Douglas Pratt was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. He has been writing since the third grade. During high school, Douglas dabbled in short stories and poems.
Douglas graduated from the University of Memphis with a degree in Journalism. He lives in Mason, Tennessee, and spends his spare time on his sailboat.
Chase is one admirable guy. Why would he volunteer to hunt down men trying to kill a man he hates? Could it be the less than ethical ties Chase has to the creep's wife? Keeping her and her daughter alive is always worth risking his life. Be prepared to meet up with some real lowlife scumbags. Don't worry too much though, usually they only last about as long as a horse fly trapped inside a car on a hot day in Florida. Chase, on the other hand is like a cat with nine lives. He manages to skate through many situations in which he ought to have died. I love his longing for the peace and quiet he hopes to find on his sailboat out on the ocean or at an uninhabited island. He waxes poetic about the lives lost during the rampage by the hit men. At least one of the bad guys wanted to redeem himself. The thoughts about redemption are beautiful. Unfortunately, some of the undesirables are so caught up in their self-love they don't see a need for redemption. This is eloquently stated by the author about one character whose "aspirations threw off the magnetic heading of his moral compass...assuming he had a compass at all." I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
The story begins with Chase tending bar when he was closing a group of gunmen attempted to kill the owners as well as him. Chase was able to fend off the attackers and keep everyone safe, but the bar was completely destroyed and would need a lot of repairs. Later Michael disappeared and Missy asked Chase to find him. Chase also started looking into why Michael was on someone's list to be killed.
As Chase began looking, additional attempts were made on Chase's life. Chase eventually developed a lead and discovered where Michael was. Now, besides Michael, Chase and Kaci a women Michael was involved with were also on the list to be killed.
Once Chase learned why they wanted Michael dead, he decided to go on the offensive.
To discover why the contract was put out on Chase and the others, who was the individual being protected and what steps Chase took, then you need to read this book. It is well worth it.
Chase Gordon is tending bar at The Manta Club, to earn an honest crust, (that's if you don't count his little infidelity on the side with his married boss, Missy Seine). But that blissful state of affairs doesn't last long. A murderous attack by gunmen on Michael, (the serial cheat and Missy's husband) Missy and Chase himself, smashes the lovers' reverie to smithereens. Who's behind it? Chase is later surprised to be hired by his inamorata, to find his missing love rival...is he getting out of his depth? Who's Tommy Rolton? Corrupt cops, a hit man who'll keep going no matter what, an egotistical Attorney General and danger round every corner, make the reader glad ex-Marine Chase knows his way out of a life-or- death situation. To find out how it ends (and who survives), get your copy of Runaway Tide, the 4th Chase Gordon Tropical Thrillers novel by Douglas Pratt today...it's a 5-star winner!
Chase Gordon had docked his boat Carina at The Tilly Inn and Marina. His friends Missy and Michael (a lawyer) owned the bar 'The Manta Club' in which Chase would tend bar for them when he is in port. Doing repairs on his boat gave him a chance to make a little money. One night while closing, Missy and Michael had just ordered drinks when a group of gunmen attempted to kill the owners as well as him. Chase was able to fight the attackers with Michaels gun but Michael was wounded. After being taken to the hospital Michael disappeared and Missy has asked Chase to look into it. Chase is investigating to find out why Michael, (Kaci a woman Michael was seeing) and now Chase are also on the contract to be killed, while several attempts were made on Chases life. Chase did get a lead to where Michael was.
Missy and awful husband Michael were totally missing from the last book, so to make up for it, this book is all about Missy and saving Michael from his bad decisions.
Both Michael and Missy have affairs. Michael with younger women, Missy with Chase. Michael goes missing and Missy asks Chase to find Michael, a man he despises. In each book, Chase declares he is not really stuck on her but his actions speak otherwise. Missy is not as "in" as Chase-seems just a convience to her. Chase needs to cut his losses here, find another place to berth his boat.
Michael got involved with a dirty politician, and he will do anything to keep it quiet. Chase saves him more than once but he can't even be grateful since he comes out alive at the end.
Chase is again drawn into the drama around him. Missy, a women he cares for asks for his help to find her husband after the 3 of them are almost gunned down in her hotel. There is no love to say the least between the two men but Chase feels compelled to help him. The author does an excellent job with the tension between the two men. The reader has got to say “Chase stop helping and let the husband be responsible for his actions”. The story is action packed up to the end leaving you wondering who is the “ she”, calling the shots to get the Attorney General into the Governor’s House.
A totally rivetting and all encompassing tale murder, mystery and mayhem Another thrilling adventure with the enigma known as Chase Gordon. At no stage was the reader able to guess what the next twist would be and how quickly it would be upon you. The whole series of Chase Gordon murder/mysteries always just keeps you glued to your seat and anxious to find out what is coming up next A thoroughly well directed novel, as are all titles in the series. Well worth reading and pursuing.
great book! missed it somehow and found it looking for book 12
I know somewhere it was mentioned that Chase had helped Michael stay alive after getting in trouble on a Lolita trip. Several people tried to kill him. The weasel still ended up living but he’s a disgusting person. I like Chase and would love him in my life! Sad. I’m 70 and I live through these stories as my means of escape. Well, on my search for book 12. I know I’ll I’ll have to wait a few months for 14 but it’s worth the wait. I can dream of Chase in the meantime!
This is the fourth exciting Chase Gordon Thriller. With an assassination attempt, crooked cops, murders, car chases, dirty politicians this action packed thriller will keep you riveted to your seat trying to figure out what will happen next. Trouble seems to find the ex-marine who always does the right thing to save those around him. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the others in the series.
If a person you despise is in trouble and a person you care about asks for your help to save that person what would you do? If you're Chase Gordon and the person you despise was the husband of the woman you were seeing and she was the one who asked for your help, you help. Plenty of action and violence as usual. Going up against people with money and political clout isn't going to be easy but Chase is up for the challenge.
Bartender and boat bum, Chase Gordon, is temporarily out of a job. Some very professional mercenaries have shot up the bar. They weren't after Chase, though, they were after Micheal, Missy's lawyer husband. Now Michael has disappeared and Missy wants Chase to find him. But why are they trying to kill him in the first place. The reason goes as high as the State Attourney General's office. There will be a lot of dead mercenaries before Chase gets done.
Dirty politics, a gubernatorial election, crooked cops, and hired killers are challenging.
Outstanding action and characters as south Florida reels with shootings on a massive organized scale. Threats of blackmail and loose ends are met with contract killers and no one is safe. A great addition to the series and well worth the time
I am reading Pratts books in order. Book 1 got my attention. Book2 nicely built on it. Book 3 was a disappointment. Seemed to drag. Too many unnecessary details and a so-so heroine. Runaway Tide moves like a freight train- nicely melding the usual characters. Can’t wait for book 5!
I have read three of the books in this series as well as one short story. The writing is consistent and the stories are generally fast paced. I would give these 3.5 stars. Chase Gordon, the protagonist, is essentially the Jack Reacher of the tropics. He gets himself into dangerous situations trying to help people and he is always able to outmaneuver the bad guys.
A single/simple man on a boat just trying to be himself, gets dragged into rescuing damsels in distress. This is the fourth book in Mr Douglas Pratt’s series of a very uncommon man. I liked it immensely and I think you will too.
Well written the gentle guy you don't push too far. Action all the time. Description of the scenery is so good it makes you feel that you are there in person. Thank you Douglas for a great book
Pratt does not disappoint. the character Chase Gordon is well developed, interesting, humorous and moral. His interaction with the bad guys is believable and not over the top. I intend to read everything that Pratt has to offer.
Well told story with characters that worked well together to bring the plot to life. Evil gets much of its due, but it also still remains…ready for its next move. Thoroughly enjoyable and will read more.
This is an awesome mystery, suspense novel. It is done really well and a complete page turner. Chase is asked by his boss and lover to find her husband after an attempted hit on them and he has gone missing. It is a really good read and will read the next in the series.
I have enjoyed all of the books I the Chase Gordon series, but this is my favorite one so far. The story line kept my interest and me awake well beyond any reasonable bedtime. Highly recommended.
Another action packed thriller as Missy’s husband is the target of a hit squad. Chase reluctantly tries to help and gets drug into a rather nasty affair of political corruption at its worst.
