As a civilian I enjoyed hearing about our soldiers. How they live, the things they go through to protect our freedom. The bad and the good, their perspective on things that were happening in the world as they were taking place, seemingly only on TV for a lot of us. Also, comforting to hear that it's not all scary and bad and that they do get to have some fun as well. The personal stories of failures and the overcoming, the leadership, all of it. I highly recommend this book to all walks of life. I'll take with me from this book, so much appreciation for our service men and women, no matter your rank or position, you rock! Also, the right attitude to have professionally and in life no matter what happens.
It's excellent. Renaud gives an honest account of what serving our country is like. Many times it's not a pretty picture. I felt glued to every page. This book is so worth the read.
It was self published, which shows at times. Perhaps if a second edition is released the grammatical and spelling errors can be cleaned up a bit. However, those are small issues and they don't take away from the story.
Thank you for your service, First Sergeant Renaud. And thank you for telling your story.
As a man who was not in the military, I must argue that we owe so much to our servicemen and women. God bless the troops.
Jason Renaud scored a first time target hit in this memoir! I was only fortunate to serve with him for about a year, but have followed his career for the decade since that time. He’s done a great job of capturing the essence of modern soldiering, both the good and bad stuff, in an honest and refreshing way.
Pretty good insight into the career of 1SG Jason Renaud. His experiences in the Army as a Field Artilleryman showcase how it was coming through the ranks from the early years of the Global War on Terror, to the Covid-19 epidemic, as well as how it is to move from a junior enlisted soldier "on the gun line" and into more senior ranks and staff positions. Overall a good read.
I liked his chronological progression of training and rank.As the author gains rank and responsibility his leadership expands exponentially. This book is an accurate assessment of traditional training and deployment. Good read
