An annotated account of the Second American Revolution
Reid Scott is the last guy you'd expect to lead the Second American Revolution, the one that crushed the Family and swept in an entirely new form of government. As a Border Defense Linesman, Scott is tasked with sniping illegals as they try to penetrate the southern border. It's not that he's a fan of the Family. Frankly, he doesn’t give a damn about politics. He’s just trying to provide for his wife and daughter, doing a job suited for a former army grunt with few other skills besides killing people at long range.
But when society starts to collapse, he finds himself pulled into the movement. Before long, he and his team of revolutionaries are spearheading the uprising, battling a government hellbent on staying in power.
IVORY!! is a heart-pounding, explosive tour de force that casts an unforgiving eye on America's ills. It also serves as a well-researched roadmap for where we go from here.
Imagine if “1984” had been written by Stephen King, and you would have a sense of what IVORY!! has in store. The story is compelling: a fast-paced, chilling accounting of a dystopian future that is ripe for revolution. IVORY!! reads like a novel, but its journalistic use of footnotes enables the author to lay out the setting in great detail, and explain how America evolved into its current state. The ramifications of an unchecked abuse of power, the rise of nationalism, the government’s stream of lies feeding the state-run media, and the impacts of climate change are all too believable! While the book paints a somber picture of the future, the story was uplifting and the down-to-earth commentary of the narrator kept me smiling throughout. The writing is clever, the characters are well-developed, and the narrative is rich with imagery and emotion. I couldn’t put it down!
I keep flipping between 3 or 4 stars because although I liked the book, I didn't end up confidently loving it. The story follows Reid Scott, an average Joe, who quite unwillingly finds himself thrust out of his comfortable day job and is forced to decide whether he will join a revolutionary movement, or stay as one of the sheep under the leadership of 'the Family'.
The story is cleverly written and I found myself laughing out loud thanks to great banter between characters. The footnotes were like a two-in-one book deal, which at times would grind on my nerves as I felt like I was leaving the flow of the story to keep up with all the details.
That said, I like books that challenge the status quo and natural humour is always a winner. For those reasons I recommend the book and look forward to more works by the author.
A really interesting & enjoyable read! A fast paced action packed revolutionary tale! It gets you thinking! Is this where we are going, is it out current path! A good fun read! I will look for more by this writer & do recommend!
It was an eyeopener and probably a lot more realistic (in terms of political manoeuvres behind the scenes) than we might think. A kind of conspiracy theory on steroids. A great read.
