I was born in 1950 in Lancashire and attended a boy’s grammar school. After qualifying as an English and Drama teacher in 1972, I worked in the North East of England for the next 35 years. During that time I did write, mainly plays, pantos and musicals for the students at the three schools in which I worked.

When I stopped teaching I set up my own consultancy firm and worked as an adviser in schools and colleges in the North East of England. The new Conservative Government ended that avenue of work and in 2010 I found that I had time on my hands; having started work at the age of 15 I found the lack of work not to my liking and used the time to research the Roman invasion of Britain and begin to create a novel. The result was The Sword of Cartimandua.

My decision to begin writing was one of the best I have ever taken.

On the Eyes of a Great Soldier

While it is, of course, historical fiction, it is a plausible rendition of the individual acts and actions at Waterloo.

My first serious study of Napoleon and the Napoleonic It was at West Point about 1962 that I had my first serious brush with him
in one of the fabulous Art of War Books and Plates assembled by the Department of Military Art. And, though I always knew how Napoleon’s escapades ended, I read many more Novels, Fictional and Historical with an interest of gaining more information about the individuals who participated in the many Campaigns. And I found Waterloo to be the most interning Battle.

About 20 years ago, I had the opportunity to spend a day walking the Waterloo Battlefield and Tour the Prominent Facilities. Added much to my perspective of Napoleon and the Battle of Waterloo (or Mont St Jean)

Griff Hosker captured Waterloo perfectly. No surprise there as his many other Novels have done the same. I am addicted, having read every Kindle Book he has written, and eagerly awaiting his next Release,,,

Good read but continuity errors.
At the end of book 9 “The Road to France” Matthews was a Lt. Colonel & Sharp was promoted to Sergeant Major. In this book Matthews is back to a Major & Sharp a regular Sergeant.
Matthews had purchased and renovated a farm near London & employed ex-soldiers to run it. Both Matthews and Sharp were married with children. In this book there is no mention of neither the farm nor families. In fact they both are out of the military and living in Sicily.
There is a short story “The Spy Catcher” between the books 9 and 10 but I can’t see it encompassing these major plot changes.
The Kindle edition needs more proofing. Numerous errors throughout. I even checked that it wasn’t self published. Sword Books needs to do a better job.

Compelling read. As with all of Griff’s books can not skip a page. The detail of the Waterloo battle was incredible.Am taking his advice and requested Cornwall’s ‘Waterloo’ from the library.Pleased to see that the fictional protagonist has his life’s threads tidied e.g McGregors.
Fortunately I have a couple more of Griff’s series to read. Always feel bereft when I finish a set. Well done and thanks very much Griff.

Very Well Done

Mr. Hosker never ceases to amaze. He built up precisely to the climatic battle. Here we have an enormous field of men in various statures and yet they all fit and you understand their duties.. It cost me sleep but it was worth it. When you think it is over, it isn't. The battle scenes are epic.

Magic

Loved this series as I did all of Griff’s series. Well written, great characters, lots of action and he makes the history come alive. I now play a wee game of spot the cliche, like wind going through you, eat a horse with skin on, etc as they occur in almost every novel. I’m being over picky. A fab read

Great Writer!!

I love Griffs style of writing. The story always moves along and he uses just enough of the detail you need to get the picture. His Main Characters always show Integrity and Honesty which is why I've bought close to a Hundred of Griffs books.
