Known as the team loner, Riggs Nadeau gives his all on the ice, but nothing extra off it. A beautiful stranger is about to cause chaos in his very structured world.

As a professional hockey player, people think I live a charmed life. On the surface, I do. But they don’t know the horrors of my childhood, or the real reason that I have custody of my seventeen-year-old sister, Janelle. And that’s exactly the way I like it. They may think I’m a prick because I don’t like to share, but that’s fine. They don’t know me, and they don’t need to.

In an effort to help Janelle get settled in Phoenix and stay out of trouble at school, I set her up with a job at Clarke’s Corner, the local bookstore owned by the girlfriend of a teammate. It’s there that she makes friends with Veronica Woodley, the extremely annoying, arrogant, money-hungry divorcee who I don’t want anywhere near my sister. Janelle insists I’m completely wrong about Veronica, but I refuse to accept that. I have to keep reminding myself that that the gorgeous blond with legs for days is off limits.

Through a series of events, I start to see Veronica for what she really is—an amazing woman who has survived her own hell to come out even stronger. I have to admit, we’re more alike than not and the attraction between us burns hot.

Maybe I was all wrong about my ability to love and commit, but when the past comes back to haunt me, can I be the man that Veronica, and Janelle, deserve?

They’ve developed feelings for each other, they finally kiss (they were arguing) and then, when he goes to get a condom he’s basically like “oh shit. I used them up with the other woman during my trip so I don’t have any” (he doesn’t SAY it, but that’s basically what he’s thinking)

The h wonders why he doesn’t carry condoms like lots of guys do and he says he’s not like those guys 🙄

When in reality, he used them up with the ow during the trip he JUST came back from

Yeah. Not for me. 🤬

So I’m ok with the H or h being with other people at the beginning of a book. I don’t love it, but I can usually ignore it especially if it happens before they meet. After they meet it bothers me more. I don’t find it romantic for either MC to sleep with someone other than the other MC. It’s for that reason it really bothered me in this book. So when at the 51% mark Riggs sleeps with someone else it ruined the whole book for me. Riggs and Veronica were not together but they had kissed and were still in at the stage where they didn’t like each other. But he comes home from a road trip mad about something Veronica had done to help his sister and walks into her apartment to apologize when he realized he had the story wrong. Instead of apologizing he just starts kissing her and is ready to sleep with her and realizes he doesn’t have any condoms because he used them during his road trip when he hooked up with someone. THEY HAD ALREADY KISSED!!! This totally ruined the book for me. When Veronica says “don’t guys always carry condoms” Riggs replies that he’s not that kind of guy when really he just used them. YUCK. So, I skimmed the rest of the book but I just couldn’t get past that. It’s too bad because the rest of the story was good.

This was so not what I was hoping for. I've been reading this series since the start and Riggs is a character that's intrigued me, but the romance was lackluster at best. I need to give a few spoilers to explain what didn't work for me, so that's your warning. The biggest issue? Riggs sleeps with another woman (off the page) after his first kiss with the heroine, and I'm not sure that was the only time. They have a sex-only relationship for the vast majority of the book, and it's only in the final scenes that monogamy or feelings are even mentioned. I don't know about you, but when I'm reading a romance, the *ahem* romance is important to me. And that was the biggest problem in this book.

The story follows Riggs, a pro hockey player who is a bit of a mystery to his teammates. He's the primary caregiver to his sister and his family life is a mess, so relationships are nowhere on his radar. When Riggs meets a sexy and infuriating divorcee, Veronica, sparks fly. It's not long before things are heating up between them, but neither one is interested in more. But as they spend time together, things begin to shift.

I was actually really looking forward to Riggs' book, so it's disappointing that it was so lame. I'm not even going to pretend that it wasn't. For such a short book, Riggs and Veronica actually spend very little time on the page together - this advances the series more than it does anything else, with some big revelations and character updates that promise to shake things up in future books. As to the romance itself, it just wasn't good. Finding out that Riggs sleeps with someone else halfway through the book pretty much extinguished any enjoyment for me, and it wasn't that high to begin with. Plus, most of the scenes that would've actually showcased the romance are completely omitted. There are a couple of time jumps that are jarring and it's not until VERY late in the book that any conversations happen between our couple. If you're reading this because you love the series, it's definitely an important read. As a standalone, no thanks. I appreciated receiving an early copy and am voluntarily leaving a review of this sports romance, but this wasn't a win for me.

Connor Crais and Savannah Peachwood were amazing! I loved their narration and especially enjoyed Connor Crais's performance. His voice had just the right amount of gravel as Riggs, but he was also able to narrate other characters equally well and effectively. I look forward to hearing more of his narrations. The prologue of the next book was a fun treat at the end and Aiden Snow will make a wonderful Baden.

*****
I've been very curious about the mysterious Riggs and was so happy to finally get his story. This enemies to friends with benefits to more, forced proximity-ish, sports romance is a great addition to the series. Riggs and Veronica both have baggage from their pasts that they have to work to overcome, but they really were so perfect together. It took me a bit to warm up to the standoffish Riggs, but his character arc was very fulfilling and I appreciated how much he grew throughout the story. I especially loved how his relationship with his sister Janelle and friendship with Baden evolved and flourished. Riggs works for his HEA and fans of the series will be cheering him on the entire way. The book ends with a surprise I didn't see coming and I'm looking forward to Baden's book next!

Riggs is book 11 in the Arizona Vengeance series, and although it can be read as a standalone, it would be most enjoyed if read in order since previous couples and characters appear throughout. There are also some very serious topics addressed in the novel which might be upsetting to some, so I encourage readers to check the content warnings below.

CW: assault and stabbing (discussion of past event when MC was a minor), on page assault/fighting, attempted kidnapping & extortion, mentions of attempted sexual assault of minor (past), abusive ex (past), abusive and toxic parental relationship, MC1 has a ONS (prior to starting a sexual relationship with MC2), tragic death of loved one

VERONICA + RIGGS

We met both of them in previous books.
Veronica is book-store-girl Clarke's best friend.
She's a mega rich divorced lady about to stop working at the store to go back to school to finish her business degree.
And Riggs. We've been waiting for his story. He's the new guy on the team who is not yet really part of the team. Especially the social part of it. He's not going out for drinks, he doesn't talk much. But he has his reasons. He took in his 17 year old sister and he doesn't want people to ask questions and talk or judge...

Riggs and Veronica do NOT have a love at first sight moment 🤣... but we'll get there!

LET THE FUN TIMES BEGIN... 😎

Another adorable and sexy little story in this great hockey series.
I really enjoyed reading it. I was waiting for Riggs to tell us his story for ages. Same as with Baden - I so need him asap!
Riggs and Veronica do not make the best first impression on each other. But still ... there are super sparks. It was really adorable watching them not fall for each other. 🤣
I didn't love that they didn't even meet until 25% of the book was already done. But most of that was filled with introducing us to the sister. Which I liked - she should get her own book soon!
Anyway - I really liked reading this.
And now ... after that ending - I need Baden's book asap!

Can we also please also get a Sawyer Bennett Hockey Netflix series??

RIGGS was another adorable love story in this great hockey series! ☺ Run to your nearest amazon for your own RIGGS - this one is MINE!

This review is hard to write because I have so many conflicting emotions about this book. I loved this series and had been looking forward to Riggs' story since he was traded to the Arizona Vengeance, but to be honest there wasn't much romance in this Sports Romance Book....does that make sense? I liked it, I just didn't love it. With each of the previous books there was the angst as well as the romance but in this book we have a lot of angst and not much romance. Don't get me wrong, they were getting it on - hot and steamy - but they were hooking up, they didn't even like one another most of the time so it was more like angry sex (which can be pretty hot) that turned into the causal hookup, there wasn't any talk of monogamy or dating until the end of the book...so yeah, conflicted.

Riggs has always been a bit of a mystery because he never hangs with the guys after the games you don't get to know much about him other than he has custody of his younger sister, but why does he have custody of her? Well, we find out the answer to that question and many more in Riggs' story.

We've met Veronica before she's Clarke's bestie and works in her bookstore which is where Janelle begins to work after school and they become friends, I am glad Janelle had someone to talk to because that girl has been through a lot. Veronica and Janelle's relationship was the priority in this story because that is what we were given the most of.

I did receive an advanced readers copy but I knew I wouldn't be able to read it before the release so I purchased the audiobook and listened to it instead. Connor Crais and Savannah Peachwood did a great job with the narration, if you have the option to listen to this book I would go this route because they really brought Riggs and Veronica, and Janelle to life.

Although I didn't love this book I would still recommend it because you never know, you may enjoy it more than I did...and I hope you do.

Happy Reading!!!

Sawyer Bennett produces a sexy and emotional romance that follows the untamable hockey star Riggs Nadeau and the woman who captured his heart.

Riggs doesn’t socialize and certainly doesn’t date. The Vengeance defender is a reserved loner who moved to Arizona with Janelle, his 17YO sister who he recently got custody of. But having to travel half the time requires he rely on someone to help him keep an eye on his sister and there’s no one Janelle would rather be with than the gorgeous Veronica Woodley.

Although Veronica and Riggs have rubbed each other the wrong way since they laid eyes on each other, they’ll put aside their animosity for Janelle’s sake. And as they reluctantly get to know each other, they realize they have more things in common than combustible chemistry. But can they overcome their fear of commitment?

OMG Riggs is an absolute conundrum. He’s an incredibly loving brother, but when it comes to Veronica he’s intolerant and quick to judge. Of course sparks flew between the two because Veronica did not put up with that sh!t and their interactions were awesome to watch. I loved his character development and I was swooning by the end.

Veronica had her own past demons to contend with, but was incredibly caring towards Janelle. I would love to have someone like her as a friend.

Veronica and Riggs seem to be at complete odds when the book starts. They’re confrontational arguments lead to interesting and sexy banter. And ultimately, as they get to know one another, they realize they’re more alike than they though and in my opinion are perfect together.

I also loved that Sawyer incorporates past Vengeance couples giving the fans of the series on update on their favorites and lays the ground for characters I can’t wait to know of.

Riggs is book #11 of the Arizona Vengeance series by Sawyer Bennett. Riggs is an enemies to lovers hockey romance. It’s told from both points of view with a happy ending. Subgenres: sports romance

3-3.5 Veronica and Riggs Stars

Book 11 in the Arizona Vengeance series focuses on Riggs and Veronica but it is a key book because it sets the scene for the new series coming from Sawyer Bennett about the Pittsburgh Titans and it will start with Baden which releases January 11 2022.

Riggs is very much the dark and brooding hero and he has long been the most reserved player on the team , never really connecting with his team mates. He is the legal guardian for his 17yo sister Janelle. Veronica is the best friend of Clarke , who is the heroine from Book 7 , Wylde. (My favourite in the series).

Veronica and Riggs do not get on. This is an enemies to lovers / grumpy-sunshine trope. For the most part I did enjoy it but a couple of things bothered me. Riggs and Veronica share a pretty heated kiss then go their separate ways , neither really intending to pursue anything between them but Riggs returns from a road trip , ends up at her house and they very nearly have sex except , they don't have a condom because....

“If we don’t stop now, I’m going to fuck you.”
Veronica’s mouth is swollen, her eyes bright and skin flushed. She shrugs off my threat.
“Fine by me. I haven’t had sex in a really long time.”
Well, I have. Hooked up with someone on this past road trip, but the totality of that experience was nothing compared to how damn hot just this kiss was with her pressed up against the wall.
Her eyebrows knit. “But don’t all men carry one in their pocket, just in case?”
“No, not all men do that,” I rebuke. But in truth, I had one in my pocket that got used on this recent road trip.

Now, to be clear , I did not think this was cheating. Our H/h were not together. They had one kiss and thought they would not connect again. To be completely honest, I'm not even sure why it bothered me , but it really did. I didn't like him casually dropping that little bombshell, it threw my reading mojo off. I felt disappointed in him.

Also, I felt like they disliked each other for too long in the book. I wanted them to be nicer to each other for longer. He does redeem himself and he is romantic at the end of the book but for me , it just took too long for me to warm up to either of them.
I did love the relationship between Janelle and Veronica and also seeing how Riggs slowly thaws and how that improves his relationship with his sister too. Veronica is a pretty kick ass heroine and I liked that she was as protective as Riggs.

Finally , that ending!!! Wow. I was not expecting that. It sets up the next series but I was a bit stunned and I am still reflecting on how I feel about that. I listened to the prologue for Baden and it certainly starts on a very melancholy note. However, I trust this author so I shall cautiously entrust my kindle heart to her and will be reading the new series ...but I will ensure I have tissues on hand.

Just to say , I listened to the audio book and also read the ebook. Savannah Peachwood and Connor Crais delivered fabulous narration - I would give them 5 stars for their performance.

HEA? More HFN
Cheating? No. Once they connect properly, there are no sexy shenanigans with anyone else.

I Love Brave Authors. Authors who will give readers people who are not always the easiest to like, relate to, or may just be hard to love. It is brave because the character will need many "Come to Jesus Moments", and these moments have to ring true, not manipulated. Crafting is key and when it comes to threading that needle, Sawyer Bennett is a champ in my opinion.

In Riggs, we have a man who has stepped up and taken on the real challenge of becoming his teenage sister's legal guardian.
The years between and different fathers had caused the separation during her childhood, but when Riggs' career took off, he always made time for her over the years.

Now both of them are experiencing the feelings of being fish out of water. They are both in new environments, Riggs being part of a new team in Arizona with Janelle dealing with a new home, a brother to get comfortable with, and the high school stuff. Lots to handle and also the questions by others, neither of them wants to answer.

This story works on so many levels. We have Riggs making snap assessments about a woman who happens to be a positive influence on his sister. Veronica Woodley has had her own life lessons, and it is her understanding of them that makes her such a delight. The arc of Riggs figuring out how to relate to his teammates, his sister, and the relationship with Veronica is all there.

We also are given more insight into the men of Arizona Vengence, especially Baden, a teammate who had a tragic accident, and is working hard to get back on the ice. With these insights into the league and Baden, we are given a taste of what is to come in the new hockey series by Sawyer Bennett, The Pittsburgh Titans.

I cannot believe this is book #11 in Arizona Vengeance Series. Rigg’s has been a character that I have wanted to know more about. He is just so mysterious, moody and broody.

We know from the other books that he has custody of his sister Janelle who is 17 years old. We knew he does NOT participate in social media which is something the team likes all the players to do. He attends the team functions but he doesn’t always fully participate.

Once you find out the history for Riggs and Janelle you fully understand what a great brother he is to his sister. You will also understand why he is so protective of her.

Veronica we met in other books because she is Clarke’s best friend and employee from Aaron Wylde’s story. She is a great character and I am glad I finally got her back story also. She is a real spit fire and I love her.

Riggs and Veronica’s story was one I fully enjoyed. I liked that they were not fond of each other at first but learned to get along for Janelle. I loved how supportive Veronica is of Janelle and always seemed to have her back.

I truly loved this story!!

We’ve seen glimpses of the reserved, stand-offish and newest member of the Arizona Vengeance, but haven’t gotten to know anything about him until now. Riggs has been in other stories, but we’ve learned very little about this broody guy. As the most recent player to join the team, Riggs has done little to fit in with the other players, sharing almost nothing of himself beyond the fact that he has recently gained custody of his teenage sister. He has come off as a bit of a jerk in the past, but as it turns out, the brusque loner is a sweetheart.

Trying to help his sister Janelle fit in to a new life in his care, Riggs arranges for a holiday job for her at Clarke’s bookstore. There she meets Clarke’s best friend Veronica, who becomes a mentor and surrogate big sister. But while Veronica and Janelle may have instantly meshed, Riggs and Veronica are like oil and water. Both have baggage from their past which they still carry with them, and coupled with bad first impressions, the pair are instantly at each other’s throats. But anger and frustration soon turns to lust. Which slowly turns into mutual respect, admiration, trust and love.

I loved reading Riggs’ story and getting to know what happened to shape the man he had become. And even more than that, I enjoyed watching him grow and open up. He went from someone who had completely closed himself off to any relationships to becoming a man that truly made an effort to be a part of the group and let himself be vulnerable, whether it was to a woman or his teammates. Veronica’s influence on his life was one that made him a better man.

While I did enjoy reading Riggs’ book, I felt like this one pulled double-duty. Not only was it telling Riggs’ story, but it also set up Baden’s book as well. Although he was brand new to the team when Baden suffered a career-ending injury while saving a woman from an assault, Riggs’ was by Baden in the hospital and throughout his recovery. Baden was an integral player in Riggs’ story as a sounding board and inspiration, and it seemed as if the point of Riggs’ story was two-fold. It was to help us understand this man who had a crappy childhood and still came out the other side a surprisingly caring person. But Riggs’ story also led us up to the doorstep of Baden’s book, and then pretty unceremoniously dumped us with an enormous bang.

This story was well worth the read, but that ending! That’s all I’m going to say. Sawyer Bennett really knows how to leave her readers wanting more and impatiently waiting for the next story to come.

Riggs has been an intriguing character in the Arizona Vengeance series for a while. If you, like me, cannot resist a scowly, gruff grump (with the softest, sweetest underbelly) - you're in for a real treat!

It took a while for the romance to fire up in this one. The focus of the story for the first quarter of the book was on Riggs's relationship with his sister, Jenelle. It centered on the struggles they were going through, and the bond that Jenelle formed with Veronica. Instead of feeling frustrating (like my impatient heart normally might), it added a layer of depth to this story that I really appreciated. I loved Jenelle and I especially loved Jenelle's relationship with Veronica. The fact that the love story started with them was sweetly unexpected and I loved it so much more than I would have thought.

I also loved Riggs and Veronica together. I loved how, once they finally figured out their feelings for each other, there wasn't a whole lot of angst and they stayed out of their own ways. They were sexy - heavy on the physical chemstry - but also sweet and with a lot of heart. If you are no stranger to my reviews, you know I'm a complete sucker for a man brought to his knees by a love he didn't think he even wanted and this was no exception.

I did feel like the ending was really abrupt. There were some emotional punches packed into it and then it just...ended. I would have liked a little...more from the ending I think. Something that tied the love story all together and left me feeling a little more settled. I know there will be more to come. I daresay Sawyer Bennett left me with a bit of a cliffhanger with this one, and I'm desperate not only to see a bit more of Riggs and Veronica, but to see where the series goes from here! ~ Shelly, 4 Stars

I have been waiting for a while now to hear more about Riggs and his sister Janelle, and the whole backstory as to why they are both very reserved and guarded. I also couldn't remember if it was hinted at who his love interest might be, but I was happy that it was Veronica - Clarke's best friend that works in the book shop with her. They are both very feisty and what I would consider to be an enemies to lovers romance. There was an initial reaction when they first met, and I am not sure if it was attraction or disdain. To quote Veronica, he was someone she abhorred. I am sure it wasn't that strong for Riggs, but she definitely confused and irritated him a lot.

There's no rule book to love, we wish right?!! If there was, everyone would be living a happily ever after and no one would break up or argue, but argue these two do from the start. Although in time, they both get to see another side of the other, when dealing with Janelle and her family problems which makes them have a strong imposing bond. Riggs also connects more with his team mates, especially Baden whom he respects immensely. I loved that we got to hear more about the other couples as well, and their unrelenting encouragement to see Baden walk again.

After some life shattering news, this makes Riggs realise what is in front of his eyes and under his nose and he makes about letting those he loves know it, in no uncertain terms. He goes from a brute to a sensitive romantic who delivers some panty-melting lines. He is so swoon worthy! I feel it wouldn't be a SB novel without some Netflix and chill moments.....without the Netflix! And they are on the same page as to what they want and like. I rather think they are the perfect pair! I adored the way Riggs was there for his sister, and to have Veronica do the same, just cements that they are ideal together. This is one of my favourites books in this series, and as a standalone, you could just read this one, but I highly recommend the all of the books.

Riggs was the eleventh book in Sawyer Bennett’s Arizona Vengeance series. Although not completely necessary, to fully appreciate Riggs, it helped to have read the series in order.

The long awaited Riggs Nadeau. He was the quiet, aloof, isolated, and grumpy Arizona Vengeance teammate. He was a beast on the ice and a great NHL defenseman, but off the ice he didn’t want anything to do with his teammates. We knew he was raising his seventeen year old sister and we knew there was a backstory, but until now, that’s all we knew.

Veronica Woodley was the best friend to Clark (Wylde, book seven). We knew she was a rich divorcée with a wicked and snarky sense of humor, but again that’s all we knew.

Bennett took us through both back stories while playing on the animosity between Riggs and Veronica. Although they appreciated the physical attributes of each other, they detested the other on site. It took a while to unravel the details and nuances, but in the end, it was a story of two troubled people finding they were very similar and both had a loyal heart underneath.

All in all, it was a quick, enjoyable and entertaining read. It also set up a new spinoff series, the Pittsburgh Titans. And we have none other than the Vengeance’s former goalie, Baden, to kick it off.

Riggs is our strong silent type. He is a defenseman for his NHL team, struggling to fit in with a new team, raising his 17 year old sister and just trying to get by. Veronica is a woman climbing her way back from a terrible relationship and trying to make her own way. These two cross paths when Riggs sister Janelle is hired at the bookstore where Veronica works. When Veronica takes Janelle under her wing Riggs is not welcoming at all to this. He sees Veronica as shallow, materialistic and showy but you soon find out that you can't judge a book by it's cover. This non-couple has an instant attraction which is kind of a lust/hate relationship. They do their best not to label this thing happening between them but it soon becomes the elephant in the room. Now lets add in their past comes knocking and jeopardizes Janelle's safety and welfare . This is now where we see the true colors of these characters shine. A emotional journey filled with self discovery, new beginnings and maybe true love!

ARC kindly received for an honest review.

I was intrigued really early on in this book. I instantly liked Janelle and Veronica, and the friendship they struck up. It took me while to warm up to Riggs, but in the end I reckon he was ok haha. I liked learning about the history between he and Janelle, and why she was living with him. This was brought up slightly as a mystery in the previous book, so it was good to finally delve into that story.

I remembered Veronica from one of the previous books, and I really liked her in this one. She was a great heroine in this story. There are some serious issues dealt with as well, and they have all been written well.

In enjoyed this one and by the end I was loving the friendships and connections between people, some more in particular than others. And that ending?! Holy what! I really cannot wait to read the next book in this series, as what a lead into it that was.

Review by Trinette Dungee

I growl, “We’re exclusive. If you’re fu*#ing me, you’re not seeing anybody else Not to fu*#, not to date. Got it?” she looks exasperated. “I don’t think..." I kiss her again. When I pull back, this time she’s smiling. Tipping he head so our eyes lock, she murmurs. “Fine. I got it.”

Riggs Nadeau’s life has taken a drastic turn in the last few months. One minute he was living the life playing with the San Francisco Renegades, and the next, he’s living in Arizona Playing for the Vengeance and on top of adjusting to a new team, he is now the guardian of his teenage sister. While Janelle is not a problem kid, he knows she’s been through a lot and he has to do his best to be the best guardian he can be and keep her safe. Riggs is a loner, but he really doesn’t want to be. With his former team he was social, he was friendly, he was a part of the “Team”. Now with his sister in his life full time opening himself to his new team is hard. Although they seem like a good group and they could be good for him and Janelle, he’s still very cautious of whom he lets in. When she befriends Veronica Woodley, an extremely wealthy divorcee who appears to be very materialistic and all about money his senses go on alert, because with their background that’s the last type of person he wants to have influence on his sister.

Veronica Woodley is a woman on a mission. She’s determined to distance herself from the life she once had with her ex. Finally, free from the stifling self-absorbed life, she has set her path to rediscover the person she once was, and the woman she knows she wants to be. Veronica’s marriage did a number on her. It stripped her of the person she used to be, to being judged, and thought of as high maintenance, self-absorbed and all about the money. It’s never really bothered her before because the people who know her, truly know who she is; however, Riggs’ snap judgment of her irks her to no end and if there’s one person she’d like to prove wrong is him. Especially since she really enjoys spending time with his sister Janelle.

Riggs’ and Veronica’s first encounter was a little less than polite to say the least, but the sexual tension was there in spades. After his little sister hands him his butt and explains how wrong he is about Veronica, Riggs finds himself more intrigued by her. Because they both care about Janelle and want to make her happy they try to be civil to each other, but the minute the two are in each other’s presence the snipping and snapping begins. Until that one day when one of them gives into that little thing called temptation.

"Ooh, look at the fancy, rich lady using fancy, rich words." Fancy? Rich words? “Listen, motherfucker- “That’s as much as I get out – an effort to show him I can be course-when his arms come to my shoulders and he snatches me again him. His mouth collides with mine, and there is no holding back the groan of pleasure that rips out of my throat from on his taste and touch. And, oh how, can the man kiss. “That was eye-opening. At least now I know how to shut you up”.

To say I laughed at Veronica’s response would be completely inaccurate, I HOLLERED! I wasn’t expecting it, but I damned sure enjoyed it. It’s one of the things I love about how Sawyer write’s her female characters, they have spunk and can be snarky as hell!!!!

Riggs and Veronica agree on a few things, one being they are most definitely sexually attracted to each other, neither is looking for anything serious or long term, and that they are both adults and can handle a strictly physical relationship without getting attached. As they move into this “physical relationship”, we learn that they are both much deeper people. Veronica is more than just her bank account, designer clothes, and a pretty face. She’s intelligent, caring, selfless and in need of love from a good guy. Riggs isn’t as closed off as he wants people to think, he’s a person who feels deep, and while he won’t admit it needs a circle, along with the love a good woman. Watching the relationship between these two unfold was the best. It just seemed to fall into place for the two of them. It was just so…. right. That’s not to say they didn’t hit a few snags here and there.

One would think with his past/up bringing that Riggs would be this hard-shelled person (and that’s what he’d like everyone to think), but he’s more in touch with his feelings/emotions that he though. He’s something of a romantic in an odd kind of way. On of my favorite lines from him…..

I try to reorganize my thoughts because I came in here thinking one thing, and one thing only. I would look back on my life one day and remember the exact moment I started to fall for Veronica Woodley. It was when Janelle told me what Veronica had done to protect her. And now it’s solidified. That was the very beginning, but after what Veronica just did for me, taking care of me when she was the one assaulted today while protecting my sister, I’m pretty sure I’ve fallen all the way.

From the first mention of both characters in previous books I’ve been interested in them. Especially Riggs and on some level, I knew I’d be a fan. I must admit, when I first encountered Veronica, I wasn’t too sure about her, but this book changed that. It wasn’t just Riggs and Veronica, I was a huge fan of Janelle's too.

In true Sawyer fashion, there’s always a sneak peek of what’s to come, and Baden's story is what’s coming up next. Although he has obstacles of his own being severely injured and getting through his recovery, he was instrumental in Riggs’ development. The last chapter in Riggs throws a curve ball that I don’t think Sawyer’s ever thrown before. It literally had me staring at the page like “what the hell did I just read”, so brace yourself for the ending of Riggs and prepare yourself for what Baden’s going to do to all of us!

Riggs has been a bit of a mystery on the Arizona Vengeance team. He is closed off, and hesitant to get involved with his teammates in part because he has custody of his teenage sister and some baggage from his past. As he is so closed off, he isn’t interested in forming relationships and even keeps his private life a secret from his teammates.

Veronica is a divorcee who has been hurt by a man once and isn’t interested in repeating. She is starting to get her feet back under her and figure out her own goals and dreams after leaving her marriage in which she lost most of her individuality.

When Riggs’s sister begins working at the bookstore to take Veronica’s place, the two bond in a way that Riggs can’t ignore. He also can’t ignore the attraction he has to the independent woman, despite his initial misjudgements of her character.

I struggled to like Riggs, which doesn’t really come as a big surprise to me. He has always been so closed off that it was well into the book before I really started to empathize with him. But once his walls started to come down and his backstory came out he grew on me. These two both had baggage and their initial disinterest in each other made it a challenge to fall in love with them as a couple, but I loved how both of them loved and protected his sister, which is where my own walls started coming down.

These two may have started out antagonistic and argumentative, but the fire of their initial impressions burns through to attraction and they find themselves questioning what they thought about the other and relationships. There is a lot to unpack between these two and the forced proximity they face as the story continues requires them to start to look at their “whys”. The end of this book teases Baden’s story and with all the interaction between Riggs and Baden here, I can’t wait for his story to be revealed!

5 star Review Riggs (Arizona Vengeance # ) by Sawyer Bennett

From the first chapter I was hooked on the story that Sawyer Bennett wove and couldn’t it put down. From the first time he was mentioned in the series I was intrigued by Riggs Nadeau and knew that the woman who captured his heart would need to be someone pretty special and that is certainly Veronica Woodley.

Riggs has custody of his seventeen year old sister Janelle and after a horrific childhood, he is determined to do right by her. He keeps to himself and doesn't get involved with the team dynamics any more than he is required too. However after a heart to heart with a fellow teammate Riggs realizes that he can no longer keep himself apart from the team and finds himself slowly but surely opening up. These guys are a family and Riggs begins to see how supportive they truly are.

Keeping Janelle out of trouble is his number one priority and he arranges for her to work at Clarke’s Corner where she meets Veronica. With his travel schedule for the team Riggs is worried about Janelle and tries to find role models for her. He is certain that Veronica will not be a good influence and tries to shut their friendship down.

From the moment he meets Veronica the sparks fly and it is obvious that there is intense chemistry sizzling between them. As Riggs gets to know her, he realizes that there is a lot more to the woman than he initially thought and his admiration and attraction grows.

This enemies to friends to lovers story was such an emotional journey that was not as straight forward as you would expect. Riggs has a heart of gold and underneath the lone wolf exterior is a man who deserves happiness. Veronica has been through so much and is a survivor; I loved her strength and determination. The friendship forged with Janelle was heart warming and added an additional layer to the story.

When his past comes back to haunt him will Riggs be able to protect the women he loves or will it all fall apart?

ARC received from author for an honest review

I say it all the time, that Sawyer Bennett could write the chinese takeaway menu and I would read it.

However, to me, I think we should be getting to the end of the Arizona Vengeance series.

And we are getting there. And to be brutally honest, I was only wanting to read Riggs as a stepping stone to get to Baden, but I a so glad that I did read Riggs' story.

After the last couple of Vengeance books that were not favourites of mine, it was good to see Ms Bennett back up there with stories that, to me, did the guys justice.

I totally get Riggs' standoffishness and his title as the team loner, and I loved seeing him come back to life with the help of his sister and Veronica,

You remember her? The rich lady (and best friend) at Clarke's book shop. This really isn't a love at first sight - heck, not even like at first sight, but that was what this gunshy pair both needed.

And that ending - well, let's just say that I NEVER read bonus chapters/into to the next book at the end of books, yet this time I did, and I NEEEEEED Baden's book ASAP!

When I had the opportunity, I did a re read of this book and added the audio. It’s the first time I’ve listened to the narrator Connor Chais, and it won’t be my last. His voice is swoony as well as sexy, so he captured Riggs character completely. The same could be said for Savannah Peachwood, she got all the emotions and sassiness perfectly.

Riggs (grab your copy https://amzn.to/3mGFxC8) by Sawyer Bennett is such an amazing story... this one pulled me in from the opening lines and kept me glued to my kindle as Riggs' backstory, something that was "teased" for much of the Arizona Vengenece series unfolded.

Riggs' first meeting with Veronica is hysterical and with so much taken out of context the reader might think how do these two even end up together...

Please do not fret, Bennett's talent SHINES though as she feels back both characters' layers of hurt and they start to connect.... the sex scenes are off the chart as the emotion as so high in this one...

And well READ THE BOOK ...

Riggs' half-sister, Janelle, plays an integral role in this story, from the why she is with him, to the emotions he feels around that, to how it brings Riggs and Veronica together layers this story in a way that sets it apart from so many romance stories.

As Riggs and Veronica find their way together.... as a reader you will think the use of the media is done... that is until the characters see the TV screen playing in the bar...

Than... than....this book goes to a whole new level and for the 1st time I can't remember how long I read the TEASER in the back... in this case, the prologue to BADEN

Love this book and am excited for more Bennett hockey romance to come!

I need BADEN now.. did I say NOW... --> https://amzn.to/3nM2sLq

Because OMG that is one heck of a lead-in to a Spin-Off Series!

The Arizona Vengeance has been so fun to read, it was filled with many memorable love stories ... having said that I am CRAZY excited for the emotions coming in The Pittsburgh Titans Series (PREORDER NOE https://amzn.to/2Y60xIN)

The Arizona Vengeance are back and Riggs is perhaps my favorite in the series! This enticing hockey sports romance was so engaging and flowed so well that I easily lost myself with in the pages and read the book in one sitting. If you have enjoyed this author’s previous books, then Riggs is one that you do not want to miss!

An intriguing hero, Riggs experienced a lot of changes in a short period of time. As he was newly traded to the Arizona Vengeance, he also unexpectedly became the guardian to his 17 year-old sister, Janelle. In adjusting to going from big brother to parent figure, it was endearing to see Riggs interact with his sister and his love for her. I do feel that as the story progressed, the author did an excellent job with his character development.

As for Veronica, I absolutely loved her! She is not the stereotypical rich divorcee. She is a tad jaded and very cautious when it comes to matters of the heart. As I learned more about her, I just wanted to wrap her into a big hug. She is a kind-hearted soul and is the type of woman I would like to have as a friend.

Veronica and Riggs seem like an unlikely pair but they are perhaps more alike than they are different. With misguided assumptions, they don’t exactly start off on the right foot and frequently butt heads which made for some humorous dialogue and interactions. The chemistry between then is off the charts and as things evolve, will they take a chance on love?

I often avoid romance novels with children in them, but I have to say that I adored Janelle. A true teenager, this girl experienced some upheaval in her life and her resilience is remarkable. It was fun to see the dynamic between her and her brother and it was also easy to understand why she and Veronica connected.

Riggs is book 11 in the Arizona Vengeance series. It can be read as a standalone, but you will see a fair amount of cameo appearances from couples in the pervious books. Towards the end of the book something surprising happens and let’s just say I cannot wait to see what this author has planned next.

I voluntarily read an early version of this novel. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

Oh how I've been anticipating the standoffish, grumpy, broody man that is Riggs Nadeau and I can honestly say this is my favorite book in this series!

Riggs has been somewhat of an unknown since being traded to the Arizona Vengeance and gaining custody of his teenage sister. He's been hesitant to build relationships with his teammates from the fear of having to unload baggage from his past. Veronica is a divorcee who absolutely doesn't believe in true love and relationships after hers was obliterated by her ex-husband. What happens when these two are forced together from a relationship between Veronica and Janelle, Riggs sister? You'll just have to read this INCREDIBLE enemies to lovers story about healing and learning to trust again.

Riggs is book #11 in Sawyer Bennett's Arizona Vengeance Series. As a huge fan of Sawyer Bennett and her hockey romances anytime I pick up a book in this series I am eager to jump in and fall back in love with a world I am already familiar with. Riggs' book was no different. I was easily drawn to his moody/broody ways and was eager to peel back his layers and learn more about him seen as up until now we knew very little. Riggs is a mysterious guy. He has custody of his 17 year old sister, Janelle and has always been pretty reserved and quiet on the team. In previous books in the series he would attend all the team events but keep to himself not forming many attachments. His focus is his sister and getting her settled into her new life in Arizona. Janelle has been through so much, and my heart went out to her and Riggs as her back story is revealed. Slowly but surely Riggs realizes he needs to start opening up to his teammates and be brought into the hockey family fold. But first, his priority is keeping Janelle out of trouble and is able to set her up with a job in Clarke’s book shop. Clarke is the girlfriend of his teammate, Aaron Wylde. Here Janelle meets Clarke’s best friend Veronica. I loved the special friendship and connection they formed. At first, Riggs is completely against their friendship. He makes some big assumptions and believes Veronica can be nothing but a bad influence on Janelle. The hate to love vibe was strong in this one!! The chemistry, the tension and their banter made for some crazy fireworks when they finally give into the attraction! I immediately fell for Veronica. At first she comes across as a greedy, wealthy divorcee but there is SO much more to her underneath her exterior. She has a heart of gold and the way she steps in and puts herself in the line of fire when Riggs and Janelle’s past comes knocking was incredible! Veronica is as fierce as they come when it comes to protecting those she loves and I adored that about her. I loved the dynamic between these characters. Riggs’ character the most as we see the most growth in him. The way he learns to open up and trust again was just beautiful. One of my favourite things in this book and series is the friendship between the guys on the team and my heart was so happy to get to see the friendship between Riggs and Baden. I have been anticipating Baden’s story for a while and I love the bit more we learn about him and cannot wait for his story to come next!

This book had its ups and downs. Certainly not what I expected going in. This was hardly a romance and what there was of it, at near the 75% point, wasn't impressive. In fact Riggs just had a hookup with someone on an away game, came home and about to have sex with Veronica, but darn, used his last pocket condom on the hook-up. Ewww! There's angry hate sex with Veronica after a while, then random sex. Has no clue how to have a relationship but decides to give it a try near the end of the story. Underwhelming.

The plus of the story was Veronica ad Janelle's relationship. Veronica takes Janelle under her wing and gives her the friendship and understanding she needs. Their bonding was special. As a matter of fact this takes up the majority of the story, and I was fine with that. Because I wasn't impressed with the lack of spark between Veronica/Riggs.

Thankfully this is the last book in the series. It's definitely run its course and goes out with a whimper instead of a bang.

Injured but healing hockey player Baden is still the player without a story. Last but not least, the author begins a new series starting with Baden in the near future.

***5 Stars***

I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Riggs book, because like Tacker, I found his less than social nature intriguing and needed to know why. And I must say, while heartbreaking and a bit horrifying on a certain level, finding out the reasons why and watching as he, along with Janelle and Veronica, became more to each other and broke walls down, was all kinds of goodness.

As much as I loved, and ended up adoring Riggs, I seriously wanted to Gibbs smack the man ~ thankfully he had a few people already in his life to do that. But he is all kinds of protective, a bit untrusting and a bit reactive, but still a really good man. I ADORED Veronica from the start. Sweet, snarky, observant and owning all that she’d done, who she was and determined to make the rest of her life her own.

Their journey to their HEA was a fun one, frustrating at times, but fun and, crazily enough, honest. Both Riggs and Veronica have quite a bit of baggage they are holding on to and they need time to work through it all, which they do, and before they know it, they catch feelings and that’s when things get interesting. I loved their flow, the chemistry between them was intense and I loved how Janelle was the hinge that brought them together and, in the end, I was very happy with where they ended up.

And then there is Janelle. She not only play a huge part in Riggs and Veronica’s journey, but had one of her own and I really enjoyed watching her become comfortable in her own skin and start to find her voice.

This was a great addition to the series. There are some triggers in here, so reader beware, but they are necessary to the growth of all the characters. And speaking of characters. I loved catching up with various members of the Vengeance crew and their women (at least those who have them). But Baden totally stole the show and considering what happens at the end of this one and then the epilogue, I need his book, like, yesterday!

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the eleventh book in the series - and every single one is an amazing read, so if you are not up-to-date - then I recommend you get caught up, and enjoy every second of the process. Any fan will know that Riggs has been the solitary, antisocial and difficult new team mate, completely out of step with the rest of the Vengeance family. They are not giving up on him, but he really needs to get with the programme before it affects his performance too - and finally we get to understand some of his hesitancy in making connections.

SO, it turns out that Riggs is really a good guy ... just well hidden under his brusque manner, and his refusal to get close to his team mates. He has his seventeen year old sister, Janelle living with him, and when we learn why, and what he did to care for her, already our opinion starts to change. His sharp hate/hate attitude towards Veronica is much less appealing, but as we all know, sometimes the distance between love and hate is a mere hairs-breathe.

I loved spending time in Clarke's bookshop again - genius move of the author's to bring us back into that safe and very friendly space - and give Rigg's sister a chance to spread her wings in a protected environment. Veronica, Clarke's best friend and free labour, finds herself training up Janelle before she goes off to finally finish her degree. Again, we learn more about her, and why she is so certain that she will never trust the attentions of a man again.

As the chemistry between the two of them takes up a lot of their thoughts, we are just waiting for the explosion! I loved every bit of their awakening to what life could be like ... even if there were a few tears along the way.

Riggs is the team loner. He hasn’t really connected with many of his new teammates since joining. His focus is taking care of his younger sister, Janelle, and making sure that she is adjusting to her new life with him. He is a great brother for doing what he did for her and really for always being there for her, despite the age difference between the two siblings. Veronica hasn’t had it great when it comes to relationships, but she is determined to be able to take care of herself and not rely on others anymore, especially a man.

When Riggs and Veronica first meet it is far from like at first sight. These two really did not like each other. They had formed opinions about each other, well mostly Riggs abut Veronica and didn’t bother to go further. However, things slowly shifted between the two of them and that fine line between hate and love slowly blurs and the chemistry that was buried comes to the surface.

I loved Janelle. She has experienced so much throughout her life and way more than any 17 year old should ever experience. Though there is tension at times, I loved the relationship between her and Riggs. She knew that he always had her best interest in mind. I also love the relationship that Janelle formed with Veronica. In a way, the two of them could really connect on a different level and she quickly became another person that Janelle could reply on in her life.

I love that Riggs story sets up future stories in the series and I can’t wait to see how everything plays out with those books.

If you’re looking for an enemies to lovers, sports romance this is one to read.
