Buddy is nothing but a forgotten plastic love doll. Long ago, an alpha paid a warlock to bring him to life with magic, but that man hasn’t wanted Buddy in years. Every night Buddy goes into heat all alone.
Until Buddy meets an alpha named H. H is the kindest man Buddy’s ever known, and he gives hugs that make Buddy feel happy and safe.
If only Buddy could be a real omega made of flesh and blood. Then maybe H would want him.
If only...
Real is an MM romance retelling of Pinocchio with MPreg, knotting, and lace. It’s the second book in the Lost Red Wolves series, but it stands alone
This wasn’t necessarily bad, but it definitely wasn’t good either. It was decently enjoyable, but the content and writing generally felt a bit empty to me.
The world-building was quite interesting, and the plot was rather entertaining as well. It definitely had some intriguing ideas going on. Maybe not all of it was executed in the best way possible, but surely it was more than good enough for a romance book. It really tried to give us more than only a love story.
The adoration between the two love interests was really cute. I especially loved how H was willing to do anything to make Buddy happy. Neither man believed they were good enough for the other, but they desperately wanted to be together anyway. It was sweet, albeit a little annoying that they kept going in circles with their insecurities and stuff.
This whole thing was definitely very much insta-love. The entire book takes place in only two days, and sometimes I struggle to understand how someone can come to mean so much to a person in only such little time. I can understand insta-attraction, but bone deep devotion after only barely knowing someone? Hmm, that’s where it becomes too unrealistic and superficial for me to feel truly connected to it.
In the end, I thought this was a fun enough read, but it’s nothing to write home about, and it surely could have been done better.
Oh, wow that was a hell of a ride. Full of fantasies, magics, pain, giddy, guilt, love and love much much love 🥹 I went in blind, and this book definitely left me all blinded, in a good way of course. 🥰
Wow, Idk how to say this without spoiling but hey, we have Pinocchio doll remake, Mpreg and Magic. I loved the plotline, the writing, and the way the story just makes sense in their own way I love it. The characters were DABOMB! I loved every one of them, from the MCs, Buddy and H, then the side characters Candlewick, Manny and even Dorian 🙄 Even though they made not much appearance in this book, it was still amazing how every each one of them related to the story and how the story unfolds.
Buddy’s character was amazing. I love myself a little flawed MC :)) The pain he was going through, I felt it with him. The sadness and guilt was so heartbreaking. For what happened to Buddy in the past, his story wasn’t told purely based on emotions, but it was still emotional enough for me to cry my ass out. I think that was the purpose though, because he was a doll, he has emotions, but humans mistaken him as a heartless toy. There were sad and heartbreaking feelings, but his POV was so subtle in expressing everything. Gosh, the detail! but ofc that’s just my opinion 🥰 And I love his character development towards the end there. He was so brave I was so proud of him ❤️
And of course, perspective is important. The way H sees Buddy since the beginning says a lot about him. He was soo selfless for Buddy and care about Buddy too much when all people see was just a robot or toy and even a sex toy. Their emotional bond were build solemnly from how they see each other and it was so heartwarming🥹 Despite how short they spend their time with in this book overall, their connection was instant and developed easily and so wholesome!
The angst was so good made me question my whole existence. The intensity left me and Hugo all frustrated. Why would you do that to us 😭💔😭💔 I also do hope the ending was a bit longer because it seems so abrupt like I was questioning what happen to the lawyer, Illusor and everything. Maybe I missed something, but it was quite the rush. Didn’t ruin anything about the overall story though, I like it.
“If I were free, I would be with you.”
This book manage to touch my deepest heart and soul and made me tear up relating Buddy’s story to my real life struggles and I am all here for it. We love a little MC that mirror us, right? I hope we can be twinnies, Buddy xx
This is my first Any Bellows book and I wasn’t disappointed.
A Pinocchio retelling with some Dorian Grey added in. Both stories I’m not super familiar with but I enjoyed this book all the same.
H and Buddy 🥰 they were great. I will say that their romance was very much insta love.. the main bulk of the story took place in 24 hours, but the way it was written it didn’t feel like it.. if that makes sense haha.
Took me a bit to understand the whole red wolf shifter thing, but there were some explanations. I think if I read some other series first it would have been more clear, but this can definitely be read as a standalone. I didn’t feel too lost in this story.
I think I’ll definitely read some other books from her. I am interested in Candlewicks story, that’s out in August.
Zachary Zaba did a great job with the narration his voices for Buddy and H are what I was picturing.
I want to start by saying I generally steer away from omegaverse stories. It’s not that I specifically dislike the genre, but it doesn’t really appeal to me. I don’t remember how Real came across my radar, but when it did, I loved the concept, loved the idea of a reimagined Pinocchio story so much that I decided to give it a chance. I’m really glad I did!
Truthfully, I was mostly ambivalent about the omegaverse aspects, but I LOVED the characters and the plot otherwise. Both Buddy and H/Timothy were such sweet characters with such gentle souls! They’re completely the kind of characters toward which I gravitate the hardest. The way they looked out for each other and for their friends was lovely. Though the timeline of the story is very short, the evolution of their relationship was satisfying and endearing and the plot captivating.
I also really loved and appreciated the body positivity messaging. Buddy is insecure about not being a real person (ug, I feel uncomfortable even writing it that way but that’s how he feels because he doesn’t have a flesh and blood human body.) H/Timothy is insecure about his large size. But each loves and appreciates the body the other has and over time grows to appreciate their own body as well. It was well written and very sweet.
If omegaverse was my jam, I’d give this one 5 stars. Because that aspect of the story slightly dampened my enjoyment, I’m going to give this one 4 stars.
It made me smile. It made me sob. It broke my heart and put it back together again. If you KU and find the concept intriguing and/or love omegaverse stories and/or adore gentle souls, check this one out.
A modern take on Pinocchio also an omegaverse I really thought this was gonna be a lighthearted finding yourself story but that wasn't the case, it was a lot deeper than that. I really like the political aspect on this, like if a robot has a deviant mind and be able to have feelings would you consider them as human. I just wished there was a court scene tho cause that would be epic I'm such a sucker for court scene.
There was so much depth on both of these mc They need to communicate better tho, maybe they'll solve their problems faster.
The only thing that I'm having trouble with is the lore, it's a little premature on that part I think and messy.
An interesting take on the Pinocchio story. I adored both Buddy and H and loved Candlewick (he's got his work cut out for him in the next book). There were a couple of places where things felt a little convoluted, but the story did keep me interested. It can be read as a standalone.
I read Real in a few hour and was so taken by the characters, world building and Amy Bellows beautiful writing that as soon I finished it , began reading it all again.
Real is a compelling , thought provoking , smart, complex, steamy , emotional , compassionate retelling of Pinocchio ...A truly extraordinary story that will stay with me for a long while.
When Dorian pays a warlock to turn a sex doll into a man just for him he's unhappy with the results and tells Buddy every chance he gets. He hates Buddy so much he never even gave him a name and when he's home he has to stay hidden in his closet while Dorian takes his many lovers to bed.
When Buddy's only friend helps him escape Dorian to save his life little does he know it will change him forever. Buddy is more than just the plastic shell he thinks he is and just maybe he can find true love and the life he's dreamed of at the end of it all.
I loved this story. Buddy is such a beautiful soul despite all the horrors Dorian bestowed on him. Dorian is the kind of person you'd actually consider stabbing 50 times just for pleasure. (Or at least cutting his nuts off before locking him in a closet. LOL)
It was very sad. I cried for Buddy and for his love, H/Timothy, through a lot of it. I cried a little for his friend, Candlewick, too. (I can't wait to read Candlewick's story when it comes out.) The ending answers all the questions throughout the book and is definitely a fitting HEA.
The book is in both Buddy and H/Timothy's POV. Because it's so sad I rated the angst level on the high side.
This book was amazing. The characters were just as the title suggest so real that the emotions just jumped off the page (I can't even tell you how many times I cried). As always, Amy's worldbuilding is outstanding and I just want to live in her head because I'm sure it's a completely magical place. Since this is a Pinocchio retelling with a brought to life sex doll, I kind of expected it to be silly, when it was anything but. It was so thought-provoking and emotional and I just fell head over heels for both of the main characters who have had such tough lives and overcame so much. It's truly a story where love overcomes all.
This was so freaking good! Buddy broke my heart, especially when he would talk about being real. All he wants is to be real & loved. His "owner" Dorian keeps him locked up on a closet & tells him that he is useless and not right. H/Timothy, was saved from the breeding pits and has been muzzled, meaning his canines have been extracted so he couldn't bond with any of the Omega's. It's horrible, absolutely gut wrenching what they went through. He works for the red wolf sanctuary & is so good with the children. He meets Buddy when his only friend Candlewick, saves him from the abusive home he is living in. When he meets Buddy, he is shocked to see that he is plastic, but there is a spark. We have a the mystery of how Buddy came to be and why, the truth behind everything and watching these two fall in love. H knows that he can't bond with Buddy because he is muzzled and is willing to walk away so that Buddy can have a life. The scene in the Den of Dreams where Buddy wants to pretend he is real, H's mate & pregnant with his pups, brought me to tears. I loved seeing these two get their HEA & the ending was just perfect. I can't wait for the next book which is Candlewick/Isaiah's story.
I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest opinion
I picked up Real on the Kindle store with part interest, part hesitation. The plot is fairly unique—brought to life by magic and later left forgotten in a closet, a plastic doll named Buddy is placed in the care of kind Red Wolf Shifter H while the police investigate Buddy's situation. But was he stolen or rescued?
The idea that a doll gets brought to life only to prove his humanity to gain his freedom is interesting, but I felt that the overall weirdness of the plot kinda made the storyline jarring in places and, occasionally, simply random. I get what the author was going for, but there were times I felt detached from the story due to the overall chaoticness of it and the repetitiveness of some of the scenes.
Putting all of the above aside, I did feel for Buddy and H. Both were dealt awful hands in life, and to see Buddy be so eager to please yet so hard on himself, hurt me.
If you can get past the weirdness and the randomness of the plot; if you enjoy books with traumatized characters and character development; if you enjoy happy endings and omega/alpha pairings with on-page mpreg, then this will likely be the book for you.
This story is so delightfully tender and heartmelting that I couldn't bear to put it down. Completely unique and captivating, I highly recommend it - even if you don't usually read shifter or paranormal types of stories. Those elements are mild and a minor part of the story, but there is mpreg.
this was so different and interesting.. it was fun and emotional.. it made me smile and happy.. made me laugh and tear up. it was amazing and i cant wait for the next one.
As much as I loved this book, I'm struggling with how to talk about it. This book dives into a part of this world/ universe that has been alluded to in many of the previous books but for the first time, we're actually seeing it. I don't want to spoil that for anyone. It's an experience, this book. A wild existential ride for sure.
As with any of her other books, this book has a beautiful love story with strong multi-dimensional characters. I really loved H and Buddy together, they were so lovely. My heart was aching for Bubby and H is the sweet cinnamon roll of an alpha (that needs to be a thing). I really enjoyed seeing them grow together while still becoming their own person. I also really loved all the references. And I'm not just talking about the one pertaining to a certain Gothic novel I have a deep affection for.
This book is more of an exciting thrill ride than it is a swoony fluffy romance. It is still very much a romance with plenty of sweet and sexy (very, VERY sexy) moments but expect more of a plot-heavy story. Fear not, the relationship doesn't happen because of the plot, but through it. It's a heartfelt romance that is different and exciting. I really enjoyed this book and while you should probably read the first book before diving into this one, it's definitely worth your time and coin. Five stars because who knew I would be into smutty Pinocchio retellings. Or Candlewick. Seriously, why was he hot? We better get his story next.
Genuinely have no idea how to rate this. So, omegaverse isn’t really my thing. I was intrigued by the premise of this one, a sort of Pinocchio After Dark, with a sex doll granted life, but then treated terribly and saved by some shifters after his friend gets him free. I was promised some body diversity, as well, which . . . there was a bit.
It started off kind of simple and sweet, but before I knew it, I was neck deep in 12 kinds of shifter lore. My only highlight in the book was one of the characters saying, “I’m so confused" bc, like, same
This book gave me whiplash. I’d think I knew what going on, then NOPE, new direction! At 90% we were still learning, the world building never ends, but I still had no idea of the geography of this hybrid world (there was New York City, but most of the action takes place in another place an unspecified distance from NYC) I needed a flow chart or supplemental materials of some kind.
Final verdict: Kind of fun, except for the sad parts, fast paced, even tho I had no idea what was happening, and I know for sure that books with full mpreg are not really for me. Also, the phrase “paternity jeans” . . . I could have been okay never reading that. * stares out window *
'Real' dives into a modern urban fantasy world where magic has a price and true mates can exist.
Its a form of a retelling for Pinocchio/Pygmalion but there is a much more mature and even thought-provoking take on it.
The premise of this book is not the creation of a new life, but the rescuing and rebuilding of one despite crippling self-doubt borne from past abuse and hardships.
Both H and Buddy are survivors. They each survived their own personal hell and were lead to believe they are never going to find anyone who will love them.
H is a red wolf alpha. In the past he was kidnapped into slavery and had his ability to mate another violently taken from him. Buddy survived being nothing more than a doll hidden away from its own creator and abuser for years.
They come together when H is at a point of his life where he helps others who survived trauma, and recognizes Buddy as the very real, very emotionally abused person he is, despite the law doubting his 'realness'.
But time is running out before the trial in which Buddy's creator fights over his right to ownership over Buddy. Because in a world with magic, the laws of magic dictate what belongs to who, and according to the law Buddy may not belong to himself...
This story is a journey for H and Buddy to find a way to fight all perceived conventions and prove Buddy's legal 'realness' in order to deliver him from his binding strings.
And the journey to do so requires them both to overcome inner demons and maybe one personal demon that is very unhappy about the price he paid for what he perceives as failed magic. Buddy might discover he doesn't need a hero to save him, but just someone to believe in him, and H may need to believe in himself just as much.
This book has many twists and turns, and just like the first book in the series it seems like some of the answers were actually quite less complicated if the heroes had a minute to think about it.
But the perceived urgency is what ties everything together to a very exciting and dramatic adventure full of romance.
I was swept away with the character's emotions of not only pining and longing, but also kindness and devotion and bravery. Most important of all, tender love. I couldnt help but feel how tender and sweet the emotions grow between H and Buddy over the story.
And yes, Its a very emotional read. I love this author since she has a real knack for writing yearning and pining, and there were times I couldn't help but find myself screaming at the characters to get over their crippling self-doubt and get it on with each other.
But dont worry, they get their HEA.
Of course, they first have to go through a whole adventure before it where they find help in friends from H's past and new friends and allies found along the way, but eventually they find their way to be with each other in their own unconventional way. I think it's very inspiring how the author writes uncoventional forms that love can manifest itself.
And just a final note, as an urban-fantasy enthusiast, the world-building is gorgeous in this book as in all the books in the Heron Manor universe. In each book you get another glimpse of a rich history of a complex world and the weave of the societies living in it. This book covers a new aspect that is kept a secret and its part of the truths uncovered over Buddy and H's journey and definitely a delight to learn about, in my opinion.
Overall this book gets a solid five stars from me, as it definitely fulfilled all of my expectations and ended with my wanting more!
Luckily the next book is already scheduled to come out in 2022, and I am already looking forward to it!

This is totally instalove but oh my fuck I don’t even care it’s just so compelling! Seriously, Buddy and H just broke my heart and put it back together I’m cry. There was so much in this and I loved it all. This is a sequel to Expensive, though it stands alone, which means that it takes place in the same universe as the Alaskan Pebble Gifters books, so fans of that will be in for a treat. Still loving that worldbuilding. And in this book we finally meet the often-mentioned Illusors, which was pretty fun. But the real stars of this show were Buddy and H. Buddy is a sex doll brought to life by a warlock on the request of a rich alpha. Unfortunately, that particular alpha is a terrible human being and Buddy was horribly mistreated in his... “care”. With help from his only friend, Buddy escapes the alpha’s house and is put into the orbit of H, a red wolf shifter who was rescued from a human trafficking outfit years before and who now works to help rescue other red wolf shifter human trafficking victims. Neither of them expects to fall in love, both thinking that they aren’t really worthy or capable of it, but it happens. Not that their path to happily ever after is a smooth one. After all, Buddy is a literal doll, so legally he’s not sure that he can be considered an actual person though he has thoughts and feelings and is clearly sentient. H, after going through what he went through in the breeding pits, plus his low self-esteem because of his weight, doesn’t really consider himself a proper alpha. And because he’s unable to form a proper mating bond, he isn’t convinced that he can be what Buddy truly needs and wants. Though all Buddy really wants is a warm, loving relationship after being alone and neglected for so long. Buddy and H are both absolute sweethearts, and they deserve all the good things. Even after obstacles keep being thrown in their path, they’ll both work as hard as they can to make sure the other gets the happiness they want. This book seriously had so much. Buddy and H as characters were so precious and tragic in equal turns, having both been through horrible abuse but still turning out soft on the other side of it. They both had so much love to give and, even though they only knew each other a short time, it was clear that they developed a deep connection. It was brilliant and well-written and well-paced and totally convincing. And the body praise and validation and just the cuddling, just top-notch. And the themes of what constitutes humanity and personhood was an interesting dilemma, along with the question of what standards should things be measured by. Also Buddy’s relationship with
Wow! This book just totally blew me away! Only Amy Bellows can write a story about a plastic sex doll brought to life and infuse so much heartfelt emotion and passion and adventure. Although the premise of the story seems almost amusing - a sex doll that's alive - this book is so much more. It's about resilience and strength in the shadow of terrible circumstances and pain. It's about accepting yourself, flaws and all, and realizing that not all flaws are actually "flaws". It's about the inherent drive in every living being for love and comfort and sometimes you have to look outside the box. It's about societal perceptions of " normal " and seeing beyond those. Buddy is the sweetest, most tragic protagonist but he shines with hope - even when he can't believe he's worthy. H (or Timothy) is the opposite of the stereotypical Alpha - soft and compassion rather than hard - but he's the perfect match for Buddy in every way. This book has so many layers that it's impossible to list them all here. Just trust me when I say that this is a story that will stay with you long after the last page has been turned. I would highly recommend reading the first book, Expensive, as it sets up some of the background information and characters. It's also an outstanding book in its own right. I wish you could give this more than 5* stars because it is seriously that amazing.
I have read a lot of books in my lifetime, but I don't think I have ever read a retelling with a Pinocchio twist. The story wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing either. Overall, I enjoyed it but there were just some details that slipped through the cracks.
The plot and concept promised greatness. I adored the Pinocchio aspect, it was refreshing and unique. How the plot plays out with Buddy was intriguing and was a fun spin that I never saw coming. It kept me on my toes and had me eager to turn the page and find out what happened next. But the story is filled with insta-love, I mean the majority of the book occurs within 24 hours. I would have loved to see a deeper connection form between Buddy and H.
I would have also liked to see H and Buddy work through their own personal hang ups. It felt like they just waved a wand and they were magically over all their insecurities and issues. There were also details that slipped through the cracks, for example like H handed off his wallet at one point and never got it back? Or Buddy's enjoyment of lace was mentioned once or twice but it didn't add anything to the story and felt like an afterthought...so why bring it up at all? And this occurred throughout the story and started to take away from the main plotline.
Overall, I enjoyed the read but like I mentioned, not my favorite. I am looking forward to Candlewick's story though!
Brilliantly different and incredibly moving love story. Buddy was instantly achingly dear to me. What a wonderful character, so very, very real, no matter that he’s plastic. I was so touched by his journey; seeing him be loved on and cared for by H was everything, but the fact that he learned to value and love himself completely was the most heartwarming thing in the book. H has lived through a horrible experience as well and still carries a lot of pain because of that. He is the gentlest, kindest character; I loved that so much about him. I really liked that he is not the typical alpha expected in the society he lives in. He has as much of a growing curve and healing process to go through as Buddy. H reclaims himself, stands up to those he considers his friends and is utterly selfless in his love for Buddy. There’s so many emotions and food for thought in this story, to say nothing about the complex, detailed worldbuilding. Impressively imaginative. The secondary characters are very well-written, both good guys and bad, and I’m so stoked about what I hope will be the MCs for the next book in the series!
Do you have to be flesh & blood, or does love & belief make you real?
I love this series! No matter what, love trumps all. This book is a wonderful twist of what makes us "real". Our capacity to love & go against convention. From the first pages, Buddy captured my attention. He quickly became real to me. I could see why H, a muzzled red wolf, was so captivated by him. I watched as Buddy became "real" to H. I loved seeing Buddy grow as a person; and he & H grow as a couple. They quickly captured my heart. This story has a good friend, a selfish, evil man, and a couple of spell- busters who provide welcome comic relief. Ooh, and one of my favorite characters from this universe, a courageous ice dragon. But most of all, this story has heart. It shows what we are capable of if we let our heart lead the way. And we see the true meaning of being "real". You are going to love this book! I recommend reading the first book in this series. You will be glad you did. This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.
A rescued red wolf shifter omega...or is he? Not exactly, and it's brilliant! Devious warlocks, broken alphas, desperate omegas, and magic that comes with a price.
Alpha H (aka Timothy) is a caretaker at the omega shelter Buddy is brought to, and is tasked with keeping him safe while his case is sorted. Only Buddy isn't like other omegas... as H observes, "Buddy seems extremely human one moment, and mechanical the next." For the first time, they are truly seen and wanted - glorious flaws and all (cheers for body positivity) - and their slow-burn, blazing hot, heart-healing romance, with its build-up of trust, desire, and deep love, is tender and hopeful.
Narrator Zachary Zaba delivers a tremendous performance here, aptly conveying Buddy's innocence and vulnerability, and H's warmth, compassion, and measured manner. His female voices are also very believable.
This is such an inventive, curious, and compelling hurt/comfort love story - and world, really - the sort to completely sink into while listening. I look forward to more in this series.
While this series does deal with abuse (verbal (on page), physical (off page), and sexual (implied) it still manages to be soft and sweet. I love that about Amy’s books.
Both of the main characters in this book have had extremely hard pasts and yet they’re both kind of cinnamon rolls.
Also major props for a big teddy bear of an alpha who never once has to go against his nature and do something violent or overly aggressive to protect someone he loves.
Omegaverse isn’t generally something I’m drawn to because I don’t love the alpha/omega power dynamic typically found in them. However, there are a few authors like Amy who I feel completely safe reading because of the way they go out of their way to make their characters diverse.
The side characters are fantastic! I can’t wait to see more of them. (I hope the Spell Busters make another appearance somewhere).
Also while there are definite nods to other books in this one it could absolutely be read as a stand alone.
I felt protective of both of these sweethearts right from the start. Buddy and H each believe that other people (particularly each other) don't think they're worth all that much - which left my heart aching! Seeing them both take that leap of faith and put themselves out there for one another was beautiful.
This book builds on the magic and lore that have been created across all books set in this universe, but I did feel a little lost at a few points and had to check back in Expensive to keep things straight.
The main danger/threat wraps up sort of early-ish (at around 70%), with the rest of the book dedicated to them sorting out their HEA. I guess resolving so early made me a little paranoid, though, because I kept waiting for some more bad stuff to happen! I was relieved when it didn't, but I think that kinda took me out of the full HEA appreciation because I didn't quite trust it.
It was still a great addition to the Heron Manor universe, however, and I can't wait for the next one!
A book with a blurb like this could go so horribly cringy wrong, but I knew it wouldn't if it was written by Amy Bellows. This broke my heart in the best way possible and put it back together again. Picture a fairytale, add some adult content, and think lots of hurt/comfort: mistreatment, despair and insecurities made up for with achingly sweet reassurance and caring. I read this while I was coming down with something and feeling sorry for myself and it brightend me up so much and made me all mushy inside, so thank you for that! Looking forward to the next one in this series already!
One question, though: Why is the bad guy named Dorian Gray? The Pinocchio references are obvious, but in The picture of Dorian Gray the picture ages and shows the signs of his life choices so Dorian can stay young and beautiful forever, whereas this Dorian deliberately sacrificed 25 years of his life to create his perfect mate. That seems like rather opposing goals for me, although the outcome could be considered similar, I guess...
Dnf 80%. I love the idea behind this book. I love omegaverses—This book was all over the fucking place. Everything happens in 24hrs (as far as I’ve read) they meet, fall in love, fuck, get separated, get together, defeat the bad guy, wallow in needless angst from lack of communication…all within 24hrs.
And there was so much info-dump and ridiculous prophecies and destinies and shit that doesn’t add up, I just couldn’t give two shits anymore about these two🙄one second Buddy is insecure and a self-conscious doormat and the next he’s driving through new york city like a maniac to kill Dorian. Bruh…it was like the author was like, hang on a second…it’s almost the end of the book, know what that means? It’s Mcs-problems-magically-vanish time! And just like that Buddy is some sort of savior.
Yeah, yeah, Buddy is cute and adorable and Timothy is sweet and caring and they could both end up dying in a ditch for all I cared about them.
This was a miss for me as much as I hate to admit it because Amy Bellows is my comfort author for when I want something sweet but deep. But I hated the premise here, and I REALLY hated that kind of the only character in any of Bellows books with a less than ideal body type is the character that ends up with an affection and touch starved animated plastic doll. I mean, come on. This is saying that people in a larger body will only be found attractive by a partner who doesn’t know any better and has literally never had someone be nice to them. Buddy would have fallen for ANYONE who was nice to him. It feels like a really shitty message to send to someone in a larger body, basically the only person who will love you for you is someone who has lived in a closet their whole existence. Not a fan.
