Mark David Abbott was born in Cyprus but spent most of his formative years growing up in New Zealand. A love for travel has meant that he has spent much of his life living and working in different countries around the world and currently calls India home. Mark has worked variously as a barman, a factory hand, supermarket shelf stocker, and a real estate salesman, but now devotes his time to writing and traveling. Mark is a keen runner and in between runs is slowly building an impressive collection of Gin.
In 'The Devil Inside' we hear the husband's verse of the relationship between himself and his 'loving' wife. Now it is her turn, although I still find absolutely no sympathy for her at all. Now she finally finishes her last wrong against the man she expected to spend her life with. Marriage can be tough, but it takes constant communication and listening to your partner to keep everything smooth. These two have lost that, the wife seems to take everything her husband does for granted, while he tries to meet her every expectation. A chilling story that makes You wonder how well You know your partner, with a husband who shows a little grit after he is gone. So who gets the last laugh, after all?! Maybe we should all keep our lines of communication open in all we do, as knowing what is expected or needed is the way to a better life everyday. I received an ARC from the author and offer You my honest thoughts and feelings in this review.
The second novella about the 'joys' of a marriage. In The Devil Inside we learned that Matthew Wilson, after 15 years of marriage, doesn't feel loved by his wife anymore and doesn't have the guts to leave her. So he tried to kill her instead and....failed. In Flipped we learn why. The expectations of his wife, a workaholic, are simply too high for him to handle. He never does anything right these days. And then the wife thinks he betrays her after she spied on his online activities and his phone activities. And she figures out, he intends to kill her. And a control freak like her can't let that happen, so she strikes back and Matthew becomes the dead person instead. All good for her now...until ,surprisingly for her, she learns he composed a last will..... I'm kinda glad, I never married ;)
This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
This book is the other person's perspective of the relationship and should be read after, The Devil Inside.
It just goes to show that the best thing in a relationship is good communication, when that is gone and you are interpreting the other person's action, rather than speaking to them, the results can be fatal.
I did find myself smiling at the end, which might say more about me than the book...?
A quick read, I'm glad I read them one after the other.
I received an ARC and I'm voluntarily leaving an honest review.
A husband and wife going through the motions. The wife suspects he is having an affair and put an app on his laptop to keep track of his activities. He has a plan to poison her. She has to devise a plan to reverse her fate. A page turner that I read in one sitting. A surprise conclusion.
FLIPPED: is a gripping domestic psychological thriller and the second installment in The Devil Inside Series by Mark David Abbott. This is a well written, intriguing short story with a mix of horror, drama, and a surprise ending. A story of a wife making her own plans to derail and survive her perceived intentions of her husband.
Love and marriage can change over the years and disintegrate in many ways, usually we see or hear only one side. Matthew and Clara Wilson's fifteen year marriage is falling apart. Once happily in love, the Wilsons now just go through the motions.
In the first installment, The Devil Inside, we heard the husband's version of their failing relationship. Now it is the wife's turn and her views on their dissolving marriage do not parallel her husband's view.
I received an ARC from the author and offer You my freeling given and honest review.
It seems that you can have your cake and eat it, too. But not at the same time. If you suspect your spouse is going to kill you then you'd best be on the alert. But if you plan on killing your spouse you need to be very sure he or she cannot find out. Because just as sure as not, as in this case, you could be the one who loses nearly as much. The quirky twists in this case made for a thrilling story of deceit and subterfuge. And in this case, no body won.
When a marriage falls apart the aftermath is unpredictable - 4 stars
Short and bittersweet. The unraveling of Clara and Matthew's wedding was clear. The spark was gone after 15 years. Not only was the death of one of them assured, you find the murder scene early in the story.
But in this novella, the planning and calculations go in reverse of expectations. As in the first "The Devil Inside", one part of the couple cooked and cleaned while the other half was a wage earner. Nothing unusual but as narrated by the wife, the husband was not so bright. There was no question that Clara was an exceptionally talented, clever and consummate salesperson. Matt watched a little television during the day and paid little attention to his new startup business.
As we follow the search for the right poison, failures were impossible. Each detail was checked. Not only was death assured but it would look completely natural. There would not be a need for an autopsy. The surprise was - to be sure - worth your time to see how good the plan was and how bad the planning was.
Have you read The Devil Inside? This is the same story but told from the other person's viewpoint. I would recommend reading these two books in order as the story makes more sense that way. When I read the first book I made certain assumptions and saw things one way, reading this one not only gave me a different perspective but it made me question things I assumed. This was a fantastic story that really makes the reader pause and think about how we perceive things around us and just how different people may interpret that same situation. Once I picked this up I could not put it down until I was done.
I received an advanced copy of this story from the author and am leaving a voluntary honest review.
Wow! Just wow! I was able to totally relate to the first book, The Devil Inside, not that I would follow through on morbid thoughts, but more about the angst of realizing that I married a real life monster. This book tells the flip side of that story, the viewpoint of the "monster". Having truly been in a nightmare marriage like that, I totally empathised with the husband. So wait until you read about the flip side! Does this ring true for you? How would you respond to this same situation? As for me? I'm a survivor!
After reading part 1 from the husband’s perspective, Flipped is the sequel from Clara, his wife’s point of view.
Just like the first novella, this is a quick and easy read. The author did a great job developing the characters and showing how people can have different perspectives on the same event.
In part 2, Clara discovers her husband’s plot to kill her. Which spouse will outwit the other?
OMG! What a tragic story! MDA killed my precious Mathew! I so wanted him to succeed in murdering monster Clare! And run away with the cute waitress, adopting a zillion cats!
Wow -my favorite two book series by Mark David Anthony. shocking and riveting. Great characters with a surprise ending by my favorite author. Can't wait to read more.
Oh man! Mark Abbott knows how to write a quick book! The first book was the husbands point of view and this book was the wife’s point of view and even though the had some of the same conversations in both books, they were so exciting and easy to read! Be aware that if narcissistic behavior and verbal and emotional abuse are triggers for you, probably shouldn’t read these books. I’ll definitely be looking for more from him.
Excellent! excellent!! Excellent! This is from the wife’s perspective as opposed to the first book that was from the husband. Excellent I can’t say enough about it. It was very good. It’s hard to not give much away in a review in a book like this, but trust me read them both you’ll appreciate it. You’ll love it. You’ll thank me
