felt instantly engaged and involved.
This story had the perfect combination and the best ingredients for an attractive and enjoyable experience, and that it was!

It's a cute, sweet story with two very lovable guys, Haze and Noah. Noah's advice from his friends was doomed from the first date/one night stand, with Noah. It was only meant to be just that...a one-night stand...nothing more. By the next morning Rules #1 & #2 were out the window, #3 was hanging by a thread, and #4 was starting to not look too good either. Noah was trying to not let his heart get broken again so he thinks this is it...the end...on to the next guy...but then to his surprise he finds that his new receptionist at the vet clinic is.... you guessed it...none other than Noah. Noah's Dad almost tipped over the apple cart when his producer friend in California offered Noah the second in a movie he was making. I held my breathe on the that one. You knew from the first meeting that these two were meant to be together. The birthday party that Noah arranged for Haze was a tear producer. Hazes Mom had died just minutes after he was born, so birthdays were also a sad event for him...until Noah. I'm going to listen to book #2 next...maybe it will be just as good or even better...It's Got Me Hoping!

This was a really sweet story. In fact, in the end it got so sugary sweet I was afraid I’d get a toothache. Noah and Haze were very lovable characters. I also loved all the supporting characters and look forward to reading their stories.

Edited my review to 1 star. Author uses AI for their covers. Why redo the perfectly good, non-ai covers she had before? Gross!

3.5 stars- This was a sweet, simple read.. but the dialogue and just overall writing felt too generic and stilted. Like I was reading a summarizing of events, instead of the story itself. But I enjoyed the characters and will probably continue reading the series because I’m curious about what happened with Fulton and Gus.

Got Me Hoping is the first installment in the Vet Shop Boys series and it’s downright adorable. This is a sweet, sugar-coated story about two men finding friendship and love in all the right places. Noah has never been the sort of person who can enter into a relationship half-halfheartedly; when he’s in love, he’s all the way in, which means every breakup has left him bruised. His first boyfriend left for a job in South Africa. It was mutual, but they were both young and unable to promise forever, at that point. The second chose his mother over Noah, and the rejection still stings. And the third … well, the third cheated on him.

Got Me Hoping by Casey Cox is the first book in his new series, ‘Vet Shop Boys’. As far as I’m concerned, any book that features an affectionate, rambunctious Golden Retriever has to have redeeming value.

Buddy, an adorable, aging golden rescued by Noah Walters, a veterinarian and one of the principals in the story, is just such a dog.

And Buddy is only one of the wonderful animals in Got Me Hoping. There are dogs and cats galore at the Vet Shop Clinic, and even a bright red and blue parrot named Ruffles, whose elderly owner, Mrs. MacPherson, is embarrassed beyond belief by the X-rated commentary her bird has somehow mastered and loudly screeches every time they’re in the clinic waiting to be seen Dr. Walters.

Noah, Fulton, Chase, and Gus are all veterinarians working in the Vet Shop Clinic owned by Gus. While each of these man has issues - and each of others will likely have a book of his own - Got Me Hoping focuses on Noah.

Noah is 34-years old, single, and while he’s had unsuccessful relationships over the years, has never had a one-night stand.

While out drinking with his colleagues one evening, he admits to that fact and is immediately challenged to have one. Fulton tells him the four absolute rules that have to be followed with a one night stand:

Don’t spend the night.
Don’t see him again.
Don’t share anything personal.
Don’t fall in love with him.

Enter Haze Adams, a hunky 29-year old aspiring actor who also enjoys creating designer fragranced soaps. You can guess what comes next.

Got Me Hoping starts slowly, then picks up with the wonderful mix of colorful supporting characters Cox has created to surround Haze and Noah, and the often funny situations in which they find themselves. But, even with its HEA conclusion for Haze and Noah, the novel left too many loose ends. Some, I assume, like the outcome of a frivolous law suit against Gus, will be revealed in subsequent books in the series, others are just forgotten.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest review.

Za epilog obniżam ocenę z 3 na 2 gwiazdki. Moje zęby potrzebują wizyty u stomatologa z powodu stężenia cukru, a mózg resetu z powodu idiotyzmu. I nie, nie kupuję wymiany zdań złożonych w trakcie seksu, chyba że to bardzo zły seks. Uch.

Do epilogu historia weszła mi w miarę gładko - typowa opowiastka pisana dla uciechy kobiet, z ekstremalnie słodkimi bohaterami, często stanowczo zbyt łzawa. Cała powieść to ciepłe kluski z nadmiernie liżącym psem i Beyonce w tle, zakończona kiepskim epilogiem.

I received this book from Gay Romance Reviews Tours in exchange of an honest review.

I just had to read this book and I am delighted I was chosen to read an ARC. This book was just so swoony and sexy and oh hey, also no fucking drama at the end of the book which seems to be a staple for romance novels these days.

Meet Noah, a sweet guy who works as a vet and never had a one-night stand. But that is about to change and that is how our story starts! I just love how Noah and Haze met up and how they tried to keep to those rules set by Noah’s (wise) colleague but definitely breaking them all the time. XD Then again, I would also not be able to resist a hot guy, especially if said hot guy accidentally starts to work at my place after he left for another country for 6 months. Hello, that is just fate speaking now! They made such a wonderful and sweet couple and I was definitely rooting for them to get together for reals. I mean, these two had chemistry and I just love how supportive each one was of the other. Especially Noah with Haze. Later on especially when Haze has to make several big decisions. Yes, there is a bit of drama, but these guys picked it up and talked. I was so happy for Haze at the end. Go Haze!

The sex scenes are HOT HOT and SIZZLING and boy at times I just had to take a break. Haha. While I can handle sex scenes better than Mehsi of 10 years, it is still a bit WOW to read them. It feels so private, and at times just a bit too much. Haha. Don’t get me wrong, but reading about buttholes being licked is still a bit too heavy for this girl.

There are tons of funny scenes featuring our characters and also their friends. Including fun scenes with Haze’s best friend and roommate who is doing cam porn and has some plans with a bad batch of soap (I quickly understood what was up but Haze… well he took a bit longer XD). I also definitely love the other characters in the book, the boss (though I wanted to hug him at one time, then again, I knew that was going to happen given the scene early in the book), the other friends of Noah. They are such a fun bunch of guys and I would love a story about them. I also wouldn’t mind a short novella about Haze’s aunt. She is such a great character!

I also love that vets and soap-making are such big things in this book. It is not often that you read about those things in books. And definitely not together.

I cannot wait to see what is next in this series. I am definitely in! Give me more Vet Shop Boys (love the name).

This one was a cute, easy afternoon's read. The storyline was entertaining.

I enjoyed Noah and Haze getting to know each other and I liked the progress of the relationship, which started as a one night stand and then saw them trying to navigate their mutual attraction into what it was after they meet again 6 months down the track.

I liked that Haze didn't know what he wanted to do with his life as I can totally relate, Noah's acceptance of this was well done.

My issues come from the writing style, it just didn't captivate me. I'm happy reading light fluffy books but I need it to travel smoothly and this didn't. It threw in some humorous moments, but that also didn't come across as funny to me as it was meant to, it just felt like it was trying too hard.

I'll still reads the next one as I want to know what happens with the other side characters

Got Me Hoping is a book if you enjoy lighthearted, humorous, and hopeful romances with a touch of kink and a strong focus on relationships. I enjoyed Noah's communication with Haze; they were open to discussing anything and finding solutions for their problems. I haven't read many MM romances, and even though there are a lot of open-door scenes and some of them explicit, it was too much for me. I am not a prude; I had the same feelings with Icebreaker by Hannah Grace, Even though the characters in Got Me Hoping are older in their 30s. On the other hand, I appreciate that Casey Cox didn't have a third-act break-up between Haze & Noah.
I also appreciated the humor of the main and secondary characters. There were many heartwarming moments, and of course, there was a happily ever after.

This is an extremely sweet book, with adorable characters and the wettest dog ever :D

Main characters decide to have a one night stand, but the universe just won't stand for it (stand, get it?). They meet again and discover that they both feel this true connection that unites them and makes then all..tingly and happy. This story is totally "rot your teeth" sweet. It is adorable, sweet and funny, and emotional at the same time.

3.5 stars - Cute and sweet. Low angst. Completely forgettable but easy to read and has some funny moments. Not a fan of the giggling and occasional coo-ing. I enjoyed the vet setting and the group of side characters are interesting. This was too sugary sweet for me to really love it but now I’m hooked on finding out what happens to the side characters.

This was a very sweet, fast read.

I enjoyed the one night stand, then how their relationship developed when they came back to each other. Was not a fan of how Haze kept saying he had a spectacular cock, it was just funny after a while that he kept saying that about himself. Luckily it only happened in that one scene.

I enjoyed it, will continue with the series.

Fulton's rules for having a successful one night stand:

"First, set your expectations to low."

"Okay"

"Once you've done that...lower them again."

"Geez, you're really selling it."

This was a sweet and super low angst book about an adorable vet named Noah and his single attempt at a one night stand. I loved that his colleagues/friends were each full of fun advice for Noah's first attempt. The found family he has is adorable and I loved getting to know a little about each of the vets at Vet Shop Boys. Noah is also a blusher which I just adore, and in fact so did the other MC Haze. The two of them were just too cute for words.

After learning that he was Noah's first casual encounter ever, Haze makes it his mission for it to be one of the best. The man really does go all out. It was really sweet and I liked how kind he was, always checking in with Noah to make sure everything was alright. Some people have actual partners who aren't as caring as Haze was with Noah. Fulton's one night stand rules are already broken after their first night, however Haze is leaving for a 6 month hiatus so both agree the next morning on goodbye.

During those 6 months neither man has forgotten the other, but since they never exchanged personal info such as jobs or cell numbers, there is little they can do about it. Then comes the fun part. Noah goes into work one day and is introduced to the new admin of the vet practice. This new admin, just so happens to be Haze. Talk about serendipity!

I liked how in this book both Haze and Noah are pretty good at communicating. When one has an issue, they think it through, and then ask the other to talk about it. It was very mature and I appreciated that instead of straying into drama territory. I also liked how they were both total sweethearts. Usual one of the MCs tends to be the stand out sweetie, but here both of them were just so thoughtful with each other. It was a nice change.

The next book is going to be Fulton's. There was a bit of a teaser at the end about Fulton's supposed baggage, but I honestly don't have the slightest clue on where to go with the hint we were given. I guess I'll just have to read it to find out!

Haze and Noah spend a wonderful night together but the morning comes and they continue with their separate lives never expecting to meet again. But their paths unexpectedly cross 6 months later and they decide to explore if there can be more between them. The rest is the story of Haze and Noah building relationships and falling in love surrounded by family, great group of friends and adorable animals. There is no artificial drama or angst, just some real life challenges and choices to make. Sweet easy one time read, nothing bad but nothing to stand out either.

Got Me Hoping was a wonderful, low-angst feel good story that left me feeling lighter after having read it. It’s sweet without being overly so, and hot and sensual without being excessively erotic. It was the perfect balance, and the kind of story I needed to act as a reset after an intense book just before it.

Noah and Haze are perfect together. They are the cliché of two interlocking puzzle pieces but without it feeling stereotypical. The chemistry they had together was exceptional, both physically and emotionally. After that first night and then not seeing each other until Haze pops up at the vet office, everything from that point forward is relationship development and settling into their lives together while also getting to know more about the supporting characters.

Speaking of those supporting characters—I found myself interested enough that I’ll definitely be picking up the rest of the series as it releases. They each had their own well-formed personalities that drew me to them so that I want to see all of them with their own happily ever afters.

There are no huge drama moments for Noah and Haze, just plenty to leave me with a smile. That has me giving Got Me Hoping 4.5 stars, and I’d absolutely recommend this to any M/M romance fan who is looking for something on the lighter side. This story is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content (Noah and Haze are SO good together!).

Well, I guess when you decide to read a book solely because someone told you one of the MCs could come from nipple play, your expectations can't be too high. One of the MCs could indeed come just from nipple play. There was also an absolute fuck ton of rimming. So, high five for the inclusion of sex acts that I enjoy but aren't necessarily in every smutty book I read.

The problem was that the writing in this was just... not good. It was super simplistic and a little cheesy. Occasional unnatural feeling dialogue too. The plot and characters were fine and if this had been better written, it might have even been good. Maybe. I liked both of the MCs, the progression of their relationship, the good communication, and the side characters were ok. But I was bored - even with those banging sex acts. In fact the sex was, somehow, kind of boring too. How do you make nipple piercings and vibrating clamps boring? How do you make the fact that the top's tongue has basically made the bottom's ass its second home boring? Rude. Might be the last time I choose a book based on the promise of nipple orgasms. Sigh.

Wow this is such a fun and frisky read! Noah and Haze are at slightly different points in their lives but they balance each other so well! I really adored both of them and was routing for them from the minute they bumped into each other! Having this story start out with Noah and his other Vet friends playing a game of "Never Have I Ever? "is so fresh and silly it just pulls you right into loving all of these characters! The way the one stand unfolds is unique and sensually sweet. This story has a perfect blend of banter, emotions, steamy times, friends and drama!!! Oh and Adorable dog alert of course!! I received an ARC of this book I really recommend this fun read and I am looking forward to more the other guy's romances!

This was a pretty good start to the series. Noah and Haze are very likable, Noah's coworkers are fun and interesting and I'm looking forward to reading more about them.

Haze and Noah started off as a one-night-stand that never felt like that and when they meet again 6 months later, they start dating. While they did things backwards, they were just so well-suited for one another. Noah was a sweetheart and Haze was so down-to-earth and relatable that I couldn't help but root for them.

Got Me Hoping was fairly low-angst, very steamy and light and fun and entertaining. And while there were too many sex scenes for me, I have no trouble recommending it.

I picture Noah as cute and adorable twink but damn, I'm so wrong! LOL. He's muscular, his arms are huge and I guess he's like a bodybuilder meanwhile Haze is taller and muscular but not that big. One real life couple comes to mind~~ *smirk*

This book is full of fun with 2 lovable MCs. Haze a conceited bastard, like to bragging about his d*ck. LOL. Noah, a guy who never have an ONS and already in dry spell for 2 years.

THIS IS GREAT!!!

WOW!!! This is an AMAZING beginning of a series. VET SHOP BOYS Book 1 is a really fantastic way to set you on a new path. Noah is part of a veterinary clinic owned with friends. Haze is slightly adrift. Still trying to find his niche. They meet on a one night stand. CASEY COX has a great way of weaving a story. This is a series, I'm going to thoroughly enjoy. Come join the fun. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!
