Love by the Numbers
Nothing is more fragile than a man’s ego. But that fragile ego can be bolstered by the man’s evaluation of his superiority in comparison to any individual who might be his opponent. But in today’s world that opponent might be male or female. A man needs a method of evaluating who is the alpha. Who has the most money, the greatest power, or the largest business successes?
But in today’s world, women have begun to find their pathways into the highest levels of achievements in business, finance and society. So, when Mia Couture’s algorithm for sorting individual choices became the company Diamond Analytics, which provided the foundational data needed to shape sales campaigns and marketing, facilitating a company’s focused product pitch to land with great precision, propelling Couture’s proprietary software, and the company controlling it, to unlimited financial success.
And as a result of the beautiful Chinese American’s tech savviness and coding genius, her company’s stock soared under the direction of venture capitalist Mason Sullivan and his company, SHN. Now, Mia plays with the big boys in the tech world with a company possessing the ability to harvest data reflecting an individual’s interest and purchases, a technology that even countries like China or Russia would be eager to access to gain knowledge of an individual’s choices. Such valuable might lead an unethical entity undertake any method available to gain such knowledge—such power—even illegally hacking into a company like Diamond Analytics, to access its proprietary code and the preference revealing data gathered by the Couture coding genius.
Under such high-stake challenges, Mia has been lucky to have a group of friends to whom she can turn for support, for guidance and with whom she can simply hang out and be herself. She has been lucky enough to gather a group of women like herself—bright, creative and successful in their business ventures—the Stiletto Sisters—strong, successful women who understand that a smart, independent woman can intimidate the fragile male ego, even the ego of a technology titan.
So, when Mia’s best friend, a Stiletto Sister—Viviana Prentis—is revealed to be a Russian agent—a super spy and a murderess, Mia is stunned and broken by the betrayal of the friendship and Viviana’s murder of a wonderful friend, mother and wife, Cecelia Cortez Sullivan. Mia is especially hurt and angered by how she herself is tainted by her innocent relationship with a woman who did not deserve to be called a friend. And now, Mia faces a world turned upside down. Her baby—her company is being taken from her by a board of directors whom she had trusted. Her company’s servers are being hacked by a foreign power.
To calm herself, to occupy her mind and to distract herself from a life spinning out of control, Mia, who has been forced to take a leave of absence from her company, uses the basic algorithm of the code for Diamond Analytics, to create a dating application—Flirt. And SHN helps her launch the application at a party. At the launch party for Flirt, she is introduced to Axel Remington, a sports agent who is currently handling 3 young players on the local San Francisco and she gives him her number.
Who would guess that the wealthy, beautiful, smart, savvy coder has a soft spot for baseball? But when still a young girl, Mia had realized that baseball spoke her language as no other sport did—the language of mathematical variations. Each pitch thrown to each player reset the calculus of the hitter, the pitcher, and the game. The statistics generated with the constantly changing variables offered endless pathways where her mind could play. And, she could rattle off batting averages and the statistics of the game with the best. So, it was not hard to understand the almost instant affinity shared by Mia and Axel. It’s all about the numbers.
