This is the second book in this duet and I do recommend reading them in order. Vincent and Kora’s story continues. After what happened, Vincent is out for revenge against Kora but when someone else wants her dead he is there to help. Fast-paced read with loads of drama, suspense and twists and turns. Great characters and an entertaining story. I liked it.

DARK & COMPELLING - HIGHLY RECOMMEND

His brother, Justin, had been gone for a week with no word, but the blaring music could be heard in the funeral home letting them know he was back. As Vincent looks through the house for his brother her finds a brochure, for the same prognosis that had killed their mother.

But, Justin decided to end it all and not put his brother through what they went through with their parents and he pushes in the plunger. That's when Vincent notices another thrown behind the toilet. Justin plans to overdose. Vincent runs for the bedroom and grabs a gun - he can't let his brother suffer through the nightmare of an overdose. So he pulls the trigger.

Kora's mother loved playing up the mother/daughter image. To the point of having her daughter wear the same outfit and hairstyle. It didn't matter that she was eighteen now. Now was the time to let her know she won a scholarship to a college in California. Her father, Sheriff Mike, had helped her with the application, even if she couldn't let her mother know.

But, of course, her mother would never allow her that freedom because she was never allowed any freedom. It was Halloween and tricker-treaters were in the flowershop getting candy. She had never been tricker-treating and yet here were kids ten years younger getting a freedom that her mother made sure she never enjoyed. Treating her like a rare flower that will die if not under her constant supervision.

She thought her dad would talk her mother into letting her go. When she didn't budge, Kora found out her dad's true feelings for her and why he was more interested in his job as sheriff. I needed air before she threw up and her father shouted for her to get out so she ran to the viewpoint across the street.

As she grabs the railing, she notices she's not alone.

Innocence & Ashes takes you to the beginning of Cruelty & Fire, giving you the full stories behind Justin's death and Kora's fight with her parents and then heads back to where their story ended in book one.

I loved this book! If you have triggers, this book isn't for you. It is very well written and the characters are wonderful in their insanity. Kora may not have been physically bound, but she had been imprisoned by her parents her whole life. Vincent's fascination with death began with the death of his parents, but took a darker turn after inheriting his uncle's funeral home.

This series is action packed and full of intrigue and suspense. It is full of torture, murders, corruption, betrayal, obsession and steamy hot sex. Vincent's only wish was to set Kora free and was willing to kill her to make it happen.

Audrey Rush writes about damaged, warped men where the heriones somehow find that one redeemable quality and she does an amazing job pulling it all together. I could not put this book down. The storyline is dark, but compelling. The characters came to life and I could fill the heat as it all came burning down. Great story!

Ok, so this is book 2 of the duet and just as Vincent and Kora are finding their own way in this unorthodox situationship in comes her Sheriff Dad and his trusty/shifty deputy Andrew to save the day. Korea doesn't dispute or stand up for Vincent as he's being arrested, so his desire to kill her and bury her in her already dug and marked grave is back in full force. In the beginning of this book we learn that Kora's family isn't the perfect little unit we assumed it to be, but that became evident in book 1; what we didn't know was how deep those imperfections ran. We also find out the entire story about the death of Vincent's brother. Aside from all of that, Shea is happy to have her daughter home and is even allowing her some freedom. Try as she might Kora's can't stay away from Vincent. She's willing to sacrifice everything to make sure he's out of jail, even making a deal with the devil. Vincent's desire to keep Kora safe puts him in the direct path of the Echo Killer and when Kora finds the identity of the killer, she's in greater danger than she realized.

This book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I know that Vincent and Kora's relationship was unorthodox, but I was rooting for them all along. The fact that Andrew was completely full of himself and just like her dad only made me dislike him more, but I knew that she didn't see him as anything more than a friend. Vincent was the only person who truly saw her and loved her enough to realize he couldn't cage her like her family had.

Innocence and Ashes is the second installment in The Art of Ruin Duet and must be read after book #1.
This is a simple story with simple protagonists, a beautifully created narrative about captivity and freedom in a more nature sense than physical itself, although there it is as well. The significance of the connection between Kora and Vincent was huge: two captive people in their own way that found a sliver of freedom when they were together. I loved some of the intricacies of this account: from their professional activities (very refreshing and original) to the strictness of the parents and that conspicuous servitude to the Sheriff and his position of power. At times, it made me feel like I was reading something from 60 or 70 years ago.
I really enjoyed the first book in the Duet and it was clear that things were not how they seemed
as well as the direction of the plot, but I was expecting some shock event from this final account: a twist of circumstances or a surprise or, at least, something more wrapped up concerning the motive. In what regards Vincent and Kora's relationsnship, I liked it a lot: it was strange, improbable, but a beautiful, pure and undiluted love. It was suposed to ruin.........it blossomed and healed, instead.
All in all a very good read!

The addition starts with the book cover….yeah…yeah…yeah don’t judge a book by its cover they say ….well we all do it and this one here it is the scratch to your itch or better yet the filling to your oreos! Speaking of filling…..wait, that’s for later. Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with!
Bad boy….check
Bod boy’s crazy brother/friend…check
Bad boy’s Kryptonie…check ….check and check
By the time you’ve figured out who is who, you’re already hooked, and you may as well give up the fight and prepare yourself for an all-nighter!
Can’t say I didn’t warn you.
This book is book two of The Art of Ruin Duet each book are connected so if you want to understand read book one first and then follow it up with book two it won’t be a waste of time. Kora and Vincent were broken people and captive but found freedom with each other. Vincent is crazy as a bed bug, but the truly evil ones are the sheriff, the captain and shea and the trouble they caused everyone around them. Vincent is out for revenge against Kora but yet he still love her and will stop at nothing to protect and keep her safe but will he be able to protect her or will what/who is after her get there before him and can they have some type of happiness?

Kora and Vincent's story concluding part. To start we learn more about the past events that put them on each others path. With Kora back in the arms of her family that had suffocated her life she finally sees the freedom in which Vincent had given her. Now Vincent's is suspect number 1 in the mysterious murders around town but only a deal can save him, a deal that comes at a price. With the killer still active, Vincent sets out to discover whose behind it, and he'll do anything to keep Kora safe. But with Kora torn over her loyality to her family and her growing feelings for Vincent will they get their HEA?
This story just got better and better, the suspense and mystery kept me glued to the pages guessing till the very end. Vincent and Koras characters are so well presented that you cant help but fall in love with Koras need for freedom and Vincent's twisted mind. Well written with a great story line, filled with suspense, violence, desires, and more!

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "INNOCENCE & ASHES" OMG!!!!! What a rollercoaster ride of dark twisted intense drama, secrets, lies, manipulation, intrigue, suspense, danger, dark erotic scenes, mystery, such an addicting story you can't put down.
Kora only wanted freedom, a life of her own to make her own decisions but her mother Shea controlled her every move her father Sherrif Mike was a complete A-hole.
Vincent taking her Captive in first book opened her eyes to the truth, to feel pain, surrender to desire, everything changes for them both he tries to save her from danger stalking her.
Kora doesn't know who she should be afraid of the person closest to her or the man she loves Vincent gave her gun told her she better be prepared up use it that she was in danger from Echo Killer.
I definitely recommend to get this on the edge of your seat gripping dark twisted read so much happens you can't put it down the shocking ending you didn't see coming, will Vincent & Kora get a HEA its a must read for sure it won't disappoint so well worth the read.

Love, Love, loved this book!!

This book 2 was the perfect book to finish off the duet. Couldn't have asked for more.

We got to see Vincent in all his glory, the good, the bad and the down right possessive guy and he was amazing. Couldn't get enough of his character.

It was also a book where Kora grew up in this book and it was fantastic to see. See blossomed so much and her confidence grew to say what she wanted to that was really fun to read. Even a big part of that was Vincent midway through this book she took off on her own and it was great.

The Author portrayed this relationship in the best possible way and I totally enjoyed their journey.

The story had its twist and turns and the good ole bad guys which just added to this story.

It was also great to see her Mum grow in this story as well as my thoughts of her in the first book were not that great so yay Mum!!

Overall, this was an enjoyable duet and thoroughly enjoyed. If finished on a high note thats for sure.

I loved the cover and blurb but after part one I needed part two! Vincent got himself stuck in part one and I needed to know how Kora handled it. She shocked me ..,,I had to admit!

What did I like? This part wasn’t as dark since it felt like Nora had the upper hand most of the book. Vincent was taking all the risks and I really loved him in the second half. His character was definitely different but just as endearing. I enjoyed the HEA ending.

Would I recommend or buy? What could have happened to earn my five star? Kora was a bit too naive too sheltered but polar opposite of Vincent. Maybe too many people were obsessed with her. Her mother’s obsession was a bit skewed. Irregardless I’d still have bought a copy, I’d recommend to people who like dark romance!

Audrey Rush does not disappoint.

After finishing the first book, I immediately downloaded the second book. No regrets.

Kora knows her father is corrupt, but she's not sure how far it goes. His deputy is being groomed as her future husband. Her mother has controlled every aspect of her life since birth. And yet, the only true freedom she's felt was locked in Vincent's basement at his mercy.

Vincent is being framed as the Echo killer, and he's pretty sure he knows who it really is. He's not ok with Kora making deals with her family to keep him safe. All that matters to him is that she's safe, even if that means death comes knocking.

This is a twisted tale of discovery and awakening, of love and redemption. Do yourself a favor: get both books.

Great end to this duet! The transformation hinted at in the first novel truly comes to life here as the characters continue to explore and question there own believes. Kora wants to hang on to the life she had and still move forward with the new sensations that Vincent has awakened her to. True transformation requires the destruction of who you were in order to become something else. The way Vincent and Kora affected each other in ways even they could not foresee makes there coming together intensely romantic. You MUST read Cruelty and Fire first, or this will not make any sense.

This book is, like the first one, an excellent piece of writing. The plotting and the characters continue to enthrall and horrify in approximately equal measure.

I knew early on who the villain was, but it is a deeper and more awful conspiracy than anyone knows at first. The solution to the problem is even more grisly than one could even imagine. Just go for it. In a way, the end is satisfying, but I certainly wondered how these two would manage in the "real" world and if their wounded souls would ever truly heal.

The concluding story to the first book Cruelty & Fire, and what a conclusion in my opinion this book was, I found it even better than the first book to find out what happens to Kora Nova her mum Shea and her dad Sheriff Mike, and of course the anti-hero Vincent whose a undertaker but is a bit of a brooding character.

This is a really dark read but very fascinating at the same time, I really liked these two books and so glad I could read them one after the other and not have to wait for this one to come out.

Innocence And ashes

This second part of the duet has more of the mystery resolution.  Even though I knew since book one who was the killer, I still wanted to read to see how it would all pan out.

We thought that Vincent was dark. Boy were we wrong,  there is much more darkness in Punica.

There were some things that I felt were left unanswered like the mom's obsession with her daughter and what/why her episodes.

It was good to see Vincent grow emotionally too.

An absolutely riveting read if you’re a fan of dark and twisted, stalking, desire, suspense and mystery.
This is the second book in The Art of Ruin duet and sees the conclusion of Vincent and Kora’s story. And what a story, a rollercoaster of emotions from start to finish, twists and turns at every juncture!
Overall, a great fast paced story with intense characters and an over the top entertaining storyline. Loved it!

This book explained so much as to why Vincent and Kora were the way they were and what their family life was like. I loved this book. I found it better then the first one and so much easier to get into. Vincent and Kora’s story is complete and the ending is perfect. They both learn to live and love. Vincent decides he loves her and to do this he needs to let her be the person she wants to be and if that means he can’t have her that is ok as long as Kora is happy and safe. Kora finds the truth and decides to do something about it. What do they do you ask. pick up the book and find out.

After the time she has spent with Vincent, Kora can’t get him out of her mind, so she makes a deal with her father to let Vincent go free.
But Vincent won’t let his flower escape from him so easily, also he wants to protect her from the Echo’s killer and her parents as well as the idiot Andrew.
Kora in this book surprises me bc she finds her voice and shows a totally unknown side of her.

“You stole my innocence from me,” she murmured. “Admit it.” “Oh, flower.” I forced a finger under her chin. “We both know that you were never that innocent.”

Unfortunately this just failed to deliver on the darkness front. Book one let me down and i was so hoping things picked up in this, the second book. The MFC just spoilt it for me, i admit i like my heroines to have a spark in them, to be a little fierce and strong, but she was just too weak. Vincent's character stayed true, but he still was not as dark as character as the blurb suggested. Such a shame because the overall plot was great!

Innocence & Ashes (book 2) by Audrey Rush

I loved the way this second book was written. It starts out telling you about before they met, and what they thought about each other. Then goes into what is happening after the first book, and what happens to everyone. I love the way Audrey Rush writes and have read a few of her books. I must say she is one of my favorite writers and she keeps her stories interesting. I think if you like a sexy dark romance, her books are for you. Hades and Persephone contemporary romance retelling.

While the murder mystery plot “twist” was obvious, the story itself is crazy af. FL’s mother has some real issues and FL enabling her is just as bad.

Fl & Ml relationship is toxic. But I did like their twisted F-up dynamic. Again this is a captive/captor romance, with stockholm syndrome.

TW/CW: Blood; Death; Drug abuse; Drug use; Fire/Fire injury; Gun violence; Injury/Injury detail; Mental illness; Murder; Physical abuse; Sexual content; Toxic relationship; Violence; ‘grooming’; political conflict

Creepy, dark, send shivers down your spine. Don't read this in the dark by yourself. Ms. Rush has outdone herself. What a duet. Vincent is not your typical psychopath, sociopath, whatever the name for him is. Sheriff Mike and Captain Andrew, and Shea were something out of a horror film. Eternally happy, Stepford family-like.

This guy does not do things by half....go big or go home. What a great conclusion to this duet. Lots of action and definitely some sweet moments (in a very stalkerish way). Really was the best ending, brings to mind - what goes around, comes around. If you like playing in the dark, this is definitely a duet for you.

Dark and Compelling

This book is dark, twisted and compelling. Vincent and Kora were great together. Their character development was beautifully written. It was great to see these two grow personally and together. The story line was well written. I figured out who the villain was pretty early in the book but was still intrigued by how everything played out. The ending was absolutely perfect. Kora and Vincent definitely deserved their HEA.

Amazing sequel! I cannot get enough of the volatile relationship between these two MCs. It's definitely not a book for everyone but if you love dark captive romance with some crazy twists then this your book! Her characters are beautifully written & you can't help but to root for them. Tons of surprise twists & turns! Dark thriller romance at its finest with plenty of spice! Check TWs cuz this story will for sure cross some lines!
