About the author

Jean Maurice Eugène Clément Cocteau (5 July 1889 – 11 October 1963) was a French poet, novelist, dramatist, designer, boxing manager, playwright and filmmaker. Along with other Surrealists of his generation (Jean Anouilh and René Char for example) Cocteau grappled with the "algebra" of verbal codes old and new, mise en scène language and technologies of modernism to create a paradox: a classical avant-garde. His circle of associates, friends and lovers included Jean Marais, Henri Bernstein, Colette, Édith Piaf, whom he cast in one of his one act plays entitled Le Bel Indifferent in 1940, and Raymond Radiguet.

His work was played out in the theatrical world of the Grands Theatres, the Boulevards and beyond during the Parisian epoque he both lived through and helped define and create. His versatile, unconventional approach and enormous output brought him international acclaim.

Une pièce de qualité et originale, aux répliques savoureuses et aux personnages attachants (bons comme mauvais!)
Je la recommande vivement.
Ça me plairait bien de voir une représentation, même filmée. Il y a des passages plutôt complexes et compliqués, j'aurais bien aimé les voir mis en scène! Ça m'intrigue!

واحدة من أسوأ ما يمكن أن تقرأ في حياتك، مزيج بين السحر والقصة المهترءة والضعف في المحتوى والتصميم الخارجي للمسرحية والحبكة، الملك والملكة والسحر الذي كان يحيط بحياتهم وقتله للملكة وخادمه الذي كان يحب زوجته فأقام له خطة للإيقاع به و... هراء.. في الواقع لا اوصي بها على الاطلاق.. انت اولى بالدقائق التي ستمضيها في قراءة هذه السطور.

3.5 stars. Although this play is a fun reimagining of Arthurian characters and events, it is not quite on par with Cocteau’s more famous plays. The moral tacked onto the end stays true to medieval morality tales, but it’s unclear if Cocteau is being serious or playing this for an ironic laugh. The play itself – with an impish sprite pretending to be other characters, the voices of mystical elves intervening like a deus ex machina, and references to the Grail quest – are quite entertaining and comic. As in his other theatrical work, Cocteau shows us the humor and absurdity in tragedy, in a way that could work either as parody or as a straight up entry into the Arthurian cycle. Cocteau walks this line like no other, and always manages to be entertaining, even if on the lighter side, as in this case.

مسرحية متفاوتة المستوى بين مشاهدها وبناء شخصياتها، فبعض الأجزاء مكتوبة باتقان وتميز كعادة كوكتو، وبعضها ضعيف للغاية، كذلك في حين أن هناك شخصيات قوية ومحكمة البناء، العديد من شخصيات المسرحية الأخرى باهتة، إجمالا قد تكون هذه المسرحية اضعف اعمال كوكتو الفنية ولكنها لا زالت تستحق المتابعة بسبب بعض الأجزاء التي عكست فن كوكتو المميز.
