He thinks he's the father. But honestly? I have no idea . . .
I should’ve told Milo. That I loved him. That I was pregnant. That I didn’t want anyone else, except him. But I didn’t. Instead, I left. I ran.
Now he’s here, in the hospital after I delivered a baby girl he’s convinced belongs to him. But the truth is, I have no idea. I’ve sacrificed so much to keep my past hidden. To keep my baby safe from her other potential father. It’s a secret I’ll take to my grave.
Or at least, I planned to until Milo forced me to move in with him, causing me and my daughter to pop up on a certain someone’s radar whom I never wanted to see again.
People might say life gets messy sometimes . . .
But they have no idea just how much chaos will ensue if the truth comes out after I’ve done so much to keep it in the past.
If you love angsty stories, alpha heroes, and adorable babies, you'll love Kelsie Rae's "Messy Strokes".
Kelsie is a sucker for a love story with all the feels. When she's not chasing words for her next book, you will probably find her reading or, more likely, hanging out with her husband and playing with her three kiddos who love to drive her crazy.
She adores photography, baking, her yorkie, Bob, and her devon rex, Mara. And now that she's actively pursuing her writing dreams, she's set her sights on someday finding the self-discipline to not binge-watch an entire series on Netflix in one sitting.
BEING BLACKMAILED INTO HAVING SEX IS RAPE!!!! I’m not putting a spoiler alert on this because no one in these reviews seems to understand that BEING COERCED INTO SEX IS SEXUAL ASSAULT NOT CHEATING. When Milo find out about it, he thinks he could “forgive” her for being raped but not for “tricking him” into calling him the dad and moving in with them when he LITERALLY FORCES HER to move in with her and to be the father. I stuck with this book because I wanted to see Milo (who inexplicably flips from an asshole to kind) tell Maddie that it wasn’t her fault, she didn’t do anything wrong, and she doesn’t have anything to feel guilty for. INSTEAD he is the biggest cunt on the fucking planet to her when he finds out and goes on a self-pity spiral. Heterosexuality has y’all’s minds so completely broken that THIS is your fantasy man? THIS is what you want someone to be happily ever after with? I can not believe the victim-blaming slog of utter bullshit I just sat through.
Milo and Maddie’s relationship was messy and somewhat painful to read about. Not a fan of cheating and this storyline was full of it. It was also hard to get past some of the icky things the author threw in about both Milo and Maddie. Maddie’s intimate relationships with multiple partners in the midst of falling in love with Milo (resulting in her subsequent pregnancy) spotlighted her boneheaded messed up lifestyle choices. Milo didn’t show much better. While he insisted on bringing Maddie and her baby home with him to care for (which was good), he was quite hateful when he brought another woman to their apartment and did the nasty with her to purposely hurt Maddie. Kudos to the author as she was able to show some depth of character in both Maddie and Milo as the storyline developed. I did appreciate the way Maddie started to mature and change after she gave birth to precious Peanut/Penny, but was disappointed when she kept lying to Milo. Lots of messy drama and pain as this couple kept hurting each other.

I tried to start this book with an open mind. I started to like it up until Milo sleeps with another girl in the next room to Mad. After that I kind of struggled for a bit to stay in the book. He well made up for it by being good to her and the baby. Maybe I’m missing pieces of the book because I haven’t read the others but I just couldn’t finish this one because I felt out of the loop. The lying and not telling Milo what’s going on with this other guy who could be the baby daddy was hard to read. I got 65% through this one. Maybe when I have more time I’ll go back and try to finish it.
This was hard to read and I found myself skipping chunks of pages just to get through it. Maddie and Milo's relationship was not it. From Milo's borderline abusive behavior with his mood swings and demanding attitude to Maddie just constantly not telling the truth and holding back, they were a mess. Not to mention that everyone in the book took Maddie's blackmail for sex as cheating and not rape. Ridiculous. I would not recommend this book to anyone and I probably won't finish the series because of it.
Where do I start? This book is much different than the others in the series—drama, lies, secrets, and second chances. Things are such a mess it had me hooked because I need to see how this situation played out. Add in Maddie’s insecurities and bad decisions, but lessons have been learned. Milo’s has his issues and flaws, push miscommunication to the top. Can they get past the heartache to be together?
Thank you to Booksprout and the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
I wanted to like the book but the whole time I couldn't get over genetics. The series is set in 2020s so a super successful rockstar with kids in their 20s would have had DNA tests in 2000s since paternity tests became a thing in the 1990s & have been around since the 1980s. If the half brother (Gibson) was tested for paternity and Marty was the father then Gibbs test would have shown some genetic relationship. Like I could get it if looking things up & iPhones weren't mentioned but they were.

Baby with an ex, but which ex? Guilt and good spice, good spice and more guilt. Know what your getting into and you wont be dissapointed by this book. First in the series I've read, can be read as a stand alone.
I would recommend this for someone looking for good spice.
I really like this author, I think her writing style is great and her storylines are awesome, but this book was not it for me.
I guess the idea was to feel bad for the FMC and her struggle with becoming a new mum while also dealing with the heartbreak of her ex which she just so happened to move in with for their daughter 👀
But … it just so happens she doesn’t know 100% if he’s the father and doesn’t tell him 😟 I don’t care that she didn’t know how to tell him, suck it up, put on your big girl panties and tell him? He deserved to know?
While we’re on the subject of what I don’t like… why wasn’t the fact that the FMC got coerced into sex because of blackmail not treated as her being violated?? Like what??? She was forced to have sex with someone to protect the person she loved and it was brushed over as if that wasn’t a huge thing?
I do think the concept of this book is great, I just wish it didn’t make me so uncomfy 😩 the ending was beautiful though, I’m happy for the family in the end
Sorry for the pretty trash review, I hate giving negative feedback but it just wasn’t for me that’s all.

I said that the last book wouldn’t stop me from continuing the series, but this one might. I found Madelyn to be positively insufferable and whiny. She constantly fears losing Milo, but then consistently does everything she can to make sure she does. And Milo is NOT an MMC I can get behind. In the first few chapters, he storms in, demands Madelyn move in with him, then immediately brings another girl home to LOUDLY make her jealous with? And has the AUDACITY to call get names while she’s literally holding his newborn baby? Oh HELL no. There was no redemption that would be enough for me after that. So basically, this series is a “no” for me.
Also? Being blackmailed into sex is RAPE. Madelyn did not cheat. She was raped.
This was soo good, the MMC I have a change of heart about now ! He was amazing character 😍 The FMC was also a great read, her story is very hard and a lot of people let her down and she closed her heart buttttt …. You can read it 🙊
In the first books they didn’t have my heart but now 🥰🥰🥰
Favourite quote:
“You’re not the only one who’s 'afraid of rejection, Madelyn. I want you, okay? I’ve always wanted you. And not just for the goddamn milk.” “Milo––” “I want you for the sleepless nights. For the yelling matches. In sickness and in health. I wanna make more babies with you. I don’t want you to spend another second wondering whether or not I want you. I’ve wanted you since the moment I saw you on Marty’s lawn. Nothing’s changed. Not before you delivered my baby. Not after. You’re still the sexiest thing I’ve ever laid eyes on. Both inside and out. I. Want. You.” ~ Milo 😍🫠
Not my favorite Kelsie Rae book (and I’ve read close to 15 of them). Overall, the plot line and the female main character just didn’t click for me. I loved Milo, of course - especially knowing how his story ties into being the protective dad in The Little Things series. But Maddy? I just couldn’t get behind her. She felt so unlikable that if the story hadn’t ended in a happily ever after, it almost would have felt deserved. While Rae’s writing is still as easy to read as ever, this one simply wasn’t for me.
"I have been waiting for Milo's story since I first caught a glimpse of him in Model Behavior. Who was this broody, unapologetic, force of nature? We've caught hints in the first 2 books, but finding out exactly why he is the way he is... his story is real and raw, he's tormented by a past he can't shake and one that he can't move on from. Mads has been less than honest with all the people in her life. Her relationship with her sister is on the mend as well as the one with Gibson, but there's one more that she needs to fix. Yet at every turn something gets in her way, whether it's of her own making or that of an outside influence. The road to forgiveness and acceptance is bumpy and rough. Their story tugged at my heartstrings, and squeezed my insides. It was like an accident you could see happening but couldn't look away, hoping for the best but knowing that it was going to be painful regardless. These two had me cheering for them one minute and exasperated the next. I can't wait to see who we get in the next book in the series." ~Shirley
"Milo and Maddie did not disappoint. I have been waiting for Milo's story. Milo's life hasn't been easy, from crappy parents to raising his sister Reece to helping the friends and the family he made until one girl knocked him for a loop. Maddie has made a mess of her life but Milo was the one thing she knew she did right until he rejected her and left her alone and pregnant.
Milos's protective streak is strong, but when he finds out he is a father his protective bear goes into overdrive even if he isn't on the best terms with her mom. Milo and Penny are adorable and swoon worthy. Milo and Maddie are two balls of angst and regret, but the attraction simmers between them. This is a story to make your smile and sigh. This is a couple that you can't help rooting for. Thank you Kelsie Rae for bringing both Milo and Maddie to life and writing another couple to love." ~Cindy
Oh, I am loving the Wrecked Roommates series! Milo and Maddie's story is an emotional, gut-wrenching rollercoaster of emotions, but full of so much heat, heart, and a beautiful second chance at love.
After getting a glimpse of Maddie and Milo's backstory with Gibson in Forbidden Lyrics, I couldn't wait to dive into this book. And it was phenomenal. I felt so many emotions for these two as they attempted to repair their fractured relationship and co-parent little Penny. Milo has always been the protector when it comes to his sister and friends, but there was something about Em breaking his heart that made it too much to want to fight for her. But the thing is, Em/Maddie never wanted to break things off with Milo -- just with Gibson -- but miscommunication and words said in the heat of anger caused a lot of damage between them.
Milo is slow to forgive Maddie for breaking his heart, but once they finally hash out their issues, he sees that her heart was broken too. And things are beautiful between them... until they aren't because there is one more secret Maddie has been keeping from him that could be the ultimate betrayal. Yes, she should have told him the secret she was keeping, and she was wrong by not doing so. But he'd also told her that what was in her past was in the past and had no bearing on their future as a family.
This book is a standalone, but it is best to have read Forbidden Lyrics first, as there are some details there that really impact Messy Strokes. And Milo and Maddie's story is quite messy, but has such a beautiful ending.

Listen I really liked the baby aspect of the story, but Milo has got to be the single worst leading man I’ve ever read. You can have your trauma, and your past, and your reserves, but that does not excuse the very hot and very cold he would go back and forth between. There’s a difference between a tortured artist and just a straight up asshole. If someone ever talked to me the way Milo did, I’d be long gone. We actually wouldn’t have gotten past a few chapter when he pulled the shit he did in the beginning. I liked Mads a bit more in her story versus Dove’s. The baby was very cute. I liked how this story wasn’t like wow, the two main characters have made it big and famous now, and hopefully one character is gone forever, but ugh. If I have to read the word volley or scrubbing one more time I’m gonna scream. Why is everyone scrubbing their face and volleying words back and forth all the time? 😭
This book was so goddamn frustrating. It could’ve been over as soon as the first test results came in if anyone had two neurons to rub together.
If there are three possible dads (let’s call them A, B, and C), possible dads B & C are brothers, and B’s paternity test came back negative, then the lab would be able to say what amount of common DNA they did have which could have eliminated C from the jump.
I spent the whole time screaming for them to have some fucking common sense, but alas, there was none to be found.

Messy Strokes is raw, painful, heartbreaking, and full of so much forgiveness and beauty, and that’s what makes this story so worthwhile. I felt like I was walking across a minefield praying to come out alive on the other side amongst all the chaos. With each stroke of war paint across my heart, I was filled with a longing and desperation that this stubborn couple would find their happily ever after regardless of the secrets and lies. Kelsie definitely pulled out all the stops to give us extra angst in this book with the blackmail and betrayal. Madelyn (Em) and Milo are each other’s yin and yang. They make each other crazy, as much as they consume and complete each other. I also went a little crazy wanting to shake them, scream at them, or hug them. You need to read this book for the hospital, peanut -butter, the compass, the text messages, the dandelion, the restaurant, the hotel and the shed alone This story may be messy and complicated, but it’s also full of hope, determination, loyalty and so much unconditional love. Milo tattooed his name across my heart. I need all of our babies to have his sexy, adorable dimple. I want Milo to be - My home. My everything. My dandelion forever!
Maddie and Milo used to be in a three way relationship with his friend Gibson. When Maddie wanted to stop their arrangement and have a relationship with just Milo, he misunderstands her intentions and they break up. Not long after Maddie finds out that she is pregnant and her sister helps her deal with the pregnancy. She doesn't want Milo to find out about the baby as she is not sure who the father could be. Unfortunately, Maddie had been sleeping with someone else who blackmailed her and she definitely doesn't want him to find out about the baby, so she hides away. Unfortunately, Milo finds out about the baby and once she is born he makes Maddie live with him so he can help her out. They are both still in love with each other, but Milo is still so angry at Maddie which makes him hurt her intentionally. Maddie is filled with guilt over her past and hopes to mend her relationship with Milo as he is the only one that she wants. But when she starts receiving messages from her blackmailer she realises that he has found out about the baby, what is she going to do and what if Milo finds out?
This is the 3rd book in the series, it can be read as a standalone but reading the other books does help to understand the background story better. I cant wait to read the next book.

What a roller coaster! I enjoyed every second of it. The build up in the last book had me impatiently waiting for this! Messy Strokes was the third book in Kelsie’s Wrecked Roommates series. It was complex, sweet, and emotional!
Maddie had gotten herself backed into a corner. She should have been honest with Milo, but sometimes things like that just don’t work out.
Being pregnant and alone was not something Maddie thought would happen, but when you mess around with several people… One potential father was ruled out, but what about the other two? When Milo convinced her to move in, would she be able to look at him without feeling guilty about not telling him the truth? She was only trying to protect him, but would he see it that way?
Messy was sure a great way to describe their situation! Despite all the twists and turns, I am glad how the book ended. I hop we get to see more of them in the next book! And I never put two and two together about Jake! Bree and Luke’s baby brother! I am looking forward to see if we get some updates on some of my favorites from Signature Sweethearts!
If you are in a book slump, then this is the book you need! In fact this whole series has been nothing short of phenomenal. I'd been in a bit of a slump until I picked this book up. I finished it in 2 days and actually felt a little weepy when something forced me to put it down.
An angsty romance with a surprise baby is a great combination! I'll admit there were times where I just wanted to shake Madelyn. She seems to just sink deeper and deeper into the hole she's dug herself. But that didn't keep me from rooting for her and Milo. When these two are on the same page they're amazing together. Milo is even swoon-worthy at times. The hot tattoo artist certainly had my attention from the very start. He's broody with a side of sweet and romantic, just perfect if you ask me.
I'm looking forward to seeing what's in store for Jake, the final roommate in this series. I have a feeling it's going to be epic!
4 star Review Messy Strokes (Wrecked Roommates #3) by Kelsie Rae
Wow, this book was not what I was expecting when I started it. This is a book full of drama, secrets and lies. It is one that will draw you in and keep you reading. The relationship that Maddie and Milo have is complicated, not least of which because Maddie does not know who the father of her beautiful baby girl Penny (aka Peanut) is.
Kelsie Rae has written a story with characters who she is not afraid to show in all their flawed glory. It is an emotional roller coaster of a read that at times had me wanting to scream out loud in frustration.
I had a hard time relating to both Milo and Maddie but by the end of the book I was cheering for them to get their happily ever after with little Penny. As the past comes back to haunt Maddie I was on the edge of my seat. I wasn’t keen on the blackmail and lying aspects of the story but the writing was strong.
If you like drama and believe in second chances, this book is definitely for you.
You fall in love with Milo, despite his gruff personality. As the story unfolds, the author slowly peels the layers away to give you a better understanding of him.
It was a little harder to connect with Madelyn. Her reasoning behind her actions and lies are somewhat tolerable. It’s the “ah-ha” moment where you start rooting for her.
Describing Milo and Madelyn’s relationship as “messy” is one way to put it. With one simple lie, Madelyn slowly gets what she wants; the man she loves, a place she can call home, a job, and the feeling of security. Eventually, one lie turns into two lies, and so on. But when a text message appears from an unknown caller, the guilt and deceit become overwhelming. When s#!t hits the fan, Madelyn has to prove that she is willing to fight for Milo and their relationship.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Kelsie writes the story so heartbreaking with Madelyn's unsecurity and how much she wants Milo to love her back. And while Milo is a fixer for everyone, he needs to be fixed too. Their love story pull me in. I am a mess and tear up while I am reading through this book. I feel sorry for Madelyn's heartbreak but I want to hate her for her selfishness. I want to smack Milo's head for his action after Madelyn moving in with him but can't deny that his bossy alpha behavior is super hot. I want to kick Marty's crotch for his manipulative a**ehole. I have wanted to read Milo's story since I read the first book. Usually I don't like an overprotective brother, I don't know why but Milo's an exception. Then the second book made me want more because I am a sucker for the second chance. And after I finish reading this book, I am not disappointed!
Milo and Maddie did not disappoint.
Thank you Kelsie Rae for bringing both Milo and Maddie to life and writing another couple to love.
Once I started this book I had to keep going. Kelsie hooks you in right from the start and you have to keep turning the pages to see what happens next. You get all the feels as Em and Milo go thru a rollercoaster ride of emotions and turmoil. Milo and Em settle into the role of a "happy family" after a bit of emotion at the beginning as they get used to each other again. Em starts getting blackmailed by someone from her past and is too scared to tell Milo. Will she go through with the threat or follow her heart and do what's right for Penny. I received an arc for my honest review for NNBB. If you love an ex-lover to lovers romance you will love this book. There's a lot of emotion and turmoil but Kelsie keeps you hooked reading the pages right until the very end.
This book is messy. The name definitely fits, these characters have a lot of flaws and the lies just build up. I didn’t care for Mads in previous books but I loved the growth she had in this book, although I wanted to shake her multiple times. Milo was also not my favorite character from the series going into this but he quickly grew on me. This book has angst, drama, love and a cute baby. I don’t love books with babies however I really think Kelsie did a good job including her without making it all about having a baby. I loved the Easter eggs from previous books by Kelsie, and I can not wait for Jakes story! Overall I think it’s a good book and would recommend it however I would read the others in the series first to fully understand the characters.
There is never a dull moment in MESSY STROKES. It is a griping, angsty novel from the start. It has a somber feel to it as Mads has to come to terms with her actions of her untamed past.
Milo re-enters her life as a broody, surly former lover but protective of her nonetheless. He is full of surprises as a main male character because of the miscommunications in their past.
I stayed up all night reading this book because there was never a good time to put it aside. I am going to go back and read the first two books in the collection since I was intrigued by the bits and pieces of those stories dropped throughout this one,
I received an advance copy of this book. This is my voluntary review.
Verified ARC Reader Who we love and how we love ! by sewsummore
Who we love and how we love is different for everyone. The heroine in this story went to imaginable lengths to protect the man she loved.Did she go too far? The lies she told kept mounting and yet the regret she carried almost destroyed her. Em had a difficult time growing up with parents who did not understand her. Milo loved her but never believed he deserved her. This book was an emotional read as two lovers allow their mistaken beliefs to tear them apart. This book made compelling reading, the couple's tumultuous past was the the reason for their breakup but their happy ending was a pleasing conclusion to this book.
