Fate and two ancient vampires haunt the land. She must face them or lose everything.
Mariah wants to quietly marry her fiance Miguel, and not get tangled up in any more intrigue. Unfortunately, fate has other ideas, and a faceless menace haunts her dreams, promising suffering and death to those she loves.
First her father disappears, then Miguel. Though visions of their deaths mock her, Mariah refuses to believe them. Determined to fix things, she sets out into the wild northern corner of South America and comes face to face with an ancient evil—two vampires warring for dominance of the continent.
She'll do anything to reunite her family, even seek help from a vampire. But predators don't ally with prey, and Mariah must choose—become his for a chance to save the man she loves, or die.
Amaranth Dawn is a historical paranormal fantasy with deep themes, magic, romance, and vampires, set in colonial Maracaibo and the Guajira Peninsula. It is the first book of a completed trilogy, and ends in a cliffhanger. If you enjoy genre-bending fiction with lush imagery and fully developed characters, then this book is for you!
The fantastical elements in this story were interesting and the romance plot was believable. The author does a good job blending a real setting with a fantastical story. It was a good story overall.
THE WORLD AROUND Mariah came to a standstill as she stared down the sights of the flintlock pistol held in her hand, pointed squarely at Antonio Gonza. Moonlight bathed the garden in its pale glow and the distant music of the wedding dancing floated over the hedge. Mariah’s mind raced, flitting around, and she could feel the trembling start in her gut. She had already killed one man tonight; surely the universe would not make her kill another.
This historical-fantasy is rich with imagery of life in old Maracaibo and characters to love, hate, and feel for. The first book of the Daughter of Zyanya trilogy, Amaranth Dawn is sure to pull you into its mysterious adventure world.
