Absolutely love how this author isn’t afraid to tackle the tough topics in today’s society. This book is no different. It’s a roller-coaster of emotions and feels… well maybe roller-coaster is the wrong word since a roller-coaster is a short timed ride with riders all hyped up in adrenaline. This book carries the feelings on till the very last page.
An adulterous household not only affects a marriage but it has lasting impact on the children. Holly, our main character knows this well. After finishing school she leaves home not wanting her father to be in her life. She earns her own way, saves her work money and eventually buys the restaurant where she worked. It would seem things are better for her now. But not all is as it seems.
Holly is in a battle of right vs wrong. Her supporting adoption over abortion raises the ire of a group of people who set out to ruin Holly. And to make matters worse, a friend from her cooking school days ‘accidentally on purpose’ shows up in her small town. He lures her in to his life causing more heartbreak.
If all this isn’t enough, she finds out she has a sister, well half sister from one of her father’s affairs.
Holly is a new believer and it would seem that old enemy, the devil, wants to stop Holly before she can make a difference. Her confidence and self esteem is suffering, her finances are almost in total ruin and people she thought she could rely on, betray her. However, Holly is not alone. She has true friends, Godly friends who stand by her through thick and thin, especially Dougie. He plays a BIG role in Holly’s life and is determined to protect her.
So if you like seeing how good wins out over evil, if you like seeing real people overcoming real life problems, I’m thinking this book is for you. Let’s face it, not everyone has the figure of a model, many people have weight issues. Also, childhood woes often stick around into adulthood. They can take many forms. For Holly, we see how they affect her self esteem but also helped her learn to make choices, how to be strong and how to accept help when needed. And when necessary, her toughness comes through.
I was provided an advance copy of this book and am leaving my personal thoughts and opinions.
Her Saving Grace is such a sweet book. I felt like there was always something going on to keep me interested and reading. It didn't take me long to finish the book, I couldn't put it down for long.
The characters seemed to work incredibly well together. They were so natural, it was strange to see them apart. Once they got together, everything fell right into place.
The way the book was laid out was different. There were some time jumps that I don't know how I feel about. It worked well for the story, so I don't think they were necessarily bad. I just don't know if I am a fan of them or not. I didn't hate them though.
There was something about the book that kept me from feeling completely satisfied at the end of it. I don't know if it had to do with the story, I do think the ending wrapped up quickly, but it didn't feel overly rushed. I don't know what exactly it was that caused me to feel that way. Maybe I just wanted more of the story and wasn't happy it ended so soon.
The story was good though. It did tackle some tough issues, but in a subtle way. There was a lot of faith throughout the story, and I think it was done well. The Christian themes didn't overtake the whole story, but worked throughout it in a natural way.
The book was really good, I enjoyed it a lot and I think a lot of fans of Christian Romance would like it as well. There was a lot to the story and certain parts will appeal to different people. There was a bit of a mystery, but I wouldn't call this book a Mystery story. I do think I enjoyed having it in there, it added to the story overall.
I read an ARC of this book for free, and I voluntarily left this honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Her Saving Grace. It is not a light, fluffy read though. Author Lorana Hoopes writes in such a way that makes her characters come to life. They went through some tough situations before Dougie and Holly got their HEA. Their growing faith influenced their actions, which didn't always immediately lead to good outcomes, kind of like real life. Nor did they always make the right choices, but both of these situations developed the characters to such an extent that my emotions went right along with theirs. Dougie and Holly both have some great Christian friends to help them walk through life. We all need those and need to be those kind of friends. There's a bit of mystery with an answer that I did not see coming. I highly recommend Her Saving Grace. I would definitely read more from this author. I received a complimentary copy and am sharing my opinion of this well-written romance
I really related to the part of the story of Mandy and Holly's relationship. I too found out about a sister, I was 54 she was 59, that was 6 years ago. She found our mom by my daddy's obituary. It's been an interesting roller coaster ride; trust is defiantly not easy to have. I love how Dougie supported Holly through the HUGE and many downs, as well as the few and far between ups, tryin to help yet giving space when asked. Thank heavens for true friends like Tiffany, Israel, Merribeth, and Chance, and we can't forget Ashley and all she did looking out and watching for. As for Frederick and Sylvia, I would have to say just the opposite in the friend department.
Holly was foolish to believe a man she went to cooking school with who was a known charmer. I pegged him as a con artist from the start and don't know why no one investigated him and why he was suddenly between jobs. Dougie has feelings for her but doesn't speak up until it's too late and then she won't listen to him. Even when she has a bad feeling Holly seems to ignore her gut often in this book. She participates in a prayer walk, gets singled out, and harassed at her business. This book brings up a controversial topic. Years ago I worked as an auditor at family planning center and I hated those days when people would scream at me while security escorted me inside. There are two sides to every story.
This book has an interesting order of events - the first bit is where Dougie and Holly are on a date only to have her restaurant burn down. We then back track a year to when Dougie wanted to ask her out but didn't and someone from her past took advantage of a (supposedly) random valentine day match up and before you know it he is working in her restaurant and despite her friends having reservations about him she gets engaged to him and their lives all progress until we get up to when the fire happened. I really liked Dougie's hanging in there and wanting to do the best for her even when he knows she won't be happy about it. Strongly Christian. I received an ARC but this review is my own.
Definitely my favorite book in the series! I loved the characters and the story line! Dougie was an absolute jewel! Talk about long-suffering! This guy certainly waited a long time for Holly and put up with a lot of tribulations, but he won in the end! I love it when book characters don't give up! Holly was an interesting character. She went through a ton of trials - some of her own making - but came out the other side and learned to have faith! I loved the supportive friends for both of them. A really good story all the way around.
I had an ARC for this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Restaurant owner Holly is paired with her former cooking school friend at the Annual Valentine’s day dance. Resort security head Dougie had hoped it would be him paired with Holly. When things go bad for Holly, Dougie is there. An interesting book with a bit of suspense, and faith in God which definitely holds your interest! Another peek into life into the small tourist town of Courage, Colorado.
So good! Dougie had been waiting so long to ask Holly out, but fate had other plans. I read this in 2 sittings. It could have been done in one, but I needed some sleep. Lol I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just say it keeps you guessing. I did feel my hopes drop when Doggie left town. If you like clean inspiring stories with a bit of mystery, you will enjoy 'Her Saving Grace'. I received this book from the publisher. The thoughts and comments are my own.
Her Saving Grace is a sweet, heartwarming, inspirational, small town romance. Dougie spent a lot of time waiting for a date with Holly who experiences more than her fair share of trials. With a lot of patience, some suspense, faith in God and great friends, will this couple finally reach an HEA? This well written book will keep you guessing until the end before all the pieces fall into place. With her usual flare, Ms. Hoopes brings this book to a very satisfying conclusion.
This was an interesting book of faith, beliefs, harassment, and love. I really liked the characters of Dougie and Holly. I especially liked the tale that the author wrote because there was romance and a lot of mystery that did not get solved until the end. I liked that this book was part of the Patriots Peak series set in the small, resort town of Courage, Colorado. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Have loved this three book series by Lorana Hoopes. Being a Christian, I love to read books with no cursing and no explicit sex. God never said life would always be easy and this is a lesson Molly learns. Dougie almost seems to be too good to be true but he hangs in there to get the girl he wants.
Lorana Hoopes never fails to bring a story that keeps me reading just one more chapter. This one has an intriguing story line, interesting characters, romance, humor and a few twists, turns and surprises. I’m on team “we need more Patriot Peak stories”. In the meantime, I’ll impatiently wait for her next book.
I really enjoyed this book. Just when you think Dougie and Holly are going to get their HEA things happen. I thought Lorana did a good job in how the obstacle came about. She kept your attention with a little suspense as to who some of these characters were. Dougie was a true friend to Holly and I'm glad she realized that. Not saying anymore as I don't want to spoil anything.
I enjoyed this love story about Holly and Dougie in Courage, Colorado. The main characters were likeable and the con artists, Frederick and Sylvia, were despicable. I highly recommend this interesting and exciting clean suspense romance. I received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.
This is Holly and Dougie’s story. Holly has a lot of ups and downs in her life. Dougie is always there for her when she needs him. He waited for her for a long time, such a long-suffered guy for love. I am glad he wins in the end. A good religious story with some suspense.
This is another winner for Ms. Hoopes that I thoroughly enjoyed. It has just the right amount of romance, mystery, & second chance. This is an excellent series. I received an ARC. This is my voluntary review.
Another must read real life struggles for a group of good friends by Lorana Hoopes. I breezed right through and enjoyed the close friends who are so supportive and helped up towards one another. *I was given a copy and am voluntarily giving my honest review.
I enjoyed the mix of romance and suspense in this book. I always enjoy Ms. Hoopes books and this was no exception. The characters are well written and believable. And best of all the book is sweet and clean with no inappropriate language or content.
I really enjoyed this book. The people in the book are dealing with situations that are challenging, and could happen to anyone. Seeing a person’s faith grow as they are dealing with hard issues is encouraging, and a reminder to me in my daily life.
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Excellent book. It takes on a subject so important to stand up for. A must read.
This is a very interesting series. I enjoyed every book in this series. Each story was interesting and exciting to read. I hope you can extend this series.
