In the words of the author, “You are what you eat, so don't be fast, cheap, easy, or fake!” or “Your gut feeling is always right, even if your gut is wrong.” With humor and wisdom, this book is a must-read for anyone looking to better understand their body’s "second brain."
So good so interesting ! Wish I had it in paper back / not kindle form so I could have done some proper highlighting & notes in the margins ETC ETC yeno and also to flick back with ease when I want to re - read something. Love learning about the gut ❤️
One continuous week of my GUT issue, got me interested in learning about My inner body and got me thinking that it should be made prior more than learning or knowing about outside world or stories. And I was more curious to learn about my GUT and I also thought it’s more important organ and i care more about it, besides I have realized and believes that the reflection of one’s mood depends on our own GUT. Okay, now when I searched in Amazon for a book to learn about GUT, I got this as suggested book firstly, I don’t remember if it’s promoted 😉. However, the reviews were satisfactory and I immediately ordered without any second thought. About the book, Did it work for me WRT my expectations? I would like to say yes and okay. With the given title, we know what it’s about and what we need to look for, and i have learnt to some extent and it was useful. one could learn more about the Inner GUT , microbiomes, good and bad bacteria, and so on. Here the author supports and recommends the bio individual diet plan rather than the systematic one which considers everyone as one and giving the same method for Everyone those who undergo a specific diet plan for their worsening gut condition. The author is also imparting us with Lifestyle recommendations which is essential in order to have a happy and healthy GUT. Though the informations were provided greatly and can be followed extensively, I was half aware of the informations due to regular follow ups of One YouTube Channel called FITTUBER. And another realization that he is doing a great job through that channel! The book is for everyone especially for ppl who needs to be aware of the basics of our GUT and how it works and what’s best for it, etc. However, for deeper technical details, I would suggest to find more other books in this matter. To end, It was one interesting read, but it lost me after 20 chapters with seven day gut reboot process, I wish that the author could have suggested some practical ways keeping the routine workers in mind ☺️.

This book started decently and ofcourse there's a lot to learn, but every page I turned felt like a push on promoting her organization. It's not wrong to do, ofcourse but please don't kill the storyline and narrative while you are at it.
Definitely a lot of scope for revisiting the texts!
The Gut: Story of our Incredible Second Brain by Payal Kothari . As a generation, we tend to fall prey to all the factual information that is being thrown at us and when it comes to legit & wise advice from our parents or elders we never listen to them.
My mom always told me - "70% of our health problems are only because of our poor digestive system and unhealthy eating habits". But I never listened to her and frankly speaking I should have.
I am not a wise guy when it comes to my eating habits, and because of that, I faced a lot of gastro-related problems. But I never found any method that could reset my gut to a healthy state.
And that's where "The Gut:Story of our Incredible Second Brain" by Payal Kothari helped me.
This book offers a comprehensive overview of the gut and its role in our overall health. The author of this book explains the complex workings of the gut in a way that is easy to understand, even for those with no prior knowledge of the subject.
The things that I appreciate about this book are its emphasis on the many factors that can impact gut health, including diet, stress, and sleep. The author provides practical advice on how to make positive changes in these areas to improve gut health.
Another strength of this book is its focus on evidence-based solutions. Payal is an integrative nutritionist and gut health coach, her recommendations are grounded in the latest scientific research. She also provides a thorough overview of the different supplements and probiotics that are available, along with their potential benefits and drawbacks.
She also feeds our minds with the 50 cheat codes and healthy recipes that could help us to sustain a healthy gut.
Overall, I found "The Gut: Story of our Incredible Second Brain " to be a highly informative and practical guide to improving gut health. Whether you're struggling with digestive issues, or simply looking to optimize your overall health and well-being, this book is an excellent resource.
Food is the most integral part of our lives. And Payal Kothari's The Gut brings you the science behind food, digestion, and everything that revolves around it. The book is divided into two parts. Part 1 is the biological basis of eating and digestion and Part 2 focuses on healthy and mindful eating habits.
The author deconstruct the neuroanatomical aspect of digestion - the parts involved, the connection our gut has with out brains, and most importantly, how to maintain and strengthen our gut-brain connection. This part busts major myths surrounding food and gives you detail-oriented descriptions about the effects different kind of foods have over your body. Not only that, the book tells you the kind of food you need when you mind, body and health goes through different phases - for example, pregnancy or when people develop neurocognitve diseases.
The second part of the book takes you to a step-by-step process on developing healthy food habits, foods that would help lose weight, ways of keeping your other organs healthy and in check. It also talks about an interesting side of your gut - the "gut feeling" - and explains us what it actually is and how it works. The author gives us eating regimes, dietary plans and some healthy food recipes that adds a cherry to the top.
A part of the book is science stuff from schooling. From there, the author establishes the connection between gut and your feelings firmly through the ENS. What she fails to distinguish is that your feelings originate not only from the gut.
By peddling pseudoscience, especially with statements that your gut controls your mental health, she is doing a great disservice both to herself and her readers. The symptoms of your mental health issues show up in your gut. You cannot treat the symptoms of your gut and expect your mental health issues to go away.
By applying this logic, she is giving in to the fallacy she's accusing conventional medicine of i.e. - Conventional medicine treats only symptoms and not the root cause, which is not the truth. Unlike the author's integrative medicine, Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology have been proven to improve mental health by addressing the root cause.
The only takeaway from the book is the relationship that the gut provides with your feelings, but that is so small a takeaway to the enormous amount of harm that the rest of the book can cause to people suffering from mental health issues.
A very easy read. Argues that the gut (intestines) should be on par to the brain and the heart. I got sold by the book cover and subtitle. I expected more science (multiple sourced data points) behind why the "gut feel" is what it is. The book is a pleasant read for content that is usually reserved for a boring textbook, and I read it within two days (three sittings).
The one drawback was that there seemed to be many conflicting pieces of information discussed in this book as to what secondary foods were good for the gut and what were bad. At the risk of sounding negative, it seemed like a hodgepodge of disparate information from unlabeled sources.
I enjoyed the recipe list in the end, which I shall get into. Although, it would be helpful to have more simple recipes.

As a health enthusiast and researcher, Gut has always attracted my attention. THE GUT is a well written and well researched book where the author deciphers the complex connection between gut health, hunger, diet, immunity, lifestyle and health conditions in layman language. She brought forth the crucial role karma plays in boosting gut microbes which in turn influences one's love life. Following the prescribed practical health tips, techniques and easy recipes, readers can achieve a better gut health and harbor trillions of good bacteria. The Gut is surely a precious book for those who want to understand their body better without entangling in the complicated web of medical terms.
Did you know there are as many bacteria in your gut as there are stars in the sky? Did you know that listening to your gut literally means listening to your gut or stomach as it's your second brain? The Gut is a veritable compendium of all that's great about our stomachs and all the ways that we abuse it by what we consume. It's also a guide to how we can help our gut recover and repair itself with a combination of traditional (herbs and yoga) as well as modern (almond milk, super grains, etc.) means. The author shares some really simple ways that we can enjoy food while ensuring our gut doesn't suffer by disrupting the delicate balance of its microbiome. Do check it out.
Great book. Good source of information about the gut, what are its functions and how to improve your gut health. This book has a collection of vegetarian recipes and diets to improve gut health which is nice for a vegetarian like me. The book is a quick read and although sometimes it seems that the author is repeating its advice, overall it's a must read for everyone. Great recommendation on my Prime reading by Amazon.
A significant portion of the content feels quite basic, almost like something you'd find at a school level. Rather than presenting a cohesive narrative or well-researched insights, it reads more like a collection of bullet points generated from a Google search on gut-related topics. This book comes across as a scattered compilation of unrelated information, with no clear citations for its sources Disappointingly, it lacks depth and organization.
This book opened my eyes to the fact that I’ve taken my gut—body’s ‘second brain’—for granted over the decades and made it the most abused organ in the body and I believe this is the case with most of us. Neither in our educational institutions nor at home are we taught as to how to keep our gut healthy and robust. “The Gut” by Payal Kothari can be used as the definitive manual for transforming our gut into our most powerful health ally.
A very nicely consolidated information about gut health and how it even affects the mental state as well in terms of stress, depression, anxiety. Usually health books can get very technical but this book is very easy to follow and understand. The book even contains recipes and tips which can be very handy.
Very informative and useful book to read. I especially loved the free recipes given in the book for healing your gut. And I recently got to know about the importance of Gut through a podcast. However, if you really want to have a vast knowledge of Gut, this book has it all the information you need.
After a first couple of chapters - this doesn't feel very scientific in its approach. First of all, she called modern medicine as allopathy, which is already a red flag. Then it is followed by a bunch of fact-spewing with no footnotes whatsoever. This just makes me feel that I cannot take what this book says too seriously!
I loved this book. While a lot of things were not new for me, the reinforcement was helpful. It’s more than a Health book and touches upon emotional and mental aspects for integrative nutrition. It left me positive and happy- so certainly recommended :)
This was a quick read with lots of insightful ways to improve your gut health. It also discusses in detail the connections of gut health and the rest of your body… mentally, physically, and emotionally.
Loved this book. Gives you important information about gut health in easy, understandable language. Definitely eye opener. Gut is second brain. It plays pivotal role in maintaining harmones and health.
A very basic book on the topic. I was expecting a detailed scientific approach of the topic but it was nothing like it. Most of the things mentioned could be found easily on internet. I would suggest other books to read even if you are just a beginner on the topic.
There is a hell lot of reduction multiple times, not just twice thrice of what was said already. And theee is so much of other topics not relevant to title of the book. The book is good but only for may be 20-30 pages and no need to waste time reading the rest, which unfortunately I did and discovered.

I have a gut feeling this book won't be of more help. Written like answering a question paper. Advice given may not be scientifically true. Instead of gut health the book takes a turn on spirituality n Gyan. Poha is mentioned as healthy food. Seriously 😳.
