I’m only beginning my professional life coaching journey and this book helped to frame what I’ll need to get started and offered useful tools and techniques that I’ll be able to use both in the short and long terms. It isn’t a “read and shelve” book. I’ll be able to refer to this book for as long as I decide to coach. It’s an easy read and hits the right amount of “technical” detail to get and keep you engaged.

Concise - no fluff

If you want to quickly learn some effective coaching tools without slogging through hundreds of pages of fluff, then this is the book for you. Almost every paragraph had some new idea or effective tool to share. This book will help you save time reading and studying, so you can spend more time coaching others!

Good book for getting started

Easy to read and understand. It does not go very deep into any one area, but gives you enough to know the big picture and decide what areas you want to develop further.

A great resource for any coach to have on hand. It reads like a quick how-to guide that covers the fundamentals of coaching. I enjoyed it and will certainly utilize the questions and frameworks included.

Was good overall regarding concept of coaching and methods used. Good questions too but felt book could have been organized better to be a better reference after reading.

Great intro to the field

In preparing my self to transition from a retired chief exective into becoming an executive coach, this book was recommended to me by my own executive coach who felt that I should enter the field myself. Read several other books but this one is among the best I have read on the subject. Not a lot of theoretical concepts but practical, easy to follow steps and tool to which I could already relate and draw on from my previous experiences as an executive who is passionate about helping bring out the best in others. What I particularly liked in this book was the summary points at the end of each chapter. So halfway through the reading, I decided to first read the summary pints at the end then go back and read and understand the detailed concepts in the chapter. I found that very helpful. Good starting book, as well as a reference, for new executive coaches. Highly recommended.
