The History of Time and the Genesis of You

Rate this book
Could it be that we've started reading the Bible in the wrong place? Chapter 2 rather than chapter 1?

We seem to think the story begins with us (and our failure) and ends with us (and our choice). But maybe God's Word is the Beginning and End. Maybe the story begins in chapter 1... and even ends in chapter 1. Perhaps the deepest story is not the story of our failure but the story of God's success. Maybe the deepest story is not dependent on your story, but your story is dependent on the deepest story.

Peter Hiett argues that Genesis chapter 1 is the history of time--all time. And His story is the genesis of you. The deepest story is that God is making you in His image and will not fail. Even though we wrote ourselves out of the story; even though we cursed the Word, crucified the Plot and damned ourselves, even that is a story within The Story--The Father's Story: The History of Time and the Genesis of you.

Genesis 1:26 – "Then God said, 'Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.'"

Isaiah 55:11 – "So shall my Word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it."

Genesis 1:31 – "And God saw everything that he had made, and behold it was very good."

God will finish what He started. And everything, everything, everything, will be very good...including you.

Way too much repetitiveness and not making his points very clear. I believe he is on the right track, but following his train of thought is nigh impossible. The biggest fault I thought was connecting to the reader as if they were in front of him at a cocktail party or something. Focusing way too much on cute delivery instead of substantial data. I think the idea of the actual time of the Creation he presents is something that needs to be looked at closer, but explained way better than this book did.

DNF. The History of Time: The Genesis of You provides some fascinating food for thought, and I resonate so much with Hiett’s heart, but something about Hiett’s way of articulating his thoughts never works for me. He is too right-brained for me to personally follow (and this is coming from a rather right-brained person). That said, The History of Time contains an insightful premise about how we are all living in the sixth day of Creation.

Dynamic Page-Turner!

I see what Peter Hiett expresses as applied theology. This is not by any means a religious book. Instead, in a lively and relevant way, Peter portrays the applied truth of Christ Jesus as our very salvation. For anyone who is not dogmatically constrained by their religious dogma, what is expressed here is pneuma, Spirit, a breath of fresh air to fortify anyone who desires to understand Christ as their very life. I won't give spoilers, but for those who enjoy being blown away by God's truth spoken in love, be ready for the whammers sown throughout this engaging book!

This book is well thought and gives the reader a lot to think about and smile about. If you enjoy thinking outside the box (aka having a paradigm shift from what you always thought) and learning new things or perhaps affirming things you thought had always thought about, this book is for you.
