Your church has the opportunity of a lifetime. The world has shifted, and a new, brighter tomorrow awaits. The Church Revitalization Checklist is a tool to help you start fresh, leverage your strengths, and discover hidden opportunities for church growth.
God has placed you exactly where He wants you. But let’s be honest, if you’re leading a church, it isn’t easy. Maybe your church has been in the doldrums for years. Maybe you’re hearing a lot of complaints, and you’re simply tired or disheartened. Maybe you’ve been hurt. But you are not alone. Many church leaders have sore backs from carrying a heavy load. This book will lighten that load.
The Church Revitalization Checklist provides a step-by-step path to a hope-filled future for both you and your church. Popular church expert Sam Rainer will walk you and your leadership team through a seven-point checklist―everything from reconsidering your priorities to evaluating your location and facilities. It is an extremely practical tool to unleash your congregation and help them step into God’s unique purpose for them.
Sam Rainer serves as president of Church Answers. He is the co-founder of Rainer Publishing, and he also serves as lead pastor at West Bradenton Baptist Church in Southwest Florida. Sam has written hundreds of articles for several publications. He is a frequent conference speaker on church health issues. I am currently serving as an interim pastor in a church needing revitalization. I've read three books on the subject and consider this one to be essential. He truly gives the revitalization pastor some hope when he says that God can save anyone and since He can, He can also save any church.
Sam explains the issues involved and gives clarity to the needs of revitalization and then in his last chapter goes through the process actually put into practice.
The book is written for pastors, but I think it would be a good group study for leaders in the church as well. I led our leaders in a group study of RECLAIMING GLORY by Mark Clifton and it helped them gain a perspective of what pastors see and the challenges the face. Our leaders realized that pastoring is a lot more than preaching on Sunday and visiting sick members throughout the week. They have to lead and shepherd a congregation of individuals who often have their own agenda.
One thing I find valuable is the desire to create metrics in the evaluation process. Some of the surveys he offers are more valuable than others, but when a leadership team sees the results it may help them swallow a good dose of reality regarding where they truly stand in their effectiveness of being a Gospel preaching outpost for the Kingdom.
This book took a little bit to get going. Probably for me it was because it hit pretty close to home. But once I got into the Seven Ps of his checklist I was incredibly blessed and moved. Now I just need to pace myself (one of the Ps) as I work to seek the Lord in what is next for the church I have the honor of serving at. Highly recommended
