A new type of enemy is emerging. A new type of weapon is needed to fight back.
The new age of global peace continues, spearheaded by the combined efforts of the U.S. government and GlobaTech Industries. But a storm is coming that will threaten everything people have worked so hard to rebuild. When the president commissions a new initiative to help lead the charge, there's only one man he wants for the job.
Having barely recovered from the recent events in Tokyo that saw him almost killed, Adrian Hell is summoned to Washington. Still desperate to finally leave his old life of violence behind him, the legendary assassin is called on to serve his country and fight to protect the world he inadvertently helped create.
Torn between his desire for a peaceful retirement and the irresistible urge to do what's right, he realises his toughest choice is really no choice at all.
WOW!!! Adrian Hell is Back with a Bang! A little older, a little banged up after his recent near death experience in Tokyo, but still has that fire and shine in his eye to do what is Right for his country. He has been thinking of retiring, leaving the violence behind, when he receives a call from none other than the President of the United States. Adrian is offered to aid his country, legally, by running a special unit only answering to the President...No red tape, no one second guessing Adrian's decisions.. The world has changed, there is peace now, but the enemy is becoming more intelligent, and the President needs a team to be ahead of the game. Adrian is given a list of ten of the Best the US has to offer, then must pick just three. All the recruitment and training is up to him, he must train them in his own way of operating, remove many things their brains have learned while in their regular jobs. And when they are ready, the missions will follow. Man have I Missed Adrian Hell!! This is a smashing story with intense action, amazing characters, feelings of fear, loss and then surprise as this author brings you through descriptive episodes and wild problems with finesse.I received an ARC from the author and offer You my honest thoughts and feelings in this review.
Adrian Hell's last mission nearly killed him. Sore and tired he and Ruby, his fighting girlfriend only want to rest and time to recover. But when President Schutz sends for him to do a job, its because he knows Adrian is the best. Adrian is given a list of people the President knows as best fighter hes to pick out three to train for the best. The job is to do with GobaTeck. With the help of Ruby to check their records, they pick, Rayne, Link and Jessie. This book is charged with non-stop action from England, to France, then Rome where they finally work out what the main enemy is going out to do. With no time to spare the five fight for their own lives plus hundreds more. When its over, Adrian gets another call from Moses Buchanan asking for him and the team to do an assassin. So we readers are on for another great read. Highly recommended read.

This is a difficult book to review since I really loved some part of it and hated others.
What I liked:
Some parts of it were really fast-paced. The action scenes were normally quite good.
What I hated:
Too many cliches and worn phrases.
Much of the "banter" seemed really flat.
Repeated references to "4/17" -- which might be fine if I had read the book or books where this event occurred. I didn't and the sparse clues to what happened did little to enlighten me.
I read 20% and actually the story hasn't started yet. The only activity so far is talking. It is still not clear what the main story is. Still preparing. When there is already a description of an activity, it's descriptions at a level that is really an insult to intelligence. A book intended for children up to the age of 15. Certainly not for adults. No wonder Amazon gave it away for free. That's about what the book is worth.
I like to read books with people and story lines which are believable. This I not the case. 5 people who go around killing a lot of people, smashing cars etc. is the story line. I guess the old adage is that you get what you pay for is true. This was a no charge download and certainly not worth a free read.
"WWJD?" If You Know What This Means You Are Ready To Read This Book
If You Do Not...Then Begin Your Reading With Book #1, AND Read Your Way Through The Series (There Are Only 8 Books In Front Of It". Why? Please Read On and Learn.
"The Devil You Know" is the "Last" and "Latest" offering in the "Adrian Hell Series" by author James P. Sumner, and like the earlier 8 books which I've read, and reviewed here and/or on Amazon in the past, well deserves the 5 Stars I've given it.
"Adrian Hell", our now aging, and healing, assassin, has been called upon by the President for a new task, perhaps his most challenging one yet, (in ways you shall discover), but is he ready?
Is he up to it? > "WWJD?"
To find the answers you'll have to read the book as I'm not going to furnish the answers thus "spoiling" your reading. I will however say that between the pages you will meet "Assassin Clubs", Battle New Villain(s), and Uncover New Threats. All of which will keep you "Turning Pages" and "Burning The Midnight Oil" until you read those fatal words "The End".
I HIGHLY Recommend this book, but again, if you are a new reader do yourself a favor and read the first 8 books you will enjoy "The Devil You Know" that much more.
Yes, I am an Advanced Copy Reader, and therefore I received a “free copy” of this book, in exchange for agreeing to write, and post, an “honest” review. I was neither offered nor did I accept any other consideration to influence my review, nor do I have any financial motive for its success or failure. This review is based solely upon my personal subjective enjoyment of the book.
Thank you for reading. Hopefully, you have found this helpful.
I received a review copy from the author at my request and this is my honest opinion. Once again Mr. Sumner has created an action story that leaves the reader breathless. His characters are authentic and relatable, even though they inhabit a world slightly different than ours. The dialogue here flows naturally and smoothly as usual. I think one of Mr. Sumner's best talents is his ability to put the reader right into the middle of the action and create a feeling of being part of the story. His description of scenes, actions, and people is never over-blown and creates a totally new world in the reader's mind; one that I found difficult to leave when other things needed to be done. I wanted to stay and see what was going on with Adrian and his team. Now I must go back to patiently (impatiently) awaiting the next book. I highly recommend this series
This newest book published (July 19, 2021) by James P. Sumner is hard-hitting.
Adrian Hell has learned to face life head on. He knows what it's like to be hit hard and left for dead. Even though the President of these United States of America doesn't like his methods, he knows Adrian is the only person for the job he has in mind.
I loved how the author intermixed hard-hitting action and gut-wrenching emotion throughout this story. He also does a marvelous job of interspersing the bits of information from past events mentioned in previous episodes of the "Adrian Hell/GlobaTech/Roach universe".
Disclaimer: I was provided with and voluntarily read an Advanced Reader Copy of this story. I have added the published copy, from the author's website, to my growing collection of thrillers.
The President calls Adrian Hell and asks him to head and train for a new unit called Project Blackstar. This unit will answer to the President directly without the red tape. This is a secret unit to take out villains of the people. Adrian and Ruby go to Paris to get some intel on a subject. Things turn sour as they are the hunted by assassins. A lot of action in trying to stop an old enemy. A page turning thriller.
Adrian Hell is a one of a kind assassin/hero who is doing the right thing to the bad guys trying to destroy the country he loves. He’s got a team to train and a global threat to stop with no time to spare. Action abounds in another epic story as he travels the globe to help save humanity. With his quick wit and even quicker skill set he takes you on a Hella ride. I m excited for book 10.
Another great, non stop action read. I have read each book in order and have never been disappointed. It was a good idea to introduce the new characters and collectively they form a great team. I am delighted to see there is another book, Become Death. That will be my next project. A big thank you to the author James P Sumner for all his hard work in producing this series. A well deserved 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
As with all the Adrian Hell books it is about bad guys being taken on by other bad guys fighting for the good. This time round is no different , except this time Adrian has a team of like minded individuals to assist along the way At the end it seems a tad contrived. The danger comes from an area, which just so happens to be the area of expertise of one of the new team. Adrian on his own, no chance, with this person on the team, no problem
Have had the great fortune of an Advanced copy of this the latest in the Adrian Hell series of books . New beginnings and new escapades to handle . I found the story the new characters very good and the story line engrossing and attention holding until the very end congratulations on another very readable book . Buy your copy and enjoy, you want regret it
Brilliant read great to see our Adrian again bit older and battered but still our man .Love Josh is still in his head and the bond those two had .Adrian has to relive those moments of Josh's death soo sad !Great read and very well written and soo glad he has Ruby to keep him on the level .Looking forward to next book well done James !!
This was an excellent idea ,to have Black star formed. This reminded me of why I enjoyed this series ,and the author. I suspect I know what's coming, and who it is. Sorta wish Josh was still around, not just in his head. Can't wait for Adrian and his team to really blow her up this time. Peace. From a loyal reader .
Adrian Hell having survived Tokyo, is summoned by POTUS to start a new chapter of his life, by leading a new team and passing on his unique skill set. Different type of Hell book, as he becomes a team player and leader, rather than a one man wrecking machine, although he still manages a bit of that!!
Do you like action? Do you like a well paced story? Do you like a bit of humour? If the answer to all of the above is Yes, go and buy this book! If the answer to all of the above is No, still go and buy this book! Another stonking read in the series. James Sumner gets better and better with each book.
Fast-paced, exciting thriller. Adrian Hell is commissioned by the President of the United States to recruit and develop a small, but super efficient and extraordinarily skilled group of people. The story is primarily set in London, UK but spans Paris and Rome and describes how Adrian,, Ruby and the newly recruited 3-person team successfully take on a group (remnant of the Order) of extreme evil-doers.
Adrian Hell and Ruby, given carte blanche to create a team to fight whatever threat the President pits them against. Plenty of action and shooting people, only the bad guys though. He picks three operatives from different branches of the forces to help him and is pleased with the results, all he needs now is more missions to showcase their capabilities.
One of James Summer best books ever. Explosive reading. Action from start to finish. Great storyline, well written. A new question comes to mind with this book. Adrian and Ruby is complimenting each other. New team new form of deals playground. Well done James
I couldn't put it down !! Finished it at 4am !! I'm going to go back and re-read a couple of Adrian Hell's previous books because I now have a better understanding of his "inner Satan" !! Thanks also for making me think about how the future might change for 'making war' !! Thanks, James P. Sumner, I like your Style !!
Another blockbuster episode! As Adrian moves from the heights to the depths and back again, developing his own team to deal with the evolving threats. 5 stars!
It feels like forever since I read the last Adrian Hell book. And, as usual, after having read this latest I am going to reread the entire series from the beginning. So entertaining!!
Sumner has done it again! Tasked with building a new team by the President, Adrian is thrown into a battle against assassins wanting him dead. This is a fast-paced story that will be hard to put down!
This is one of the most enjoyable and satisfying books ever!! I can’t wait for the next installment! Tell your friends just how great these characters are!! GMR
I am so glad Adrian Hell is back and it seems everyone else is too! What a book…..it was so good …..so fast paced…..so action packed……great characters……wow it was good! I cannot wait for the next one to come out!
Adrian Hell is definitely on my must read list. Non-stop action, exotic locations, relatable characters. I especially like books written in the first person, makes for easy reading, no trying to work out who's who.
This book was (not surprisingly) excellent and almost impossible to put down. The characters are intelligent, relentless, and unbeatable. I like the new team and hope they appear in the next in the series. Another 5 stars!
Adrian Hell never gets an easy task...to help out or to kill.Enjoyed the team he put together and how they all worked together to finish the challenge.
As AR I found this book to be a very good read, plenty of excitement and of juicy story. If you are an Adrian Hell fan and like his stories, you won’t want to miss this book.
