SILICON Northern California's hub of technology is where the birth of the integrated circuit, or the "chip," took place. The Author, John East witnessed and participated in the process. From the creative engineering incubator at Fairchild, those innovators spread throughout the Santa Clara Valley. What followed would change the world forever while turning a sleepy farming community into the world's foremost technological center.
From this insider's view, we see the personalities, politics and innovation that made Silicon Valley what it is today. John East saw it all, and reveals it in this authentically penned memoir with pictures and antidotes from one of the engineers that contributed to the industry that gave us computers, smart phones and social media. Mr. East's folksy humor, blended with his engineering mind, unveils this fascinating story of the integrated circuit. Meet the people that changed the way we communicate and work and entertain ourselves.
The bonus from this reading is that the reader gets the wisdom and insight into the "How to do it right" culture of Silicon Valley's Tech industry.
Such a great book with valuable nuggets all through. Silicon Valley truly has a rich and inspiring history the foundation of which is defined by brilliant engineers. It's not easy to find this precious information elsewhere and some of which is directly witnessed by the author. I am glad this information was captured in the book. Interesting to learn where the first semiconductor company was formed, and how other significant companies like Fairchild, AMD, IDT, and Intel emerged. The book is an easy read with great pictures!
The book mostly reduces to a mere list of episodes and people, that somehow fit a little with the bigger silicon valley history, but somehow a bit deprived of the personal emotions of the author. The chronological order does not seem strictly respected, and the structure of the book does not help retaining any useful information. I could not advise this book in all honesty.
An interesting first hand account of various people who contributed to the development of the semiconductor industry. It gives credit to many folks who changed the course of history with technology
