3.5 ⭐️ - It did take me some time to get into this book and I don’t think I ever completely got into it but it was a chilling adventure and story. This book was very complex in that they’re was a lot going on and so many connections. The ending of the book is what really got me hooked and interested in the story because everything started making sense and I was just in complete shock. I would never have imagined this ending or this outcome happening. I had theories mid way through but they were proven wrong. But first book I finished during my horrible reading slump! - Also love the short chapters!!!!
Avoided reading this for so long due to the mixed reviews, but really enjoyed it. Not quite as good as The Silent Patient, but still keeps you guessing, with a solid twist I didn’t see coming. The short chapters make this an easy read! Also love how Michaelides interweaves clever references to SP in the story line.
i really enjoyed the concept of this book & i thought it was super interesting how it connected to the silent patient. i felt a bit confused at times but that’s probably just bc i kept forgetting where i’d left off and had to go back. THE ENDING THO. tf??? i thought i was so clever bc i half figured it out but no WAY did i ever expect that. i also just love his books because of how much he includes information on the psychological aspect of the characters & the driving forces behind their actions. definitely recommend if you’re looking for a good thriller.
A haunting story of love, loss… and murder. The Maidens is a gorgeous, nail bitting, all consuming sophomore endeavor by Alex Michaelides. After reading his first novel, The Silent Patient, I was convinced it was to be topped by none, and wrote every book off as inferior, but the Maidens proved me horribly wrong.
The twist ending is even more ludicrous because the writing style is so choppy. This is a poor man’s The Secret History where the author latches onto Cambridge and Greek mythology to give it some highbrow flair but fails miserably.
I choose this book because The silent patient. Is was intriguing as his previous book. Its was psychology thriller trying to who the murdered. He did know disappointed.
I don’t know. I enjoyed The Silent Patient so I thought I would give this a try. It is somewhat enjoyable but the main character is painfully naive, the twist is just ok, and the ending is unsatisfying. Could have been a two star but I am a nice guy.
3.5 stars. I listened to the audiobook which was very entertaining but I agree with others, it’s a lesser version of A Secret History. I don’t know if I agree with the author’s choice of ending, it went off the rails a bit.
All of his books follow a similiar structure and at this point I think this is just the worst one I guess? I hate reading a book and then being like so why did I read this.
I originally felt pressured to give this 3 stars but then I realized how much I didn’t like it so 2.
4.5 maybe 5 stars. Some of the plot points didn’t make sense, and some of the men had no influence on the plot but were there anyways. I still loved the book though. I am concerned about the author and his relationship to men though. Hope he is ok.
