Mój zryty mózg zamiast cieszyć się lekturą (bo jest całkiem fajna i zabawna), cały czas krzyczał: gdzie są rodzice? Co jest nie tak z tymi dorosłymi? Jakim cudem ta dyrektorka w ogóle zarządza szkołą, a nie siedzi w pierdlu za znęcanie się?! Także nie, nie kupiła mnie, bo zachowania tu przestawione są naprawdę niepokojące i nawet wyjaśnienie tego wszystkiego nie zamazało tego efektu. Raczej mnie to rozczarowało, bo w ogóle się nie przejęłam.

Fajnie się zaczęła, ale z czasem zaczęła mnie męczyć. Doceniam przesłanie tej książki, bo jest naprawdę potrzebne, zwłaszcza w tych czasach, ale kompletnie nie kupuję sposobu, w jaki zostało to przedstawione.

Rounded up from 4.5. This humorous retelling of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde communicates a much needed message about perfection. Jaclyn is a Type A kid trying to get everything right. She is so embarrassed by any failures that she hides away the evidence in a shed in their backyard. One day multiple disasters strike and Jaclyn is hunting for her bunny Charles in an abandoned house. The house once belonged to a scientist and in his lab is a recipe for a Perfection Potion. Jaclyn decides to mix up a batch and the results are very unexpected. Along with her best friends, Fatima and Paige, Jaclyn struggles against her alter-ego Jackie to make things right again. Reluctant readers will love all the mishaps and hijinks that spur the plot forward. They will also learn that it is better to be the best version of yourself and learn from the mistakes you make.

Była to równa i ciekawa książka przez cały czas. Oczywiście miała postoje, lecz było ich mało. Bardzo polubiłam bohaterów, a w szczególności Jaclyn. Klimat powieści był mroczny i jestem jego fanką. Nie było dużo zwrotów akcji, ale pomimo tego jest to przyjemna książka. Zakończenie było spoko i mam do niego ambiwalentne podejście.

Bardzo interesująco przedstawiona została historia i inspiracja klasykiem mnie wręcz zachwyca. Przyjemnie się czytało i szczerze, to nawet byłam ciekawa co się dalej będzie działo, a finału się kompletnie nie spodziewałam wiec jestem pod wrażeniem.
Najbardziej irytującą postacią była dyrektorka and no one can change my mind.
Uważam, że ta książka jest świetną rozrywką na rozluźnienie i mimo, że wiekowo jest przeznaczona dla dzieci to styl pisania nie ma nic do zarzucenia. i przekaz>>>>>>

Picked up this book purely because of the name, but I actually ended up enjoying it quite a lot. It was a cute story of how trying to be perfect can ruin you, and that it's okay to make some mistakes, because that makes you human.
Jaclyn was absolutely adorable, and I love her two friends. I wish I could adopt all three of them!!
Jackie on the other hand was terrifying girl needs to chill

Strasznie irytowało mnie jedno zdanie powtarzające się w każdym/co drugim rozdziale "Przecież jesteś Jaclyn Hyde, na pewno świetnie sobie poradzisz"
Trochę absurdalna wydawała mi się postać dyrektorki. Co prawda na koniec to nabrało sensu, ale serio nie chce mi się wierzyć, że nikt z rodziców albo uczniów nie próbował interweniować

Yayyyyy! FINALLY A PROPER, FEMALE, YOUNG, AND MUSLIM, SUPPORTING CHARACTER THAT IS ACTUALLY DONE RIGHT. :P

I will admit though, that her nickname given to her as "Fati" (for Fatima) was a lil' bit too much, say?

Since it's October and I've had this book sitting on my shelf for a while now (as my dad tells me that its beyonddddd overdue) I have decided that it is only fitting to read it and return it now. L.O.L.

Middle School flash fiction is so fun, I completely forgot.

There were some points of this book that felt as though it were dragging a bit, like when I saw that there were eighteen chapters, I knew immediately that it would end with twenty, and well, the story by then was just-BORING. (please, please, please authors just finish your dratted story)

It was honestly a pretty good retelling, I found the characters to be super original and creative, I was able to remember everything pretty well and yeah.

I like how the Muslim girl saved the day. Yay.

There humor wasn't spot-on, but it WAS something. 🙏🏼

' "Bow down to my masterpiece," he shouted. ' 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽😭😭😭

And, MAN, that principal!!!

"Miss Carver was throwing a dart at a board covered in yearbook pictures. The dart hit the bull's-eye, puncturing poor Zeke Trimble's nose." 🤣🤣🤣

The parents of the main character felt super tacky and cliche, I also didn't like how they apologized to HER in the end when really it was HER fault to begin with. (people, please start recognizing your misgivings)

One of the side stories for this book, was one about the protagonist lying about a problem and then blaming some other kid about it, which had a huge lasting affect afterwards, but later got resolved in the end, so I actually REALLY liked that part more then the original story idea in the first place (one of those 'you don't always have to be perfect').

This side story resolved around a character named Shane and that felt super weird since I had a classmate named Shane and I couldn't stop picturing him in that character's place...

There was this one part where they have a beach that's all trashed up and the characters kind of just accept it (aside from the reasoning given about how the water waves wash up all of the trash to that shoreline) I felt as though this should have been talked about more seriously and probably resolved instead...

The apples got me so hungry and juicy.

This cute middle grade novel was based on The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Jaclyn Hyde is an 8th grader who strives for perfection in everything she does. One bad day, she burns a batch of cookies, messes up the potion for her volcano science fair project and forgets to close her rabbits cage and her pet rabbit runs away. She is determined to make things right. While searching for her lost rabbit, she goes in to Enfield Manor, the creepy abandoned house that scientist Dr. Enfied used to live in. While there, she discovers a recipe for "Perfect Potion." She takes the recipe and tries to duplicate it, in the hopes that it will make her even more perfect.

The potion is not what it appears to be. Shorty after taking it, she begins to experience episodes where she can't control her behavior. She becomes "Jackie" an evil version of herself. She steals a tray of brownies to make up for the cookies she burnt and she ruins a student's art work so she can be the best in the class. She completely loses control and each time her behavior is gets more extreme, like locking the lead in the school play in a closet, so she can have the lead!

When Jaclyn and her friends discover a way to reverse the effects, they have to find a way to get Jaclyn to take it. It seems that "Jackie" likes being around and doesn't want to go away!

This was a cute story that I think middle school students will enjoy. It was a quick read and had some funny scenes. The overall message was a good one for kids to read about. It teaches you that you don't have to be perfect at everything you do. Trying to be perfect can make you unhappy. So it's OK to be yourself and it's okay to make mistakes, because that's what makes you human.

To była naprawdę piękna książka dla dzieci z ważnym przesłaniem. Jeśli będę rekomendowała komukolwiek literaturę dziecięcą, do na pewno polecę Wydawnictwo Zygzaki. Moja trzecia książka od nich; każda cudowna.

Na samym początku trudno mi się było wgryźć w fabułę, ale z czasem coraz łatwiej mi to szło. Bardzo podobało mi się zakończenie. Cukierkowe, bo to lit. dziecięca, niemniej płynie z niego nauka.

Bycie idealnym nigdy się nie sprawdza. Po prostu bądźmy sobą.

Polecam. Chciałam przeczytać z racji na to, jak bardzo podobał mi się „Doktor Jekyll i pan Hyde”; liczyłam na coś podobnego. Dostałam kompletnie inny klimat i inny morał, acz wciąż bardzo mi się podobało.

Ta książka była okej, jednak czegoś mi w niej brakowało. Język jest bardzo dziecięcy, ale tak do przesady. To mnie trochę irytowało. Po drugie - ta fantastyka była dziwna (bardzo). Zakończenie było zaskakujące - nieprzewidywalne i dobre, a tego nie spodziewałam się po tej lekturze. Bardzo szybko i dosyć fajnie się ją czytało, taka fajna książeczka, jednak raczej nie pozostanie mi na długo w pamięci.

I thought that more could have been done with the idea but overall, this retelling/inspired-by story is pretty good.
The rabbit was a bit too much of a plot device when there was already the school paper that could have been used and was stronger if I'm honest.

Honestly, the only reason I picked up this book today while I was wandering around B&N was because my name was spelled correctly in the title! And I’m so glad I did!
Jaclyn Hyde wants everything to be perfect, and even tries a “Perfection Potion”. 🧪
This book is a non-stop adventure about friendship, forgiveness, and figuring out that you don’t have to be perfect all the time!

Vă mai spun doar că Jaclyn Hyde este o carte deosebit de simpatică. Deși în mod normal este recomandată copiilor de peste 9 ani, Denisa a savurat-o din plin. Până și mie mi-a plăcut povestea. Este amuzantă și drăguță și, privind în substratul acesteia, aș spune chiar că poate fi o lecție pentru cei mici. Așadar, v-o recomand cu drag, pentru copiii voștri sau chiar pentru voi, dacă aveți chef de o lectură super ușoară și simpatică.

To była absolutnie fenomenalna książka. Podobała mi się bardziej niż oryginał mimo że mogła mieć trochę więcej mroczniejszych szczegółów to uważam że była ona idealna w swojej roli i sprawdzi się zarówno starszym jak i przede wszystkim młodszym. Temat perfekcjonizmu i wywieranej presji naprawdę bardzo dobrze przedstawiony i sama mimo że jestem starsza od naszych bohaterów mogę się z nimi utożsamić.
