In the mafia world, she is a princess, and I'm going to steal her kingdom.
Midnight didn't choose this life, but she belongs to it.
I was once her guard, her protector. In truth, I was the snake in her garden. Now, I'm her captor.
Her brother took everything from me, my father, and my name. But the time has come to claim my legacy and snatch the power that was stolen from my family.
She can resist all she wants. She will soon discover who the real heir of this underworld truly is.
I will consume every inch of her body, and then her heart will follow…
As a teenager, Faye used to read at night with a flashlight underneath her bed covers. She fantasized of bad boys who stopped at nothing to capture the hearts and bodies of their women, and of equally strong heroines. Make no mistake, there are no damsels in distress in her world.
Her addiction is the “enemies to lovers” trope, and maybe that’s why when she first met her husband, their chemistry was just as sizzling as their disapproval of each other. But as in her novels, passion won, and now they live through their happily ever after.
By day, she is taking care of her household. By night, her shadow self emerges to satisfy her undisclosed desires. Literary and not.
This was a quick enjoyable read. The actual book is only 157 pages though, so more of a novella length. It's a shame because the plot had the potential to be fleshed out and the characters backgrounds and connection explored more. But never the less,, it was an entertaining read, and I think it's only the authors second book, so I'm guessing the stories will only improve in the series.
I'm interested to learn more about Leo and Midnight in the next book, so will be continuing on with that one. I gave this 3.5.
I love mafia books and a strong alpha male but I also love a strong female lead and this book has both. The steamy scenes in this book are seriously hot!!!! A red hot connection from the get go.
I really enjoyed the story and the push and pull for power between Caspian and Valeria both of them wanting to give in but not willing to make that first move.
My only negative is that I wish the book was longer, that the relationship was given more of a chance to develop. I have so many unanswered questions about Valeria's family who just seemed to a abandon her. I hope there is another book about the knights including Midnight and Leo.
Overall I really enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more from Faye Pierce
One of the things I noticed right off the bat is that this story reads like a police report. It's a series of statements all gathered together to make chapters.
The dialogue doesn't flow - even in the sentences of the characters. They also don't seem to have much to say to one another, their main statements are repeated, continually.
The thing is, the premise of this story is really good. It would easily be a great read. I'm not sure if this is an initial draft - which is what it reads like - or if enemies to lovers is a genre this author has trouble writing.
I do believe this could be so much better than what was presented here. This is 3.5 stars. I gave it 4 for encouragement to the author to revisit and revise.
I hate giving really rubbish reviews but this was awful 😫 I nearly DNF’ed but decided to stick it out because it did have potential. Im not sure why it’s labelled ‘dark’ when other mafia nothing is really dark in it. It was far too quick paced, so much was missing, like it just constantly jumped along. She said no to marrying him and then within 2 minutes she was agreeing and saying how hot he made her. It showed no relationship development between them but they were apparently crazy about each other by the end. Even the ‘best friend’ Leo had like no relationship, the relationship between them was very weird, to say he was the boss he basically ran to whatever Leo said.
Story started off bad and only got worse. I don't know what kind of vanilla snowflake thought this was dark romance. Light spanking and hair pulling with a little bit of commanding which she never fights does not make a dark romance. And for the love of God why the hell do they have so many God awful names for his dick including calling it his know, his real estate, stick of dynamite and many more. Like what are we 12? I couldn't even finish it was so bad I'd skip it.
He maybe a hard mafia boss but once he saw Valeria he knew he wanted her to be his, and with her father owing him so much he made it happen, she was a challenge but he knew that she would want him as much as he wanted her one day!
Valeria was head strong and didn't want to get married but she had to, but was going to make it as hard as she could for Caspian, making sure he knew that their marriage was one of convenience and not for love or sex, but when with him her body and mind told different stories.
I loved the story and the characters. the extended epilogue was perfect.
I enjoyed this book. Val is a spooky, strong willed vixen. She is not happy about this arrangement and has no bones about sharing this feeling with Caspar, her future husband. My only criticism is Caspian, the Don, seems a little weak as far as weapon handling
I storyline was your typical marriage to join families. I loved that Valerie had a backbone and truly was a badass. As for Caspian, well, he seemed like a dumbass. I felt like the story was rushed but honestly had a great baseline. I just felt like this story fell short.
