Mia

An island fling was the last thing I expected when I agreed to spend a month on a tropical island with Graham and Soraya as nanny to their sweet little boy. I was planning to relax with the family, enjoy the sun, and get a break from law school…

Then a shirtless, tanned Adonis runs onto our beach and into my life.

JT is mysterious, rugged, and his gruff exterior should have sent me running in the opposite direction. But something about the man excites me, challenges me to push past my insecurities. And though I don’t see myself as a “fling” kind of girl, maybe it’s just what I need to move on from my painful past. The trouble is JT has quickly imprinted himself on my soul, and saying goodbye to him is going to break me.

JT

Going back to the island, the only place I felt like myself, was a no-brainer. Not just somewhere to seek refuge from business, family, and especially women. It’s a place of serenity…to clear my head and get rid of the anger of betrayal and figure out what I want to do with my life.

Then Mia happens, forcing her way into my heart. Like a violent storm that rushes in, wreaking havoc but ultimately ushering in a new dawn. She sees things in me I never knew existed. But our worlds are spinning in different directions, and no matter how badly I want to hang on, the force pulling us apart might just be too strong for both of us.

Reckless Recluse is part of the Cocky Hero Club world and is by Lia Fairchild. This is my very first book by Lia.

Mia Matthews is almost ready to start her very last semester of law school. For the last two years Lia has also been nanny to the adorable six year old son of Graham and Soraya whom have been more like family to Mia rather than employers. They have rented a house on the island of Turks and Caicos and Mia is going along both to rest before her last semester and also to help with Lorenzo. Only a family tragedy calls Graham, Soraya and Lorenzo away leaving Mia alone on the island.

Jace Thomas Zeigler (JT) is thirty two years old. He has spent all of his adult life working for his father for the family business, giving it everything he had to succeed. Now JT needs to get away. Things haven’t turned out as he planned and he needs time to figure out his life so he goes to the island to spend time in a place that means so much to him. A chance meeting on the beach with a beautiful woman and an injured stray dog changes everything. Suddenly his focus isn’t on his own life at all but on this woman and doing everything in his power to make her smile.

Mia has let tragedy in her past rule her life, making her afraid to experience things. JT helps her to regain her confidence, he urges her to be spontaneous, to try new things. He makes her feel brave and strong and beautiful. They say they will be friends but neither want that and it doesn’t take long before they become more. But, this is just an island fling, right? What happens when Graham and Soraya return? What happens when it’s time for Mia to return to school? She and JT live in completely different world. She would never fit in his and he would never be happy in hers.

“She smells like heaven and home all mixed up.”

This was such a sweet story of finding your “one” at the least expected time. Both Mia and JT were running from something. But they gave something so important to each other, something neither even knew they needed. Can they really walk away when their time is up? Or is there a way to make a future together?

I was really excited for this book because I’ve greatly enjoyed other works by Lia. I loved the premise and plot for this story. Two people with a lot of unchecked emotional baggage meeting in paradise and unintentionally falling for each other. A little grumpy meets sunshine and ~kind of~ forced proximity. It was a super quick read. One of those that you really want to know what’s going on next.

I always try to disregard grammatical or syntactical errors when reading an ARC (which this was) so I won’t make note of things like that. I do hate to say that I struggled connecting with the main characters’ relationship. Mia and JT’s initial interactions felt awkward at times (i.e. the continued use of ‘city girl’). A lot of their dialogue came off as a forced dynamic, if that makes sense. I didn’t dislike all of the dialogue though - I enjoyed bits of their banter.

I really liked most of the writing itself and the storyline. Some of JT’s character traits were toxic, but I’m also kind of a sucker for the possessive man trope. His inevitable character development made up for his initial grievances. There’s plenty of sexual tension that builds up between the two of them, but I’d call it closer to fade-to-black than smut. Overall, I enjoyed this book.

I’d rate this 3.5/5⭐️
Thank you to the Lia and Give Me Books PR for my copy of this E-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This journey turned out to be delightful and sweet. A page turner with a well-developed plot and characters you can root for. I enjoyed pretty much all aspects of this story because nothing was extreme. It just honestly reads like an everyday story of two people who meet, are thrown together over and over again by life and turn a fling into forever :) Both the H and h have some circumstances that they carry so that added to the level of allure in the story. I enjoyed it and did not find myself rolling my eyes even once :) #win

Mia's with Graham, Soraya and their son (from Stuck-Up Suit), for whom she's the nanny. To them, she's family, and they're all on vacation. But she has her misgivings about this, especially when there's an emergency and they have to leave, leaving her on the island alone. Ever since the loss of Mia's sister, she's carried emotional baggage. Meeting a reclusive stranger on the island just might give her a reason to let go of some of that baggage and to push past some of her boundaries. But, it's just a fling, because she lives a world away and JT's real world is one she'd never fit into. So she'll take the fling and the memories and that will be the end of it. Right?

This is a sweet read perfect for summer. JT and Mia have a lot of individual demons to work through before they can find their HEA, but it was entertaining reading as they fell for each other. Their chemistry is hot, the locale is the perfect paradise, and Graham and Soraya are in it, making it even better. Altogether, a worthy addition to the Cocky Hero Club.

Thank you, Give Me Books for providing me with a copy of this book!

Go pre-order this one now for $2.99; perfect way to end your summer reading list!

Admittedly, I am a huge fan of pretty much everything Fairchild writes and I'm not deviating with this one! Reckless Recluse was the perfect flight read for me (I always start and finish a book with every work trip I take by reading my way through all my flights). I stepped into the world Fairchild created and was instantly swept away.

Mia is nervously embarking on a "family" vacation with the family she nannies for and JT is taking a break from his life as he evaluates who he is and who he wants to be. Neither are in search of a partner, but once they meet, it is clear what they were or were not looking for may not matter in the least.

I'm not even remotely interested in a "committed relationship" these days and this book made me swoony for one anyway. JT and Mia are sweet, cute, fun, and HOT!

Reckless Recluse has a strong storyline that will keep readers flipping pages and hungry for more. Complex characters with issues to resolve are Fairchild's strong point no matter what genre she's writing, and I am never let down by the development of her characters. Mia and JT meet that standard - this isn't a oh-look-I-met-gorgeous-guy-and-now-all-my-problems-will-disappear book. Lia doesn't write like that and I appreciate it. Likewise, the male lead isn't instantaneously "fixed" by meeting some Barbie doll of a woman who wants to screw him 100% of the rest of the story. There is depth and growth along with the romance and the fun!

If you're looking for a sweet, fun, easy-to-read story to wrap up your summer reads, grab this one!

☆☆☆.75/5

Reckless Recluse is the story of Mia and JT. Mia is on vacation with Lorenzo the boy she babysits and his family. But because an emergency came up she's left all alone on the island. She meets JT and they both can't help but feel their attraction to other. JT is on the island because it's the place where he feels like he belongs. He mets Mia and knows she's too good for him. Will they deny each other or will they give into each other?

This book is fulled with Mystery that'll keep you intrigued in the book. As the secrets come out you feel on step closer to knowing both Mia and JT. I love how this book kept me on my toes with the angst. The side characters are a big part in the story too I felt like. I love Boney. He was the reason JT and Mia met. I wish we got more. I thought it was an okay book. It had so much potential. But overall I give this book a 3.75/5!

Swoon worthy amazing!
I fell in love with JT. He may seem like the angry and grumpy type of rich guy. But he has a heart of gold he keeps hidden. When he runs into Mia on the beach he frustratingly becomes smitten with her. Mia is the type to keep to herself and after losing someone who's been her life line struggles to let go and fears the unknown. I love how JT gets her out of her shell. This book is fun and entertaining from the beginning. This is the first book I've ready by Lia Fairchild and I loved it! I highly recommend this book. A must read! 📚

There could have been a more tightened plot, a more developped struggle for Mia–that isn’t explained in one paragraph, and resolved in another one–but there was JT and it was enough to enjoy the book. Plus, it’s a destination romance, with lots of exotic settings!

Mia was interesting too, the nerd who learns to open up and risk a little to win more when she’s been hiding for years. But sometimes, I didn’t get her reactions, they weren’t consistent with her personality.

JT, though, was the real star of the book. He describes himself as a not so great guy, but what we see of him is the exact opposite. He’s nice, attentive, generous, devoted… What I liked the most about the character? His gentle touches–the brush of a finger, a hand held, a small attention. The romantic in me swooned big time.

His own personal troubles too get the best place on the stage. They come to a satisfying conclusion, and they’re the most important engine of the story. He has a lot to say and a lot to show. He could have been a little more in touch with his feelings though.

Their intimate scenes weren’t utterly graphic, but they conveyed a lot of emotions. They weren’t exactly soft or clean–there’s a lot of passion there–but they were still quite hot, and I enjoyed them a lot.

The side characters didn’t really have a personal agenda and were mostly in the story to keep it going. The book revolves around Mia and JT and their sweet yet passionate love story. Plus, it’s a destination romance, with lots of exotic settings! A good addition to the Cocky Hero Club.

Reckless Recluse was my first read from Lia Fairchild, and I loved it and Mia and JT!! Mia is a nanny for Soraya and Graham's young son Lorenzo and she joins them on a tropical family trip. Graham and Soraya are suddenly called home under tragic circumstances and leave Mia to stay at the beach house until they return. Mia is way out of her comfort zone, and of course she meets a very handsome and somewhat broody, angry man on the beach. She thinks he's kind of a jerk, but a puppy quickly changes her mind about him, and because of said puppy they end up spending some time together. Despite Mia's initial thoughts on JT, there is some AWEMAZING chemistry between them, and they are both feeling more than either are willing to admit to themselves, or each other. JT helps Mia come out of her shell, and do things that are outside her comfort zone and she likes who she becomes when she is with him. There are some misunderstandings that occur, and neither one is willing to reach out and find out what is really going on, so they stop talking and both are miserable. Something happens and JT finds out the truth, now will that be enough for them to give whatever they have developed a chance to grow into maybe something more? Y'all are just gonna have to read to find out what happens!!

I was so excited to read this when I saw we would see Graham & Soraya from Stuck Up Suit because I loved their book so much and this did not disappoint! I was given an ARC of this book and it’s perfect for summer.

She’s the nanny of Graham and Soraya’s son so when they go on a trip and she goes with them and that’s where she meets JT, that’s where her story beings. He’s full of mystery, adventure and it’s no surprise she was allured. They both have pasts and and not as different, there relationship is fun, a little angsty and endearing. I love that they got their HEA although it could’ve been a tiny tiny bit longer but maybe that’s just me wanting more and I loved the relationship she has with Graham, Soraya and their son. It was such a nice addition to the story.

This was such an enjoyable book by Lia who was a new author to me. JT has gone back to his mothers home for an escape and reflection and meets Mia who is on holidays with her boss and his family. They meet due to one cheeky dog and despite his grumpiness and Mia being scared they have a good chemistry and decide to become friends but they can’t deny their feelings. This book was delightful and I couldn’t put it down. This book had all the feels and is part of The Cocky Hero Club but can be read as a standalone. I received this book as an arc for my honest opinion.

It was hard for me to connect to JT for some reason but I loved Mia. The story held my attention and while JT wasn't a favorite, I still enjoyed watching the relationship develop between him and Mia. I'm thinking I'm gonna give it another read on another day to see if my feelings can change but all in all, this was a nice and easy story!

I read this book in one day as this author was able to keep me interested in Mia and TJ's story.

Mia and JT have the perfect amount of chemistry, banter, drama and love.

I love how JT seems to have a tough exterior but when Mia is around it seems to melt away. JT is able to help/guide Mia with her personal struggles.

Graham and Soraya also make the story special.

What another fantastic Cocky Hero Club Novel.

A great book which I enjoyed reading very much! It has an air of mystery about it that keeps you interested and turning the pages as fast as you can so you can find out what's going to happen next! The characters are fun, witty, and charming and sometimes sassy LOL!!! There's a magnetic pull that kept bringing the characters together.. it was fun watching their relationship and then passionate interaction develop and heats up!
Definitely a book you won't want to miss!

This story was not what I thought it would be. I loved Mia she has had so much heartache one should never have had. She's a survivor and she is scared, but will do anything so can to get over those fears. She doesn't think she is strong enough to get through it all. When she goes on vacation with Graham and Soroya her life is about to change. JT just wants to be left alone going through his own life changes he doesn't expect Mia. However, he can't stay away from her. They will both butt heads, but he will be there for her in a way she didn't think she needed. He's about to break her out of her comfort zone. But can the recluse fall in love or will he destroy it all before it gets good?

I loved the idea of a little island romance while on vacation. Getting to know each other while exploring the island. Mia got the fancy treatment from JT in this one. I loved how she turned him into not being so angry and I loved how he helped her face her fears and anxiety. It was fun having Bony and Josiah be part of the story too.

When I tell you that I loved the characters so much, I literally might name one of my future kids after one of them…

*I am so grateful to have been provided with an ARC of this book to read before it’s publishing date.*

I have been so busy with the start of school lately and have found barely anytime to read but let me just say—THIS BOOK WAS ADDICTING. Much like her Liar duet (my new favorite duology!!), I could not stop reading this book. On days where schoolwork was just too much, I found myself getting upset that I wouldn’t be able to continue JT and Mia’s story because of my teacher’s inconsiderate assignments!! I loved JT and Mia’s love so much that I’m possibly deciding if I want to name one of my future kids Mia 😂.

Tropes involved:
- grumpy/sunshine
- forced proximity-ish (small island)
- both MCs with tragic pasts

Personally, I like to rate by scale so I divvy up my ratings by category, as listed below:

romance: 💗💗💗.5/5
steam: 3/5 (not a central part of the book which I love that Lia Fairchild does because it makes the book so much more—for lack of a better term—emotional and sentimental)
plot: 🌟🌟🌟/5
MC Development: 4.5/5 GENUINELY AMAZING
Overall: 3.75/5

Let me start by saying: JT ZEIGLER! You too-charming-with-words, hot-as-heck, grumpy-but-adorable Adonis man! you are too fictional for your own good and it just strengthens how I love the way that Lia Fairchild writes her heroes. She always manages to ace the soft spot in the hero and make him so incredibly lovable in every situation.

I also LOVE how Mia’s character is so sweet and sunshine-y but her soon-to-be-lawyer side never fails to make a showing. Their story is so short but so full of emotion either from the characters or from the reader FOR the characters.

This was such a great read to get me out of a reading slump and to make me feel all of those “HOW IS HE SO CUTE TO HER” butterflies ☺️.

Lia Fairchild, you are in the top ranks of my favorite authors!

I voluntarily review an arc of this book. This is the first book that I have read by Lia Fairchild. I was not disappointed in the story. It is well written book. The characters are well developed. Mia is very scared of everything. She had very tragedy . JT is very angry person. JT has had so family problems. This story is about Mia and JT. Mia is a nanny for Graham and Soraya. They took her on vacation with them to Turks and Caicos. The day that they made it to villa Soraya get a call from her dad. It was some bad new about her stepmother. Graham and Soraya and their kid have to leave. They tell Mia that she should stay. After they leave she see a good looking man run on the beach. A little bit after seeing the man she see a dog on the beach that goes after the fish from man that was fishing. The dog on the hook from fish stuck in his mouth. Mia tried to help dog but couldn’t get the hook out and man that was running earlier come to help. He is not a very nice person. He ask if any of them have a car to take the dog to the veterans. She is the only one that has a car. She is scared of of doing anything. JT yelled at her they drive on the other side of road. The next day she goes to check on the dog and find JT with the dog. After that they started to hang with each other every day. They both have the hottest for each other. They agreed to be friends. As each day passes they grow closer to each other. They can’t seem fight their feelings for each other. Will they be able to get pass their past to be together. I can’t wait to read more book by Fairchild. I would recommend this book.

4 Star Review Reckless Recluse (Cocky Hero Club) by Lia Fairchild
One of my favourite things about the Cocky Hero Club is that I get to find new authors, such as Lia Fairchild and this was a great addition to the series.
Having read the blurb and knowing that Mia Mathews is nanny to Graham and Soraya’s little boy, Lorenzo I was excited to read Reckless Recluse.; add in that it is set in Turks and Caicos and I was all in. When Graham and Soraya have to leave suddenly they insist that Mia stay and enjoy her break.
The last things she expects is to meet Jace Thomas Zeigler (JT) and embark on a passionate fling. There's something about JT that draws her to him. Both Mia and JT have baggage from the past and although they have an intense connection it appears that fate is trying to tear them apart.
These two are meant to be together but as secrets are revealed I was on the edge of my seat wondering if they would stay together or be torn apart. I loved how supportive JT was of Mia and I fell for him hard and fast. The banter between them was witty and their chemistry intense.; a quick read that was entertaining,

This is the first book I have read by the author and it is a witty, engaging read. Mia is a nanny who works for my favorite couple, Graham and Soraya, taking care of their son Lorenzo while she is prepping for her final semester of law school. She is somewhat of a reserved woman due to her life experiences and an unforeseen tragedy. JT is an alpha male who comes from a wealthy family and has worked for his family’s company for many years. Unfortunately, it has made him someone that he is not proud of and he decides to step away. Due to an incident with a precious dog, Mia and JT begin what looks to be an interesting relationship. Will these two be able to forge a future together or is it just an island fling? The chemistry between Mia and JT is hot and will make readers swoon. The banter between the two keep the pages turning and the scenes with “bony” will have anyone hooked. Overall, this is one storyline that proves one can find love when they least expect it and it is a welcome addition to the C. Hero Club series.

Lia Fairchild is one of my go to authors. I love her writing style and characters. Her Bridge's Brothers series is a favorite of mine.

Now she has joined the Cocky Book World with Reckless Recluse. It's a spin off from Stuck Up Suit by Penelope Ward and Vi Keelan. Which I loved!! Soraya and Graham were buckets of fun.
So, when I read the synopsis for Reckless Recluse, I was beyond excited. Not only are they featured, but it's about two people who meet on a beautiful Caribbean island.

Mia is Soraya and Graham's timid but sweet nanny. She endured some tragedies in her life that have left her a bit lost. Last thing she needs is a cantankerous, broody adonis disrupting her world.

My first impression of JT, sure he's hot but boy he's an asshole. Lol. Sometimes he was bit too much and really rough around the edges. He was obviously angry about something. It took me a while to warm up to him and the story. I felt a disconnect in the beginning. The second half of the book is where I felt their connection and the book took off....
Mia and JT's accidental friendship morphed into something more...

As the story unfolded, I came to realize that maybe JT isn't so bad after all. Once Mia broke through his walls, he was actually a sweety with a big heart!

Reckless Recluse is a cute story about two very different people bringing out the best in one another.

This is a great addition to this amazing series and is JT and Mia’s story. Mia is spending a month on a tropical island with Graham and Soraya, as nanny to their little boy, but when tragedy strikes the family leave, and she is alone on the island. JT has given his all to the family business, and when things do not pan out as expected, he comes to the island which feels like home to him, to regroup, and figure out where to go moving forward. JT and Mia cross paths and are instantly drawn to each other, and they may be from completely different worlds, but they compliment each other perfectly. But what will happen when it is time to leave the island? This is a well written story which is sweet, fun, intriguing, and with angst, mystery, secrets, and love, which leads to an entertaining and all-consuming page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Mia is Soraya & Graham's nanny, and she's a sweet, shy girl. She's getting a break from law school when she goes to a tropical paradise with the family, and the last thing she could see coming was an island fling coming her way in the guise of JT. I have to stop here to say that I wasn't a big fan of JT's for a cool minute because he came off very badly, however, when Mia got past all those strong walls in place, I could see the appeal since there was more to him than the betrayal that is covering him. They have serious chemistry going for them, but there's obviously an expiration date for them, and man I hated it because feelings were getting caught despite their best efforts at not letting them. I really enjoyed Reckless Recluse at the end of the day, and I truly believe you'll feel the same after you hit those one click buttons because you can't go wrong with the Cockly Hero Club! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Mia has endured a devastating loss which left her feeling alone and uncertain of who she was. While she finishes law school she has been working for Soraya and Graham as their nanny and has come on their family vacation with them. When they need to leave, and Mia stays an injured dog brings JT into life and he shows her how strong she really is.

JT is at a crossroads in his life as everything he was working for was taken away leaving a fractured family relationship in its wake. His determination to honor his mother brings him to town and once her meets Mia he can’t imagine life without her.

Both JT and Mia are going through a difficult time in their lives, but they feel a connection and trust that allows them to break their walls and share their pasts with each other even though they had a few missteps along they way

This was a very enjoyable quick read. Mia is a law school student who is also a nanny for a family she adores. Mia has some emotional baggage that she needs to unpack. When the family she nanny’s for suddenly has to leave her alone on their one month vacation she meets some friends. I found Mia a little immature but in all she grew on me. JT is a workaholic business who is escaping from reality and life in general. JT needs time to figure out what to do with his life. These two find each other when they needed a friend the most. With helping each other they were able to help themselves. This was a great book and I enjoyed The well developed characters and the way they just really cared about helping others. I look forward to reading more books by this author.

I'm writing this review for United Indie book blog...

This was such a delightful book to read! I loved both Mia and JT, they were seriously the cutest couple! It was a quick read with so many great scenes in it and of course it was nice to see Graham and Soraya again. I loved the feel of this book and the characters definitely brought it to life even more. JT was such a nice guy who loved hard but had some issues to overcome, kinda the same with Mia. These two together fit perfectly together and made each other better people. I so enjoyed this book!

Having read the blurb and knowing that Mia Mathews is nanny to Graham and Soraya’s little boy, Lorenzo who happens to be my favorite Cocky Hero Couple. I also love a nanny romance and a vacation destination like Turks and Caicos, and I was all in. This is a super quick read but was fantastic. This was my first time reading this author and I will be checking out other books by them.

Fun Easy Read

This book was a fun read about a whirlwind beach romance.

Mia is a live in nanny for a family in Manhattan. When they get to Turks and Caicos the family has to leave due to a funereal back in the states.
Mia stays at the beach and is told to enjoy her vacation. Little does she know saving a dog will lead to a grand romance with a billionaire that has a heart of gold.
