Anna is a teenage girl pulled from our world into a world of magic, myth, and mystery by a warlock who intends to sacrifice her to the demon lords. Rescued in the nick of time by a powerful sorceress, she discovers that she possesses magical powers and must go to Starhold Academy to learn how to master them. There, she learns the other students believe that she is a child of a living "god," a belief that earns her both friends and enemies. A stranger in a very strange land, she may never fit into her new world... ...and the warlock is still hunting her. If Anna can't stop him, he might bring about the end of days.
Dayne first began writing fantasy at the age of fifteen when he discovered the worlds which fantasy novels could transport him to. Since then, he’s read countless fantasy and science fiction novels from the likes of Robert Jordan, Elizabeth Haydon, Peter F. Hamilton, George R.R. Martin and many others. He has earned a bachelor of business administration from CTU, written a fantasy novel, obtained his customs broker license and started a publishing business.
Dayne lives in southeastern Michigan with his wife and daughter. When he is not working on his Saga of the Seven Stars series and his next novel, you can find him reading, watching television with his wife, biking, walking and playing on the computer or with his daughter.
I have mixed feelings about this book; I liked the characters, the magic system and world building, but sometimes felt the interaction of the characters lacked depth, a bit like they were going through the motions.
Overall though, the story of Anna being torn from Earth and finding herself in a different world with magical powers and a legacy to fulfil is good. The magic system and creatures are well thought out and explained, though since the main setting is a magic school, you would expect to learn about the magic, and I love the mash-up of mythology, legend and fairytales used to base the creatures, Gods and other magical beings populating this realm. The magical battle was action packed and very engaging.
The boarding school setting and life put me in mind of Harry Potter meets Mallory Towers and because of this I feel the book would appeal more to younger YA readers, maybe ages 10-14 years.
So I would recommend the book for the younger readers, it didn’t quite have enough grit and depth for me personally.
I had the pleasure of receiving this book as an advance reader copy from the author and am leaving this review of my own volition.
This novel is absolutely brilliant. I fell in love with the cover and the novel was just as captivating. As you read it will be up to you to put the pieces together! This is a unbelievable read! It pulled me in from beginning and held me to the end. Occasionally I would have to tell myself to breathe! The world building is detailed and imaginative. This novel has strong, well-developed characters and an ingenious story line that keeps you turning the pages. I recommend this novel and would read more novels by this author. I gave this honest, voluntary review after being given a free copy of the novel from StoryOrigin.
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
This story wasn’t to bad. Some parts felt kinda forced and a large part of this sorta seems familiar. But over all it’s worth reading and I’m looking forward to seeing more
This book is perfect for young adults. The story was simple and very explanatory of the world and the magic system. It has set the ground rules for the rest of the series. If you like YA series, you will be pleased with this one.
I received this book for free and wished to leave a review.
Well written plot and amazing characters to keep you intrigued. Add enough magic and you have an outstanding book. This is definitely not to be missed.
