Writing is my bliss and I try to write every day. I started with two publishers who I learned a lot from. Now I self publish. I like the control it gives me over release dates and book covers.
Brianna is older than a typical mail order bride as she has spent years nursing her ailing mother. She is forced to look for a husband as she becomes homeless on the death of her mother, however she is very self - conscious about her age and weight. Cassidy is a widowed Rancher looking for a wife to keep him company, help him on the farm and start a new family. When Brianna arrives at Pine Crossing she is shocked how undeveloped it is, but is pleasantly surprised when Cassidy turns up on his appearance and friendliness. Things, naturally, do not go smoothly..... Again, as with books on this subject, I am always taken by the risk that these brides took by travelling across the country to meet their new husband and the men passing for someone to marry that they have no idea of whether they will get along, let alone fall in love. In this book they are both supported by their faith, which helps them through the hard times that they have to endure. I received an advance copy of this book from the author through Booksprout, however this did not influence my review and I purchased it on release.
The book is the second in a new series, Mail Order Brides of Pine Crossing, and can be read as a stand-alone. It is a clean, inspirational western with two Christian people, prayer, and Bible verses. Two people will be brought together, paired up by 'matchmakers,' yet this story is full of angst, mystery, suspense, range wars, and trouble.
Briana Foley will approach Aggie about helping her find a groom and becoming a mail-order bride. Since she was twelve, Briana has cared for her mother after her father's death, but now, she has nowhere to live and needs a new start. She will be matched with a man in Pine Crossing, in the Wyoming territory. Sadly, she is a woman with no confidence due to her mother's haranguing her all her life about her curvy figure.
"From the time I was twelve till now. You are freeing me from my old maid status. Yes, I'm twenty-four. I don't know if they told you I was that old."
Cassidy Doyle had his life planned. To settle the land, build a house, and raise sheep. He loved his late wife, Martha, but needs a wife and wants a family. Cassidy needs help and sends off for a mail-order bride.
The story's plot will have Briana traveling to Pine Crossing, but before they arrive, the stage has a wheel break, causing the driver and her to walk and fall in the mud. But that doesn't stop Cassidy from taking her home. He needs her help and is willing to teach her what responsibilities she will need to learn. It is a slow process of getting to know each other until the traveling preacher can come and marry them. Briana has never had kindness or compliments bestowed upon her and doesn't know how to accept them well when Cassidy attempts them. He is hurt that her curt reply is 'nice' about everything. These two have to work through nerves and learn to understand each other.
The story has the good, the bad, and the ugly of people; with angst, upsets, doubts, indecisions, and throw-in kinfolk and warring neighbors, Briana isn't afraid of hard work and learning new tasks; she puts everything she has into it. Cassidy has kept some secrets that, when they are revealed, leave Briana questioning more about her inadequacies. Then, they have threats from a neighboring rancher who is determined there won't be sheep. When things seem to be improving, Cassidy's brother Tom and his wife Carol, arrive and their perfidious behavior causes problems. Will trouble with kinfolks lead to dissension and drive a wedge between Cassidy and Briana? Cassidy tells her she needs to leave with all the risks and threats—will Briana leave and begin her life alone? Sometimes it takes a loss to realize what you have.
"It was almost funny her mother's prophecy of no man would ever want her had come true. Working at the ranch had made her physically stronger. Once she had her land, she'd be fine. She was used to her own company."
Briana left St Louis for Pine Crossing to become the mail order bride of Cassidy Doyle. He had found his farm to be to much work for him by himself and he was lonely over the long Wyoming winter, so he had decided to remarry. Cassidy had decided to raise sheep, since they required less full-time labor to handle than cattle not realizing the trouble it would cause on the range. Briana arrived with no problem but as for the sheep, threats began from the neighboring ranch owner's hired goons even before they had a chance to arrive. Cassidy and Briana soon found themselves in daily pattern that worked well for them. They grew closer daily until more problems came knocking on their door. Cassidy's brother and sister-in-law showed up wanting to stay. They did not care for Briana for some reason and they set out to make her life miserable. This was a true historical romance at it's finest with all kinds of elements thrown in to spice the story up to gainfully capture your interest from beginning to end.

While this is a part of a series, you don't have to read the prior one to fully understand and enjoy this one.
Beware that you will need some tissues. There were some scenes that I have a very hard time reading as the tears just would not stop! My emotions were all over the place with this one. I remember reading about the trouble between the cattle ranchers and the sheep ranchers. What an hard element to add to the extremely hard life that they already were living in.
I just adored Briana! She was the perfect leading lady. Her strength was awe-inspiring. Cassidy was so humanized with his kindness and caring nature. But his grief and how he struggled with it was the part that cemented how "human" the character was, flaws and all!
This book is written in a dual POV format. It is a clean romance with a layer of faith in it. I would highly recommend this to anyone. I really felt like I was living in a history lesson.
This book is about a heart broken widower who sends for a mail order bride to help him build his sheep ranch. Briana has been told her whole life that she is overweight and no man will ever want her, so when she loses her home and has no family she decides to become a mail order bride. Cassidy is totally clueless about how to talk with her and makes unintentional, hurtful statements. As they get to know one another and work together feelings begin to develop. But when danger threatens instead of working together, Cassidy selfishly pushes Briana away out of fear that he will lose another wife. It was an enjoyable story, although the characters were a little one dimensional.

Sweet mail order bride! Briana has taken care of her mother for 12 years. All those years her mother has told her she is not good, pretty, or skinny enough for anyone to ever want her as a wife. When her mother passes and leaves her penniless her only option if to become a mail order bride. Cassidy is lonely after his wife passes and is looking for someone to build a life with on his homestead. When his beautiful, curvy bride arrives he has to help build her confidence while trying to stay out of a range war. But first, he has to tell his first wife goodbye so there is room in his heart for Briana. Once again, Kathleen Ball delivers a sweet, inspirational romance that you will love!
A very good western. After just losing her mother Stephanie buys the house Briana been living in and promptly throws her out. This is the matchmaker I have a question what kind of matches would this woman make if it was not for Aggie. Stephanie is not a likable character but this is Briana story. Briana welcome to Pine Crossing left a lot to be desired. The not the only trouble yes they have to get to know each other but there is serious problems coming their way. This was a brutal and a bit too realistic look at the war between ranchers of sheep and cattle and it hit very close to home to these characters. It was a very good book to read. It was thought provoking with a few deep messages. I did receive a free copy of this book from Booksprout and voluntarily chose to review it.
This story here is in some ways just so typical for mail order brides stories. We get to know the leading characters quite well and their heartache and sorrows. Of course there are numerous misunderstandings that are in some instances quite witty to read about, of course as we know what is truly going on. Then we have the happy ending and all is well, even though there were some places that were totally tear-jerkers. Overall I enjoyed reading this story very much and can only hope that this author will write more stories.

Kathleen Ball continues with interesting stories from Pine Crossing. Briana never had high expectations of being a beauty, her mother had told her often enough that she wasn’t, but I’m sure she never dreamed she would meet her prospective groom covered in mud. From this inauspicious beginning, Brianna and Cassidy attempt to build a life together. Her feelings of insecurity, his guilty feeling of marrying again following the death of his wife, the expected arrival of sheep in cattle country and unexpected family problems all conspire to make this a very exciting book.
Briana has taken care of her mother but when she does she decides to be a mail order bride to get away. Cassidy owns a sheep ranch in Wyoming and sends off for Briana. This is a heartwarming, Christian novel about the hard times of sheep ran hung during the sheep/ cattle wars. Great characters and great story. I especially loved Chip, Stone, and Lucy. The sister in law though I could do without. Sit back and sip some tea as you read this enjoyable story.

Brianna's self image and lack of social experiences is a continual theme in this story. I enjoyed the journey taken with her to realize she is perfect the way she is and has so much more going for her. Cassidy is working through his own issues and when tragedy hits he loses it for a while. Bit God is true to them as all becomes clear to each of them. This is an unpredictable story with lots of adventure, action, and romance mixed in with soul searching and even fear mongering and dying. A well deserved happily-ever-after. I will continue to read this series.
I knew about the cattlemen vs the sheep ranchers just from history I have read. I do not think I had read a novel about it tho. If I have, I don't remember it. Well, it was mentioned but not like a full book. Anyway. Enough rambling. I really enjoyed this read. The characters were well-written and complex. Some characters I wanted to murder slowly, others I wanted to hug. The story had twists and turns that I was not expecting.
This was an interesting story about a mail order bride moving to Wyoming. Briana had been taking care of her Mother since she was 12 years old. She died and now Briana was 24 years of age and was ready to start her new life. She applied to be a mail order bride and she was destined to me Cassidy. This was new life to her an a new world. She had always lived in the city. You will enjoy reading about Briana’s adventures
Brianna has become a mail order bride, she arrives in Pine Crossing to meet Cassidy, his wife has died and he's lonely. He's starting a sheep farm but the local cattle ranchers aren't happy with that and are taking revenge. Then his lazy brother and his awful wife arrive and are very rude to Briana. A good read from Kathleen I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I loved Briana and Cassidy's story. The love that grew between them was wonderful. The Sheep and Cattle wars part of the story was a good story to add. I especially loved that the author included a short epilogue. Tate was a good addition as a character in the story. It might be nice to see a story about him also. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Strong characters and a wonderful plot. This story kept me reading and I am enjoying this series. Kathleen Ball's books have captivated me since the first one I read. I enjoy her writing style and her tough as nails characters. Sheep and Cattle were never a good mix in the old West. They always caused trouble and fighting between the two types of ranchers. You are going to love this book as much as I did!
A young woman whose father died when she was young, was left to care for her mother who was not a kind women. The young woman was not allowed to go to school. When her mother passed it was difficult for the young woman so she wrote a letter to become a mail order bride. Then the new adjustments. to ranch life started. She was very naive and not understand men. The story moved on and was very entertaining.
This story is absolutely captivating!!! If you are looking for a sweet and clean romance this is it. Cassidy and Briana are absolutely amazing. Their characters are so well developed and you cannot help but fall in love with them. This book keep you hooked from being to end. It has mystery, suspense, and romance and best of all in time a happily ever after. Kathleen definitely nailed it with this one.

The second book in the Mail Order Brides of Pine Crossing series a well written story that held my interest until the end. Briana Foley and widow Rancher Cassidy Doyle's story of a sheep farmer trying to make it in cattle country. There is drama, angst, danger, twists, turns, villains, and romance. A very interesting story. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Briana is not the usual young mail order bride. She's a bit older than the usual brides because she took care of her mother for years until her passing and then decided to become a mail order bride. Cassidy is a widowed sheep rancher looking for a bride. This is a sweet, heartwarming journey of love filled with many obstacles, angst, and even some danger. This is a well written story with likable characters and a great ending. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
Three stars, nice typical mail order bride storyline. Briana had self esteem issues regarding her weight and being a loner. Cassidy had problems of still caring for his first wife. Constantly playing hot and cold but her in constant confusion. Until she was tired of being at the beck of others. Towards the end she shows her independence. Good ending.
Briana had cared for her mother since she was 12, and for those 12 years she had no personal life at all. She was granted low self esteem by her mother who always told her she was fat and ugly While she became a MOB, she still had misgivings about herself and how her future husband, Cassidy saw her. She grew to love his ranch, her small veggie garden and the animals. Thus was a heartwarming story of how Briana and Cassidy claimed their lives and life together
An easy reading book involving Western life, mail order bride, and sheep ranching. A great story with strong characters who face many obstacles. This is book two of the Mail Order Brides of Pine Creek. But it is perfect as a stand-alone book. I received a copy of this book but all opinions are my own.
Cows, sheep’s and a mail order bride for the homesteader
War between cattlemen and sheep herders goes way back into the many different states. This book is exceptionally good and true to the story. I enjoyed reading about how the man found true love from his mail order bride. I highly recommend this boo, this Author knows how to keep you interested in her stories.
Enjoyed reading Brianna and Cassidy's struggle to find their HEA in this mail order bride book. She is homeless after the death of her critical mother and he is widowed after his wife dies but they are both willing to risk it all to find that someone special to build a life with on his ranch. Their story is not without troubles from local ranchers and his family but in the end they stuck it out.
I'm really enjoying this series and loved Cassidy and Briana's story. These two went through some difficult times but found their way to each other. A captivating read that I read straight through.
Briana and Cassidy were supposed to get married, but the Preacher never came, something came trouble, in more ways than one, great book, good series, Thank you Kathleen Ball.
WOW! I loved this book! It's well written and hooks you on the first page. This book has mystery, suspense, romance and so much more. If you are a fan of Christian westerns you will love this book.
