Vanitas and Dominique have to face and overcome their own self-loathing in the most dramatic way possible. The fact that they both love Noe too much to hurt him or accept seeing him hurt helps! Jeanne drops in to save Domi. And Noe’s seriously sketchy “teacher” makes his first physical appearance. This is also the volume that puts a new spin on the reveal given at the start of the series that Noe eventually kills Vanitas, something that suggests it as proof not of betrayal but of their closeness and perhaps a promise kept.
Also…can I just say that the way Noe and Vanitas rest after some trying adventure by leaning their backs together (actually depicted on the cover of this volume) is just the cutest thing? I don’t even care what it “means*” – it is adorable regardless!
* I do totally want Noe, Vanitas, Domi, and Jeanne to form a sedoretu marriage^ …but given that grim foreshadowing it seems sadly unlikely! ^ See review for some Ursula Le Guin short stories: https://ajungleoftales.blogspot.com/2... I’d put Vanitas and Domi as evening moiety, Noe and Jeanne as morning moiety (only the cross-moiety romantic relationships being allowed…plus the titles fit their personalities!)
(reread before I read the 11th volume that I waited A YEAR for)
I love them so much "If I want to die, I want it to be by Noè's hand" hello excuse me how is this manga actually straight like they make the most gayest fucking scenes and few pages after that vanitas is having romantic scenes with Jeanne like hello???
I read the English translated version of this. I pre-ordered this way back in late August and it was delivered to me yesterday. It was definitely worth the wait!
There were quite a few powerful quotes that I don't recall being in the anime...
"I will never set you free."
"If I'm going to be killed, then I want Noe to do it."
Man, that cliffhanger too though. It was so good. Is Chloe okay??? Or is she just asleep in Jean-Jacques's arms?? I'm a bit disappointed they didn't add it in the anime. Maybe because they haven't announced a season 2 yet? It said that volume 11 is coming soon, so I'm eagerly waiting to read it!
The added detail of Jeanne noticing Noe's teacher's blue eye that's similar to Vanitas' was also not included in the anime (I believe, although I could be wrong about that). I really hope they will release more chapters soon so that hopefully another season can be adapted.

Tämäkin oli tosi hyvä. Jännityksellä odotan jatkoa. Tällä osalla oli onnellinen loppu, mikä on hyvä. Ei ole niin kidutusta odottaa seuraavaa. Jännää kyllä mihin tää tästä menee. Animekin täytyy katsoa joskus.
This was the honest to god the gayest we have ever gone in this series hello??? I'm screaming crying and throwing up it was SO GOOD.😭
How are you going to be so fruity right after we did all that bullshit between Vanitas and Jeanne like are you queerbaiting me? Is this an actual example of queerbaiting?? Because it sure feels like it and it feels really mean.💀
Their fight !!! and how Vanitas COULD NOT KILL HIM despite the order he put inside himself to kill the threat to his memories, holy shit. I absolutely would have been asking what are we? after all that.
Then having a chat on the roof where Vanitas says how he wants Noé to be the one to kill him.😭 When Noé offered his hand to help him up?? It was such a beautiful scene.
Domi fighting so hard because she doesn't want Noé to ever be sad again.😭 Their relationship is so sweet and pure (and platonic, trust.)
Also Noé is absolutely for the female gaze because god DAMN he's gorgeous. Vanitas is stronger than me because I would have folded like a lawn chair with one look from him.
Sitting on this volume for the past few days has helped me appreciate Dominique's growth at this point in the story. While Noe and Vanitas almost lost trust in each other before finding it again, we see how Domi's facade hides her own lack of confident in her abilities. It makes her a great parallel to Vanitas, especially since much of what her inner voice revealed has been hidden to us. Her thoughts on Jeanne were the most eye-opening to me. Is she jealous of Jeanne because she's been able to find love with someone who isn't her? Is she jealous of Jeanne because the she doesn't find the other person (in this case, Vanitas) worthy? Or does Domi actually have feelings for Jeanne? I may be reaching with that last question, but given how rampant the queerbaiting has been in this series, it's not off the table for me.
What a ride we've been on so far! I've enjoyed seeing how Mochizuki's embraced her world this time around without getting too immersed in it. There are still several questions I hope will be answered soon (for the shady side characters, in the words of t.A.T.U, are you friend or foe?). Do the action and slight reveals make up for some of that? Yes. Noe x Vanitas are my current ship hyperfixation that keeps on giving.
