The supervillains of DESTRON have conquered the country, The Big Axe has been imprisoned, and the heroes of the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection have been reduced to hiding behind a force field surrounding New York City.
And if that's not enough, Andrea Vernon is pregnant. With a Little Axe.
But Andrea’s not one to sit on the sidelines. She has to make a plan to save the country, rescue her boyfriend, and figure out what exactly people do with babies. And a whole new slate of enemies is coming for CUP, led by the newly installed dictator of America, Dr. Robotfury, and his ingenious mecha-administrative assistant who bears a rather frightening resemblance to Andrea.
It’s a lot to wrap up before you go on maternity leave.
Great end to the series. As enjoyable as the first two. Bahni Turpin really is the best audio book narrator out there. I really think that author wrote a crazy description of someone's voice just to hear her say it.
I loved this book and I really enjoyed the series as a whole! Honestly, I would love more from this author and specifically more of this world and those characters. It is funny, smart and well structured. The second and third books got better and better, lessening the slapstick comedy of the first, and getting better organized toward a story and message. Loved all the political observations, despite the author choosing to go satirical there. As I said - I want more 👍😊😊😊
Bahni Turpin is wonderful. Everytime she did the voice to Glare! I laughed like a banshee. She's freaking excellent. And I loved her Andrea. I related to her Andrea. I know Bahni did write the story but her voice is beyond perfect. Alexander C. Kane made a good choice with her. I like these stories. They're funny and take your mind of all the crap you gotta do and take you somewhere else for a little while with some people you might wanna drink with-- at least some of them. It's pure camp though the characters go through some legitimate worries and emotions but so that you enjoy the story and don't have to put the book down because you're getting anxious from all their crap. You picked up the book for a break in your own crap and don't need to just replace it with someone else's crap. They're campy so just as things get serious there is something silly or sarcastic that makes you laugh. Go for it, read them if you need a reality break.
ANDREA VERNON AND THE BIG AXE ACQUISITION is the final installment of the Andrea Vernon series. It is a shame that all good things must come to an end but as the author of many trilogies, I have to say that it is an excellent ending to what was a very funny superhero series from start to finish.
Andrea Vernon is the world's greatest executive assistant and works for the Corporation for Ultrahuman Protection (AKA CUP). Unfortunately, things have gone downhill for CUP with the conquest of the United States by supervillains and the placing of New York under a indestructible energy shield. Oh and the fact they've lost all their licenses and registration! Andrea has also lost her boyfriend, The Big Axe, to the bad guys just as she's discovered she's got a bun in the oven. Yes, things are darkest before getting darker.
The book does a good job of introducing entirely new complications with Doctor Android Fury, Androidia Vernon, and other ridiculous antagonists. We also finally discover the identities of the Senior Partners of CUP who turn out to be people that you'd literally never suspect: the ethnically diverse female clones of the Founding Fathers. It's such a bizarre and offbeat revelation, you'd swear it came from a preexisting comic book series.
Lots of craziness throughout this story and I strongly enjoyed the narrated version as she's done a fantastic job with each installment. I think this is definitely a series to pick up if you like wacky superhero stuff and who doesn't?
This was a good addition to the series. I thought the Executive Committee subplot was very, very dumb, hence the 4 stars instead of 5. However, the rest was great fun. I especially liked the new super C'Mon. Recommended to anyone who likes Andrea Vernon.
It is now out in Kindle version and equally enjoyable.
This is a great audiobook series, but this one was a little sillier than the previous 2, also possibly more political. Who will save democracy from the autocratic super villian?? All of our favorites are here, especially GLARE, who is his usual hilarious self. There is a prologue which worried me, but the epilogue explained it. Also, sort of a surprise visit which might mean another book. I hope so as spending time with Andrea, MZ Oh and CUP, is just a silly, fun time.
Very much enjoyed this final part of a very funny, suspenseful, and clever trilogy. I love Andrea, Ms. O, the Big Axe, Senora Fuego, Permafrost, and even GLAAAAAARRE! All of the details pull together nicely, and we even get a visit from the Army of Jerks! This series could easily be turned into a series of standalone adventures. I hope we see these characters again!
I listened to this on Audible. The narrator does an amazing job of bringing all the different characters to life. Her Miss Oh and GLAAARE! crack me up each time. Who am I kidding? Each voice cracks me up.
This is my favorite of the three Andrea Vernon books so far.
Some things I loved: Senora Fuego & Permafrost talking medical procedures. Androidea Vernon's personality complex. Ms. Oh's similes. They win each book. GLAAAAAARE! reaches new levels of OMG The increasingly hilarious names and powers of superheroes and villains Augustina and her parents' revelations Murderbot reference!
In previous books, the one-trick superheroes & villains were largely used as comic relief when they failed to be useful. In this one, you have that...plus the one time when they are useful being very useful, so it's especially satisfying and funny.
Andrea & co end in a good place--but I still want more. Please sir, can I have some more?
This is the third, and what appears to be, final book in the Andrea Vernon series. This is a series that has brought a lot of joy into my life. It is full of humor and action and a lot of wit. And if you’ve read my reviews, you know that those are the things that make me happy. Oh, and wonderful characters which this book also has.
This series is about a corporation of superheroes who are contracted to protect different locations, cities, counties, boroughs of New York, etc. This story starts at a really low point for Andrea and CUP (Corporation for Ultra-human Protection). DESTRON (a superhero corporation which is run by supervillains), has taken over the US and captured The Big Axe, Andrea’s boyfriend. Andrea is a person who isn’t good at showing her feelings or commitment. She refused to move in with The Big Axe (and he is always called The Big Axe, never anything else) or even tell him that she loved him, though she very much did. The Big Axe would jump at marriage if he didn’t know that it would make Andrea run away. But now, he’s captive and she learns she’s pregnant with his baby. So that throws a lot of feelings her way.
We also get to know a lot more about Ms O, Andrea’s boss. She’s been a great character throughout the series, but we really get a lot of insight into her character in this book. She always has the best sayings. I wish I could remember some to share her wit. It is the one thing I wish audiobooks had that ebooks do, a way to highlight lines to go back for reference.
Anyway, this story wraps up the series arc very well. I still really want more stories from these characters. I will miss Andrea, Ms O, The Big Axe, Inspector Well Actually, GLLAARREE!! (not sure if it is actually spelled this way, but it is how it sounds) and the others. I miss seeing what new superpowers Kane will create next, along with the name to go with them.
I guess I will have to see what else Alexander C Kane has to offer. I did see he has a dragon book coming out soon. And has another series called The Orlando People. Not sure if it will be as good as this, but I might have to give it a try.
Narration: Bahni Turpin is the perfect narrator for this series. She nailed every single character with all of their quirks. She’s great with GLLAARREE!!, and the way they talk at the top of their lungs and drawn out syllables. The way she always puts the pauses when Inspector Well Actually speaks, “Well, actually, …” I love her southern accent for Ms O, she may be Korean, but she was raised in the South with the accent that goes with it. This is a series that looked interesting when I first saw it, but when I saw Bahni Turpin was the narrator, I had to pick up the series. I’m so glad I did. I just wish there was more of them.

This is a fabulous end to the trilogy. If you've read the first two, you already know you're going to read this one no matter what anyone says, so go grab it. You won't be disappointed.
For those that haven't read any from this series, this is for you. The Andrea Vernon books are fantastic, comedic satire. It isn't just a superhero story, but rather a look at the farce that is corporate culture while tying it to the sup...sorry George...ultrahuman milieu. There are two other series that I feel do this to a fun and fascinating end, Hench by Natalie Walschots and The Boys by Garth Ennis. This series, while using the same playing pieces in a sense, is the complete opposite of The Boys, I say this as a fan of both. Everyone is has their own voice and you want to learn more. The characters are incredibly fun. The dad humor is in abundance. I find myself routing for everyone. And, having an HR background and working close with corporate execs, Andrea Vernon was someone I could relate to throughout. I also have to recognize the work of Bahni Turpin, the narrator throughout series. She truly gave each character, and the number is just staggering, a unique and interesting voice. I've never considered myself a fan of a narrator before, but I would joyfully seek out more of her work.
I do hope we get to revisit this world soon. In the meantime, I will be revisiting this series in its entirety.
Andrea Vernon is back for one last adventure, telling her eight-year-old daughter how she and the daughter’s father (who the eight-year-old has just learned was a superhero called The Big Axe—not the man she thinks of as dad) saved the world before Andrea decided to give up superheroing to be a super parent instead.
At the end of the last novel, the villains had won and taken over the nation and with it all the headaches involved in actually running a country. To help them, they create a robot version of Andrea called Androida and the two super administrative assistants go head-to-head in their efforts to use bureaucracy to help their sides win the ultimate superhero-supervillain contest—except—lots of the supervillains are on the superhero side because they are more comfortably fighting against the “man” which is now represented by supervillains.
The book is filled with the same quirky fun of the first two novels as we try to learn what the heck happened to The Big Axe and why he isn’t with Andrea anymore. It’s a worthy conclusion to a very fun trilogy.
I absolutely love this series. Andrea and Ms. O and The Big Axe are back again for an action-packed, hilarious, and detailed threat to the world - really a continuation from #2 - and it did not disappoint!
It begins by setting up a story frame that, I'll admit, I completely forgot about until the story epilogue. The inbetween bits with supervillains and superheroes and mad scientists and loving robots and multiple clones, well, it was busy and I clearly did not keep my eye on the prize. But it is worth wading through all the story threads to get to the lovely, satisfying end. Kane is a genius, the way these problems wrapped. I suspect this is the end of Andrea Vernon's story, but maybe there's more....
If anyone is a fan of superhero comics then you will definitely enjoy this Andrea Vernon series! I definitely liked the 1st book of the series but I think the 2nd book was much more entertaining. Alexander C. Kane stepped in up on the plot points, humor, and the superhero drama elements. I look forward to the 3rd book!
Review Update... 5 ⭐ stars with all 3 books ❣️ Super fun, engaging, and sooo rolf funny. This is an excellent book series to gift out. Especially if you want to help lighten someone's spirits. There is no way someone will not laugh and smile with this series. Well done Mr Alexander C. Kane!
The Andrea Vernon series is incredibly entertaining as audiobooks. However, if you are sensitive to noises, beware. Each character has a very distinct voice (which is so fun and hilarious!) but there are a few characters with voices that I could only get through with by turning the volume way down for their scenes. Note: I am very sensitive to noises; I will stop listening to podcasts when S's are being pronounced too intensely.
For a third book, that is clearly not the end, the Big Axe Acquisition was not bad. I laughed out loud many times. But then Glare is hilarious. 😂 The Book seemed to have direction and purpose but it was really weird. Especially the beginning. The Presidents storyline was unexpected. Everyone being able to smell a pregnancy and even the gender was also weird, but also kind of cool. 😎 Robots, Androids, giant mechs. Very interesting story. Just a bit weird. 😂
Timing is everything, right? I guess yesterday was the right time for me to listen to this book, because I loved it! Kane manages to juggle humor, action, quirks, social/political commentary (via story) and make a bizarre world feel normal.
Also, Andrea's kid makes me think of Bam-Bam from Flintstones. lol
I need to write up a proper review & post it later.
A solid end to the series (I assume), solid character arcs and a continuation of the generally subdued-chuckle-worthy humor. If you enjoyed the first book in this series then the remaining two follow very much in the same vein -- which I guess means if you found the first book a little trite or overly tongue in cheek then you should probably skip the rest of the series.
Bahni Turpin for president. Loved this one, but if it's the last I will be very sad. I feel like the series can pick up again in 10 years with a new heroine. But not publish the next book in 10 years. Just in 10 years from the current setting of the current book. Whatever year that is. In whatever universe that's in. I'm confusing myself now. Great book. Funny.
I absolutely love this series. It’s funny, imaginative, the characters are outlandishly true, and it’s got a great pulse on other books- there are a ton of small references. If you want something that at the end of the day leaves you willing to let go and go with the story flow, this series is a winner.
Sigh. I did not like this one as much as I enjoyed the others. I’m not sure what it was but the story dragged a little and not even Bahni Turpin could save it for me. However, Mr. Kane is EXCELLENT at naming super heroes and super villains. I laughed repeatedly throughout the book as more and more were revealed. Loch Ness Mobster might be my favorite of all.
Feels like a good wrap-up to the series. Bahni Turpin is one of the greatest voice actresses. This series has proven her commitment to fearlessly bringing the entertainment. As for the writing, yes the books are good, but special mention to Kane's creativity in picking out superhero and villain names (and abilities). Some of them are absurd but rival anything from DC or Marvel.
this series is SO DANG GOOD and so many people will never get to experience it because of it being an audible exclusive and that's a tragedy okay. (but like, fr, this lends itself so well to being a print book and I don't understand why they can't just...do that....)
also why is there ZERO FANFICTION wtf am i supposed to do now??
No disrespect to those that enjoyed this book, but I simply can't understand the good reviews. I very much enjoyed books 1 & 2, but this conclusion felt like it was written by a young teen, or someone trying to complete a book as quickly as possible with zero interest of their own. The prose and story telling was simplistic and dull. Very disappointing.
